I think you have the relationship backward, this did not arise from apps. Long before there was any such thing as an "app", and ever since for that matter, most music was released by artists in the form of albums, with tracks. Such an approach still logically organizes and describes the vast, vast majority of most people's music collections. As far as the desired behavior, of course a default hierarchy and database organization can be or not be whatever is chosen. It's just a side effect of the simplistic pop/rock oriented data model inherited from most similar apps - an artist has albums which in turn have tracks - end of story. Thanks for the tip guys. I find it wierd that SqueezeCenter must put single tracks in an album when they don't belong to one. If I'm looking in 'Albums', I'm looking for just that...full albums. I can look under 'Artists' if I wanted to look for everything by an artist. I tag mine with "Singles" for the album. When I have more than 2 songs for an artist I move them into their own artist folder. When they are all by the same artist in a folder, Squeezecenter puts them under that artist as an album called Singles. For the folder that that has all my other singles mixed together, Squeezecenter seems to pick a random artist to display for these. It means I have around 50 albums titles "Singles when I browse my album list, which is kind of annoying but I rarely browse albums so I live with it. The compilation settings probably have something to do with this. It's not new, and there's no way around it other than tagging that I know of. [slim] Get rid of the 'No Album' album?
I'm not sure if this has to do w/ tagging or settings so I'll post it in this forum. I have a bunch of tunes that aren't full albums and are tagged simply w/ Artist and Title for the most part. They're in 2 or 3 folders or so. Is there a way to not have an album called 'No Album' show up? Changing a setting or two winds up with the 'No Album' album being by either Various Artists or all the artists, but it still exists. Must I tag each of those files w/ an album name in order to solve this or is there another solution? I just want the 'No Album' album not to show up when browsing by Artist or Album. Also, until recently I'd browse by Music Folder whenever I used the web interface so I'm not sure if this is new or always was the case.
