Well... I think Foobar works fine for this and I actually like
Tag%Rename very much for the tagging part, but I will check out
dbpoweramp more also.

Well it has what is called in the FAQ a ID3v2 writer compatibility
mode:

foobar2000 writes ID3v2.4 tags encoded as UTF-8 by default. To deal
with broken software/hardware with partial support of the ID3v2
standard, an “ID3v2 writer compatibility mode” has been added
('Preferences → Advanced → Tagging → MP3 →
ID3v2 writer compatibility mode'); it results in non-standard-compliant
tags being written (ID3v2.3 instead of ID3v2.4, UTF-16, no
unsynchronization, no padding), but attempts to dodge known bugs in
other ID3v2 implementations.

I have now changed to using that, but still it seems that I don't see
the ReplayGain tags in dbpoweramp, but that doesn't matter so much, I
can view them all in TagsRevisited and SC can read them and use them.

That's the reason I don't like mp3gain. It only uses ID3v2.4. This
introduces another type of tag that I don't need or want. dbpoweramp
does replaygain in ID3v2.3 so it shows up fine and is more compatible
with programs. Can foobar write replaygain to ID3v2.3 tags or are you
stuck with 2.4?

Yes I checked, Foobar is saving this by default is ID3v2.4 but one can
set it to do it into ID3v2.3 if one wants to. I guess dbpoweramp does
not show ID3v2.4 tags though, and that is why the ReplayGain info
doesn't show up. A good other program to view all tags though is
TagsRevisited, which seems to show everything in a nice way.

If you only have ID3v1 tags, then the ReplayGain info can't be in the
ID3v1 tag. I'm not sure what type of tag foobar uses.

Re: [slim] Invaluable Windows gadget for audio libraries

2008-07-19 Thread Teus de Jong

I'm glad that when I started to rip my cd's I decided to use dbPoweramp.
After looking at several secure options, dbPoweramp seemed the best
choice (speed being a main factor). And version 13 only has got
better.

Just for kicks, I tried the new batch converter: I wish it was there
when I started ripping. Marvelous.

And a shot of what I see in my own made filemanager:

Thanks Jim!

I don't seem to get all that info when I installed the program (v.13).
Here is an example of what I got on a file where I have used Foobar to
embed ReplayGain into. I do see the Volume Adjustment value and the
Album volume adjustment value in SqueezeCenter when I look at this
specific track, but that into is just not shown in the Explorer view
for some reason.

You really should jump in and use it for ripping and converting. It's
the best out there bar none. Really has evolved into the best all
around program for ripping and converting and just looking at your
stuff. :)

For all of the formats that I've used - Flac, Mp3, Ogg Vorbis, and
Monkey's Audio - it displays all tags, with the standard ones like
artist, title and album shown first, then all the other tags, including
ReplayGain, following. In the configuration you have an option of
listing any tags that you don't want displayed.

Thanks for the tip Jim!

I some time ago lost whatever program I had that showed tags in
Explorer so this tip was useful! Can one tweak it to show for example
replaygain info also and other things included in the tags ?

[slim] Invaluable Windows gadget for audio libraries

2008-07-18 Thread JJZolx

dbpoweramp Windows Explorer Pop-up Information

I don't use dbpoweramp for either ripping or music transcoding, but I
have it installed nonetheless. The only reason is for the Windows
Explorer Pop-up Information. Just mouseover a file in Windows Explorer
to read all the tags, nicely laid out and formatted. I've been using it
for years and it keeps getting a little better with each release of
dbpoweramp. It's great for esily viewing your tags in audio files, and
a lot more convenient than having to load up the files in a tagging
program.

If you install it, see the dbpoweramp Configuration > Music Converter >
Enable Pop-up Information Tips > Advanced page for customizing the
output. Make sure you install the appropriate codec package for each
of the music file formats whose tags you'd like to view in Windows
Explorer. It does mp3 by default, but there are codecs for Flac, Ogg,
Monkey's Audio, etc.
