NB. Some ripping software e.g. dbPoweramp can be configured to add ReplayGain tags at the ripping stage which for CD ripping is my preferred method. I only use foobar2000 to add ReplayGain tags to my Vinyl rips. Re: [slim] New Music on LMS compared to ozher systems like (air)(sub)sonic
ReplayGain is explained here - http://wiki.hydrogenaud.io/index.php/ReplayGain In foobar2000 you select all tracks from one album then right click and do Replay Gain and select the appropriate option 33715 After scanning you then get an option to write ReplayGain tags The principle is that the software measures the noise levels of the tracks and suggests an adjustment to normalise the listening level based on a target value - usually 89 db (you can alter this in settings but there are really only two common levels in use 89 or 83). The adjustment levels are at Album and Track level. If you apply tags all you are doing is writing some additional info in the files which clever replay software e.g. LMS can use at playback time. You can also opt to APPLY the calculated ReplayGain to your tracks. This makes a permanent adjustment and is similar to "normalisation". +---+ |Filename: 2021-03-09 09_47_05-Window.jpg | |Download: http://forums.slimdevices.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=33715| +---+ VB2.4[/B] STORAGE *QNAP TS419P (NFS) [B]Living Room* Joggler & Pi4/Khadas -> Onkyo TXNR686 -> Celestion F20s *Office* Joggler & Pi3 -> Denon RCD N8 -> Celestion F10s *Dining Room* SB Boom *Kitchen* UE Radio (upgraded to SB Radio) *Bedroom (Bedside)* Pi Zero+DAC ->ToppingTP21 ->AKG Headphones *Bedroom (TV) & Bathroom* SB Touch ->Denon AVR ->Mordaunt Short M10s + Kef ceiling speakers *Guest Room* Joggler > Topping Amp -> Wharfedale Modus Cubes Everything controlled by iPeng & Material on iOS d6jg's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=44051 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=114107 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

Re: [slim] New Music on LMS compared to ozher systems like (air)(sub)sonic
I've never used ReplayGain - never felt the need! As to the OP's question, I've occasionally used the Linux touch command to reset the file date after I've edited tags, so that the edited files don't appear in New Music. It's a bit of a faff though. I use Kid3 for tagging, and it does have an option to preserve file time stamp. I guess that must be a widespread in file tagger apps. mamema wrote: > perhaps this is because i'm ripping since long time with the same > toolset. That can't be the answer (unless you are applying permanent volume leveling during the ripping processand that's definitely NOT audiophile). Different CDs can have very different loudness. But if you mostly listen to complete albums, then this is not an issue. It's the inter-album volume differences that can be annoying (or jarring) not the intra-album track volume differences (as the latter is the way it was designed to be played). *Home:* Pi4B-8GB/pCP7.x/4TB>LMS 8.1.x>Transporter, Touch, Boom, Radio (all ethernet) *Cottage:* rPi4B-4GB/pCP7.x/4TB>LMS 8.1.x>Touch>Benchmark DAC I, Boom, Radio w/Battery (Radio WIFI) *Office:* Win10(64)>foobar2000 *The Wild: *rPi3B+/pCP4.0/4TB>hifiberry Dac+Pro (LMS & Squeezelite) *Controllers:* iPhone11 & iPadAir3 (iPeng), CONTROLLER, Material Skin, or SqueezePlay 7.8 on Win10(64) *Files:* -Ripping-: dbpoweramp > FLAC; -Post-rip-: mp3tag, PerfectTunes, TuneFusion; -Streaming:- Spotify garym's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=17325 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=114107 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

hmm, i see, but for whatever reason my music seems to be ok regarding volume. i haven't the need to adjust volume between tracks, perhaps this is because i'm ripping since long time with the same toolset. mamema's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=44662 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=114107 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

It is to do with file date/time stamping - LMS looks at last modified date, the others look at creation date. You can "correct" the issue using a tool such as bulkfilechanger by changing the modified date of files to match creation date. [slim] New Music on LMS compared to ozher systems like (air)(sub)sonic
I'm using LMS and subsonic and airsonic advanced. Because the abilities of LMS and especially the Custom Scan plugin, i'm in a heavy retagging project. This leads to the situation that "New Music" in LMS changes frequently not because of new, but i guess because of new tags or because of changed file save date/time. For whatever reason, the other apps i'm using like subsonic and airsonic, are not suffering from this retagging approach. There is "New Music" discovered as new, when it is really "new". For some reason, the New Music area of the "sonic apps survive my retagging approach. I like this! I haven't digged into the cause, but i would like to see the *sonic approach in LMS also.
