Re: [slim] Probably the Worst Update in The World ...
At last got my SQ touch today..Started it playing Internet radio..Its amazing..Superb products..I have still not connected it to Sq sever on my PC..I think I will wait for few days to get stable server version..But I am unable to save my favorite stations independently..Do I need SQ server OR Mysqueezebox.com to be connected to save favorite stations ?? -- umapati umapati's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=48225 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=89152 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

I'd suggest you stick with your installed SBS 7.6, see if it works ok for you. If not (scanner or art issues) maybe try the SBS 7.6.1 If you go with an earlier 7.5 build, and you do your switching to MySB when computer is off, then MySB will want you to update to 7.6. When you go back to SBS server then SBS will want you to downgrade to 7.5. You will be in a firmware update loop. :) Or, run 7.5 but then just don't switch to MySB.com. -- toby10 toby10's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=12553 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=89152 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

umapati;645705 Wrote: > Y. > But do I need to connect to Squeezebox.com for playing internet radio > while my PC is off..? Yes. Your player must connect to a server, either SBS on your computer or TinySBS on your Touch or www.MySqueezeBox.com (MySB) online. If you plan on frequent switches between servers (sounds like you will) I'd suggest moving the "switch to MySB" to your home menu. >From the Touch go to Settings > Home Menu > Restore Hidden Menu Items > "switch to MySB". So to switch from SBS to MySB, simply select that menu item. To switch from MySB to SBS, simply select My Music or Switch Library (might also need to be un-hidden). -- toby10 toby10's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=12553 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=89152 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

Re: [slim] Probably the Worst Update in The World ...
I think you said elsewhere you wanted to use an usb drive - that has to be run using the Touch tiny sbs server (on the Touch). So, you are going to be switching between the Touch server and your PC server. Im not sure but if you go that route then you'll be connecting to mysb.com for internet radio. The easiest way is to run the server on your PC and connect the usb drive to that - this means you need the PC on whenever you use the Touch. -- castalla castalla's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=15624 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=89152 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

If you're on debian/ubuntu, no, there's no registry in linux. Everything is a file there. The places to check (and delete, if aubuti's advice to apt-get purge leaves something behind) are: Code: /etc/default/squeezeboxserver /etc/init.d/squeezeboxserver /etc/squeezeboxserver /usr/share/perl5/Slim /usr/share/squeezeboxserver /var/lib/squeezeboxserver /var/log/squeezeboxserver Have I forgotten anything? -- gharris999 gharris999's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=115 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=89152 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

Help Please?? > I completely understand your frustration, at 4.15 am I'd strongly recommend you to go to sleep and continue tomorrow unless you life depends on it. If you want step by step guidance, contact the official Logitech support team and ask them to guide you through the process of downgrading to 7.5.5. You will find the "Support" link at the top of this forum. Note, I'm not talking about the support forum, I'm talking about registering a support case. As aubuti says, the general process of downgrading is to: 1. Uninstall everything and make sure there aren't anything left 2. Re-install 7.5.x 3. Don't connect to mysqueezebox.com as that will prompt you to upgrade to 7.6 again. I think the re-installation after a factory reset is going to be a little bit confusing because: - When setting up the Touch the first time, it's going to connect to mysqueezebox.com and ask you to upgrade to 7.6 unless it's already using 7.6, just let it continue to do the upgrade. - Later in the process, when you have setup your local SBS 7.5.x and connect the Touch to it, you will be able to downgrade the Touch firmware to 7.5.5 and you have reach your goal. If you need more details regarding the uninstallation, the Logitech support staff will be able to guide you through it if you register a support case. And just to be clear, if anyone else is reading this, for anyone using the Touch without a local SBS on a computer I'm not even sure it will work reliably to downgrade to 7.5.x. I suspect it will connect to mysqueezebox.com and try to upgrade every time the Touch is started or the USB drive is disconnected/unavailable. -- erland Erland Isaksson ('My homepage' (http://erland.isaksson.info)) (Developer of 'many plugins/applets' (http://wiki.slimdevices.com/index.php/User:Erland). It only knows that 7.6 exists because there is something telling it that it exists. You never got messages before updating to 7.6 before the release, right? So, 1) delete everything having to do with 7.5.x and 7.6 from your system. Assuming you're still using Ubuntu, doing only "apt-get purge squeezeboxserver" may not be enough. After apt-get purging, then dig into the /var/lib/squeezeboxserver , /etc/squeezeboxserver, etc to thoroughly clean it out. 2) when you re-install SBS, turn off the automatic notification of software update before you do anything else 3) never, ever, ever connect to mysqueezebox.com. That should give you a fighting chance. -- aubuti aubuti's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=2074 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=89152 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
[slim] Probably the Worst Update in The World ...
... with apologies to the famous Carlsberg adverts! In over 20 years of IT, this 7.6 mess has to be way up at the top of the Top Ten utter and total disasters! and absolutely no clues on how to recover from the fiasco! I have tried everything to re-establish 7.5.5 as it was (reinstalls, factory resets, cold reboots, etc) and still the stupid system refuses to accept my settings for the Info Browser. Oh yes, it's there on the web interface - but will the damn thing show up on the Touch, will it hell! So can any guru (with years of experience!) please tell vme how to get back to the day I unpacked the Touch and set it up? Simply uninstalling the sbs server is obviously a waste of time - the damn thing still wants to update to 7.6 even though the server is 7.5.5 . It's 4:15 am and I've spent hours uninstalling, reinstalling, resetting, and screaming at the damn thing.
