[slim] Squeezebox Boom Suddenly Unrecognisable by Remote

2011-11-17 Thread Martin.gillies

First of all feel free to move this post to the most suitable place - I
wasnt sure where that was.

My set up:

Squeezebox Server 7.6.1 (Run from my laptop)
Squeezebox Boom
Apple iPad with iPeng installed
Linksys WAG120N Wireless Router

When I first start up my laptop, and squeezebox server is started at
login, everything runs smoothly and I can select what music/radio I
want to listen to using iPeng.
However, after about half an hour, iPeng suddenly cannot see the player
anymore but the player is still connected to the server and playing
music. iPeng is obviously useless by this point and the only way to fix
this seems to be to switch my router off and back on.

Does anyone have any idea why this is happening? It's never been like
this before and although it's not a major problem it is very
frustrating.
Thanks in advance for any replies.

Have you tried turning wifi off then back on on the iPad? I seem to have
to do that a lot, although less so since I bought a stronger antenna for
my router about a week ago.

Yes it can suddenly drop of the radar, but for me it imidietly
reconects so I experience no ill effect.

Some routers have problems with wifi devices with power saving features
, if you have similar issues with phones or the squeezebox controller ,
you have one of those .

An experiment connect the iPad to it's charger does it still drop out
?
Afiak it does not power save when connected to the charger.

Yeah, it would happen a lot with my iPod touch also, but not my
husband's iPod touch. And when my sister was here with her iPad, she
would have to turn wifi off and on all the time too. And it never
happened while I was on vacation. So it's got to be something with my
router--I just don't know what setting to change. I run tomato firmware
so there are a lot of settings, but not very well documented. Anyway,
the new antenna did help a lot.

I was more of responding to OP , but funny enough I also run tomato and
it is more or less rock solid the few reconnects i have fix themselves,
and I also added extra those large antennas .

I still have the WRT54GL a very geriatric router by todays standard but
it keeps on working very well.
