This bug has been a real thorn in my side, but I caught a pattern tonight that I will test. It happend twice today that the music never advanced to the next song and the next song had an apostrophe in the file name. Could it be that simple? Check your playlist to see if the next song has an apostrophe. I am checking by renaming the files to have no apostrophe and seeing if it makes a difference or if it was a coincidence today. If so, it would make sense that not all the people here are having the problem. So do I thank or curse Robie Nevil and C'est La Vie... That is the song title that caught my eye... and followed a song that never ended. If TrackStat isn't installed I think this message might also occur if you use one of the third party clients like Moose (on Windows) or iPeng (on an iPhone). I used to use Moose, but that doesn't seem to work properly on Win7 at the moment so I don't have it running any more. I cannot see why you would need it in your setup, as I understand it, so this message is really just a warning that there are transcoding options configured for which the binary is not available. -Slim::Player::Protocols::File::sysread (214) Trying to read past the end of file- should happen once at the end of each track. You should already have been getting this before you installed lame. But it looks like you are getting several in quick succession. Perhaps several tracks are failing one after another. Can I suggest you check your files again now you have recopied them from your backup. During the last few days I have deleted all the music from the Windows Home Server and then put it all back on there from my backup. The six dodgy tracks that I had have been erased and the streaming to the Squeezebox now seems much, much better in random. So far since doing this there have been just a few glitches.. but as I am writing this one of those glitches has just come up, don't know if it is coincidence or not but it always seems to be on track 9 on random. Did a test on all the Flac files (about 4000)on the Windows Home Server last night using Audiotester, picked up six tracks that were faulty. The AC\DC track was obviously one of them. Also checked quite a few using Flac Frontend and they passed. I will try erasing all tracks on the server and reinstate from my backup drive (which I have also tested )to see if that makes a difference. As you have mentioned, dropouts can be heard at two points in the AC\DC track but Foobar does continue playing the track otherwise. If there are only six tracks that are faulty why does Squeezecenter continually stop when playing a random mix? Coincidentally it does always seem to be around the eighth track in the playlist. FLAC frontend gets 17% through the file before it spits out the type 2 error and stops. The dropouts are in fact audio silence, not data corruption - you can see the brief periods of silence in Audacity. I must checkout AudioTester... Phil, I'm running version 7.3.2 of Squeezecenter at the moment. So the Flac decoder within Squeezecenter is checking the integrity of the files if I understand you correctly. Perhaps the boffins at Logitech could relax this checking slightly as so many people after reding these forums seem to be having the same problems? The thing is that the checksum error isn't necessary fatal - could be the checksum that is inocrrect rather than the data if you see what i mean? First point: there is at least one bug here. I have identified one bug and this will, as best as I can tell, only be triggered when some error in the file being played caused the player to quit playing that track prematurely and in a way that confuses SqueezeCentre. I have not been able to work out how this bug might get triggered when there is no error in the track, therefore there is probably a second bug for which we have not yet uncovered the cause. Second point: it is possible for FLAC decoders to just keep going when they come across a bad frame. They drop the bad frame and then look for the start of the next frame (which it is possible to identify with a high degree of certainty). I'm pretty sure that this is what the decoder in SqueezePlay does, but not the one hardware players (Squeezebox, Boom, Transporter). Third point: (the bug mentioned above) is a consequence of the fact that the player firmware FLAC decoder uses the wrong protocol mechanism to inform SC of the error, and there are good reasons why this is difficult to fix. So, we are still hunting for the cause of the second bug. The log that Jackswan provided only gave us evidence of the first. This is helpful, thanks. We see that SC did not think that it had finished streaming the track when the player reported that it was ready to stream the next one. This is odd. The track that was playing was ///D:/shares/Music/Oasis-(What%27s%20the%20Story)%20Morning%20Glory%BF/4042%20[Untitled%20Track].flac Did this track play to the end successfully (did you notice)? Are you able to play this track successfully by hand (as a single track)? How long is this track? There are two tracks in the log file, the first is an AC\DC track which is 5:51 minutes long, this stopped playing at 1:18 minutes, same happens when selecting as an individual track. But this track plays fine when playing from the server using FOOBAR. The second track by Oasis is 5:02 minutes long, this plays fine when selected as an individual track and also using FOOBAR. Here is a log file from when Squeezecenter starting playing up again earlier. It shows the start of the track right up to where the squeezebox stopped before the end of the track. The tracks are in Flac format and the transcoder is set to native. Upgraded Squeezecenter to version 7.3.2 to see if this version made any difference. Player set to song mix and random tracks stop playing, only advancing if pressing FWD. Seems as though Squeezecenter is misreading the size of the file. The log file seems very similar to the one that Melor posted above. I've reinstalled Windows Home Server again added an extra 512mb to it and still having problems. This is Squeezecenter version 7.2.1 and using Squeezeplay to see if that replicated the same fault as the Squeezebox, it did. tried several versions of SS (rebuilding DB each time) and not found one that works on random but it's not consistant... sometimes it goes 10 mins, other times an hour before crapping out. Older builds don't seem to be that much different to newer. You might want to try falling back to SqueezeCenter 7.2.x (whatever the last 7.2 version was). Noticed this on my install. Maybe twice in the past week. Not sure if it was in random mode. Checked the time remaining on the song and it was many minutes longer than the actual song. Using Windows software on WHS box. I opened a 'bug report' (http://bugs.slimdevices.com/show_bug.cgi?id=9807) for this. I already had this problem with previous 7.x releases, but as it only occurs very randomly, wasn't able to provide logs showing the problem. [slim] Weird pauses at end of track in random
I've been meaning to ask about this for a while in case I'm not alone! I usually just leave my SB3 playing in Random / Track mode (either set up from remote or via web interface). I've been having the exact same problem, posted a few days ago, but never had a reply. I have a new installation of windows home server and installed version 7.3 of Squeezecenter. Immediatly had this problem so upgraded to 7.3.1, still the same. So today I have uninstalled Squeezecenter and downgraded to 7.0.1 and still have the same problem. Never had this when my server was running Freenas with Squeezecenter 7.0.1.
