2008-07-09 Thread Heuer

Just tried to add the voucher - they have canceled the campaign! Worked
OK yesterday evening when I got as far as clicking 'place order' which
I did not. At £119 for a Controller I probably would have bought it but
not at £199, especially in the current climate. Shame really as it could
have been a good viral marketing campaign. Still the £119 is still in my
bank account rather than Logitech's - something they may want to think
about!

Luck for me I managed to get my order shipped before they wised up. I
just hope they dont recall them from UPS, but it must be very unlikely

What's the average income in NY again?
In Holland it's around 30,000 EUR, and we pay around 40% income taxes
from that.
And then there's VAT and lots of car and fuel taxes too.
Don't worry, you lot still come out on top.

I hate to be off topic again... but I can't keep myself from
responding.

This is the big myth... Although we pay less taxes out of our pay
checks we end up paying a lot more for Education and Health Care than
the folks in Holland. It costs upwards of 20K a year if you want to
send your kid to a decent collegue. How much do you pay in Holland? My
wife and I pay about $1,500 a month for health care coverage. How much
do you pay in Holland? In the US most folks think that these costs are
not taxes... they believe that keeping the money gives them choice.
But in the end with entities like HMOs and pharmaceutical companies
that have not incentive other than making a profit we end up paying an
inflated cost for health care and medicines. I know, I know... people
in Europe would be outraged if they had a middle man between their
doctors and their care... but here in the US is a different story. Some
folks think that Universal Health Care is a bad thing because they
believe that the goverment will mismanage it. But they don't think in
the same way about Social Security.

Well, let me stop... I guess my economic situtation won't get me
Controller at 40% off.

Cheers!

Re: [slim] Ahem: UK readers - 40% discount at Logitech today

2008-07-08 Thread radish

Speaking as someone who has lived in both the US and Europe, doing the
same job for the same company no less, I can say the cost of living
here (US) is considerably less than in the UK. Gas is (less than) half
the price, eating out is half the price, technology is significantly
cheaper, real estate is cheaper, cars are cheaper, tax is less. The US
is certainly hurting right now, but a lot of what I see is due to
people assuming things would stay affordable and building unsustainable
lifestyles. Giant houses with inefficient A/C, too many cars, not enough
public transport, living too far from their work, etc etc. It'll be a
painful adjustment but it'll work out in the end :)

In some parts of England as many as 70% of people 'in work' are
actually on the public payroll doing government jobs.

No wonder the taxation on working people is sky-high, with many, many
'stealth' taxes. For example, we are taxed for the National Health
Service, but most people also have to pay again for private dentistry.
 Same for schooling.

Ok we are off topic.. but lets be honest for the people that take the
mick out of the system there are many more that are saved by it. I pay
a stack of tax but overall its for the common good of the country as a
whole.

That said, value for money is a different story...

black helicopters following me yet!

Looks, from forum posts, as if others are OK too. Basically, what have
you got to lose? It seems to me that the worst that could happen would
be a refusal to accept your order

Re: [slim] Ahem: UK readers - 40% discount at Logitech today

2008-07-07 Thread wliptrot

I tried to place order, but at initial screen, it refused to take
evoucher number and said invalid. Further in the check out screens,
there was nowhere else to enter the code.

Can you clarify

It works for me. Check you copied it correctly (make sure you didn't
copy the full stop at the end of the code from the original post).

They don't sell Transporters on their website. I'd be willing to punt
£840 on a new TP just to give it a blast, as I could resell at little
or no loss. Oh well.

Some people seem to be having problems with the voucher when trying to
order the squeezebox classic. Looks like you'd have to go for the duet
to get the discount.

As somebody on the HotUKDeals noticed, the code only seems to work on
some products. E.g. it works for the Duet but not for the SB3.

Has your phone been wiretapped though :-)

Just placed an order for a Duet. Comes to £170-90 with shipping.

Thanks again Jungle, nice find.

Tsk, as any fule no, once you're wearing a tinfoil hat, nothing can get
you...

BTW - Glad you've managed to get a Duet. I settled for a Controller but
will have, later this evening, to explain to my other half why I took my
cow to market and came back with a handful of magic beans. Should be an
interesting conversation, given the credit crunch in Jungle towers...

Re: [slim] Ahem: UK readers - 40% discount at Logitech today

2008-07-07 Thread Sike

I have just realized that even a 20% would make the SB3 a good deal on
the Logitech web site.

Was there not a 20% evoucher around here once? (Jellybelly no longer
works)

Why do you think the SB3 was not included? Was the 'old' Slimdevices
pricing too agressive for Logitech?

4-10 working days according to the Logitech FAQ.
