I mean: it's not a big "worked" if you start random playback once
before the party and that's it for interaction then, isn't it? I mean,
a command line would have done for that, it's really not a big thing.

The fun with parties starts when people can add stuff they like and
play DJ themselves.
You can get to "add next" when you "hold" a track in the Logi App. And
yes, it works.

I tried that, but could not get it to work, it was a good party anyway
and the Logitech app worked, so that really the point of the exercise,
maybe they will make some improvements to it over the years, maybe not
!

Well, that's what party mode does...
But actually you can do that with the Logitech App, too, but be
prepared that your guests might accidentally blow away the playlist.

Just add tracks with "play next" and the random mix will continue after
the added track.

Just to understand your setup: you created a playlist before the party
started and the iPad was only operated by yourself? Were your guests
allowed to have wishes for new music and have you been able to
incorporate them easily?

I think when me and pippin think of party it's rather our own 'small'
parties in our own home where the iPad is handed around so that
everyone is allowed to browse the library (and manipulate/extend the
playlist).
Of course a totally different setup to the one you just tried - so
waiting for your next test with this setup :)

but this box of Corona beer in the corner also helps - party on :-)

this iPad app has survived the party, it is not perfect, but I can
really see the potential, it is a good starter for ten, and that bodes
well for people who then want extra bells & whistles to buy iPeng or

Re: [slim] Logitech Squeezebox Controller app on iPad

2011-09-03 Thread Mnyb

they paid for apps are much quicker as gary sugested, however some
artwork processing is done by the server to give you artsizes not
precached during the scan . IPeng uses some of it's own sizes too

also if you turn of artwork precaching to make faster scans you pay in
this end instead . as the standard sizes are not in the cache (
artwork.db )
i supose art from already played tunes will apaear faster ?

also size matters reasonable sized jpg is the best compromise, bmp or
png is not a god idea it craves more memory and cpu to resize, 500*500
pixels jpg seems to satisfy most users.

IPeng processes any art SqueezePad may choke above 1200*1200 px I have
some insanely huge art just because I can ;)

people running SBS on quad core servers may not notice these sublte
differences, using a relatively ligth server I've noticed real
diferences in cpu use with for example SB3 that needs no art and
controlling My Touch with my Controller ( 2 squeezeplay devices needing
art at the same time ).
