I usually go with Pocket Casts (known as Sprocket in LMS). The android
app has an option to change the play order for selected podcasts.
Sadly this option isn't available for Podcasts and Sprocket plugins.

you mean like "Paul is dead.."?

Seriously, I guess what is being asked is that podcast series be brought
in by the LMS plugin similar to a music album - first song at the top. I
can see the logic in that.

Personally, I haven't been using the reorder method, and I haven't been
using bookmarks (maybe I should). I have just been going into "recently
played", noting which episode I last listened to, then going into the
series and navigating to the next one.

But, that doesn't address "the play the next one after current one
finishes" desire, which was in one of the previous threads, so maybe I
should take the time to reorder and bookmark.

I am completely with you @castalla - I also still miss a "reordering"
episode / Playlist feature.
And I asked for it some time ago - but was also referred to material
drag approach.
See here:
https://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?115226-LMS-Feature-request(-)-invert-playlist-top-to-bottom-gt-bottom-to-top=1034900=1#post1034900

Which is fine - as long as you are not dealing with a Podcast, which
consists of i.e. ~100 2-4 Minute snippets.
(Some Audiobooks are setup like that unfortunately)

So - I would really like to see a feature like that as well.

Agree, but the order of the episodes is a LMS thing, and we are just
using Material's select and drag and drop capabilities to reorder. So,
it's probably more of a LMS thing to address.

I thought the same thing at first, but then when I came to my senses and
realized, say a season of 10, 1hour episodes (10 hours of listening)
could be reordered in under a minute, rather than asking a developer to
spend his time on a sort, I decided not to ask :)

This plugin seems to almost work, but is not quite ready for use (fails
to play sometimes, fails to play the entire file sometimes, repeats the
announcement multiple times if playlist loop is active, etc).
However, wouldn't it make sense to add "announce" to the supported http

Yes I unzip the folders.

As I mentioned earlier in this thread I tried downloading as flac (and
of course unzipping that folder) and it didn't work. Looks like I still
have to do my own conversion.

I'm very, very new to the world of buying digital music outside of the
apple ecosystem. For most of my years since using a server, I've either
ripped my CDs or downloaded music, all via the itunes interface.
I wanted a dedicated system for streaming (hence the pi/logitech
system), and to step out in the bold new world outside apple's
offerings. Including hi-res downloads. So it was a bummer for my first
purchases to not work easily. I'll try some HD downloads soon.

I am not familiar with the site where you bought the files, but I’m
guessing there is something a bit odd about their file format. This
“kludge” is not normally necessary for getting files to be recognized
and play in LMS.

Update:

I bought another album from the same web site (showup records).

This time I bought it and downloaded it on to my home mac then
transferred the new album to my external drive. Like the last album, it
would not show up when scanned.
I had to batch convert from the downloaded AIFF format to FLAC on the

It's good to at least have a solution, but it's still frustrating to be
stuck with a kludge for buying digital music.

It may just be that there was something odd about these particular
downloaded files in terms of file format (that LMS didn't like). Have
you downloaded files from different sources and they all exhibited the
problem. Or is the problem limited to a set of files from one vendor?

Ok, finally that worked!

I had to download a to-flac converter for mac. Converted the AIFF files
to flac on my home mac, and then copied to my external drive. Scanned,
and it all showed up, artwork and everything.

Ok, so what is my lesson going forward here? I still don't really
understand why this would be necessary.

Do I have to plan to re-convert every digital album I download on to my
work mac?

Is there any reason I might not have to do this with my home mac ? (My
home mac is actually my previous work mac that I have as a spare
computer...I can't imagine why one would be any more trouble to purchase
music with than the other).

Re: [slim] Can't Play Digital Music Purchases! Help?

2018-10-27 Thread Matt Hooper

Ugh!

Ok, so I copied the album (both AIFF and FLAC version) to my home imac,
then copied it back on to my music folder in the external drive.
Re-scanned: the album still won't show up.

I was thinking of trying to buy another digital album from the same
place and just trying again. If I do that, are there suggestions for
how I could go about downloading that album? Should I download using my
home mac instead?

I still don't get why my work mac would have a problem that any of my
other macs wouldn't have in terms of this permissions stuff.

You could log on to the pi with a terminal and make sure you have the
rigth user and file and folder permissions on the files.

Also if you mount the drive over the network and have it always conected
to the pi , when you transfer files they will usually get the rigth user
if you set up things correctly .

Linux system can be a bit finicky with users and file rigths.

No I don’t mean that.
Linux works with users and file permissions for that user.
When you copy music from your home Mac to the USB disk the files get
stamped with the user id for the user of the home Mac. This is probably
the admin user (or “root” in Linux terms). Your LMS on the Pi will also
use “root” so can read the files,
The user you have on the work Mac is in all probability NOT root so when
you copy files from there they are owned by that user and may not be
readable by the Pi.
By making fresh copies on your home Mac and writing them from there they
should assume the same user as all the rest on the USB disk.
If it isn’t that then it will be that the audio files themselves are not
compatible. To fix that it is usually a case of reconverting them from
FLAC to FLAC using some other software.

I don’t think this is typically a problem unless you’ve done something
non default with LMS install regarding the user. In my own case in
addition to my cds ripped on a windows machine, I have downloaded
purchased files, free files, etc. on my windows machine then transferred
those to other windows machines, and Linux machines, including vortex
box (fedora Linux) and an RPi running LMS. (See my signature)

With all this, I’ve never had a single issue with file permissions on
using files in all locations. And I’ve never had to set anything related
to permissions.

I will try that later today.

But I'm still confused about what is purportedly causing the problem.

Do you mean that a purchased digital album only comes with "permission"
to play on the computer it was downloaded to? If that's the case...how
do we ever transfer this music to an external drive for use in our music

You could try to drag and drop a FLAC version of a track. If that
doesn't work then maybe try converting one of the files to FLAC yourself
and trying that.

SLARTIBARTFAST,

I copied the album from my external drive to the original mac (work mac)
on which I downloaded the files. Then I copied the album folder back
from the mac to my external drive, in to a new folder "test music"
folder.
Upon re-scanning, the album still doesn't show up in the squeezebox GUI.

Re: [slim] Can't Play Digital Music Purchases! Help?

2018-10-25 Thread Matt Hooper

GRAYM,

The files are downloaded. The album folder is 596 MB. Each file song
name has .aiff on the end. Under "kind" of file is listed "AIFF-C
audio."

SLARTIBARTFAST,

I don't think I made my question clear. What I meant was: If it's a
permissions problem linked to a particular computer, why can I easily
open and play the album on either my work mac or home mac?
And also, if it's a permissions problem linked to a single computer,
how would I ever play the files in either case, no matter what mac I
used to download? Because whatever computer I use to download from, I
will still be copying it on to an external music driver hooked up to the
Pi, and won't be using the original mac to play the files anyway.
That's what has me confused about your suggestion.

I'll try the step you suggested. Thanks.

Not sure, but your description makes me think you havent actually
downloaded the files. You just have links to the files. In the listing
of files in the album folder on your thumb drive, what file types are
shown? Name.flac, etc.

Because a Mac is Linux and each user of a Linux system has a unique ID.

What happens if you copy the files back from your external HD to your
home Mac then put another copy back onto the external HD but in a
different folder e.g. from Music/Some Artist/Some Album but back to
Music/Some Artist/Some Album 2 ?

That is almost certainly the issue. You used a different machine and the
permissions for the files you moved have those permissions. LMS can't
read them. Try again via your home Mac.

No, only _some_. What exact rules apply I don't know, tbh. I know that
new members go through stronger rules. And posting log files or URLs
etc. adds to the risk of being moderated, too. I guess it's based on
some filter which tries to figure out whether somebody tried to
obfuscate spammy messages and the like. Overall it's probably a hand
full of messages a day.

Re: [slim] Stop 'Play All Songs'

2017-02-09 Thread amatala

Thanks for the great info, I was very happy to find this old thread.

I have been facing the same problem myself: I have several custom menus,
some of them holding +100K tracks.

Hitting "Play All" by mistake in SqueezeCommander or Orange Squeeze on
my phone or tablet caused the server to hang indefinitely while trying
to build up those huge playlists. The only possibble way out was killing
and restarting the server...

After adding the none to all menus and submenus
which should not have a "Play All" option, the problem is solved. I
still have "Play All" available in the albums and tracks lists of
specific artists, but the number of items at those levels is rather
limited!

Re: [slim] Google Play Music Matching - how does it work?

2016-01-21 Thread d6jg

I did some tests this AM.

I chose one of my Eric Clapton albums which wasn't "matched". It was
There's One In Every Crowd ripped from vinyl to FLAC.

I found that one track has a slightly different title to what appeared
in Wikipedia and on Amazon so I changed the tag on my FLAC to match.
Deleted the album from Google play and re-uploaded. It is now a clean
matched mp3 without the scratchy intro.

This tells me that Google operate the matching at a folder/track level
i.e. if one file in a folder is wrongly tagged then the whole folder is
physically uploaded and the whole album is simply a transcoded version
of my FLAC scratches and all.

In this case the error was simple to spot - the track in question was
tagged as We've Been Told (Jesus Coming Soon) when it apparently should
be We've Been Told (Jesus *Is* Coming Soon).

Blondie's Plastic Letters is also unmatched and a quick scan of the
tracks suggests to me that the culprit is (I'm Always Touched by Your)
Presence Dear which should be (I'm Always Touched by Your) Presence*,*
Dear

Capitalisation seems to have been accounted for in the algorithm but not
missing characters.

I wonder what would happen if I took a bunch of say 10 random mp3s or
FLACs stuck them together into one folder and tagged them as the ten
tracks from say Abbey Road. If the tagging was correct would Google
present me a nice hires set of mp3s that were actually Abbey Road ? Dare
I ?

Note. Before someone says surely the track length matters. No. I
mentioned Best of Cream and White Room earlier. The track Google give
you is the album version at over 4 mins but their library says it is the
3 minute something single version. When you play it the track continues
playing after the track end point !!

pippin wrote:

So you think if a tag doesn't exactly match their database it doesn't
work for a whole album?

At what level would you imagine the comparison is - album or track?

I can't see how I could of tagged the Artist / Album wrongly for Eric
Clapton / Backless which is one that isn't matched. Maybe at track level
there could be a typo or other difference.

Your theory does make sense as I have a vinyl copy of Best Of Cream
which never made it to CD. Not at all rare but it is the only Cream
album which carries the single version of White Room. All others carry
the full album version.

The album in question is scratchy but Google have replaced my FLACs with
a clean MP3 except that White Room is the full album version which
proves it is a match!

In some cases I am going to replace my scratchy FLACs with Google mp3s.
Some of my wife's albums really have been abused to a degree where a
256kbps MP3 is better than a vinyl rip to FLAC. This may also be the
case for Best of Cream but I really would like the single version of
White Room - a bit OCD is me.

Re: [slim] Stop 'Play All Songs'

2011-11-28 Thread PasTim

sts78;662857 Wrote:
 Well, my approach was...:

I have a lot of classical music, some dozens of albums, and a bunch of
songs without albums assigned (singles). Each of the three genres has
its very own navigation structure, because artist-album-track is quite
unusable with classical music, where composer-genre-work-movement is
a much better approach (in my opinion). And artist-album-track is
annoying for singles, there is a plain artist-track useful. So I
created three separate menus for them.

I just clicked on create new menu, took any template and went
straight to the bottom of the page and clicked on customize without
bothering to set any option in the template menu. There I built the
xml/sql menu from scratch (well, now and then copypaste'ing some
snippets I found online ;) ). Saved them under MyAlbums.cb.xml,
 MyClassic.cb.xml, MySingles.xb.xml...

Because I wanted all three menus accessible from ONE of the footer
buttons in iPeng, I grouped them together (each of the three menu got
 its menugroup-tag on top).
Some weeks later... I have had a go at modifying some of my menus in a
similar way to the way that you suggested, and it does help - thanks.

I now realise I am still out of my depth here (once again). I know
a bit of xml, and quite a lot of SQL, but I don't understand how and
where the underlying CB menus are stored or processed. I've a number
of tailored menus (xxx.cb.values.xml) but those contain data processed
by some other xml. So I'm not sure which menu you are editing, or
where it is.

Re: [slim] Stop 'Play All Songs'

2011-10-12 Thread sts78

Well, my approach was...:

I have a lot of classical music, some dozens of albums, and a bunch of
songs without albums assigned (singles). Each of the three genres has
its very own navigation structure, because artist-album-track is quite
unusable with classical music, where composer-genre-work-movement is
a much better approach (in my opinion). And artist-album-track is
annoying for singles, there is a plain artist-track useful. So I
created three separate menus for them.

I just clicked on create new menu, took any template and went
straight to the bottom of the page and clicked on customize without
bothering setting any options in the template menu.

OK - thanks very much. I hadn't appreciated you started from scratch -
I thought you were modifying an existing one. I have a lot of
classical, and another custom tag that I use ('work artist' - the main
artist for a work, which isn't necessarily the artist for the whole
album, and may not be the only artist on some tracks).

This will take me quite some time to get into. I'm aware of the
various tags used in CB menus (from the wiki), so will have a crack
creating a new one and see how far I can get. :)

Re: [slim] Stop 'Play All Songs'

2011-10-07 Thread sts78

Sorry for grave digging this thread, but the play all menu item annoys
me too. More than once I clicked accidently on it. I have menus like
Composer-Genre-Work-Movement. A click on play all on the composer
level is near to useless (except you want a justification for going to
lunch, and who wants a 50 days playlist of dozens of composers?).

@erland:
Is there any way to create a parameter for the xml menus to hide this
play all on the concerning menu level? Maybe like

Code:

  menu
  hideplayall0|1/hideplayall
  menunameArtists/menuname
  ...
  /menu

With this you could create CB menus like
Genre [no play all] - Artist [no play all] - Albums [play all] -
Tracks [play all]

Just make sure you don't have two playtype elements on the same
level, if one already exists you need to change it.

I haven't tried it myself but the purpose of it is to make items as not
playable.

Quite often it is one of the Custom Browse menus (eg Works by Composer)
where there are around 12,000 tracks. If I just hit the play button by
mistake, rather than the menu name, then it goes off and thinks to
itself for ever.

I'm now on SB 7.6.1 and latest versions of your plugins.

CustomBrowse menus are custom, so you can remove the menu item.

Also, it's not part of ther server functionality. You can't really
blame the server for something you added yourself.

Maybe you should ask for help in the CustomBrowse thread under 3rd
party plugins.

I wasn't blaming anyone, just curious to see if there way of helping
me avoid a problem that's hit me a few times.

Since I almost always use Custom Browse I hadn't appreciated that the
possibility of messing up is somewhat greater with those menus than
with the standard SB ones (which don't provide a 'Play All'option at
the top level). On doing a few more functional tests I also find it's
mainly in the web interface that it's too easy for the mouse to stray.
With the Touch interface it's somewhat harder to select 'Play All' for a
selected menu item.

Removing the Custom Browse menus is not an option. For me, SB is
almost unusable without them. I'll work out if I can see a way to
restrict the options at the higher level menus. If not I'll ask in the
3rd party plugin forum.

I didn't mean removing the custom browse menu but the Play All option
on the Custom Browse menus.

Also, a workable workaround could be to reduce the maximum number of
tracks in the current playlist (Settings-Advanced-Performance). I
always thought that the default of 500 was safe but if it's not on your
system you could reduce it.

Re: [slim] Stop 'Play All Songs'

2011-08-06 Thread PasTim

erland;647524 Wrote:
Would the problem be solved if I removed the Play all item on all top

The problem can still occur on lower level depending on your library
size and menu configuration but removing it from the top level would
probably not cause any harm as it's often not working properly anyway.

The other option, which also might work, is to limit the number of
played tracks to the Maximum Playlist Length setting in SBS
Settings/Advanced/Performance, at least as long as the user doesn't
raise this to a lot higher value than the defult (500).

I tried limiting the playlist length, not being sure if it applies to
CB or not. I stopped restarted to make sure it was saved properly. I
then ensured at least some items had been read into memory once by
selecting the menu item normally (this is sometimes a bit slow the
first time after start-up). I then selected 'Play All' for 'Works by
Composer' (but it could have been any of the CB items) where there are
around 12,000 tracks. It made no difference for me.

If you could limit the list to the Maximum Playlist Length that would
help, and would protect all menu levels. but please don't go out of your
way. I'm sure there are better uses of your time :-)

If I have to I can stop restart the server manually - it is, after
all, my mistake.

Thanks, but as I have said in my reply to Erland, the setting made no
difference. I'm not quite sure why. I don't know how to modify the

Thanks for the replies, guys. I don't have any custom channels yet, so
my only experience is with the mediafly ones such as Science and
Technology. As I only have a SB3, I can't verify that streaming works
properly on other SB devices. As I said in my OP, I am currently using
the latest version of SBS (7.5.3), but the Play channel function has
not worked for me with many previous versions of the F/W. Also note
from my previous post that this is the case using MySB and various
operating systems on 3 different computers. It would be helpful to
know if anyone else can play a channel with a SB3 without it stopping
after the 1st item in the playlist.
