castalla wrote: > Maybe I'll just listen to a series in reverse order... Maybe there's > some hidden meaning lurking there. you mean like "Paul is dead.."? Seriously, I guess what is being asked is that podcast series be brought in by the LMS plugin similar to a music album - first song at the top. I can see the logic in that. Personally, I haven't been using the reorder method, and I haven't been using bookmarks (maybe I should). I have just been going into "recently played", noting which episode I last listened to, then going into the series and navigating to the next one. But, that doesn't address "the play the next one after current one finishes" desire, which was in one of the previous threads, so maybe I should take the time to reorder and bookmark. I am completely with you @castalla - I also still miss a "reordering" episode / Playlist feature. And I asked for it some time ago - but was also referred to material drag approach. See here: https://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?115226-LMS-Feature-request(-)-invert-playlist-top-to-bottom-gt-bottom-to-top=1034900=1#post1034900 Which is fine - as long as you are not dealing with a Podcast, which consists of i.e. ~100 2-4 Minute snippets. (Some Audiobooks are setup like that unfortunately) So - I would really like to see a feature like that as well. slimhase's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=31958 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=115702 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

Agree, but the order of the episodes is a LMS thing, and we are just using Material's select and drag and drop capabilities to reorder. So, it's probably more of a LMS thing to address. I thought the same thing at first, but then when I came to my senses and realized, say a season of 10, 1hour episodes (10 hours of listening) could be reordered in under a minute, rather than asking a developer to spend his time on a sort, I decided not to ask :) Jim Redrum's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=33806 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=115702 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

Re: [slim] Can't Play Digital Music Purchases! Help?
I'm very, very new to the world of buying digital music outside of the apple ecosystem. For most of my years since using a server, I've either ripped my CDs or downloaded music, all via the itunes interface. I wanted a dedicated system for streaming (hence the pi/logitech system), and to step out in the bold new world outside apple's offerings. Including hi-res downloads. So it was a bummer for my first purchases to not work easily. I'll try some HD downloads soon. It may just be that there was something odd about these particular downloaded files in terms of file format (that LMS didn't like). Have you downloaded files from different sources and they all exhibited the problem. If that's the case...how > do we ever transfer this music to an external drive for use in our music > server system? No I dont mean that. Linux works with users and file permissions for that user. When you copy music from your home Mac to the USB disk the files get stamped with the user id for the user of the home Mac. This is probably the admin user (or root in Linux terms). Your LMS on the Pi will also use root so can read the files, The user you have on the work Mac is in all probability NOT root so when you copy files from there they are owned by that user and may not be readable by the Pi. By making fresh copies on your home Mac and writing them from there they should assume the same user as all the rest on the USB disk. If it isnt that then it will be that the audio files themselves are not compatible. To fix that it is usually a case of reconverting them from FLAC to FLAC using some other software. I dont think this is typically a problem unless youve done something non default with LMS install regarding the user. In my own case in addition to my cds ripped on a windows machine, I have downloaded purchased files, free files, etc. on my windows machine then transferred those to other windows machines, and Linux machines, including vortex box (fedora Linux) and an RPi running LMS. (See my signature) With all this, Ive never had a single issue with file permissions on using files in all locations. And Ive never had to set anything related to permissions. *Home:* VBA 4TB (2.4)>LMS 7.9.1>Transporter, Touch, Boom, Radio (ethernet) *Cottage:* VBA 3TB (2.4)>LMS 7.9.1>Touch> Benchmark DAC I, Boom, Radio w/Battery (ethernet except Radio) *Office:* Win8(64) > LMS 7.9.1>Squeezelite *Wilderness: *PiCorePlayer 4.0 on rPi 3B+, hifiberry Dac+Pro, 4TB USB (LMS & Squeezelite) *Controllers:* iPhone6 & iPadAir2 (iPeng & Squeezepad), CONTROLLER, or SqueezePlay 7.8 on Win10(64) laptop *Files:* ripping: dbpoweramp > FLAC; post-rip: mp3tag, PerfectTunes; Streaming: Spotify garym's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=17325 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=109641 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

You could try to drag and drop a FLAC version of a track. If that doesn't work then maybe try converting one of the files to FLAC yourself and trying that. Re: [slim] Can't Play Digital Music Purchases! Help?
GRAYM, The files are downloaded. The album folder is 596 MB. Each file song name has .aiff on the end. Under "kind" of file is listed "AIFF-C audio." SLARTIBARTFAST, I don't think I made my question clear. What I meant was: If it's a permissions problem linked to a particular computer, why can I easily open and play the album on either my work mac or home mac? And also, if it's a permissions problem linked to a single computer, how would I ever play the files in either case, no matter what mac I used to download? Because whatever computer I use to download from, I will still be copying it on to an external music driver hooked up to the Pi, and won't be using the original mac to play the files anyway. That's what has me confused about your suggestion. I'll try the step you suggested. Thanks. Thanks for the great info, I was very happy to find this old thread. I have been facing the same problem myself: I have several custom menus, some of them holding +100K tracks. Hitting "Play All" by mistake in SqueezeCommander or Orange Squeeze on my phone or tablet caused the server to hang indefinitely while trying to build up those huge playlists. The only possibble way out was killing and restarting the server... After adding the none to all menus and submenus which should not have a "Play All" option, the problem is solved. I did some tests this AM. I chose one of my Eric Clapton albums which wasn't "matched". It was There's One In Every Crowd ripped from vinyl to FLAC. I found that one track has a slightly different title to what appeared in Wikipedia and on Amazon so I changed the tag on my FLAC to match. Deleted the album from Google play and re-uploaded. It is now a clean matched mp3 without the scratchy intro. This tells me that Google operate the matching at a folder/track level i.e. if one file in a folder is wrongly tagged then the whole folder is physically uploaded and the whole album is simply a transcoded version of my FLAC scratches and all. In this case the error was simple to spot - the track in question was tagged as We've Been Told (Jesus Coming Soon) when it apparently should be We've Been Told (Jesus *Is* Coming Soon). Blondie's Plastic Letters is also unmatched and a quick scan of the tracks suggests to me that the culprit is (I'm Always Touched by Your) Presence Dear which should be (I'm Always Touched by Your) Presence*,* Dear Capitalisation seems to have been accounted for in the algorithm but not missing characters. I wonder what would happen if I took a bunch of say 10 random mp3s or FLACs stuck them together into one folder and tagged them as the ten tracks from say Abbey Road. If the tagging was correct would Google present me a nice hires set of mp3s that were actually Abbey Road ? Dare I ? Note. Before someone says surely the track length matters. No. I mentioned Best of Cream and White Room earlier. The track Google give you is the album version at over 4 mins but their library says it is the 3 minute something single version. When you play it the track continues playing after the track end point !! *Vortexbox LMS 7.8 music on QNAP TS419p via NFS* iThingys/iPeng/Tablets *Living Room* - SB3 -> Onkyo TS606 - > Celestion Ditton F20s - Zone 2 -> Sony TA FE 320 -> Sennheiser RS 130 & B P7 *Office* - RPi -> Sony TA FE320 -> Celestion F10s / SB3 -> Onkyo CRN 755 -> Wharfedale Modus Cubes *Dining Room* -> SB Boom *Kitchen* -> UE Radio (upgraded to SB Radio) *Bedroom (Bedside)* - SB Touch -> Topping TP21 -> AKG Headphones *Bedroom (TV)* - Amazon Fire TV (SB Player) -> Topping TP20 -> Wharfedale Modus Cubes d6jg's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=44051 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=105058 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

Re: [slim] Google Play Music Matching - how does it work?
pippin wrote: > I think it just uses tags So you think if a tag doesn't exactly match their database it doesn't work for a whole album? At what level would you imagine the comparison is - album or track? I can't see how I could of tagged the Artist / Album wrongly for Eric Clapton / Backless which is one that isn't matched. Maybe at track level there could be a typo or other difference. Your theory does make sense as I have a vinyl copy of Best Of Cream which never made it to CD. Not at all rare but it is the only Cream album which carries the single version of White Room. All others carry the full album version. The album in question is scratchy but Google have replaced my FLACs with a clean MP3 except that White Room is the full album version which proves it is a match! In some cases I am going to replace my scratchy FLACs with Google mp3s. Some of my wife's albums really have been abused to a degree where a 256kbps MP3 is better than a vinyl rip to FLAC. This may also be the case for Best of Cream but I really would like the single version of White Room - a bit OCD is me. *Vortexbox LMS 7.8 music on QNAP TS419p via NFS* iThingys/iPeng/Tablets *Living Room* - SB3 -> Onkyo TS606 - > Celestion Ditton F20s - Zone 2 -> Sony TA FE 320 -> Sennheiser RS 130 & B P7 *Office* - RPi -> Sony TA FE320 -> Celestion F10s / SB3 -> Onkyo CRN 755 -> Wharfedale Modus Cubes *Dining Room* -> SB Boom *Kitchen* -> UE Radio (upgraded to SB Radio) *Bedroom (Bedside)* - SB Touch -> Topping TP21 -> AKG Headphones *Bedroom (TV)* - Amazon Fire TV (SB Player) -> Topping TP20 -> Wharfedale Modus Cubes d6jg's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=44051 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=105058 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

I wasn't blaming anyone, just curious to see if there way of helping me avoid a problem that's hit me a few times. Since I almost always use Custom Browse I hadn't appreciated that the possibility of messing up is somewhat greater with those menus than with the standard SB ones (which don't provide a 'Play All'option at the top level). On doing a few more functional tests I also find it's mainly in the web interface that it's too easy for the mouse to stray. With the Touch interface it's somewhat harder to select 'Play All' for a selected menu item. Removing the Custom Browse menus is not an option. For me, SB is almost unusable without them. I'll work out if I can see a way to restrict the options at the higher level menus. If not I'll ask in the 3rd party plugin forum. -- PasTim PasTim's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=41642 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=89378 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

Also, a workable workaround could be to reduce the maximum number of tracks in the current playlist (Settings-Advanced-Performance). I always thought that the default of 500 was safe but if it's not on your system you could reduce it. -- pippin --- see iPeng, the Squeezebox iPhone remote and *New: iPeng for iPad*, at penguinlovesmusic.com pippin's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=13777 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=89378 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

erland;647524 Wrote: Would the problem be solved if I removed the Play all item on all top level Custom Browse menus ? The problem can still occur on lower level depending on your library size and menu configuration but removing it from the top level would probably not cause any harm as it's often not working properly anyway. The other option, which also might work, is to limit the number of played tracks to the Maximum Playlist Length setting in SBS Settings/Advanced/Performance, at least as long as the user doesn't raise this to a lot higher value than the defult (500). I tried limiting the playlist length, not being sure if it applies to CB or not. I stopped restarted to make sure it was saved properly. I then ensured at least some items had been read into memory once by selecting the menu item normally (this is sometimes a bit slow the first time after start-up). I then selected 'Play All' for 'Works by Composer' (but it could have been any of the CB items) where there are around 12,000 tracks. It made no difference for me. If you could limit the list to the Maximum Playlist Length that would help, and would protect all menu levels. but please don't go out of your way. I'm sure there are better uses of your time :-) If I have to I can stop restart the server manually - it is, after all, my mistake. -- PasTim PasTim's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=41642 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=89378 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

I'm not quite sure why. I don't know how to modify the menu itself to remove the option, and am anyway loathe to muck around with someone else's very good menus. -- PasTim PasTim's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=41642 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=89378 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

Thanks for any info you can provide SB3/Classic and Boom are basically the same architecture. Re: [slim] Mediafly Play Channel not working correctly
Thanks for the replies, guys. I don't have any custom channels yet, so my only experience is with the mediafly ones such as Science and Technology. As I only have a SB3, I can't verify that streaming works properly on other SB devices. As I said in my OP, I am currently using the latest version of SBS (7.5.3), but the Play channel function has not worked for me with many previous versions of the F/W. Also note from my previous post that this is the case using MySB and various operating systems on 3 different computers. It would be helpful to know if anyone else can play a channel with a SB3 without it stopping after the 1st item in the playlist. -- raglencross raglencross's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=7239 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=86008 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
