I think it is a grey area - "application/octet-stream" is a generic MIME type. I've seen it applied to most types of http traffic including txt , html, video as well as mp4 and mp3. FWIW: I thought I had removed that mapping (application/octet-stream -> mp4) back in march (in 7.8+), as it usually points out an incorrectly configured server. I think the server is returning the MIME type as "application/octet-stream" which in default LMS is set up to be mp4 - in which case it will fail.
