I'm actually seriously suggesting that Logitech are weakening the Squeezebox brand. It's one of the best devices I've ever bought, yet I feel that its value has been decreased by the unnecessary application of what I perceive to be an unrelated manufacturer's logo. Perhaps I'm being petty, but it doesn't feel like it. The fact that others are also feeling the same thing suggests that there is a real issue here, albeit a subtle one. S. -- Skidoo! buy a chiquita banana and place their sticker onto the logitech logo... this will be the perfect way to restore your pc peripheral thing back to a squeezebox! If you are unlucky and got a banana without sticker - no problem... buy them here... http://www.yourcompanycollection.com/chiquita/ As soon as I am able to get a banana I will create a photo-manual-slideshow thing, link it here, to be certain every one can do this without help form any computer dude... cs -- Schindler Schindler's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=8461 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=35746 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

gian;205864 Wrote: > okay, okay, you can hack it, but that's not the point... > WE WANT THE SLIMDEVICES LOGO BACK ! > support your local Squeezebox, claim back your Slimdevices logo! > -Gian I have to say I completely agree. I only recently upgraded my slimserver, and was crestfallen to see the Logitech logo plastered over everything (I had no idea Slim Devices had been bought). It's not that I have anything against Logitech, but I associate the name with ubiquitous PC peripherals. The whole point of buying a Squeezebox was to get me *away* from the computer and into the living room. Now I have to go back into the computer room to mess about with the slimserver distribution! I'm not impressed. Slim Devices should be a subsidiary of Logitech and should not be used to push the Logitech brand into places where it's not welcome. At the very least, choice of logo should be a preference in the slimserver configuration. Is that unreasonable? S. -- Skidoo! OK so I'm shallow. I accept the argument that the lable on the box shouldn't effect any decision and that you should use your ears. I have been fortunate to babysit a friends Transporter for a couple of weeks and yes there is a difference and yes I want one, the money isn't really an issue, well not as much as the aforementioned logo. I may still have to swallow my pride but in the meantime I will contiune to make some noise... literally. I guess an alternative would be to offer the units unbranded on the front? It probably isn't to hard to find a .gif image of a Rolex logo, or a Mercedes-Benz logo, or a Lamborghini logo. Why not grab one of those and replace the slimdevices/logitec logo? Your guests will be most impressed! If they say "I didn't know Lamborghini made audio equipment" you can reply "Yes, few people know about it. Re: [slim] Umm, Slim Devices Logo (Instead of Logitech)?
Great products are a good way to resuscitate a stagnant brand. Remember when Toyota had a reputation for cheaply constructed cars that would fall apart much faster than their American counterparts? Remember when no self-respecting UNIX geek would be caught dead using an Apple computer? Things change, albeit slowly and with great resistance. Yes, it's true that a bad brand image could hurt sales for a good product. It works in reverse too, though. I'd say that the SlimDevices acquisition has been the best thing to have ever happened for Logitech in this respect. -- CatBus CatBus's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=7461 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=35746 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
Re: [slim] Umm, Slim Devices Logo (Instead of Logitech)?
Branding is the reason people do a great deal of things, including spending trillions of dollars each year on product X instead of having spent it on product Y. Like many others, the Logitech brand holds about as much appeal to me as a smelly sweat sock. But it's not hard to imagine that folks within Logitech are rather fond of it. Could be a mistake, or it may make no difference at all. The bigger question is what future products will look like and how business will be conducted as they try to work out what has so far appeared to be a messy acquisition. My guess is that a fair portion of the current user base is going to be somewhat put off as they target the mass consumer market. I would speculate that the radical brand change and the complete demise of the 'Slim Devices' brand name is based on SD's relatively small market penetration in a fairly new product category. Where Logitech is likely to target their future products, few people have heard of Slim Devices. We'll just have to wait and see how that works out for everyone involved. -- JJZolx Jim JJZolx's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=10 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=35746 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

Re: [slim] Umm, Slim Devices Logo (Instead of Logitech)?
Keith;206151 Wrote: > Brand is important otherwise why would companies protect them so > much Quite so. This is a simple matter of marketing. Bread-and-butter companies need to distinguish themselves in the high-end marketplace. - When Ford bought Jaguar, did they start sticking blue ovals on XK8s? - When Electrolux bought Husqvarna, did they change the brand name? - And closer to home: during the time Philips owned Marantz, did they drop the name? - Some companies even invent luxury marques for their top end models (eg. Toyota/Lexus). There's a pattern here, and I for one cannot understand how Logitech can fail to take notice of the actions of these much more experienced companies. It's one thing to stick a Logitech logo on a Squeezebox, which can be seen as a mass-market device. But to put it on a Transporter is plain stupid, marketing-wise. -- cliveb Transporter -> ATC SCM100A cliveb's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=348 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=35746 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

I acknowledge that a lot of people feel this way, I'm just not one of them. I'm happy with my Squeezeboxes regardless of the logo on them.
