Re: [discuss] Open Office Binder
Hi All! I agree this would be a good addition. This was brought up before, either in this list or another OOo mailing list when the use of tabs to differentiate projects was brought up. I was unable to locate the thread this evening. For those of you unfamiliar with the Binder feature, check out the following links: http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/assistance/HA010552691033.aspx http://jdstiles.com/mso2k/binder/about.html Please post the Number and link to the feature request if you decide to create one. I would vote for this. SC On 6/13/05, Craig E Burland [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: One of the most powerful features of Microsoft Office was the Binder. Microsoft recently dropped Binder from it's product suite. It would be a strong addition to Open Office. Craig Burland W.L. Peter, Thanks. However, I cannot find a link where I can do that. I searched the OO website and found links for contributing programming or documentation, not ideas. Can you pass me a link? Would a) put all of the documents in the same folder; b) zipping the folder up; c) Exchanging that zip archive suffice? Would a) put all of the documents in the same folder; b) zipping the folder up; c) Exchanging that zip archive suffice? That't not the same. The smart idea of binder is that it uses only one file that contains everyt part of your project and that can be loaded by the application directly. A zip file must be zipped/unzipped always. I also know binder and I agree that it can be useful. My own favorite idea concerning this was that you could bundle several OOo documents into a common project folder and merge them for printing, kind of a master document that not only can contain text files but also spreadsheets. In the simplest form of course it should just behave like the MSO binder feature. I have no idea wether this feature is useful enough to have a chance for the next release. With our new Embedding API we added to OOo2.0 such an application could be implemented as an external component, f.e. in Java or Python. Anybody interested for Google Summer of code? :-) Best regards, Mathias -- Mathias Bauer - OpenOffice.org Application Framework Project Lead Please reply to the list only, [EMAIL PROTECTED] is a spam sink. - To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
