[ACFUG Discuss] CF 8 application service does not auto start after reboot
Hi again, This is an old problem that still remains unsolved. I have CF 8 installed on my XP pro SP2 laptop. Whenever I reboot, the application service does not auto restart like it should. I experience the same symptoms on our production server (stand alone virtual server on W2003 server). When I manually start the service it starts, however, it still created an error event, but different to the auto start up event. Heres my question; Does this service actually need the starttimeout increased or is this totally some other issue that needs to be addressed? Google has had enough of me, yahoo said to take a break and MSN said, Sorry pal, no answer! -HELP! Hopefully one of you smart people will be able to help me out! Thanks in advance! The problem appears to be the configuration of your McAfee A/V solution. Note the message is re: scanning the file. If the A/V gives up, that may be the reason the startup fails. -dhs Dean H. Google is your friend. It's amazing how many solutions you can find simply be typing an error message into Google. The trouble for many is figuring out what to type into Google. Indead google is our friend, however, I tried almost every variation of the 2 error messages I got from the event log. Nothing substantial with a solution was found. Looks like their ranking is based upon the numbers of lines of code. Sounds like the lower we get on here the more effecient we are at utilizing our lines of code. I've never even heard of tiobe, I'm not too concerned. However, I did note that I could only find one CF book at Borders the other day. CF8 WACK Vol. 2. I guess that either means they don't stock much CF or what they did stock sold out or there is only one definitive CF book or a littany of other reasons. Re: [ACFUG Discuss] CF 8 application service does not auto start after reboot
Dean, I reduced the scan time to 60 seconds on the production server and it seems to have worked. Ill only know once a host server reboot is completed (on a virtual server). My laptop, which I use for dev, remains unresolved. Its always been set to 45 seconds. Any other setting that I should change? Nah, it's based on the oh so scientific method of counting the number of results in search engines: The popular search engines Google, MSN, Yahoo!, and YouTube are used to calculate the ratings. Observe that the TIOBE index is not about the *best*programming language or the language in which *most lines of code* have been written. However, I did note that I could only find one CF book at Borders the other day. CF8 WACK Vol. 2. I guess that either means they don't stock much CF or what they did stock sold out or there is only one definitive CF book or a littany of other reasons. Stats are stats they can be viewed every which way. The big book stores are really uneven from one store to the next in the CS department. The Borders at Brookhaven is just awful. But the one in Buckhead by Phipps is pretty decent, although they reduced it the last time they did a store reorg. The Barnes and Noble at Technology Square isn't bad if you can stomach the Georgia Tech paraphernalia (Go Dawgs, sic 'em, woof woof woof). And although they aren't open late or anything approaching late, the Engineer's Bookstore on Marietta is also pretty good. -- Howard Fore, [EMAIL PROTECTED] Whether you believe you can do a thing or not, you are right. -- Henry Ford - Annual Sponsor FigLeaf Software - http://www.figleaf.com To unsubscribe from this list, manage your profile @ http://www.acfug.org?fa=login.edituserform For more info, see http://www.acfug.org/mailinglists Archive @ http://www.mail-archive.com/discussion%40acfug.org/ List hosted by http://www.fusionlink.com -

[ACFUG Discuss] closing database connections
I've run into a problem with my VPS server at hostmysite. It seems my server gets really low on memory due to database connections that are left open (so I'm told by HMS) and HMS recommended this: -- From HMS support: SQL memory problems like this usually happen because of looping queries, or hanging connections. The best solution is to update your code, adjusting the queries to close the connection to the database once complete. This will ensure that the memory used for the query is then freed. --- OK so when I used to do ASP and VBScript I always closed and destroyed the database connections and objects. However, I didn't even know there was a way to do it with queries in CF. Is this right? Should I somehow be closing database connections? In most cases, these are just cfquery tags used with either cfloop or cfoutput to display the query results. However, there is one area of this site where I used Java inside of cfscript to open a database connection so I am guessing that may be where I should be closing the connection. The code reminds of the way I used to do it with ASP. See example: cfscript classLoader = createObject(java, java.lang.Class); classLoader.forName(sun.jdbc.odbc.JdbcOdbcDriver); dm = createObject(java,java.sql.DriverManager); con = dm.getConnection(jdbc:odbc:DRIVER={SQL Server};Database= application.db_name ;Server= application.dbserver_name ;, application.db_user, application.db_pword); qText = Select * FROM SomeTable; st = con.createStatement(); rs = st.ExecuteQuery(qText); q = createObject(java, coldfusion.sql.QueryTable).init(rs); /cfscript 1. Ok so I am guessing there is a way to close the connection and destory the objects. If so, could someone send me a snippet of code to do that? 2. I'm not sure if closing a database connection is needed when using cfquery tags. If so, I've been missing that part for well over 5 years of cf coding. Ooops!!! Hope that is not the case. -Dusty - Annual Sponsor FigLeaf Software - http://www.figleaf.com To unsubscribe from this list, manage your profile @ http://www.acfug.org?fa=login.edituserform For more info, see http://www.acfug.org/mailinglists Archive @ http://www.mail-archive.com/discussion%40acfug.org/ List hosted by http://www.fusionlink.com -
