Is anyone out there using SharePoint (SP) as their corporate intranet or
client portal? Anyone has success pulling in SP objects into a CF site?
A simple example would be something like enabling a view of a SP
calendar in a CF app.

[ACFUG Discuss] Contractor rates

2008-08-14 Thread Max Immelman
As time goes on I find myself doing less and less CF development. Not
because of technology changes but rather that my role has changed. So
I'm out of touch with developer salaries and contract rates. I'm looking
to hire a couple contractors for 3 months. One .NET/sharepoint (sql) and
one CF (sql), both around 3-5 yrs experience, not senior but not junior.

Here is my question. What would be a competitive rate for each position?

I hope this creates some good conversation.

Re: [ACFUG Discuss] Contractor rates

2008-08-14 Thread Max Immelman
Teddy,

Thanks for your reply. I was not looking for personal contract rates but rather
and industry average. I'm just trying to avoid paying too much while at the
same time being competitive.

Again, thanks for your insight!

Max,
I am not sure this is a good medium for discussing rates for consultants. Most
consultants have either a written or verbal agreement with their consulting
firms that discourage the discussing of their rates.

You may want to target technologists who have been a part of the hiring process
or IT Managers. Once you have been in contact with them, it would be a good
conversation to take offline.

Some may disagree with this, but it is one of those things that professionals
typically do not openly discuss. Perhaps, I am too formal about this compared
to others.

Also, there used to be web sites that I cannot remember that had the average
salary or contract rate based upon industry and experience. The only issue
that I had with those sites as they were extremely generalized and the web
sites did not have the most up to date technology skill listings.

Teddy

[ACFUG Discuss] CF 8 application service does not auto start after reboot

Hi again,

This is an old problem that still remains
unsolved. I have
CF 8 installed on my XP pro SP2 laptop. Whenever I reboot, the
application service
does not auto restart like it should. I experience the same symptoms on
our
production server (stand alone virtual server on W2003 server). When I
manually
start the service it starts, however, it still created an error event,
but different
to the auto start up event.

Heres my question;

Does this service actually need the
starttimeout

addressed?

out! Thanks in advance!

Re: [ACFUG Discuss] Copy and paste screenshot

2007-07-26 Thread Max Immelman
Charlie,

Sorry for taking so long to get back with you. Been travelling.

I'm building a basic app that documents a Near Miss in a hospital setting. A
near miss is an avoided medical error using our enterprise clinical systems.
Part of the project requirements is being able to upload/capture a screenshot
when the near miss occured. The only way I know how to do this is to perform a
traditional file upload. I was asking the group if anyone had come across, for
example, an active-x control or maybe a plugin that could help accelerate this
process. A nurse or physician does not really have time (and most times the
know-how) to capture a screenshot, save it and then upload it.

If anyone does know of a any non-client type solution please let me know.
Thanks!

Max

Max, what do you mean by upload? Do you want a web form for them to post it,
to a CF page? Or do you perhaps just have some need to get screenshots from one
person to another?

I'd want to make sure you (and others) know that there's a simple means to
grab screenshots without software using the PrintScreen button. You can then
paste it into anything that accepts a paste, like an email (which would be one
way to upload a screenshot to someone).

Sorry if that's obvious. :-) Some may be surprised to hear how many people
have never heard of it.:

Lowest price - build it yourself.

It's not that difficult and if you just want a basic system, you can
create

one that meets your specific needs then add on some bells and whistles
later. I found much of the complexity of the off the shelf products were
from an attempt to make a one size fits all, and trying to allow some
degree

of customization. If you are just building it for yourself, then you don't
need all those added functions.

Just my humble comments.

Anyone here on Saturday?

I'm looking for suggestions/recommendations/feedback on CF shopping carts.
I'm currently looking at CFWebStore and AbleCommerce. This is for me, not
a

client - need to get my retail business online!

Of course, I want everything at the lowest cost possible.

Of importance:
- Stability
- Ability to customize pages quickly and easily (particulartly product
display)
- Very flexible product attributes
- Ability to manage all site pages thru a single interface
- Ability to capture CC info without actually processing it

Any feedback is appreciated...

Thanks,
Dave Bellevue

[ACFUG Discuss] Simple Q - binding checkbox in flash forms

2006-10-26 Thread Max Immelman

For those of you that remain in the A-T-L and have
not gone to perish in Vegas please pass on some knowledge.

I'm trying to bind a a checkbox value from a
database(db value: nVarchar: true:false). I'm successful with the
following...

cfformitem
type="script"public function formOnLoad():Void
{setFormElements();}

public function
setFormElements():Void {cfoutput cfif
getEntities.p1_status IS '' OR getEntities.p1_status IS
'NO' p1_status.selected =
false;cfelse p1_status.selected =
true;/cfif
/cfoutput
}/cfformitem

cfinput type="checkbox"
name="p1_status"
value="{(p1_status.selected!=undefined)?p1_status.selected:false}" label="This
page is complete" /

However, this is a two step process. Is there not a
way to bind without the setFormElements function, besides the obvious? Which is..

cfinput type="checkbox"
name="p1_status"checked="#getEntities.status#" label="This page is
complete" /

This method does not account for NULL coming from
the db and errors out.

Max

Re: [ACFUG Discuss] cfhttp and SSL

2006-10-24 Thread Max Immelman

Steven,

I had issues with using a shared cert, but it like you are not sharing a
cert. The prob. i had was that the application variables were not being
passed on when entering a https page. So I had to come up with a work
around. but again, I don't think you are sharing a cert.

No, it doesn't. And that wouldn't be CF but the editor. Perhaps someday
the CFEclipse Plug-in may offer this, but until then, no, you're on your
own
to either tickle the file or use the CF 7 Admin option (as Doug pointed
out)

or run the cfcompile on your own--though it's not file-specific. Doug made
another point which is probably your real answer, and I'm sorry I didn't
think to say it: turn off the save class files option in the Admin. I
bet

your problems will go away.

If you mean a recompile of the CFC itself, one thing to do is to flush
the
template cache. That would force a recompile. Of course, it's one thing
to

flush the whole cache, and another to flush just one template. I don't
think
there's anything in CF (documented) to do either, though perhaps someone
with more experience in CF 7 Admin API or the servicefactory may know of
a

solution. I'd be interested myself. (This is one instance where I did
myself
try to google to find a solution in the recent past and could not.)

Another possibility is to run the command line cfcompile.bat (in the
cfmx/bin directory), though again it can only recompile entire
directories,
not just one file (from my experience and recollection).

I have a web service that is cached on the server(does not show up in

this but, unfortunatley don't have access to it. it would take the
wsdl addy as the working arguement and reset it.

thanks,

Re: [ACFUG Discuss] Recompiling on the fly

2006-10-12 Thread Max Immelman

Thanks Teddy!

The problem is, I make significant changes to my
CFC, then refresh the application to test and I get the same error. I know that
I can't possibly get the same error. This tells me the CFC has not updated (or
recompiled). It's frustration because I restart my cf service everytime to
insure recompile. Again, I have not been doing this a long time. Thanks for you
help.
