"Website" is the best compromise, it's even listed in Duden (http://www
 .duden-suche.de/suche/abstract.php?shortname=fx&artikel_id=1015901)

You have to re-read the ticket. It was opened exactly because "Website"
 should be used.

I prefer web'''site''' over Webauftritt. "Webauftritt" sounds as it comes
 straight out of the markting.

We've been also discussing this ticket on IRC since it's not a clear
matter and basically came to the conclusion summarized by zerok. I'll
commit the patch after looking through the translation.

Comment (by Horst Gutmann ):

The problem with the translation of "Website" and "Webpage" is that there
are no equivalents in German. The whole dilemma started with some people
translating "Website" as "Webseite" eons ago which is simply wrong, yet
"socially" accepted ("Seite" == "page" (en)). In my opinion the only real
solution here is to use "Website" for the whole ... website and "Seite"
for webpages. "Webseite" should not be used anymore unless "Seite" would
lead to a semantic clash within something like a book-application.
Furthermore, the term "Site" should never be used as a shorthand-form for
"Website" in the German translation here because of its ambiguity with the
 "Site" model in django.contrib.sites.

I'm honestly not really a fan of loanwords like "Website" but, I guess, in
this case it's the easiest solution. The problem with the ambiguity in
spoken German remains, though, but this is a problem for a another day ;-)

 Just my 2c

Changes (by mtredinnick):

  * component:  Internationalization => Translations

Comment:

Translations go in their own component. The "internationalisation"
component is for things to provide support for localisation. This is semi-
important because I regularly scan the "translations" component looking
 for things that need committing.

I'm not going to commit this until at least one other German speaker
 confirms it (I'll ping somebody).

I propose some changes for the German translation. I think the word
"Website" (yes, it's in the Duden) can and should be used more generously.
