Server Error can be caused by many issues ranging from database queries to
wrong urls.

Turn debug to true and see what reasons are given .
Are you in production or development?

First thing you need to do is open the excellent Django docs at
djangoproject.com, do the polls app and after try doing a Todo list. Things
will fall in place.

After try implementing your previous projects in Django

Re: can someone help me why my static files is not being rendered?

2023-06-15 Thread ALBERT ASHABA AHEEBWA
According to your settings, the `Python.png` file should be inside `static`
on the same level as `manage.py`.

|---static /
 |-- Python.png
|--manage.py
|--

The file structure of almost that kind. If you're in development and this
is a practice thing, you don't need `whitenoise` just yet.

Re: Criteria to use several apps in one project instead one app

2023-05-29 Thread ALBERT ASHABA AHEEBWA
Hi there,

If you don't read the documentation when initially starting with Django it
gets overwhelming.

So it is recommended to modularize your apps in that your app should do one
thing. That's to say, if you wanted to have user authentication and blog
with ability for users to add comments you could have separate apps for
that logic. Eg, accounts app for user registration and authentication, then
the blog app for the blogs and comments.

Note that the blog app can further be divided into the blog and comments
apps.

Depending on the size of the app, the developer can decide on whether to
create more apps or just do one monolithic app.

Rule of thumb, if the app can stand on it's on, it's better to create than
add to an existing one.

Hope this helps.

Best Regards,

Albert

Ideas for Apps and Softwares.

2023-05-23 Thread ALBERT ASHABA AHEEBWA
Hi there,

I have been learning to program for almost a year now. I have created a few
apps some of which I abandoned at the start, others half way through. None
have been original ideas and maybe that's why I lose interest.

So I am here looking for that one app idea that will keep me up at night.

So if you don't mind me asking, what's that one app that if you could, you
would create? It can be personal or for the public.

With that in mind the best he could do was send you to the documentation.
There was no need to be rude.

If you need any help, show what you have done, then show what you want done

With regards to your question, there are various ways to solve it, forms
were a problem to me till just recently.

So share a link to your repo and you will get the help you need.

Re: Masonry card columns

2023-05-13 Thread ALBERT ASHABA AHEEBWA
This is a simple css issue. You need to change the width of the card.
Making it compact will result in the desired outcome.

If you are using bootstrap use grid instead of flexbox. Set width to w-50.

i.e

<-! Card here -->

Re: Form Page URL Not Found

2023-05-01 Thread ALBERT ASHABA AHEEBWA
Hi Michael,

On the issue, of urls, Django uses some kind of regex expression to know
which view to render. And because it's python, it reads from top - bottom.
So the two urls "pet/..." are colliding. Change one url to confirm the
suspicions.

On your query of when to Use FormView or CreateView, if you need to save
data to the database, always use CreateView. But if all you need is capture
data and do something with it, like send an email, then FormView is for
you.. Or a normal FBV can work too

Hi there,
Yes you need to add {{form}} to your html. I didn't see your models.py
file, but let's assume that's okay too.

If you are going to use cbv(class based views), The upload view should
inherit from the CreateView. Try this amazing resource to learn more,

https://ccbv.co.uk/

And also don't forget to add the form attr enctype='multipart/form-data'
since it's a file upload field.

2023-04-28 Thread ALBERT ASHABA AHEEBWA
This is a wild suggestion, but as someone here mentioned, your vscode might
be pointing to the wrong interpreter.

Check at the bottom bar of your vscode with a .py file open. Next to
{}python you should see what environment you are using.

eg. 3.11.3 64-bit or 3.11.3('.venv':venv)

The latter is what you are looking for. If it's not, click on whatever is
there and on popup, select the appropriate.

Thank you Larry!

As I mentioned before, this only happens when DEBUG = False.

I deployed the same app to pythonanywhere and it worked fine. No errors

So I do believe it is has to do with my nginx.

My problem with it is that only 2 routes are not working fine.

Server Error 500 Nginx when DEBUG=False

2023-01-29 Thread ALBERT ASHABA AHEEBWA
So I was able to successfully host my first ever Django app on linode.
After the excitement had won off, I started testing the routes, everything
was running fine except for two routes.

SERVER ERROR (500)

These two views are sharing a template and I much doubt that is the cause.
Since they are pointing to different routes.

There's nothing in the /var/log/nginx/error.log file that is helpful.

Everything is working as expected when DEBUG=True.

Please help point me in the right direction.

2023-01-01 Thread ALBERT ASHABA AHEEBWA
Hello Everyone,

I have been trying to host my Django app on linode for the last 3 days. I
have tried every tutorial I could find on both google and YouTube. But
nothing seems to work .

The furthest I have gone is 502 BAD GATEWAY nginx...

Can someone point me to a straight forward solution.

Thank you.

Hello, Make sure in your project folder settings.py file has DEBUG=True and
ALLOWED_HOSTS=[].
set debug to true and allowed hosts to empty list.
And ensure no local server is running before you runserver again

2022-08-25 Thread ALBERT ASHABA AHEEBWA
So what happens when you just run $python manage.py? Does it bring up a
list of commands you can run? If not you have to activate your virtual
environment properly if you are using any.
Or path to the virtual environment py script
