Hrmm. Same thing happened again, just a week later to another server.
Down for over 24hrs.

Not a good look.

Nothing specific really, mainly assurances that this will never happen
again. I'm sure if you contact Remi D at WebFaction he would be able
to answer your questions and be open to ideas on how communication can
be improved during outages. He seems like a nice, helpful fellow.

I received a good email From Remi at WF which told me all I needed to
know. The outage was unacceptable but hopefully lessons have been
learned.

A subversion checkout become unusable, but that wasn't a huge deal.
Some photos are not there but overall the backup served it's purpose.

Thanks, the site server is working again now :)

WebFaction warning

2009-11-27 Thread digicase
A warning to anyone using or about to purchase WebFaction hosting. Our
shared server (web44) went down on Thursday and it is only now, 40
hours later that they have been able to restore the server to anything
near working order.

I am sad to report this, as up until now I had complete faith and
trust in them. That has been lost over the past few days. Support were
not transparent, status updates rare and vague.

Furthermore their daily backup of our home folder was corrupted, which
is probably as much as a lesson to me as a bad mark for Webfaction.

All in all a sorry episode for what is supposedly the best place to
host Django sites, according to http://djangofriendly.com/hosts/

Re: Any django users in Malaysia/Singapore

2009-01-29 Thread digicase

Hi, I'm in Singapore.

I'm building a django/satchmo site right now. I have worked on about
ten Django sites in the past, and for a Singapore client in particular
we just completed http://www.asiansecurity.org/

Good to know there are other Django users here!

Cheers,
Arthur
