All, you also may want to check out my new article on the
TR7, What's Inside The Drake TR-7".I have a nice piece
on a fan modification for the radio using a 24DC fan that
works great. You can wire it for TX keyed switching or
continuous. The fan is just like the original FA-7 but
runs very quiet and provides a constant air flow to the
radio when wired for continuous operation. If you really
need the high velocity just use a 12 volt version fan wired
the same way. I did this to both my TR7 and TR5 and its
works great, and the fan noise is hardly noticeable.

Steve -

The original Drake FA-7 was a Comair/Rotron "Sprite" model
SU2C1..

It runs at 1900rpm, producing 20cfm, and a "noise rating" of
26.2dba (VERY quiet!)

You can buy them BRAND NEW, from many electronic supply
houses, such as Digi-Keyfor about $28.00 with the AC
power cord already attached.

The Sunday net is 7238 +/- QRM.? There was a net control there but there were

All, Well today I released another article on the Drake TR7
transceiver. I started writing this article about 6 months
ago, thought it would be a couple of pages long but turned out to be 16
pages. So I hope you will agree there is a lot of information there on the
TR7.

The article, "What's Inside The Drake TR-7 Transceiver", is intended to
help a non-technical person understand what is inside the Drake TR-7(A)
Transceiver, how it works, and discusses simple adjustment and modifications
the end-user
can perform.I start with a basic overview of the inside
of the radio and how the signals flow, and include lots of
pictures.I show each plug-in circuit board with a brief
description of its function or purpose. Towards the end of
the article I go through several simple alignment procedures,
troubleshooting tips, and discuss a few simple
radio modifications to enhance the operation.

If your interested I invite you to take a look. Here is
the link.

http://wb4hfn.com/DRAKE/DrakeArticles/InsideTheTR7/Inside_Th

It's a permanent addition to the WB4HFN.com website and available from the

[drakelist] TR4 IF stage loading

--

I'm trying to interface a software defined outboard IF stage
to my TR4 (1969 vintage). I soldered a 4.7pF disc cap to
pin 6 of V3. The other end of the cap goes to the center
conductor of a RCA cable (looks like RG-174 but I know it
isn't) and the sheild of the cable goes to a nearby chassis
ground terminal. The far end of the cable has a male RCA
plug.

OK, now you know the setup - here's my question:

Can the above setup load down the TR4's IF stage if nothing
else is hooked up to it? My TR4 seems a tad deaf since I
installed the IF tap. I can still hear the -107dbM signal from
my XG-2 but the 50mV test signal no longer produces a full
S9 - more like S8.5 or so.

Did you retune T6?? You effectively hung a capacitor across the primary
of T6, which will detune it somewhat.

If retuning doesn't bring the gain back up to where it was, you can try
coupling instead to the secondary of T6, which is a lower impedance
point and less susceptible to external loading. You may still have to
retune, but I don't think so.

Re: [drakelist] FALL RADIO MEET AND VINTAGE HAMFEST - DAVIDSONVILLE, MD

2007-11-19 Thread k9sqg

John,

Well, let's not take too much for granted and let's be thankful for what we
have.? Going to take my wife in to the cardiologist tomorrow, they didn't have
any appointments so they're fitting us in, and they said "bring your husband"
so I know what that means based on previous experience.?

As a side note, I don't have email capability on evenings or weekends due to
AOL crashing my computer.? It's a long story, hi hi.

In any case, John, I hope you have an enjoyable weekend and that you will have
an enjoyable day and happy memories.

73,

Evan

Hi Evan,

I am sure you will be around for next year and many after that.

I am with you about the auction site. Not all folks tell it like it is about a
piece of gear, but lately I have bought a good bit of equipment and have been
very lucky with what arrived on my doorstep.? I find that the best protection
is to ask a lot of quwations and pay with PayPal which is tied to a credit card.

73,

John
