Re: r200 unstable with TCL enabled

I installed xorg-x11-68.99.16 from http://xorg.freedesktop.org/snapshots/, then
latest Mesa CVS (compiled with make linux-dri-x86) and drm from CVS, now
everything works fast and stable - much better than last stable xorg and Mesa.
I have TCL enabled now.

Sounds close enough to what I'm running here, stable too, and I had frequent
lockups before (6.8.2). I had noticed the lockups would occur less frequently
without TCL. Now it's perfectly stable with or without TCL.

So it is possible to have stable and fast OpenGL with open soruce drivers and
Radeon (I still can't crash it!). But are there binary snapshots for end users
available? I found only old ones. xorg is available only as source and Mesa/drm
only as source from CVS. Will http://dri.freedesktop.org/snapshots/ be updated?

Eventually. I haven't got around to adjusting the snapshot build scripts
to changes in the build process (libGL from Mesa and libdrm via
pkgconfig come to mind). It will be a week before I have time to look
into it (hopefully). You're welcome to beat me to it. ;-) In the
mid-term I intend to build snapshots from the modular tree. But that's a
slightly bigger project.

just like I wrote - from drm CVS (also tried from old DRI snapshot)

I think you also have to replace your Xorg
because 6.8.2 won't take the newer DRI drivers.

I have Xorg from Slackware 10.2, Mesa 6.3.2 compiled with make linux-dri, drm
from CVS and R200_NO_TCL set, it is quite stable, however I was able to lock
system once (OpenGL screensaver was running, I changed virtual desktop in KDE,
then... lock) but only once.

Should I use Xorg from CVS instead? Is there any stable snapshot available?

 Hello.
I installed Slackware 10.2, compiled Linux kernel 2.6.13 and tried some
included OpenGL applications - for example xscreensaver.
I was able to lock Xserver.
So I tried old binary snapshots from dri.sf.net (common and r200) - but
 nothing
 changed.
Then I installed drm from CVS (including libdrm), and compiled new Mesa 6.3.2
with command make linux-dri (I had problems with .S files when using
 linux-dri-x86).
Still I was able to lock Xserver in less than minute, usually few seconds of
 OpenGL screensaver.
Of course each time I was checking glxinfo to make sure that I use different
 versions.
I remember that in the past I was using R200_NO_TCL, I set it, tested OpenGL,
and... now applications are stable, I can't lock my system.
Is it normal that R200 with TCL enabled is so unstable with recent versions of
 drm/Mesa?
Just like I said - I can reproduce lock in few seconds - can I generate any
debug log to send you? How?

PS. Athlon XP 1800, 256MB RAM, all system libraries and tools from Slackware
 10.2 (gcc 3.3.6, latest Xorg), Radeon 9100.

Are you using the radeon.ko and drm.ko modules in CVS, or stayed with the ones
in Slackware ?
I actually own _two_ systems that reliably crash with old snapshots
(FireGL 8800 128MB and Radeon 9100 128MB) but I now have a working version :
1/ Xorg 6.8.99.15 (about 2 months old)
2/ DRM + MESA/DRI, CVS checkout of 4th of August, 2005 (I do not have the
time right now to see if newer snapshots actually work...)
You _have_ to replace your kernel modules with the newer ones (make linux-core)
otherwise the lock is still here. I think you also have to replace your Xorg
because 6.8.2 won't take the newer DRI drivers.

Cheers
