[Dspace-tech] Groupwise Style of the submitted items in a collection

2012-10-24 Thread Umair Kayani
Hi all, Is there a way in jspui pages to style the submitted items in
groupwise style. For e.g. If I submitted 10 items in a collection out of
which 5 are from year 2012 and other five are from year 2011, how can we
group it yearwise. Like following

- 2012

- book1

- book2..

-book5

+ 2011

For reference I am also attaching following link to understand what I want.

No, I did not upgrade Maven and I still use version 3.0. And it works

What version of maven do you use? I am very curious if someone is able to
install 1.6.2 without any troubles (this piece of information can help me a
lot).

I have already googled the link you suggested, however, it doesn't
answer my question why it stops working right now...

P.S. Another person (Lucka) tried it yestarday with the same result...

[Dspace-tech] Input-forms localization in XMLUI

2012-10-24 Thread emilio lorenzo
Hi all,
Dspace 1.8.2 & XMLUI. webui.supported.locales=es, en
I just defined a couple of additional input-forms.xml:
input-forms_es.xml and input_forms_en.xml, but the submission proccess
after the intial-question.step, doesn´t show any localization. Tested
with and without recompilation and build, with no results (it works Ok
in JSPUI)
Is there anything I am missing?
Or perhaps the input-forms localizations doesn´t work with XMLUI? (I
did not find any jira issue about it)

[Dspace-tech] Dspace statistics--where is download information

2012-10-24 Thread Kirti Bodhmage
Hi,

We are on Dspace 1.6.2.

Is there any way of getting download count of all files held in repository ?

I need to extract following information from database.

File name collection name --- author download count/view count

Looking at the database tables , I couldn't figure out where is the
download count.

We got SOLR statistics enabled but that shows statistics for each paper, is
there anyway of collating download information for all the papers in
repository.

Thanks

[Dspace-tech] Collections at the root level

2012-10-24 Thread Àlex Magaz Graça
Hi,

I have some repositories for which the most sensible communities and
collections structure has collections at the root level (i.e. they are
not inside a (sub)community). The problem is DSpace only allows to
create communities at the root level. I usually workaround the problem
by creating a single root community with all the content, but it's not a
very convincing solution.

Is there a reason for this limitation? Does someone know of a better
workaround?

Thanks,

Re: [Dspace-tech] Dspace statistics--where is download information

2012-10-24 Thread helix84
Hi Kirti,

you're right, the download count is only in the Solr index
("statistics" core), not in DB. Additionally, the data about items
(file name, collection name, author) is also in Solr, albeit in a
different core ("search"). Therefore I recommend you to combine these
two sources to get the results you need. It may sound intimidating at
first, but querying Solr is really easy once you grasp the basics. The
sole purpose of Solr is to be queried easily! I've written up some
basic information on Solr in DSpace here:

https://wiki.duraspace.org/display/DSPACE/Solr

There are not many examples yet, but you can derive the specific
things you need by looking at the admin interface, also mentioned
there. If you get it working, make sure to add your use case there as
an example!

PS The only other source where you could find download statistics is log files.

Re: [Dspace-tech] Collections at the root level

2012-10-24 Thread helix84
Hi Àlex,

we're aware of this limitation of DSpace. Unfortunately, it was an
early design decision and currently there are no plans to change it
(it would require major migration effort of all repositories if we
introduced this in a new version).

However, you may achieve what you want using Discovery. Discovery
enables you to make a link of any search query, typically on metadata,
e.g. all items with a given author, all documents by a given
publisher, given page count (range), given published date (range) etc
etc. You can thus create any number of "virtual" collections and
replace the community/collection structure on your homepage with these
links. As an example of a non-metadata query, I created a link that
gives me all items that have bitstreams.

If you have any questions, don't hesitate to follow up.

Yet another simple workaround would be to hide the root community on
the front page (and collections and communities page) and display its
contents (collections) directly instead.

[Dspace-tech] self-registered button & e-persons' password

2012-10-24 Thread Vera Kriezi
Dear all,

I am trying to create e-persons to submit items to a collection and assign
them to a group with submission priviledges.
The problem is that I can not find a way to set a password (or even to say:
I forgot the password, so the user should first register in order to set
his own password, as instructed). I realised that DSPACE does not have the
option to set passwords for users/epersons for security reasons.
But, from the jspui there is no option for users to self-register. Is there
any way to set this from dspace.cfg ?

Hi Vera,

although I'm not completely familiar with the JSPUI specifics, I
know there's a registration page. Try entering
http://www.yourdspace.com/register, it should show up. You can
register the users there (this is the same page they would use to
register themselves) with their email addresses and they will receive
an email telling them how they can set a password.

I'm not completely sure, but I think they're in the database as users
even before they set the password, so you should be able to assign
them to a group. Even if not, you can wait for their registration
notification to be sent to your email (registration.notify =
yourem...@example.com) and do it then.

Re: [Dspace-tech] self-registered button & e-persons' password

2012-10-24 Thread Vera Kriezi
Hi Helix,
thanks for the answer.
I tried to access mydspace/register page and it is working. When I put the
email address the system says that:

Already Registered

Our records show that you've already registered with DSpace and have an
active account with us.

You can set a new password if youve forgotten
it
.

So, the /forgot page appears again. If I press I forgot my password button
then I got this message:

Certificate Required

The configuration of this DSpace site means that you need a valid Web
certificate to log in.

That means that the email address you put into the registration form
already has a DSpace account. In that case
1) you shouldn't change the password of this user
2) you should be able to just assign him to a group

> The configuration of this DSpace site means that you need a valid Web

Hmm, it seems like you're using the X509Authentication authentication
method (client certificates). That means that the user with the email
you specified is not logging in using a password, but a personal
certificate installed in your web browser. I don't have experience
with those, but as I wrote before, it shouldn't be necessary because
the user already exists.

Well, the message seems to come from Solr alright, although I wasn't
able to reproduce it.

Yes, Discovery is officially in DSpace since 1.7, before that it has
been available as an addon.
So I didn't consider any previous version, but the basics must be
similiar. The schema might have changed, though. So like I said, just
go to the admin interface. You'll see a list of admin interfaces for
each of the cores if you go to:

http://localhost:8080/solr/

Which cores can you see there?

When you open the admin interface, go to "schema browser".

> Is there any way to query SOLR in 1.6.2 ?

Ah, you didn't say you had 1.6.2. There have surely been many changes
between 1.6, 1.7 and 1.8, so anything's possible. I actually wasn't
sure if there was a "search" core before 1.7. I know there was
"statistics". If there really wasn't "search", you'll have to get that
data using SQL.

Ugh... Use a your gmail account's SMTP server only as a last resort.

The proper way is to ask about your network administrator about SMTP
server address and settings. It's the same thing as you set up in your
email client.

[Dspace-tech] mets sip profile ingest

2012-10-24 Thread Nicolas Franck
Hi there,

I'm trying to use a METS document to ingest a SIP package
to DSpace. But I'm not sure how the additionals files should
be delivered.

From what I can read here..

https://wiki.duraspace.org/display/DSPACE/PackagerPlugins#PackagerPlugins-Whatisapackage?

it can be done by creating a zip-file. If I understand correctly,
one should add the mets-document to the zip, along with
the files? Is there a convention for naming the mets-document
so the ingester can easily find it (e.g. 'mets.xml' at top level)?

Thanks in advance,

Nicolas

Hi Nicolas,

you should be able to find the details you're looking for here:

https://wiki.duraspace.org/display/DSDOC18/Importing+and+Exporting+Items+via+Simple+Archive+Format

and other related information here:

https://wiki.duraspace.org/display/DSDOC18/Importing+and+Exporting+Content+via+Packages
https://wiki.duraspace.org/display/DSPACE/DSpaceMETSSIPProfile

You can also export (disseminate) an existing item from DSpace in the
format you require and take a look at it.

[Dspace-tech] Item batch import - replace problem

2012-10-24 Thread Ying Jin
Hi All,

We use DSpace batch import a lot and sometimes have to replace the
items to fix the metadata or content issues. However, we found the
replacement in itemimport is actually deleting the old item, adding a
new one and then having the old handles back to the item. It generates
several problems. First, it will delete all relationships, for
example, if the item is mapped to another collection, the mapping will
be gone after replacement. Also, when deleting the item, the item's
internal ID changed and it losts its connection with statistical
history. Some of our statistics will show replaced items internal ID
number since the ID changed and it can't match the item title.

The DSpace 3.0 is releasing next month and we would like to know if it
is possible to have the problem fixed in the new release.

Thanks,
Ying @ Rice University

[Dspace-tech] Batch update of dc.date.issued field

2012-10-24 Thread Calloni, Rodrigo
Hello,

We are running DSpace 1.6.2 XMLUI.

When I exported my collections I found several dc.date.issued fields with a
date format that contains the date plus the hour, minutes and seconds.

I found a way to edit the CSV file to remove the unnecessary
hour:minutes:seconds and now I would like to know how I can import the csv back
to batch update the records.

Is there a command I can run in the prompt to achieve this? Is it possible that
the prompt-command will only be effective to update the dc.date.issued field
(leaving all the others as is)?

Thanks in advance
Rodrigo

XMLUI comes with Google Analytics support out of the box. All you should
have to do is to set your Google Analytics key in dspace.cfg. You don't
say what version of DSpace you're using; the documentation for DSpace
1.8.2 is here
https://wiki.duraspace.org/display/DSDOC18/XMLUI+Configuration+and+Customization#XMLUIConfigurationandCustomization-ManakinConfigurationPropertyKeys
(look for the xmlui.google.analytics.key property).

Hi Ying,

We also have interest in this. I recently checked out Claire's code on github
with the intent of analyzing what it would take to port it over to the
xmlui—something I've been meaning to get back to.

If you (and hopefully others on this list) would be interested in
collaborating, we probably would too. I doubt, however, that we have the
resources to go at it alone.

Re: [Dspace-tech] Google Analytics Statistics within DSpace on XMLUI?

2012-10-24 Thread helix84
Hi all,

if you want to collaborate on this, it would be best to create an
issue (or multiple issues) in Jira describing what needs to be done
and who's doing it. It will prevent duplication of work and allow
everyone to check the status of such work. It's also desirable to link
to code on GitHub from the issue(s).

You may also want to coordinate with Peter Dietz (should be on this
list), who has developed another statistics implementation (Elastic
search) in addition to Solr statistics (Mark Diggory will want to have
a say in that, too). It may turn out that there's a need for a
framework supporting different statistics implementations/backends
(Solr, Elastic, Analytics, ...), while allowing to use the same
presentation elements (like graphs) with any of them.

Hi Rodrigo,

sure you can import it back. Take a look at:
https://wiki.duraspace.org/display/DSDOC18/Batch+Metadata+Editing

You can import it either from command line or from the web interface
(but the web interface has a configurable limit of rows that can be
imported at once).

You can safely remove all metadata columns and leave only the one you
want to change. However, the "id" column must stay, and possibly some
others (collection, action), I haven't tried recently.

Re: [Dspace-tech] Item batch import - replace problem

2012-10-24 Thread helix84
Hi Ying Jin,

if you're reporting a problem, it should be done in our Jira [1].
Otherwise it will easily be forgotten here in the mailing list.

Your description of the problem is pretty good, but you could also
offer some suggestions on how you think the problem should be fixed
(e.g. introduce a new switch similiar to --replace, that will only
update metadata).

It's also possible that this behavior is by design and your issue
would be closed, but at least you'd learn why it's implemented like
that.

Moreover, I suggest you to use the Batch Metadata Editor [2] for
metadata-only changes. It doesn't have this problem and is very easy
to use.

Hi Ying:

There is a companion to ItemImport called ItemUpdate that seems to match your
use-case better.

See:

If memory serves, it has been available since 1.6 or so

Hope this helps,

Re: [Dspace-tech] Google Analytics Statistics within DSpace on XMLUI?

2012-10-24 Thread Ingram, William A
This is good. I have not had a chance to play around with Elastic Search,
so I will definitely look into that. We actually have Mark's Solr stats
running now. What it lacks‹really, what they all lack‹is a sure-fire way
making only counting real users.

If you are anything like us, then you know most of your traffic is robots.
You obviously don't want them counted in your stats. The blacklist
approach does not work; it doesn't come close, unless you have a full time
person working to keep the list up to date.

The Google Analytics approach is better, but it comes with its own set of
problems. Like, links from Google have to go to the item page, not
directly to the PDF, in order to be counted.

A third idea I've been kicking around is to augment the current system
with ping-back, so only the downloads and page visits that respond to the
ping back are counted. That would probably take the least work to
implement, but it could have issues as well.

This is going a bit long, but let me add that I am surprised that this is
not a bigger concern within the community. Accurate statistics are key to
measuring an article's impact, and the impact of the repository itself. It
definitely influences buy-in: both faculty participation and institutional
support.

Anyway, thanks for the input. I wonder, does anyone else have any insight
into gathering accurate statistics?

Cheers,
Bill
