You can't easily do it using the template you used, because it's recursive.
You couldn't do an xsl:if on the top and the bottom with the opening and
closing tag, because that would violate the xml tag closing requirement.

You could do this, but of course that looks ugly:

So instead, I'd choose to do it simply by defining a more specific template
with a higher priority:

Also, some unsolicited advice. Don't do all the imports of the copied
template. This way you wouldn't get any updates to the Mirage theme during
the next upgrade. Instead, to this:

Then delete mytheme/lib/xsl. You still have to
have mytheme/images, mytheme/lib/css and mytheme/lib/js copied in,
unfortunately.

[Dspace-tech] Browse for Author with Umlauts

2012-12-11 Thread Joachim Bingel

Hi,

our site just moved to DSpace 3.0 and an error re-occurs which had been
solved in 1.8.2: When browsing for an author with a non-ASCII name (e.g.
Müller), DSpace displays "Browse by author M üller" and no items for
the author are found.

This very question has been asked before (
http://osdir.com/ml/db.dspace.user/2008-01/msg00131.html), and I
followed the instructions in the answer to alter Tomcat's server.xml,
still this had no effect (the link in the answer didn't get me anywhere
sensible though). Is there anything to do on the DSpace end? When
clicking on the author's name (which is displayed fine in the author
list), the URL in the browser also contains the correct spelling of the
name.

Thanks,
Joachim

Hi Brian,

can you send the metadata file zipped, in order to prevent mail servers
from attempting any conversions? I can verify whether that part of the text
file is really in UTF-8. It's possible that the file or it's part is in
UTF-16.

Hi Joachim,

what method do you use to make DSpace accessible on port 80? Make sure
that you declare the URIEncoding on all conectors that you use, e.g.
if you're connecting to apache via AJP, you need to declare it on the
AJP connector, too.

I can confirm that the above method works in both 1.8 and 3.0.

This is a complex topic, well descibed here:

https://wiki.duraspace.org/display/DSPACE/DspaceOnStandardPorts

Basically you don't want to run Tomcat as root, so you can't bind on
port 80. Unless you use authbind, the very last method.

How do you currently make DSpace accessible on port 80?

[Dspace-tech] Do not remove certain metadata (qualifier = extent) when using migrate (- m) in Item Export (v 1.6.2)

2012-12-11 Thread cotanio

Hi all,

I am new to this mailing list and this is my first post. I'm trying to
export a series of collections of a DSpace installation to another. For this
I am using the Item Importer and Exporter via Simple Archive Format. For
export, the first thing I do is use command line:

dspace export -t COLLECTION -i [handle] -d [path collection] -n 1 -m

Using -m (migrate) remove metadata as uri, provenance, etc, and then use the
metadata import and that these are not duplicated. However there is one
metadata it is removed, it is extent and I do not want it removed because of
the items of the collections that I want to export a repository, the
metadata must be and then import it into the other DSpace. The question is:

Is there any way to prevent this metadata (extent, but it could be another
one) is removed using -m? Should we modify the class ItemExport?

Thanks to all.

I use method 2a -- at least partly, only the changes described on the
Wiki page regarding ROOT -> xmlui redirect are set, the ones regarding
the ssl.conf or proxy_ajp.conf are NOT. So to be honest, I don't
actually know why I can access the XMLUI on port 80, I am not the one
who installed this in the first place. There's no ProxyPass in the
httpd.conf either. No authbind configured either... I'm puzzled.

So you're running Apache HTTPD. There are 3 options I can think of that you
may be running:
1) AJP
2) mod_jk
3) plain HTTP reverse proxy

Re: [Dspace-tech] reinstating via batch

2012-12-11 Thread Jose Blanco
This is the setting I have now:

event.dispatcher.default.consumers = search, browse, discovery,
eperson, harvester

# The noindex dispatcher will not create search or browse indexs
(usefull for batch item imports)
event.dispatcher.noindex.class = org.dspace.event.BasicDispatcher
event.dispatcher.noindex.consumers = eperson

I'm wondering if I need to add discovery to

event.dispatcher.noindex.consumers

But how will the item get indexed in solr for discovery?

Re: [Dspace-tech] reinstating via batch

2012-12-11 Thread Jose Blanco
Let me give you the details you need to help me with this.

This is what I run:

>From /bin I run this:

BINDIR=`dirname $0`
$BINDIR/dsrun_160 org.dspace.administer.ReleaseRestricted blan...@umich.edu

And dsrun_160 is the dsrun from version 1.6, I have not added this to
the launcher mechanism, but I have been doing this successfully
forever, but now that we are using discovery, I get the error I
mentioned earlier. The work around is that I can remove discovery
from the dspace.cfg file and update bin, and then run my script, and I
that seems to work, but I was not sure if discovery needed to know
that the item was reinstated and update it's index or not. BTW, how
does the discovery index get updated. I know the lucene index is
updated when filter-media is run, but what about discovery.

Hope this info makes my situation more clear.

Thank you!
Jose

Re: [Dspace-tech] Do not remove certain metadata (qualifier = extent) when using migrate (- m) in Item Export (v 1.6.2)

2012-12-11 Thread helix84
Hi Cotanio,

I wasn't able to reproduce your problem. In DSpace 3.0, I added the
dc.extent metadata field. In an item, I added values for this field,
both without a language and with language codes. When exporting with
the -m flag, all dc.extent fields are still in dublin_core.xml. The
only difference between an item exported without and with the -m flag
are the following missing fields: date.accessioned, date.available,
identifier.uri, description.provenance. I also verifies that when you
use a separate schema (local.extent instead of dc.extent), it's still
exported, albeit in a separate file metadata_local.xml.

Can you provide some more specifics of your setup?

Is there a particular reason why you don't use this?
[dspace]/bin/dspace dsrun org.dspace.administer.ReleaseRestricted
blan...@umich.edu

I can imagine that the old launcher knows nothing about DSpace kernel.

No, Solr index isn't updated after filter-media finishes. You still
need to run update-discovery-index. I'm not sure how to do that
programatically, off the top of my head. But check the launcher script
for update-discovery-index (hint, hint).

Please, always CC dspace-tech when replying.

The AIP functionality has been available only since DSpace 1.7. You can either
1) export the database and upgrade the schema for each version
(including those you're skipping), which is essentially what the
upgrading steps describe; or
2) you can export the repository via the Simple Archive Format and
reimport it in the new one.

XmlWorkflow has been available since 1.8 and is optional (not enabled
by default). There also was a problem when using it with Oracle, so
watch out for that if you're on Oracle.

[Dspace-tech] Linking to a bookmarked page in a PDF stored in DSpace

2012-12-11 Thread George S Kozak
Hi...

I was asked if it would be possible for someone to link directly into a
bookmarked page in a PDF that is stored in DSpace. Before I say "no", I just
wanted to check to see if anyone has any ideas about this.
To be clear, what the user wants is for me to give him/her a URL that will take
him/her directly into a specific bookmarked page in the PDF that is stored in
DSpace.
BTW: I am using DSpace 1.8.2 and JSPUI interface (working on bringing XMLUI
interface up)

You could store a small HTML file that had the link in it. It could look
something like this:

http://yourdspace.com/xmlui/bitstream/handle/123456789/1234/yourfile.pdf#page=4
">

When a person clicked on the link to this file, it would take you to page 4
of the pdf.

Just an idea.

Mark, why the extra indirection? The link is all that's needed.

It may not work with other plugins, but it won't break anything.

Like I said, it's the Acrobat plugin's business, it doesn't matter
which browser you're using. It's just that Chrome has a PDF-viewer
built-in, that's why I mentioned it separately. And of course, you
can't control what your visitors have installed, that's why I
mentioned it won't hurt those who won't benefit from it.

So which browser plugin are you using?

You can store a link in metadata. Or you can create it dynamically,
depending on where you get the information about the page that's
wanted.

I didn't look closely, but I think the page mentioned that it works
only in Acrobat 7+. Could it be that you're forced to use an ancient,
insecure plugin?

BTW I filed this idea into Jira, in case anyone is feeling extra creative:

Unrelated to your question, I'm just curious why aren't you using an
EmbargoLifter class to "Release items that have been embargoed"?

We had implemented embargo here before that functionality came out,
and liked our approach to embargo better, can't quite remember now
what the differences were though.

[Dspace-tech] xslt question

2012-12-11 Thread Jose Blanco
I don't know why I can't seem to get a handle on xslt, so here goes a
simple question. In the section that displays "Recent Submissions", I
want to overwrite the head and add an RSS link to, it so I did this,
but it's still displaying the header ( now I have two). How can I
completely overwrite what is in the dri/head?:

Never mind. I got it, just remove the apply-template. I have trapped

Thanks! Jose

I think this was meant to be mod_proxy_ajp, since mod_jk also uses AJP
on the wire. They just come from different projects: HTTPD provides
mod_proxy_ajp and Tomcat provides mod_jk.

Exactly. Nice to see you managed to get along :)

Just two minor things I noticed:

You can simply write this as

You don't have to use a variable in this case. That was necessary when you
were storing a value you got in DRI and using it while processing DIM. In
this case you're in DRI all the time, so you can just write:
