Nobody can help you with that over email. If the hard drive was damaged, you should turn to a specialized data recovery company. If the hard drive wasn't damaged, you'll probably be able just to put it to a new machine and it should work as before (depending on which OS you were using). Once you have all or some data back, we can help you rebuild your DSpace. Let us know what files and how much of them you've been able to recover. Hello Aiman, This Internal System Error message is just a generic message. To track down the cause of the error, you'll want to look at your dspace log files for any errors noted there (in case of a stack trace send it up to and including any Caused by lines). We've written a Troubleshoot an error guide to help you figure out what to look for: https://wiki.duraspace.org/display/DSPACE/Troubleshoot+an+error Once you locate the error message, if you cannot figure out its meaning, you are welcome to send it off to this dspace-tech list. Some files were actually recovered from the server, but we cannot access them. So is it possible to reinstall dspace afresh and access these files? Please, do not write directly to me, write to dspace-tech, I'll reply there. That depends on what particular files were salvaged. Did you recover them with file names and directory structure? What does the structure look like (e.g. only half of the assetstore isn't a problem as long as you have the complete database)? Most importantly, did you recover the database? Do you have, perhaps an older export in SQL format (that would be easiest to work with)? [Dspace-tech] End of Life (EOL) Notice for DSpace 1.7.x and below.
All, Per our DSpace Software Support Policy [1], DSpace versions 1.7.x and below are all considered end of life. With the recent release of DSpace 4.0 [2], our DSpace Committer Team will ONLY be providing security updates, bug fixes and active support for DSpace 4.x, 3.x and 1.8.x. In other words, we only support the last three major releases (which results in a three year support period for any particular DSpace release). What does this mean? * The DSpace Committers Team HIGHLY RECOMMENDS that everyone upgrade to DSpace 4.x, 3.x or 1.8.x as soon as you can. * DSpace versions 1.7.x and below will NOT receive any further public security patches or bug fix releases. * You are still welcome to ask questions on mailing lists regarding DSpace 1.7.x or below. However, as those versions are considered out of support, the extent to which we can resolve your issues may be limited. We obviously will still do our best to be helpful, as we take great pride in that. * Recent versions of DSpace will be supported based on the following EOL schedule. So, we recommend planning your future upgrades appropriately. * DSpace 1.8.x - Supported until January 1, 2015 * DSpace 3.x - Supported until January 1, 2016 * DSpace 4.x - Supported until January 1, 2017 Please feel free to let us know if you have any questions or concerns. [Dspace-tech] build.properties not reflected in dspace.cfg
Hi all, I'm trying out the Dspace 3.2 installation on a Windows machine, and am using build.properties as instructed in the manual. It turns out that the settings from build.properties are not copied to [dspace-source]/dspace/config/dspace.cfg as mentioned in the PDF manual (pg 50), but only to the file in the target directory[dspace-source]/dspace/target/dspace-[version]-build/dspace.cfg Consequently, when I performed an update, the incorrect settings were used, because [dspace-source]/dspace/config/dspace.cfg was not set correctly. best wishes, Francis Deze e-mail is uitsluitend bestemd voor de geadresseerde(n). Re: [Dspace-tech] build.properties not reflected in dspace.cfg
Hi Francis, thanks for the report. Normally, what should happen is that: - maven fills out your dspace.cfg based on the build.properties values and places it indeed, as you mention, in the target directory - the ant update command that reads the build.xml in the root of your target folder should take care of placing the new dspace.cfg file in your webapps folder So by the sound of your report, it looks like the maven build executed correctly, but that there may be something wrong with your ant update. To get to the bottom of this, would it be possible to attach the output of your mvn and ant update commands? cheers, Bram -- [image: logo] *Bram Luyten* +1 202 684 6365 *2888 Loker Avenue East, Suite 315, Carlsbad, CA. 92010* *Esperantolaan 4, Heverlee 3001, Belgium* www.atmire.comhttp://atmire.com/website/?q=servicesutm_source=emailfooterutm_medium=emailutm_campaign=braml On Thu, Jan 9, 2014 at 5:17 PM, Brouns, Francis francis.bro...@ou.nlwrote: Hi all, I'm trying out the Dspace 3.2 installation on a Windows machine, and am using build.properties as instructed in the manual. [Dspace-tech] Question about update-discovery-index -r
I have a question about the following option in update-discovery-index: -r item handle remove an Item, Collection or Community from index based on its handle On two occasions, I have wanted to force the re-indexing of a specific collection/community (1) After customizing the facets for a specific collection (2) After moving a collection from one community to another If I run this command, the log file indicates that my item has been removed, but I am unable to detect an impact caused by running this option. Looking at IndexClient.java and SolrServiceImpl.java I notice that the change is not committed in SOLR after it is made. On both of these occasions, I had to force the re-index of my entire repository (update-discovery-index -f). Is it possible to accomplish what I am trying to achieve without rebuilding the entire index? I am running DSpace 3.1. [Dspace-tech] Configuring Shibboleth for DSpace 4
Hello All, I am trying to configure Authentication in DSpace 4 and not sure how to proceed. The scenario I am trying to implement is to have two ways to authenticate users to the DSpace site. 1) If a staff/student at my university wishes to login then they click on a link that routes them to the university authentication page. After they are successfully authenticated, they are returned to DSpace site to access resources based on their access rights. My university uses Shibboleth. I am just not sure how to link it to DSpace though. 2) For all other users it would be the default password-based authentication. Is it possible to do this? Any pointers would be appreciated. I have gone through the documentation but I am not sure where to start. I have addded org.dspace.authenticate.ShibAuthentication to authentication.cfg. Thanks in advance for your help. Re: [Dspace-tech] Configuring Shibboleth for DSpace 4
One way you might consider is to use Apache redirects. In the httpd.conf the DSpace address may redirect to the university's authentication service. I don't know anything about how Shibboleth works however I assume the authentication page has a list of applications or URLs that it then runs for the user and may then return the user to the real DSpace URL. Sounds like a job for your friendly neighborhood system administrator. It sounds to me as though you want a user at an unapproved address to receive either an ICMP connection refusal or no response at all. You may be able to do that using firewall rules. That is beyond the scope of DSpace. You could get Tomcat to refuse to route the request using a Tomcat host address filter or valve. Again that is outside of DSpace. DSpace IP authentication adds user group memberships to sessions originating at specified IP addresses. You can use that group membership to grant or refuse access to specific assets stored in DSpace, but not to DSpace itself. -- Mark H.
