[Dspace-tech] Submissions page on xmlui

2012-01-22 Thread Jennifer Whalan
This is for Dspace 1.8.1, with xmlui, using a modified version of the Reference
theme.

Currently when you access the submissions page (/submission), the order of
tables is:

Unfinished submissions
Archived submissions
Tasks you own
Tasks in the pool
Submissions being reviewed.

I was wondering if it is possible to change this order, as we would like
archived submissions at the bottom of the page, due to some long lists for some
of our users. Previously I had done this in
org.dspace.app.xmlui.aspect.submissions.Submissions, but in 1.8 it seems to
have been split between Submissions and Workflow (or xmlWorkflow, but we're not
using that at the moment). I thought I was pretty okay with Java but I'm not
quite sure how it is done in this case. I couldn't find any classes that were
calling those classes, and it sort of looks like the classes are getting
themselves added, so I'm not sure how the order is decided. If anyone has any
suggestions, please let me know.

Thanks
Jennifer

[Dspace-tech] Ampersands in discovery facets

2012-01-19 Thread Jennifer Whalan
This is related to https://jira.duraspace.org/browse/DS-910, which I think was
misunderstood slightly. We have just upgraded our dev server from 1.7.2 to
1.8.1, though this problem was happening previously as well.

Our dev server is at: http://dspacedev.nt.gov.au/. On the front page, under the
subject facets, there is buildings, structures establishments as a subject.
The url it links to is
http://dspacedev.nt.gov.au/discover?fq=subject_filter:buildings,\%20structures\%20\\%20establishments\|\|\|buildings,\%20structures\%20\\%20establishments,
 but when you go there, it seems to ignore the ampersand and only filters for
buildings, structures

Is it possible to get any assistance with this.

Thanks

[Dspace-tech] Issue with overwrite and ant

2012-01-19 Thread Jennifer Whalan
We have just updated our dev 1.7.2 version of dspace to 1.8.1. Previously when
I would run ant, I would use the -Doverwrite=true, so I was glad when I saw
that it would be made default. However when running, it acts as if it was
-Doverwrite=false, adding .new to the prefix and not overwriting the old
configs. Even if I use -Doverwrite=true, it still treats it as false.

We are running Apache Ant version 1.7.0, so I don't know if its possibly a
version problem, but has anyone else come across this issue?

Tim,

It turns out that I didn't actually need to do even that much. I had to shut

stopped.

Sigh technology~

Hi Jennifer,

I've never actually seen that error before either. But, a little bit of
Google searching seems to imply that somehow your XMLUI/Cocoon Cache has
been corrupted (not sure what the cause could have been though).

http://web.archiveorange.com/archive/v/fTi8LIEB3AxnszySzs8E

The solution they give is to actually remove your Cocoon Cache
altogether and restart the web application.

To clear you XMLUI/Cocoon Cache in DSpace, you'd do the following:
(1) Stop Tomcat

(2) Go into Tomcat's 'work' directory, and look for a folder named
xmlui (or whatever the name of your XMLUI webapp folder is, if you
renamed it). It likely should be at a path similar to:
[tomcat]/work/Catalina/localhost/xmlui/

(This path may be slightly different based on how your Tomcat is
configured locally)

(3) Inside that xmlui folder, you'll find a cache-dir folder. This
folder contains the Cocoon Cache (you'll see files named
'cocoon-ehcache.*' in that folder). Delete that entire folder and all
its contents.

(4) Now, restart Tomcat. As XMLUI/Cocoon starts back up, it will
recreate its cache automatically.

I've been looking around on the web to see if there's any easier way to
do this (without having to reboot Tomcat), but it doesn't seem like
there is.

Good luck. Let us know if this resolves the problems or not.

Well, starting to feel rather defeated.

At http://dspacedev.nt.gov.au/, ended up doing a complete vanilla install,
without any of our customisations (except for the dspace.cfg). Have also
deleted the cocoon cache. But as you can see, the home page still ends up as
the Community List.

Does anyone have any other suggestions, or noticed this on a vanilla install?
I'm not sure what other things could be cached somewhere that could be causing
this sort of behaviour.

Just to any who are interested.

We have ended up solving this issue, by modifying SolrServiceImpl.java, so that
if it encounters any dates with questions marks, it replaces with a zero, if it
is located in the first four characters, or ignores it if it is not.

Subject: Re: [Dspace-tech] Dates with questions marks in Discovery

Hi Jennifer,

are you still confronted with this problem or have you found a workaround?
the short answer, is that these date notations with question marks are not
supported in DSpace.

It might be possible that our technical guys can develop a custom workaround.
In order to assess whether this is possible, could you describe the different
cases of this question mark use?

194? to indicate 1940-1950
19?? to indicate 1900-2000
1942? - what does this actually indicate?

I think it would be possible to get DSpace to index another value in SOLR (for
discovery) than the one in the metadata. so for 194? you would actually index
1940, but clicking through to the item page would still show 194?

Another way to tackle it would be to get completely rid of your question marks
(but maybe losing information when doing so). Our metadata quality module can
search for values with specific occurences then perform batch updates.

with kindest regards,

Bram Luyten

Am hoping that our problem is not an isolated incident, as to my knowledge this
is fairly common in cataloguing.

We are currently testing 1.7.1 on our development server, and since we did a
large jump from 1.5.2 to 1.7.1, this is the first opportunity we have to look
at Discovery.

After a few stumbles to set solr up correctly, the indexer is running and all
appears to be working perfectly. The only problem we have is for some dates.

Our repository has a rule that any unsure dates can use question marks to pad
them out to the 4 digits required for a year. Eg. 194?, or 19??, or even
occasionally 1942?, though I realise this is not exactly correct, being 5
digits long, and these sort of dates actually display properly.

For dates like 194? or 19?? however, Discovery appears to strip the question
marks completely, which means that we are left with a facet that looks like:

 *
Date Issued

 *   2000 - 2009
(3517)http://dspacedev.nt.gov.au/discover?fq=dc.date.issued.year:[2000%20TO%202009]
 *   2 - 999
(367)http://dspacedev.nt.gov.au/discover?fq=dc.date.issued.year:[2%20TO%20999]
 *   1000 - 1999
(951)http://dspacedev.nt.gov.au/discover?fq=dc.date.issued.year:[1000%20TO%201999]

Is it possible to get these sort of dates at least shown in their proper
ranges, so that 194? would show in the 1000 - 1999 range, and in the 1940 -
1949 range, if you drill down? I had a quick look at SolrServiceImpl.java , but
am not sure how I could edit it to change this, or even if this might be at all
possible.

If anyone has any suggestions, would be most grateful.

Thanks
Jennifer

I'm assuming that the all_ac field is the one that is causing the issues, since
it has fields in there that are not part of the above config setting. I suppose
I could just ignore this field using

   field name=all_ac type=ignored multiValued=true/
like how I ignored other fields?

I have a title_ac, and I know that I get author_ac (this record just doesn't
have any), but for some reason my subject and coverage fields don't get _ac
fields, so I assume that if I did ignore the all_ac, I wouldn't not get a
autocomplete for them?

Thanks

Dear Jennifer,

The dropdown suggestions only show words that appear in one of the configured

{dspace.dir}/config/dspace-solr-search.cfg file so I would suggest looking
there to ensure that none of the non indexed fields appear

[Dspace-tech] Discovery and fields with ampersands

2011-05-24 Thread Jennifer Whalan
Not sure if this is a bug or something is weird with my configuration.

One of the subjects we use for our photos is buildings, structures
establishments (Australian Pictorial Thesaurus). Discovery cuts off at the
ampersand however, so that it ends up showing records with buildings,
structures, which we do not have any. The url ends up as:

http://dspacedev.nt.gov.au/handle/10070/4/discover?fq=subject_filter:buildings,\%20structures\%20\\%20establishments\|\|\|buildings,\%20structures\%20\\%20establishments

The browse url works fine:
http://dspacedev.nt.gov.au/handle/10070/4/browse?value=buildings%2C+structures+%26+establishmentstype=subject

And the data in the solr database itself is correct (though it uses amp;,
which I assume is normal since it is xml).

Has anyone encountered this, or have any idea as to the problem?

Thanks
Jennifer

[Dspace-tech] Discovery and item facets

2011-05-24 Thread Jennifer Whalan
Weird issue, which may not matter much.

Just for testing purposes, I turned on the facets for items. From this I
noticed that on item pages it doubles up the facets (a good example is
http://dspacedev.nt.gov.au/handle/10070/35114). It is different from the facets
that duplicated with all lower case, which we had before, but is now fixed.
This only happens on item pages, where it shows two exact same entries for each
term. This doesn't happen on any the other facets (search, community,
collection). Since we will be turning off item facets eventually, as we will
not have them on our production site, I am not concerned with a fix, but
thought I should report, in case no one else has had this problem.

Hi Jennifer,

See:

The error message can be ignored. There is a temporary patch with that issue
to remove the error message, and a final fix will be included in the upcoming
1.7.2 release.

Re: [Dspace-tech] Discovery and metadata.hide option in 1.7.1

2011-05-02 Thread Jennifer Whalan
Bram,

Unfortunately, we had no luck with the following. After adding the fields to
the schema.xml and deleting the index and reindexing, we found that they still
were appearing in the dropdown suggestions. I've included what we added below,
and the options around it as well, to show the general location we added it. I
had quick read through the schema.xml documentation on the apache site as well,
and so I can understand why it is supposed to work. My only guess would be that
if the order that things are added to the schema.xml is important, that it is
in the wrong place.

Thanks
Jennifer

Dear Jennifer,

recently, one of our developers responded to your question on the DSpace
mailing list. As @mire originally developed Mirage Discovery for DSpace 1.7,
I would be very interested to learn if the given advice has helped you to
resolve your issue.

Furthermore, if you experience any other issue with Discovery and Mirage, we
can always take a look at it for resolving in one of the upcoming releases of
DSpace. Likewise, if you would have any challenging migration, upgrade or
customization tasks, I'd be happy to investigate whether our professional
services could apply in your context.

On Thu, Apr 14, 2011 at 3:43 PM, Kevin Van de veldewrote:
Hi Jennifer,

The disallowing of indexing certain fields in discovery has not yet been
implemented. But if you want you can do this yourself by altering a single file.
The file that needs to be edited is the following:
{dspace.dir}/solr/search/conf/schema.xml. In the fields tag (it should start
somewhere around line 490 of the file) you just need to add the following line:

field name={field.not.to.index} type=ignored multiValued=true/

So for example if you do not want the title field to be indexed add:

field name=dc.title type=ignored multiValued=true/

After this is done just restart the tomcat and re index discovery and the field
should be removed from the index.

I really hope this helps.

Ps: I do plan to create a patch to fix this issue (so that non indexable fields
can be configured) as soon as I find the time to create one.

Kind regards,

[Dspace-tech] Discovery and metadata.hide option in 1.7.1

2011-04-14 Thread Jennifer Whalan
Not sure if this is perhaps a bug or not, but currently in our dspace.cfg, we
have about 8 metadata fields that we want to keep hidden from searches, item
views, oai, etc. However I've noticed that these fields are indexed by
Discovery, and so if doing a filter on Fulltext, the dropdown shows options
that are in these particular fields.

Is there a way to remove these fields from being indexed by Discovery?

Thanks
Jennifer.

[Dspace-tech] URL encoding in DSpace 1.5 (Manakin)

2010-02-10 Thread Jennifer Whalan
Hi all,

I have been looking through the guide
http://wiki.dspace.org/index.php/Make_author_and_subject_links_clickable_%28Manakin%29,
 trying to figure out how to get our author (and subject) links to escape the
's and other various characters properly. The links are there and fine, it is
just Part 1 of the guide that I am having problems with, and hope someone may
be able to help me with.

So (just for interest), the code in the themes xsl is:

a
xsl:attribute name=href
xsl:value-of select=concat($context-path,'/browse?value=') /
xsl:copy-of select=. /amp;type=subject
/xsl:attribute
xsl:value-of select=text() /
/abr /

So, if this is in a theme named MyTheme and in the file MyTheme.xsl, I am
assuming that the sitemap I am supposed to edit is the one in the folder
MyTheme.

So below, I have included the sitemap, as I have inserted the encoding Url
parts:

So my question is, are the encode Url parts been inserted in the right places
and the right file, as even after doing this, the url escaping does not work?

Thanks

Jennifer Whalan

ultimately transformed in the resulting XHTML that is
given to the user's browser.

   2: Add page metadata

The next step is to add theme specific metadata to the
DRI page. This is metadata about where the theme is
located and its name. Typically this metadata is different
depending on the users browser, this allows us to give
different stylesheets to Internet Explorer than for other
browsers.

   3: Transform to XHTML

The third step is the main component of a theme the XSL
transformations will turn the DRI page from the aspects
into an XHTML page useable by browsers.

   4: Localize the page

The second to last step is to localize the content for the
particular user, if they user is requesting a page in a
particular language then those language strings are inserted
into the resulting XHTML.

   5: Serialize to the browser

The last step sends the page to the user's browser.

[Dspace-tech] DCPersonName in 1.5.2

2009-10-19 Thread Jennifer Whalan
We are using XMLUI on 1.5.2.

In DCPersonName.java, we had added a customisation to automatically add
fullstops to the end of author names. This was added to the toString() method.
We had no problem with this in 1.5.1 (XMLUI), but now that we have upgraded to
1.5.2, it is not working anymore.

Now, (and I might be showing off my ignorance here), the DescribeStep.java
under the xmlui-api doesn't look like it directly adds any metadata to an item,
only reads existing metadata to display it, so I'm assuming it is the
DescribeStep.java under the dspace-api that does all the adding of metadata to
an item. That DescribeStep.java under the dspace-api has:

item.addMetadata(schema, element, qualifier, null,
new DCPersonName(l, f).toString());
under the readNames() method, which means it should add the fullstop, under the
modified toString:

public String toString()
{
StringBuffer out = new StringBuffer();

if (lastName != null)
{
out.append(lastName);

if ((firstNames != null)  !firstNames.equals())
{
out.append(, ).append(firstNames);
}

if (out.charAt(out.length() - 1) != '.'  out.charAt(out.length()
- 1) == ')'  out.charAt(out.length() - 1) == '-')
{
out.append(.);
}

}

return (out.toString());
}

After the upgrade, I've been looking at the source, but I can't figure out why
this would not be working anymore. If anyone could give me any hints, would be
very thankful.

[Dspace-tech] Google Analytics and DSpace 1.5.2

2009-09-22 Thread Jennifer Whalan
First up, we're using 1.5.2, XMLUI interface.

In about middle of June, we upgraded our system from 1.5.1 to 1.5.2. At
the same time, our stats on Google Analytics dropped dramatically. There
were a few other network things happening around this time, so I'm not
convinced it is the upgrade, but

The site is: www.territorystories.nt.gov.au

Our Analytics code is installed properly, and Google Analytics itself
can see it, and we are getting some stats. So my question is, has anyone
come across this, or does anyone know if there is something in 1.5.2,
different from 1.5.1, that could cause this behaviour?

Thanks

2009-09-22 Thread Jennifer Whalan
Should have said this as well.

We have another stats system for our site, which is on the same network.
Before the upgrade the Analytics stats and our inhouse stats where only
about 100 hits difference. But after the upgrade the differences have
been over 10,000 hits. This is what made us sit up and wonder.

Thanks for all your help Mark, and everyone else.

Ended up doing a complete rebuild of our source from scratch, keeping a
careful eye on our customisations, and didn't come across this error. A
bit of a mystery, but at least our site is backup and running (for now
:p). Just let me know if there is anymore information I can give.

I followed your first link and couldn't see a Müller, D. at all. Have you
changed this already?

(I'm tracking this to see if it relates to some weird behaviour we have here)

Subject: [Dspace-tech] URL encoding in browse - XMLUI

I have the feeling this may have come up on the list before, perhaps even by
me, but..

Two things (both of which you can try at
http://www.territorystories.nt.gov.au/browse?type=author)

First is diacritics in browse. One of our authors is Müller, D. (which you
should find at the top of this page
http://www.territorystories.nt.gov.au/browse?order=ASCrpp=20sort_by=-1etal=-1offset=5832type=author),
 but when you click on the url, the encoding is wrong, which means that no
items are displayed.

The second is a bit stranger, and I've never seen it before myself. On any of
the authors, which have a comma, or I am assuming any other non-alphabet
character, if you change either one of the sort-by, order or number of results
and then click update, the page it displays has no items showing, and it seems
to be using the encoding of the comma. You can try it here:
http://www.territorystories.nt.gov.au/browse?value=Aagaard%2C+Jane.type=author.

Okay, for the technical stuff:

We are using 1.5.2 XMLUI.
Our tomcat server.xml has the URIEncoding set to UTF-8.

Even though I think they're probably separate parts, I tried adding the
EncodeUrlTransformer, as shown here
http://wiki.dspace.org/index.php/Make_author_and_subject_links_clickable_(Manakin),
on our test instance, but this did not make any difference. You can see this at
http://dspacetest.nt.gov.au

Also, I know that at least the second problem, didn't happen when we were using
1.5.1, but I'm afraid I don't have any of the sitemaps from this version.

[Dspace-tech] Funny things with upgrading 1.5.1 to 1.5.2

2009-06-29 Thread Jennifer Whalan
We currently have two instances of dspace that we use, a live dspace and
dspacetest.

Dspacetest was recently (about a month or two ago), upgraded from 1.5.1
to 1.5.2, with no problems. You can see it in all it's glory here:
dspacetest.nt.gov.au

Today, we attempted to upgrade our live dspace instance to 1.5.2. After
restarting tomcat though, we got a java.net.MalformedURLException:
unknown protocol: resource error (full stack trace included).

After looking around I found that in 1.5.1 there was a cocoon.xconf
which included

component-instance
class=org.apache.excalibur.source.impl.ResourceSourceFactory
name=resource/

which I assume is pointing to the resource. Looking around I couldn't
find cocoon.xconf anywhere in 1.5.2 and thought it must have been
removed. But still needing the site to work I included it back in
webapps/xmlui/WEB-INF, which still did nothing at the time.

Looking in webapps/xmlui/WEB-INF/web.xml shows that 1.5.1 included

servlet
servlet-nameCocoon/servlet-name
display-nameCocoon/display-name
descriptionCocoon/description

servlet-class
org.dspace.app.xmlui.cocoon.DSpaceCocoonServlet
/servlet-class

init-param
param-nameconfigurations/param-name
param-value/WEB-INF/cocoon.xconf/param-value
/init-param

but that 1.5.2 doesn't and seems to use DSpaceCocoonServletFilter
instead(?)

After playing around a bit more, moving files here and there, finally I
received no more errors and could view the webpage. However it turns out
that all I did was return the xmlui/WEB-INF folder to its exact state
before upgrading to 1.5.2, so that technically the site was still
running on 1.5.1 code.

What I would like is any assistance if possible, as to why I would get
this error on one instance of dspace, after another instance had been
upgraded properly.

To go through my processes for upgrading:

ran mvn package in src/dspace-1.5.2-src-release
turned off tomcat (which by the way, both instances of dspace are using
the same instance of tomcat)
ran ant update in
src/dspace-1.5.2-src-release/dspace/target/dspace-1.5.2-build.dir
ran ant update_configs in
src/dspace-1.5.2-src-release/dspace/target/dspace-1.5.2-build.dir (which
is redudant?)
restarted tomcat

If it helps the live site is www.territorystories.nt.gov.au, and though
looks good is using 1.5.1 code.

[Dspace-tech] XMLUI, javascript and IE

2009-06-25 Thread Jennifer Whalan
Realising that this is outside the scope of dspace, we have a problem
related to a javascript for our xmlui on ie. The following code we find
works perfectly in firefox, but does not display the background image in
ie (specifically IE6, just tested in IE7 and 8 and it works fine). This
is a script to display a random background image on the load of the
page.

The code is:

   div class=TSbannerImg id=TSbannerImg
script
 maximumBannerImages = 12;
 bannerNumber = Math.floor(Math.random()*maximumBannerImages);
 document.getElementById('TSbannerImg').style.backgroundImage =
'url(/themes/TerritoryStories/images/random/ts_MidImg'+bannerNumber+'.j
pg)';
/script
   /div

and in the css:

.TSbannerImg {
 background-image: url(../images/random/ts_MidImg1.jpg);
 background-repeat: no-repeat;
 padding-top: 150px;
}

If anybody would be able to give a hint about this, it would be greatly
appreciated.

Re: [Dspace-tech] XMLUI, javascript and IE

2009-06-25 Thread Jennifer Whalan
Thanks to all who responded to this. Mika's fix solved the problem, by
setting the height of the div only in the style-ie css (adding it to the
other style sheets doubled up the space where the image is placed).

My guess is that IE6 doesn't calculate the size of the div to the size
of the image in the div, but other browsers do not have this problem.

script
 maximumBannerImages = 12;
 bannerNumber =
Math.floor(Math.random()*maximumBannerImages);

document.getElementById('TSbannerImg').style.backgroundImage =
'url(/themes/TerritoryStories/images/random/ts_MidImg'+bannerNumber+'.j
pg)';
/script
   /div

and in the css:

.TSbannerImg {
 background-image: url(../images/random/ts_MidImg1.jpg);
 background-repeat: no-repeat;
 padding-top: 150px;
}

If anybody would be able to give a hint about this, it would be
greatly appreciated.

Subject: RE: [Dspace-tech] Removing Community-List from front page -

Hi Jennifer,

The best way would be to override the ArtifactBrowser aspect - took me a
while to figure out the correct paths while I was testing this live, but
I imagine (hope!) if you put a custom sitemap.xmap into
[dspace-src]/dspace/modules/xmlui/src/main/resources/aspects/ArtifactBro
wser/sitemap.xmap, then rebuild, your overridden sitemap will be used.

(FWIW, the quick way to test this live is to make a
WEB-INF/classes/aspects/ArtifactBrowser directory beneath your main
xmlui webapp directory, copy the original ArtifactBrowser sitemap.xmap
(you can find it in your dspace-xmlui-api source tree) into this
directory and make changes from there)

Once you've got everything copied over and ready to customise, you can
take a look at the file itself, and when you get to:

map:match pattern=

Then you're matching the homepage.

You'll see that within this pattern match, the CommunityBrowser
transform is called:

map:transform type=CommunityBrowser

   map:parameter name=depth value=1/

 /map:transform

You can just remove this map:transform block altogether, and the
resulting homepage won't display the community list.

I'm just re-reading this now and it's pretty messy to follow, sorry...
just reply if you get stuck.

Cheers,

Kim

Subject: [Dspace-tech] Removing Community-List from front page - XMLUI

To any XSLT experts out there. Or at least anyone who is better than me.

We are preparing our test instance of 1.5.2 to go live, and one of the
requirements is that the list of communities is removed from the front
page. In the main theme I started off with

 xsl:template match=/dri:document/dri:body/dri:d...@id =
'aspect.artifactbrowser.CommunityBrowser.div.comunity-browser'] /

but then found out that the community-list page displays the list of
communities/collections in the same way.

So I need to remove from the front page, but keep on the community-list
page.

The next bit I tried was:

 xsl:template name=removeCommunity
  xsl:choose
   xsl:when
test=string(/dri:document/dri:meta/dri:pageMeta/dri:metada...@qualifier
='URI']) != 'community-list'
xsl:apply-templates select=/dri:document/dri:body/dri:d...@id =
'aspect.artifactbrowser.CommunityBrowser.div.comunity-browser']
mode=hide /

   /xsl:when
   xsl:otherwise
xsl:apply-templates select=/dri:document/dri:body/dri:d...@id =
'aspect.artifactbrowser.CommunityBrowser.div.comunity-browser'] /
   /xsl:otherwise
  /xsl:choose
 /xsl:template

 xsl:template
match=/dri:document/dri:body/dri:d...@id='aspect.artifactbrowser.Commun
ityBrowser.div.comunity-browser'] mode=hide priority=1 /

Which actually shows both of them (though I thought it would do the
opposite). It seems (to me) that the only way to hide it on the front
page is to make a template to match comunity-browser, but that would
still hide it everywhere else.

If anyone knows how I can solve this problem in XSLT could you please
let me know? Otherwise if there's a way to do this in the source?

Thanks

[Dspace-tech] FW: 1.5.2 browse and UTF-8

2009-05-05 Thread Jennifer Whalan
Just resending, as I did not get any replies.

A question about browsing in 1.5.2 XMLUI

On our test instance, we have upgraded from 1.5.1, to 1.5.2 (using manakin),
and we have an author with the name Müller, D. However, when you go to view
the browse list of the items of this author, the url is
browse?value=Müller%2C+D.type=author, but the page says

Browsing by Author Müller, D.

and shows no items.

Reading through the changelist for 1.5.2, my understanding was that this
http://jira.dspace.org/jira/browse/DS-132 fixed this problem(?). Another issue
(http://jira.dspace.org/jira/browse/DS-130), says that you need to remove the
URIEncoding=UTF-8 from the tomcat settings. This setting is currently on for
us.

In 1.5.2, do you still need to remove this from the tomcat settings (although
the manual states that when installing, you need to make sure this is added to
the tomcat settings), or am I missing something. Also, the web.xml file does
have cocoon filter in it.

If it makes any difference, the request header for the browse page of this
author is

Accept-Charset   ISO-8859-1,utf-8;q=0.7,*;q=0.7

and the response header is

Content-Typetext/html;charset=utf-8

Thanks

Re: [Dspace-tech] FW: 1.5.2 browse and UTF-8 and diacritics

2009-05-05 Thread Jennifer Whalan
While I was at it. Has anyone solved the issue about the sort order, with
authors (or subjects I suppose), that contain diacritics. At this link:
http://www.territorystories.nt.gov.au/browse?order=ASCrpp=20sort_by=-1etal=-1offset=5823type=author

We have the authors:

Muston, C.

Mutch, Verdun Joseph.

Müller, D.

Myeni, Annie D.

Myerscough, Mark.

But our cataloguers expect for the author Müller, D. to be between the
authors:

Mull, A. E. E.

and

Muller, W.J.

I've had a look at the source, and if I'm reading it correctly, the
OrderFormatAuthor is the file that controls this, and when it calls
DecomposeDiacitics, it changes this author to mu(diacritic)ller, w.j. I'm
assuming that because it places the diacritic after the u, that is why this
author is sorting after all the authors that begin with Mu.

To make this long story short, is there a way to make the sort, ignore
diacritics completely, and just order by the character.

Thanks

Jennifer

[Dspace-tech] Lucene and Wildcard searching

2008-06-04 Thread Jennifer . Whalan

This question is probably more a Lucene one, but since DSpace is using it's own
analyzer, I'm hoping I might get the answer (or a push in the right direction?)
here. Using Dspace 1.4.2.

In our repository we have a couple of thousand images that each have their own
unique identifier, which we have placed in the dc.identifier.other field, in the
format of PH0110/0570 or PH0745/0003. http://www.territorystories.nt.gov.au
-- Here if you want to have a look.

dc.identifier is being indexed, and searching for the full identifier is no
problem. The interesting stuff starts happening when we use wildcards.

If I search PH0110*, you get the results you would expect, with all the images
with their identifier starting with this string.

However if I search PH0110/*, I get no results. I checked and '/' does not
seem to be an escaped character, so I'm not sure why it would be interfering.
Also if I try to search PH0110/06*, I get no results.

What we actually wanted to do was to be able to search and retrieve all the
records with identifiers from PH0110/0600 to PH0110/0700. I also tried searching
with identifier:[PH0110/0600 TO PH0110/0700], but also came up with no
results.

I was going to try and use Luke, but haven't had much success (is there a unix
command line based version of Luke?).

If anyone has any solutions/suggestions please let me know.

Even though in my email I had my search terms in quotes, I wasn't actually

We had the same problem here though in our case the Short Description
field was typically blank. We found that if we inserted something (even
a space) in the Short Description field, then the problem was solved.

 I have a rather weird problem, which I've reached the end of my limit of

 working.

 The problem is the manakin side. Yesterday, there were only one community
feed,
 and two collection feeds working, while all the other feeds were giving an
error
 (I've included it below). Today, after I've restarted tomcat, three different
 collection feeds are working now and all the others are gone. It seems to be
 pretty random, some of them are big collections, some of them are small.

 I traced it to com.sun.syndication.io.impl.RSS20Generator where it seems to
be
 something with the description, but all the collections and communities have
 descriptions, and if they didn't, I'm assuming that the JSPUI would have made
a
 fuss.

 Any help with this problem would be greatly appreciated.

Re: [Dspace-tech] Setting authorization to add bitstreams

2008-01-22 Thread Jennifer . Whalan
I have a better understanding of what you were talking about now. We have items
that have an old photo, which we want to delete, and a new photo, which we want
to upload.

One staff member, can upload the new photo, as long as they don't delete the old
photo first. If they delete the old photo, they UI says that they need ADD and
WRITE permissions for this bundle.

From what I can tell, the user has all the permissions for the bundle with the
old photo, but as soon as that photo is deleted, so is the bundle, and so are
their permissions. But they still have all the permissions for the item itself.
And the permissions don't seem to cascade down.

So, I have a few questions:

1. Does anyone know any particular way to fix/work around this?

2. Could this be considered a bug?

3. We're on 1.4.2. For anyone using 1.5, does the same thing happen?

Thanks

We just had a similar problem to this, and I found that by using the wildcard
authorisation tool, if I set WRITE, ADD, and REMOVE permissions on both the
items and bitstreams for the particular collection, that the user was able to
add bitstreams. Perhaps if you don't care about the user deleting bitstreams,
you don't need to worry about the REMOVE permissions though.

We have a DSpace 1.4.2 setup with a custom Web interface. There is a group of
users who have permission to Add and Write in a collection. They are able to add
new records with metadata, but they cannot add new bitstreams. When they try to
add bitstreams, they get an error message saying Authorization denied for
action ADD on ITEM:50 by user 9.

Members of the Administrators group can add both metadata and bitstreams, so
that action is possible.

In looking at the Authorization settings for a collection, I see
DEFAULT_BITSTREAM_READ, but I do not see options for bitstream Add or Write.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Bob

[Dspace-tech] Making thumbnails/previews of tiff images

2007-08-16 Thread Jennifer . Whalan

I have some TIFF images in our dspace repository which we would like to have
thumbnails and previews of. I added TIFF to the media filter input files in
dspace.cfg but when running media filter I get this error.

I did find this -http://www.uvm.edu/~waw/blog/?p=27 after googling around a
bit, but I only got so far as downloading and installing the Java Advanced
Imagine Tools, got a bit stuck after that. Does anyone know of any other way
that I would be able to do this. Looking at the blog, it's trying to create tif
files, but all I want to do is read them, and then create a jpg. Any
suggestions?
