[Dspace-tech] strange effect with dspace-1.7.0

2010-12-21 Thread Jochen Lienhard

Hi,

I installed dspace-1.7.0 at two different Linux distribution:

1) openSuSE 11.3 (Apache Maven 2.2.1)
2) openSuSE 11.1 (Maven version: 2.0.9)

in case 1) all is perfect.
in case 2) in the webapps directory all files are in one directory ...
even a strange effect in the numbers of the files:

1)
fresh_install:
[copy] Copying 8 files to /opt/dspace-1.7.0/bin
[copy] Copying 71 files to /opt/dspace-1.7.0/lib
[copy] Copying 21 files to /opt/dspace-1.7.0/etc
[copy] Copying 27 files to /opt/dspace-1.7.0/solr

copy_webapps:
[copy] Copying 967 files to /opt/dspace-1.7.0/webapps
[copy] Copied 130 empty directories to 6 empty directories under
/opt/dspace-1.7.0/webapps

[copy] Copying 6 files to /opt/dspace-1.7.0/webapps

2)
fresh_install:
[copy] Copying 8 files to /opt/dspace-1.7.0/bin
[copy] Copying 70 files to /opt/dspace-1.7.0/lib
[copy] Copying 21 files to /opt/dspace-1.7.0/etc
[copy] Copying 27 files to /opt/dspace-1.7.0/solr

copy_webapps:
[copy] Copying 668 files to /opt/dspace-1.7.0/webapps
[copy] Copied 90 empty directories to 1 empty directory under
/opt/dspace-1.7.0/webapps

[copy] Copying 1 file to /opt/dspace-1.7.0/webapps

Does anyone know, which could be the problem?

Greetings

Jochen

P.S.
If I copy the xmlui folder from 1) to the webapps folder of 2) ... it
works . very strange

Thanks for that hints.

I will upgrade my maven.

Perhaps you should change the prerequisite software documentation.

Merry christmas

As Maven 2.2.0 was released back in July(?) 2009, I don't think it's
entirely unreasonable to just deprecate the use of 2.0.x and focus on
2.2.0 and above.

Hi Jochen,

It looks like we have a small bug somewhere. I've verified that
building DSpace using Maven 2.0.x doesn't seem to work 100% properly.

Essentially, everything doesn't get copied to
[dspace-src]/dspace/target/dspace-1.7.0-build/webapps/ properly, which
causes the fresh_install issues you've seen.

The temporary fix is one of the following:

(1) Either install Maven 2.2.1 (which works fine)

OR

(2) Manually copy the webapps from their
[dspace-src]/dspace/modules/[webapp-name]/target/ directory. So, for
example, the XMLUI webapp is built properly to the path:

[dspace-src]/dspace/modules/xmlui/target/xmlui-1.7.0/

However, it doesn't get copied over to the webapps directory
properly
(which is something Maven is supposed to do for you, but it
doesn't seem
to be working). So, if you manually perform the copy, everything
should
work fine.

I'm digging around to see if I can figure out a better fix to this
issue.

Re: [Dspace-tech] Shibboleth - user groups

2010-10-20 Thread Jochen Lienhard

Hi,

we only have this shibboleth protection configuration:

Location /shibboleth-login
   AuthType shibboleth
   ShibRequireSession On
   require valid-user
   ShibUseHeaders On
/Location

We do not protect the root-path.

We have not yet tested the authentication.shib.role-header.
Could it perhaps be a problem of scoped or not scoped affiliation?

Subject: [Dspace-tech] Shibboleth - user groups

Hi all,

I have set up Shibboleth authentication in DSpace and assingning groups
according to the affiliation (authentication.shib.role-header) does
not
work.

I have found that getSpecialGroups() from
/org/dspace/authenticate/ShibAuthentication.java gets no shibboleth
headers. I guess that the trouble lies in Apache config. At first I have
tried mod_proxy, then mod_jk and the result is still the same. To get
getSpecialGroups() works properly (to sent shib headers) I have to
change
Apache config slightly to use lazy session for the root (where I have my
DSpace installation):

Location /shibboleth-login
AuthType shibboleth
ShibRequireSession On
Require valid-user
ShibUseHeaders On
/Location

Location /
AuthType shibboleth
ShibRequireSession Off
ShibUseHeaders on
Require shibboleth
/Location

So this is lazy session configuration. Using this, groups assigning
works.
But I can't logout - means trying to reach /mydspace cause I'm logged in
via Shibboleth without asking what kind of authetication I want. If I
was
logged in before, my last session is used, if I wasn't there is
something I name empty user. It seems, DSpace tests shibboleth
header
and then assumes somebody is logged in.

Removing lazy session config (for the root /) causes Shibboleth works
fine
except for assigning groups.

Has anyone experienced the same troubles? Can you share your Apache
config?

I have version 1.6.2, also last SP (2.3.1 I think). I have also set up
webui.session.invalidate = false.

Thanks.

[Dspace-tech] Problem with adding new submission-item using xmlui

2010-08-31 Thread Jochen Lienhard

Hi,

I added a new submission-item like discribed in
http://old.nabble.com/Static-page-during-submission-td23837241.html#a23849526

It looks good, but when I push the 'next' button on the 'new' page (or
any other button), it jumps back to the first page and removes all input.

After switching on the DEBUG mode I found this message:
2010-08-31 10:28:23,140 DEBUG net.sf.ehcache.store.MemoryStore @
cocoon-ehcacheCache: cocoon-ehcacheMemoryStore hit for

The new submission-item is step number 5.

Does anybody know what could be the problem?
I'm using DSpace 1.6.2.

[Dspace-tech] OBJID of a collection/community

2009-12-21 Thread Jochen Lienhard
Hi,

we try to build links for author search in the itemSummaryList.

The idea is to put 'browse?type=authoramp;value=' after the base url of
the collection/community,
but our problem is, how to get this url.

If we use:

a href=parent::mets:METS/@OBJID it is fine but when we try to add
the rest string ... we get the base URL.

We still have DSpace 1.5.1.

Can anyone give us a hint, what is wrong?

Greetings and a nice christmas time

[Dspace-tech] UIUtil month -1

Hi,

I have some metadata-sets, which only contains a year (no month and day).
For sorting I put the date in like this 1930-00-00.

I dont know the month 'Uns' ;-)

So my question.

Why did you programm month and date -1 and not 0 in UIUtil.java?

Re: [Dspace-tech] Zotero Embedded RDF issues with some DSpace instance

2009-05-18 Thread Jochen Lienhard
if you can not remove the 'dspace' from your URL, you can block the
dspace-zotero interpreter
(that does not work), by the source code of ItemTag.java and
styles.css.jsp.

Zotreo scans for
- itemDisplayTable
- miscTable

So, if you chance this for example in itemMyDisplayTable and
miscMyTable, the RDF embedded Zotero
interpreter is used.

 http://dspace-testhaton.cilea.it/jspui/handle/123456789/60

This uses the DSpace translator (not the embedded RDF translator).
This is because 'dspace' appears in the url.

 http://researchspace.auckland.ac.nz/handle/2292/3065
 http://www.archenvimat.pz.cnr.it/handle/10122/365

The embedded RDF import works for both of these for me.

PS: another strange behavior is about the list of items, where the
single item import works the item list are not importable in Zotero
where instead it doesn't work the import option is available

Batch import depends upon using the DSpace translator instead of the
embedded RDF translator. This essentially means having URIs added to
Zotero or ensuring that your uri has 'dspace' in it somewhere.

[Dspace-tech] import RDF into DSpace

2009-05-18 Thread Jochen Lienhard
Hi,

if you have some data in Zotero you export these in RDF. (as you can see
below).

All metadatas are in one file. Do you know how or do you have experience
about importing such
datas in DSpace?

Greetings

Jochen

Hi,

very strange effect.
If I copy the link part in a plain html file, Zotero likes it, but not
when it come from DSpace.
Any ideas?

[Dspace-tech] netid to lower case

2008-12-19 Thread Jochen Lienhard
Hi,

I detected, that in EPerson.java the netid is manipulated and changed to
lower case.
I think this is not good!

There are some problems:
- The netid is no longer unique, because U0815 and u0815 will get the
same netid.
- In the findByNetid method there is NO change to lower case, so it can
not be found.

Is this a bug or a feature? ;-)

[Dspace-tech] netid using for Shibboleth

2008-12-12 Thread Jochen Lienhard
Hi,

I found the netid column in the eperson table.

Can this be used for a login too instead of the email address?
This could be the solution for the pseudonym login with Shibboleth.

Re: [Dspace-tech] pseudonym vs email-address

2008-12-11 Thread Jochen Lienhard
Hallo,

thanks to Bruc for the answer and to Kevin for the patch.

I think my third question about the email-address is a basic question,
that not only touches shibboleth.

If I understand right, the email-address is the login-name of the user
and the address, where to post the alerts.
Can this email-address change? perhaps if someone moves to another provider.
If it could not be changes all alerts get lost and the user must create
the list of alerts again.

The email-address is the basic value to give the rights to a person too,
isn't it?
Can you be sure, that this person will keep the email-address forever?
... I think NO, because some provider
assign email-address after some time again to other persons. So this
person can get the password,
with the forgotten call and login and have the rights of the other
person before.

I think pseudonym (targetedID) would be a nice feature for users, who
want to use alerts and nothing else,
but for the authors you need some more informations too.

Coming to my final point and question:
Can the email-address be replaced by a pseudonym, or isn't this
imposible because of the DSpace
user database.

Greetings

Jochen

3rd question: should be easy to use targetedID as an identifier, will upload
the patch for it soon (including your suggested modification from awhile
 back!).

 Third question:
Can I use a targetedID instead of the mail-address for Shibboleth?
But how can I add the email address direct in DSpace when using shibboleth?

Re: [Dspace-tech] encoding and a hint about Messages.properties

2008-12-11 Thread Jochen Lienhard
Hi,

the problem is in
dspace-api/src/main/java/org/dspace/core/ConfigurationManager.java
in the method loadConfig the call:
properties.load(is);

As you can see in:
shib-dspace-1.5.1-src-release/dspace-xmlui/dspace-xmlui-api/src/main/java/org/dspace/app/xmlui/utils/AuthenticationUtil.java

This call loads the properties using ISO 8859-1 encoding and NOT utf-8.

Any ideas for the solution?
- converting the dspace.cfg to ISO 8859-1
- converting dspace.cfg to an XML file and using loadfromXML
- writing a checker, that converts the values of the properties ISO8859
to UTF-8

Greetings

Jochen

[Dspace-tech] Shibboleth and tomcat-Root mapping

2008-12-09 Thread Jochen Lienhard
Hi,

I have some questions about DSpace and Shibboleth.

I try to map the dspace-jspui to the ROOT of the tomcat.
In the apache mod_proxy I map / to localhost:8009.

Now I have the problem, that the Shibboleth endpoint can not be found.

How do you manage it? Did you use /jspui as start URL?

Second question:
Can I switch of the self-registration using jspui?
I only want to give people access, who use Shibboleth.

Third question:
Can I use a targetedID instead of the mail-address for Shibboleth?
But how can I add the email address direct in DSpace when using shibboleth?

and last question ;-)
When will be the shibboleth patch for DSpace 1.5.1 available?

Greetings

[Dspace-tech] Position of the Show-Full Button

2008-09-19 Thread Jochen Lienhard
Hi,

if you have a long set of metadata and a long list of objects, it would
be better to have the
show full item record button at top instead of the the bottom of the side.

Is there a way to configure this in the dspace.cfg for the jspui?
Perhaps something like: webui.detail.button.align = TOP

Greetings

Jochen

[Dspace-tech] showBitstream in ItemTag

2008-09-19 Thread Jochen Lienhard
Hi,

I'm thinking about a function showBitstream() in the ItemTag.java
that shows html-objects in the website (for example for zoomify or other
flash or
multimedia objects).

Is someone interested in such a function?

Greetings

Jochen

[Dspace-tech] DSpace 1.5 and Shibboleth

2008-05-05 Thread Jochen Lienhard
Hello,

we are testing DSpace 1.5 and I look now for a description how to
integrate Shibboleth.
I only find the doc for 1.4, but it seems that does not work with 1.5.

Is there a new description or patch for DSpace 1.5 available?

Greetings

Jochen
