** BRAZIL. 11934.536, July 15 at 0504, R?dio RB2 measured here in its very slow
downward drift, very poor signal with music.

11925.228, July 15 at 0505, R. Bandeirantes, poor in Portuguese (but better
than RB2).

11854.905, July 15 at 0507, R. Aparecida is a bit stronger than RB2 which is
probably relaying it.

11764.655, July 15 at 0510, SRDA is JBA. Usually can also detect the carrier
even when Cuba is still on 11760.

11815+, July 15 at 0506, R. Brasil Central is missing again. However, it`s
still active but apparently not all-night. Wolfgang B?schel measured it and all
the others:

``Check on dark path from Brazil to southern Germany in 2110-2130 UT slot July
14 reveal: 11764.647, 11815.020, 11854.890, 11925.223, 11934.514 kHz. 73 wb``
(Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** CUBA. 4765, July 15 at 0259, R. Progreso in Spanish is back on tonight after
missing last night. What else might one have heard in its absence? Is R. Rural,
Santar?m PA, Brasil, active as in Aoki? Probably not. WRTH had it inactive, but
another 4765, R. Integra??o as active. Only other 4765 is Tajikistan at 23-20
UT. Sunrise in Dushanbe is 0014 UT, so westward one might even hear it before
Cuba opens at 0030 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** CUBA [and non]. 11980, July 15 at 0501, V. of Turkey weak music suffers from
weak Cuban-style pulse jamming, like some more barely audible against no Mart?
on 11930. Hypothesis: one of the jam operators punched in the wrong frequency
for his pointless but destructive mission (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING
DIGEST)

** MADAGASCAR. 9480, July 15 at 0457, surprised to catch last minute of MWV in
SPANISH! as La Voz Alegre, postal address in Cuba, S5 until 0458* vs high
Oklahoma storm noise level. 0400 broadcast is of course supposed to be in
English; played back wrong file? Worth checking forthwith, whether earlier
hours jumble languages: supposed to be 00-01 English 9600, 01-02 English 9665,
02-03 Spanish 6190, 03-04 Spanish 6150 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** RUSSIA. 7295, July 15 at 1100, presumed R. Sakha, Yakutsk in talk S5? below
Oklahoma storm noise level of S8, but I do copy a mis-timesignal ending at
1100:05.5; believe there were 5 mis-pips but maybe 6 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX
LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 1834 monitoring: confirmed Thursday July 14
at 2100 on WRMI 13695, very good; strangely, Brother Scare theme played right
up until 2100 instead of an ID. Once again, I keep listening at 2130-2200 for
`Blues Radio International`. Bigsig makes wideband audio feasible. WOR 1834 NOT
confirmed Thursday July 14 at 2330 since WBCQ 9330 is off (and so are 7490,
5130). Next:

[DX] Königs Wusterhausen Transmission and Radio Technology Museum on the Funkerberg

2016-07-15 Thread Kari Kallio

In 1920 came the launch of Germany's first radio transmitter, the Transmitter
Königs Wusterhausen, and in 1935, Königs Wusterhausen was raised to town
status. Of the once great number of building works on the Funkerberg
("Transmitter Mountain"), only very little is preserved nowadays, as many
transmission towers were dismantled for technical reasons after the Central
Tower collapsed and fell on 15 November 1972. Today, only a 210-m-high mast and
two small freestanding towers are to be found there. Along with the remaining
buildings, this forms a technological monument. Until 1999 this mast bore the
transmitting antenna that served as the reserve antenna for the longwave
stations at Zehlendorf bei Oranienburg and Donebach.
In 1994, a 67-m-high precast concrete cellular transmission tower was put up.
It is today the only active transmitter on the Funkerberg. The first attempts
at transmissions were in 1908. On 22 December 1920, music and speech were
transmitted wirelessly from the Funkerberg for the first time on "Welle 2400" –
longwave. It went down in history as the German postal system's Christmas
concert. Königs Wusterhausen is thus also said to be the cradle of German
radio. The artists in that broadcast were, incidentally, postal employees. The
initiative was German radio pioneer Hans Bredow's brainchild (for this and
other groundbreaking work, he is considered the "Father of German Radio").
Until 1926, the popular Sonntagskonzerte ("Sunday Concerts") were broadcast.
The station's studio was in the beginning a remodelled bathroom at the first
broadcasting house on the Funkerberg.
Spitzentechnologie vermittelt. Auf diesem Boden und in dieser Gesinnung
entwickelt sich heute technisch-wissenschaftliche Kompetenz in den
Zukunftstechnologien Luftfahrttechnik, Logistik / Telematik, Energietechnik,
kulturhistorischer Bedeutung. 1920 wurde von hier aus die erste Rundfunksendung
in Deutschland ausgestrahlt.
und Life Science ermittelt. Auch im Standortentwicklungskonzept des Regionalen
Wachstumskerns Schönefelder Kreuz ist der städtebaulich hochwertige
Technologiepark verankert.

Santarém PA, Brasil, active as in Aoki? Probably not. WRTH had it inactive, but
another 4765, R. Integração as active. Only other 4765 is Tajikistan at 23-20
UT. Sunrise in Dushanbe is 0014 UT, so westward one might even hear it before
Cuba opens at 0030 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** CUBA [and non]. 11980, July 15 at 0501, V. of Turkey weak music suffers from
weak Cuban-style pulse jamming, like some more barely audible against no Martí

WOR 1834 NOT
confirmed Thursday July 14 at 2330 since WBCQ 9330 is off (and so are 7490,
5130). Next:
Fri 2130 WRMI 15770 to NE
Fri 2130.5 WRMI 13695 to NW
Fri 2330 WBCQ 9330v-CUSB to WSW
Sat 0630 HLR 6190-CUSB to SW
Sat 1430 HLR 7265-CUSB to SW
Sat 1930v WA0RCR 1860-AM ND
Sat 2230 WBCQ 9330v-CUSB to WSW
Sun 0310v WA0RCR 1860-AM ND
Sun 2330 WBCQ 9330v-CUSB to WSW
Mon 0030 WRMI 7730 to WNW
Mon 0300v WBCQ 5130v Area 51 to WSW
Mon 0330 WRMI 9955 to SSE
Mon 2330 WBCQ 9330v-CUSB to WSW
Tue 1100 WRMI 9955 to SSE
Tue 2130 WRMI 15770 to NE
Tue 2330 WBCQ 9330v-CUSB to WSW
Wed 1315.5 WRMI 9955 to SSE
Wed 2100 WBCQ 7490v to WSW
Wed 2330 WBCQ 9330v-CUSB to WSW
(Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 7489.9-AM, Thu July 14 at 2330, WBCQ is OFF, so Broad Spectrum
Radio`s weekly slot is missed. Also off is 9330v-CUSB when WORLD OF RADIO
should have played. Nor anything audible on 5129.9-AM, but normally not on air
at this time anyway. What`s wrong at Monticello? Recheck at UT July 15,
all still off, so also missing Blalock the Blaster on 9330. Next check at 0257
UT July 15, all still off. Note that WTWW, WEWN, and WRMI have also been
missing a lot lately (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 15610, 13830, 12050, July 14 at 2149, ALL three WEWN transmitters are
OFF. Not sure if they ever came back, since tuned in too late to recheck before
wholesale QSY to night channels: UT July 15 at all of them have signed on:
5810 & 11870 in Spanish, 11520 in English (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING
DIGEST)

** U S A. 7504.997, July 15 at 0257, WRNO is close to on-frequency, S9+20, and
no WBCQ to worry about splattering on 7490, since the latter is off (see
separate report).

Also, Ron Howard heard WRNO`s Chinese segment the night before at ``0355-0400*,
Thursday, July 14. Out-of-date WRNO website does not list this program `Praise
for Today`; in the past was scheduled for Thursday and Saturday 0300-0400``
(Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 5085, UT Friday July 15 at 0455, WTWW-2 is off, so no more `Midnight
[sic] in the Desert`. 5830 WTWW-1 is also off, nor on day frequency 9475 which
sometimes runs at night. Recheck at 1058 UT July 15, 5830 is still off. Last
signal heard from WTWW was dead air on 12105 at 1826 July 14 when both others
were also off. July 15 at 1653

[DX] VOA Radiogram, program 172, 16-17 July 2016. All modes are centered on 1500 Hz.

2016-07-15 Thread Kari Kallio
Hello friends,
Have your white laboratory coats ready, because VOA Radiogram will be very
experimental this weekend.
Battle of the 55-wpm modes. VOA Radiogram listener and contributor Mark Hirst
in the UK suggests an experiment with the BPSK63F mode. His interest was
generated by an article in the August QST magazine about the "flavors of PSK."
It noted that BPSK63F, with its forward error correction, has a "remarkable
ability to be decoded under poor conditions."

During the early editions of VOA Radiogram, we did transmit BPSK63F a few
times. This weekend, we'll do it again, in comparison with two other modes that
also have speeds of about 55 words per minute: MFSK16 and Olivia 8-1000. The
RSID for each mode will be followed by a 15-second tuning signal, in case you
must manually change modes. More details below in the lineup.

The return of Flmsg. This weekend's program will include on item in Flmsg
format. Flmsg is an add-on to Fldigi that allows the transmission and reception
of message forms and formatted html documents.

If you don’t already have Fldigi, download it from
https://sourceforge.net/projects/fldigi/files/fldigi/ . Download Flmsg from
https://sourceforge.net/projects/fldigi/files/flmsg/ .

To make Flmsg work with Fldigi, in Fldigi: Configure > Misc > NBEMS > under
Reception of flmsg files, select Open with flmsg and Open in browser, and below
that indicate where your Flmsg.exe file is located – probably somewhere in
Program Files(x86).
If all goes well, when the digital mode transmission concludes, Flmsg will open
a new window of your web browser to display a formatted VOA Radiogram
transmission schedule. If your default browser is not open, Flmsg will open it
for you. (If you are asked to ignore checksum error, select Yes.)
If it doesn’t work the first time, or you don’t have Flmsg installed, you can
try this later from your recording. In Windows, an easy way to save the
received document is to use the Microsoft Snipping
Tool.
Please send that image as an attachment to your reception report.

If you are an Android user, TIVAR does not accommodate Flmsg files. But a
similar app,dFlmsg,
as its name would indicate, does. Unlike TIVAR, which is receive-only, AndFlmsg
encodes as well as decodes and is used by radio amateurs for message traffic.
After the Flmsg is received, go to the index screen and press on the name of
the file.

Here is the lineup for VOA Radiogram, program 172, 16-17 July 2016. All
modesare centered on 1500 Hz.

Thank you for your reception reports for last weekend's VOA Radiogram.
Reception conditions were generally good, although propagation Saturday at
