As far as I am aware of, there are no active hams from Minami Torishima(another JD1) presently. Minami Torishima is the restricted area only for the Meteorological Agency and the Self-Defense Force. So we just have to wait for some hams related to those two organiztions to land on the Island. Let's keep our fingures crossed! Re: [DX-NEWS] IRC cash-in MORE of the story
Hi Charly, You're lucky. There used to be a rule that you could only cash in 10 IRCs per day! Either they didn't know it at your post office or the rule was changed. 73, Joe, W1JR At 09:59 PM 2/3/2002 +, Charles Harpole wrote: >Yep, I received .80 cents for each IRC in the form of stamps of my choice >of face values. Re: [DX-NEWS] IRC cash-in story
Just a clarification...per the UPU, and per the current USPS Int'l Mail Manual, the coupons issued anytime after Jan 1 1975 are good 'indefinitely'. I agree that the current ones are likely to be phased out...heck, I can take an IRC purchased in another country in 1975 and get 80 cents for them (some inflation, i suspect)but bottom line, they're still good. And they do serve some purposein areas where greenstamps are either illegal to have, or risky to send. IRCs do not look like a US Greenback. I'd not rush out to try to rid yourselves of the ones you have, but also be aware that they may be phased out in the future...as were the old ones pre-1975. 73 Steve KU9C --- Steve Wheatley KU9C PO Box 5953 Parsippany NJ 07054-6953 U.S.A. email: [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://www.ku9c.com/ -- Original Message -- From: "Charles Harpole" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Date: Sun, 03 Feb 2002 21:14:57 >Hello DXers... >I took 293 IRC coupons to my local Post Office (USA) and cashed them in for >stamps (no cash refund allowed) with very little delay. [DX-NEWS] IRC cash-in MORE of the story
Yep, I received .80 cents for each IRC in the form of stamps of my choice of face values. (Even those IRCs dated before the price increase of them!!!). This is really better than my stocks' performances! I must say the P. O. clerks really got into the fun of counting all those IRCs. Re: [DX-NEWS] IRC cash-in story
DXers Please Note: I share Charles' sentiments as well. US Green Stamps work so much easier for USA managers... and I believe IRCs are more costly for all concerned. 73 Tony, W4FOA Charles Harpole wrote: > > Hello DXers... > I took 293 IRC coupons to my local Post Office (USA) and cashed them in for > stamps (no cash refund allowed) with very little delay. [DX-NEWS] IRC cash-in story
Hello DXers... I took 293 IRC coupons to my local Post Office (USA) and cashed them in for stamps (no cash refund allowed) with very little delay. The clerks huddled about proper procedure, but then gave me stamps, fully redeeming my IRCs. The clerks confirmed that these old IRCs may not be accepted soon in the future and will be replaced by another kind of IRC. I certainly hope no one sends me any more of these troublesome things. de K4VUD HS0ZCW 9N7UD VU3CHE V26V. From February 11-17th, six members of the International Amateur Radio Volunteers (IARV) organization will visit the Sahara Desert as part of a technical aid program. They expect to be permitted to operate amateur radio with individual callsigns using the format, 5T5***, in Mauritania, as well as S07CRS and S07U in Western Sahara. The operation will be carried out mainly on CW, including RTTY. Send your QSLs for the 5T5 operations to each operator's home callsign. For the S07CRS and S07U operation, QSL to JA1UT. 8Q, MALDIVES (Update to OPDX.534). Mark Haynes, M0DXR, DXpedition Leader of the "Crystal Clear DX Group", informs OPDX that they now have their callsign confirmed for their summer operation as 8Q7ZZ. They will be operating for 10 days from the Maldives beginning late July. Team members are as follows: Mark/M0DXR, Tony/EA2AIJ, Fabian/DJ1YFK, Ryan/K3XC and Robert/M0TTT. Activity will be on all bands including the WARC bands. They now have a Web site up and running at: http://www.8q7zz.com They are still looking for sponsorship from companies and individuals. Anyone who can help will get promotion on the QSL card, Web site, the video they make, and in magazines. If you would like to help, please contact Mark via E-mail at: [EMAIL PROTECTED] 9L, SIERRA LEONE. Jerry Trousdale, K4ZIN, informs OPDX that he just returned from Sierra Leone this past week. On Tuesday, January 30th, the government re-issued his old 9L1JT license. He will be there again in April and will set aside about three or four consecutive days for a concerted, mini-DX-Pedition effort. Depending on how much equipment he can come up with to take, activity will probably only be 40/20/15/10 meters CW and SSB at this time. Jerry will be in Sierra Leone on business for about two weeks, and he should have his schedule set for the specific days of operation by the end of February, so he will update us with more details. Jerry states, "The horrific ten year war seems to have raised 9L1 on the 'most needed' lists so hopefully we can help out a bunch of hams in those days." QSLing will be via his home callsign K4ZIN. There will be no Web site for this one. 9N, NEPAL (Update). Charly, K4VUD (aka 9N1UD), informed the DX community this past week that the donations he took to Nepal a couple of years ago are still working wonders for the hams there. Their thanks go out to all who helped. On April 14, 2002, they will celebrate the anniversary of the late Father Moran's 9N1MM operations.

[DX-NEWS] DXCC survey for VK/ZL (& OC-136 stuff)
My apologies to those that this is not applicable to (most unfortunately). Some OC-136 info first For those who missed me on OC-136 my apologies. Only 262 QSOs were made mainly on 15m, however this is better than last years total of zero! There were quite a few hours spent calling CQ with no response. I am investigating a radio only oriented trip for the IOTA contest with a beam and amplifier so that we can be heard better. So far at least 5 operators are interested. THE VK/ZL DXCC SURVEY VK2CA, (Allan) has set up a DXCC most needed survey for VKs (soon to be ZLs as well I hope) on his web site. www.vkham.com It is hoped that the results can be used to better inform dxpeditions and dx clubs/sponsors of the different needs of dxers from the pacific. It also will promote that fact that there are active DX hounds down here! I know there are a few VK & ZL dxers subscribed to this list, so please take a few minutes to fillout the survey and hopefully improve your chances of working your most needed, and getting some DXped beams pointed this way more often. Good luck with the VP8s. not heard here despite being on leave for the 2 weeks.
