Bug description:
  [Impact]
The panel should have a print indicator as long as there are any print jobs
queued or processed. Currently, this indicator never appears, even though
printing works fine.

This is because the service that listens to CUPS fails to register its
D-Bus name (as of revision 68), which results in the panel component
not finding the service. The attached branch fixes this by making the
service register the name the panel expects.

  [Test Case]
Print a document from any application and check whether the print indicator
appears while it is printing.

  [Regression Potential]
Almost none. The print indicator is not working at all right now, and the fix
only touches that indicator.

  [Original Description]
even after lates updates still no printer notifications in the panel . I
checked and the package indicator-printers is correctly installed and the
printer prints without problems. But, there is no notification icons on unity
panel. I had no problems at all with 13.10 instead

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1304434] Re: indicator-printers not working on Ubuntu 14.04

2014-06-12 Thread Peter Sewell
Hi David,

Here's what I've done and it seems to have worked - fingers crossed.

I removed the indicator-printers using Synaptic.
Added the Pre-release Updates in the repositories.
Then installed the indicator-printers using Synaptic.
Then changed the repositories back to normal unticking the Pre-release Updates.
Rebooted
And it stayed working for me.

Hope that helps.

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1311316] Re: After locking screen there is no input field to type password for unlock

2014-06-12 Thread Alexander Kops
Here as well, fresh install of 14.04 on a Dell Latitude notebook (Intel
graphics) with the internal screen and two external screens being in use.
Happens randomly as it seems.
Only one time I didn't get password field but at least the cogwheel icon on the
top right, so I could select switch user.
But most of the time there are no user interaction elements whatsover.

Only too glad to help.

I think the problem was that we had installed it via the .deb fix file
but the official fix was in the unreleased repository which will
correctly install itself.

Can't believe that more people weren't affected by this bug in the first
place.

Anyway, all fixed now.

If a Dash search returns multiple files with the same name, there is
no way to determine which is the one you actually wanted (short of

To solve this, it should be possible to find out the full path of each

leaving the Dash. Ideally this would be possible without having to
make any additional clicks, for example the currently highlighted file

Bug description:
I use a Compaq cq40 running Trusty. If I lock the screen using the
Super+L hotkey, upon unlocking the unity launcher bar appears on the
screen. I'll have to press Super key twice to hide it again (Hitting
once brings up the dash home, hitting once again hides the launcher).
This is not observed if use the Ctrl+Alt+L hotkey. The following are
  the system details:

Bug description:
The shadow of the top Unity panel draws over full screen applications
that have controls visible when the mouse is moved.

  Steps to reproduce:

  1) Open an image in Image Viewer
  2) Double click the image to full-screen it
  3) Move the mouse to the top of the screen to access the controls

  Expected behavior:

Only the image and the Image Viewer controls should be visible

  Acutal behavior:

The Unity panel shadow is drawn on top of the controls at the top of
  the screen

  Notes:

This also appears in the Videos application, but does not in VLC or
gimp. I believe it is GTK applications with UI elements that only
appear on mouse movement (gimp's UI is static, and I believe VLC is Qt
  based).

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1329343] [NEW] Launcher icon invokes wrong executable after unlocking and relocking

2014-06-12 Thread Clearstar
Public bug reported:

Get Pycharm from http://www.jetbrains.com/pycharm/download/
1. run pycharm3.1 from shell (pycharm3.1/bin/pycharm.sh)
2. click Pycharm icon and lock it to launcher
quit Pycharm
3. Clicking icon now runs Pycharm 3.1
4. Unlocked Pycharm icon
5. run pycharm3.4 from shell (pycharm3.4/bin/pycharm.sh)
6. click Pycharm icon and lock it to launcher
7 quit Pycharm
8 Clicking icon now runs Pycharm 3.1

8 is unexpected - it should run Pycharm 3.4 as it is this program I
locked most recently to the app launcher.

9 Renaming the Pycharm 3.1 directory:
10 clicking the Pycharm icon now fails to start any program
11. Run Pycharm 3.4, and lock it
12. clicking Pycharm icon still fails to start any program.

ADDITIONAL SUGGESTION: right clicking on icon could bring up a

the icon will run.

Bug description:
  [Impact]
After upgrading from Maverick to Natty, I can no longer use the Super
(windows) key in Virtual Machine Manager. Previously, as long as I had the
Virtual Machine Manager console window in the foreground, I could press the
Super key and the start menu would pop up. Since upgrading to Natty, this no
longer works, and the search box appears in the upper left.

  Also see bug #934921

  [Test Case]
  (1) Install virt-manager and qemu-system, create and boot a virtual machine
  (2) while in the virtual machine, press the Super key
Expected Result: the super key acts inside the VM
Actual Result: the super key acts in the host and the Unity Dash is displayed

  [regression Potential]
This patch plays with key grabs and ungrabs: the most likely potential for
regression is (a) the existing grabs continue and no fix obtains or (2) the
grab is not resumed when returning control from the VM and the Super key does
not invoke the Unity Dash.

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1329399] [NEW] menu key problem

2014-06-12 Thread Diego
Public bug reported:

When the Menu Key is pressed (on the keyboard) it opens a context menu/app,
when i press it again (without closing the first context menu) it generates
another context menu, and doesnt delete the first one. It does NOT replace the

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1125442] Re: Always Visible and On Top Windows Steal Focus on Workspace Switch

2014-06-12 Thread Kip Warner
Unfortunately it looks like upstream has not expressed any interest in
supporting a feature to deal with this situation, so unfortunately I
don't think it's something we will be able to either. Supporting a
separate fork of Compiz is not really something we have the resources
for right now.

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1059374] Re: Using Adwaita, many widgets are drawn with a solid black background

2014-06-12 Thread Rankovic
Adding this to gtk-widgets.css will fix it for Numix and whatever
other themes are spawned from it:

GtkWindow {
color: @fg_color;
background-color: @bg_color;
}
GtkPaned {
background-color: @bg_color;
}
GtkEventBox {
background-color: @bg_color;
}

However, this workaround does not work for Zukitwo, for example. Disabling
overlay scrollbars most certainly is not a solution.

Bug description:
When I use the Adwaita theme, some widgets end up being drawn with a
black background after particular interactions. Here are two examples:

If I open gedit, by default I see a new black document. The notebook
widget is visible, and rendered correctly. As soon as I open another
document (no matter if I close the existing one first), the entire
widget starts being drawn with a black background.

If I open System Settings, then click the (Ubuntu) Online Accounts
panel, the box with the Remove account button has a solid black
background. If, instead, I open Online Accounts directly from its
launcher (run gnome-control-center credentials), everything is
rendered correctly: there are no solid black backgrounds until I click
All Settings and select the Online Accounts panel again.

This has been happening consistently on two very different machines,
both updated to Quantal from 12.04 using the upgrade tool.

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1329275] Re: missed call from x-ofono-unknown

2014-06-12 Thread Tony Espy
Can you guys include the image #s you're testing with?

I tried this on image #76 and couldn't reproduce it.

The exact steps I tried:

1. From my land-line, enter *67 ( the US equivalent of the UK's 141 )
2. Dial the Touch phone

- see the call alert which says Uknown

3. Decline the call

- check the message indicator and the call is also listed as Unknown

I also would say that as the snap decision displays correctly, and the
messaging-indicator does not, this is like a messaging-indicator bug,
and not an ofono problem. I've opened a new task accordingly.

@Dave were you able to get the Dialer app to also show x-ofono-unknown?

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1242112] Re: Shutdown/restart dialogue is not working if Cairo-Dock and its logout applet are running

2014-06-12 Thread Lee Hyde
Tom Beckmann's answer to Question #250144
(https://answers.launchpad.net/gala/+question/250144) as well as his
workaround for my similar issues with a modified pantheon session (using
Compiz rather than Gala) could well be enlightening on this matter.

I've haven't deployed the workaround yet, but I thought it best to share
here regardless.

I used #79 on mako. Sorry, I assumed that would be gathered as I filed
the bug with ubuntu-bug ofono. Will remember to do that manually in
future. We should patch apport to report the system image release.

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1305586] Re: Lock screen is unusable when some windows have a keyboard/mouse grab

2014-06-12 Thread Jon
I get this also, with 14.10 LTS as a host and 14.04 as a VirtualBox
guest. My solution is to programmatically minimise VB by selecting
another TTY (via Ctrl-Alt-F1) and running this script:

WID=`DISPLAY=:0 xdotool search --name \[Running\]`
DISPLAY=:0 xdotool windowminimize $WID

That gets the window ID of the VB window and then minimises it. I then
Ctrl-Alt-F7 back to the desktop, click on the sound/clock menu or
something (it seems to free up the focus) and then the password field
will work again.

It's a faff, but at least it works.

gnome-screensaver just refuses to lock in this situation, perhaps
unity could do the same unless it's possible to remove and readd the
grabs yourself, but I don't think XLib lets you do that (you can only
  remove your own grabs AFAIK).

  TEMPORARY WORKAROUND TO LOGIN AGAIN:
  Click on the guest session
Once the guest session is started log out
This takes you back to the lightdm session screen you can then login to your

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1298656] Re: hud-service crashed with g-assert-if-reached in GMenu call from qtgmenu::QtGMenuModel::CreateChild()

there hasn't been a single error report on errors.ubuntu.com for this
release yet.

Bug description:
  [Impact]

   * Unknown GTK application causes HUD service to crash by sending
  invalid menu updates via GMenu.

  [Test Case]

   * Not reproducable so far.

  [Regression Potential]

   * Worst case is that somehow HUD doesn't work on the desktop and
  phone.

   * There are, obviously, extensive unit and functional tests to verify
  this doesn't happen.

  [Other Info]

   * The patch will report the offending application to
errors.ubuntu.com with all available debugging information.

   * The indexes are now range checked before processing. As soon as a
window sends any invalid message it is blocked.

   * Further hardening around the memory management in QtGMenu has been
  carried out.

  * The change is not as large as it at first appears. The majority of
the diff is simply replacing Type* with QSharedPointerType. The rest
is the extra code for reporting the recoverable problem.

Bug description:
  Hi!

I'm trying to get a setup with two different Unity desktop sessions
running at the same time. One for the local desktop, one for a remote
desktop. This almost works, except that when starting the second
Unity session, the compiz process that belongs to the first one is
killed because of this code in /usr/bin/unity:

  # kill a previous compiz if was there (this is a hack as compiz can
  # sometimes get stuck and not exit on --replace)
  subprocess.call ([pkill, -9, compiz])

Commenting this line makes both desktop sessions work fine.

This kill is far too harsh. If you want to kill compiz, you should
make sure that you are killing it in the same DISPLAY as the session
that you are about to start, and not just every possible compiz
  process that is running.

Please consider either removing the kill or making it apply only to
  processes in the same DISPLAY.

  Thanks.

Bug description:
My screen just timed out and locked when a password prompt which had a
  grab was displaying.

I couldn't type my password or interact with the indicators.

gnome-screensaver just refuses to lock in this situation, perhaps
unity could do the same unless it's possible to remove and readd the
grabs yourself, but I don't think XLib lets you do that (you can only
  remove your own grabs AFAIK).

  TEMPORARY WORKAROUND TO LOGIN AGAIN:
  Click on the guest session
Once the guest session is started log out
This takes you back to the lightdm session screen you can then login to your
user session and it be in the same state

Bug description:
The shadow of the top Unity panel draws over full screen applications
that have controls visible when the mouse is moved.

  Steps to reproduce:

  1) Open an image in Image Viewer
  2) Double click the image to full-screen it
  3) Move the mouse to the top of the screen to access the controls

  Expected behavior:

Only the image and the Image Viewer controls should be visible

  Acutal behavior:

The Unity panel shadow is drawn on top of the controls at the top of
  the screen

  Notes:

This also appears in the Videos application, but does not in VLC or
gimp. I believe it is GTK applications with UI elements that only
appear on mouse movement (gimp's UI is static, and I believe VLC is Qt
  based).

Unity kills running compiz, even if it belongs to a different Unity

I came across this issue while testing an autopilot branch of mine.

The xpathselect server-side matching (as opposed to matching in the
autopilot python code) is not working as expected.

  To reproduce:
- Save this code as test_selection_attributes.py -
http://paste.ubuntu.com/7252495/
- (with the unity-autopilot package installed) run: `autopilot run
test_selection_attributes`

This script contains 2 tests, one passes to prove that it can get a
Launcher that has the monitor attribute of 0, the 2nd test attempts to
select the Launcher object with attribute monitor=0 and fails.

We see in the unity logs:
   - Unable to match 'monitor' against property of unknown integer type.

A bit of digging suggests that GetPropertyValue is returning an array
of values (Probably: Object type id, Value?) which means that, in
MatchIntegerProperty for instance, the values GVariantClass will never
be one of the Integer types.

A fullscreen window set to always on top hides the lockscreem.

  [Test Case]
  (1) Open a video in Totem
  (2) Right-click on the titlebar and set Totem to Always on Top
  (3) Make Totem full screen (eg. with the F11 key or clicking on the control)
  (4) Manually Lock the screen using Super+L
  (5) Notice that the lockscreen is hidden by totem.

If you don't lock it manually and just pause the video and let it lock
automatically this will show the same behavior.

The same behavior occurs with any application that can enter full
  screen mode.

[Regression Potential]Two cases may potentially source regressions.
  (1) windows that need to appear above the lockscreen, such as on-screen
keyboards,
  (2) applications presenting fullscreen windows using unusual or non-standard
toolkits. It is unlikely that regressions in either of these cases would be
introduced by this bug fix, but rather would be pre-existing problems not fixed
here.
  (3) Indicator menus might be not being drawn

14.04 LTS AMD64 Password/Keyboard Lockup after Unity Lock Timeout with
  VirtualBox VMs Running

Status in Unity:

Bug description:
I have replicated this bug on two different laptops, one at work
running mulitple monitors, one at home running a single monitor.

Symptom: When the Unity System Settings Lock Screen Settings activate,
and I notice the screen has gone blank and locked, I re-activate the
keyboard (usually left CRTL) and the 14.04 LTS Login Screen appears.

In all cases the keyboard is locked out and non-responsive, I can
click on the password box for my account and anything I type no longer
appears. I have to select Switch Account option with the mouse to
get a new login screen for my account and I can log in.

In some cases both the keyboard and the mouse input is locked out and
non-responsive. I can not select Switch Account and must power off
the laptop which of course is dangerous for the file systems of both
Windows VMs that are running and the host/14.04 LTS file system. I
have already corrupted the Windows VM file systems and had to repair
while testing this bug for repeatability.

Both laptops run the AMD64 version of Ubuntu 14.04 LTS.
Both have built in Intel Integrated Graphics, one laptop with the older
Ironlake, one with the newer ivy bridge.

Both are running Oracle VirtualBox but different version:

  1. Home is running the Ubuntu 14.04 Repository version of Oracle VirtualBox
(Currently 4.3.10_Ubuntu r93012)
  2. Work is running the Oracle downloadable AMD64 version of Oracle VirtualBox
Currently 4.3.12
  3. Both have the respective Oracle Virtual Box Extensions installed for
4.3.10 and 4.3.12
  3. Both are running Windows 7 64 VMs

Both 14.04 LTS have the following System Settings for Lock Screen:
Brightness slider - All the way left
Dim screen to save power - Checked
Lock - Switch to ON position
  Lock Screen after: 5 minutes
Require my password when weking form suspend - Checked

I have tested this with both a VM running (no other running applications were
tested) and with no apps running (fresh boot and login into 14.04 LTS unity
desktops).

  1. On fresh boot with no apps running the lock screen activates (after
5 min of no activity) and when I re-activate the laptops (usually
pressing left CTRL on keyboard) I get the login screen and can enter
my password successfully and the Unity desktop is presented.

  2. On fresh boot with a Windows 7 VM running the lock screen activates
(after 5 min of no activity) and when I re-activate the laptops
(usually pressing the left CTRL on the keyboard) I get the login
screen and the keyboard is locked and non-responsive and I can not log
  into my account.

Variations on 2. I can not enter password but I can use CTRL-ALT-F1, etc. to
switch to TTY and gain access to system.
Variations on 2. I can not enter password and can not use CTRL-ALT-F1, etc.
the entire keyboard appears locked out, but I can use mouse and select Switch
Account to force a new login screen to appear and the keyboard now works to
enter password.
Variations on 2. I can not enter password and can not use CTRL-ALT-F1, etc.
and I can not use the mouse, the entire input interfaces appear locked out and
I have to power off the laptops to restart and be able to log in to Unity again.

If I turn Lock: Off but leave Turn Screen off when inactive for 5
minutes set. If I have a VM running or no apps running, after 5
minutes the screen dims. I re-activate the system by pressing a key on
the keyboard (usually the left CTRL key) and the Unity desktop re-
  appears.

This bug only seems to occur when the Lock/Require Password when
  waking from suspend is active.

Bug description:
Sometimes left clicking the nautilus launcher icon doesn't bring up a
minimized nautilus window. Instead of restoring the window a new
instance of nautilus is showing up.

  Steps to reproduce:

  1. Open a nautilus window by clicking on the launcher icon.
  2. Navigate to a symlinked directory whose target is located on a different
harddrive (for example: a symlink to a folder on a sd-card).
  3. Minimize the nautilus window.
  4. Try to bring up that window again by clicking the launcher icon.

  What happens:

  1. A new instance (window) of nautilus is opened.
  2. There's no obvious way to access the first window again. The only way is
ALT+TAB.

  What schould happen:

If a nautilus window is already open and minimized clicking the
launcher icon should bring up that window. This was the behavior of
nautilus windows in Ubuntu 12.10 (quantal).

Bug description:
Hi, I locked my Ubuntu, then I unlocked it, opened DASH, then it lock again
without my will as I describe in bug report #1299705 .
The problem is, Unity is not rendered good in MacbookAir with sandy bridge,
because if I do this:
Lock screen - unlock - open DASH - then it locks without my will .
in MacbookAir it do NOT show me it is locked, all I can see it something that
left from DASH with black background, without left panel but WITH top panel.

I think this can be a security issue because in this point I cannot
know I am on lockscreen or not and so typing password can be
  dangerous.

I use Dell XPS 1640, running Ubuntu 12. Rhythmbox controls at unity

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1298656] Re: hud-service crashed with g-assert-if-reached in GMenu call from qtgmenu::QtGMenuModel::CreateChild()

2014-06-12 Thread Marcus Tomlinson
Seeing that we no longer receive error reports re: this bug, I consider
this fixed.

** Changed in: hud (Ubuntu)

hud-service crashed with g-assert-if-reached in GMenu call from
  qtgmenu::QtGMenuModel::CreateChild()

Status in “hud” package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Committed
Status in “hud” source package in Trusty:
  Fix Committed

Bug description:
  [Impact]

   * Unknown GTK application causes HUD service to crash by sending
  invalid menu updates via GMenu.

  [Test Case]

   * Not reproducable so far.
