  Some windows will grab the keyboard/mouse and when the lockscreen
  kicks in, this window will still have the grab and thusly, ou can
  enter your password in the lockscreen.

  [Test case]

  1. Open a window that will hold the grab, such as the ssh password dialog.
  2. Wait for the lock screen to activate.
  3. Enter your password to unlock the screen.

  [Regression potential]

  This particular fix doesn't fix all cases, but does fix it for some.
  That said, no new regressions are expected.

  Original Description:

  My screen just timed out and locked when a password prompt which had a
  grab was displaying.

  I couldn't type my password or interact with the indicators.

  gnome-screensaver just refuses to lock in this situation, perhaps
  unity could do the same unless it's possible to remove and readd the
  grabs yourself, but I don't think XLib lets you do that (you can only
  remove your own grabs AFAIK).

  TEMPORARY WORKAROUND TO LOGIN AGAIN:
  Click on the guest session
  Once the guest session is started log out
  This takes you back to the lightdm session screen you can then login to your 
user session and it be in the same state

Thanks for your report. The strings you see are fetched from the Czech
locale, though, not from translation files, so this is not a translation
matter.

Setting a minimum width for the calendar might be an appropriate way to
fix it.

  A maximized application's title bar does not merge into the menu bar
  once a user has performed Super + W (window slide). Note that if one
  does not do Super+E, then the bars to merge together. However, once
  Super+E has been performed, this bug persists for the lifetime of the
  windowed application. If the application is restarted after doing
  Super+E, then the bug is gone. Thus, it seems like Super+E introduces
  this bug for the lifetime of the windowed application.

  Expected behavior: Maximized window's title bar is merged into menu bar.
  Observed: Does not occur after Super+W is performed.

This exact same behaviour has been reported in Bug #919801, which was
origunally filed for Ubuntu 11.10 (sic). It's a bug that affects many
users but never seems to attract enough resouces to get solved. Please

On Android I get one Sound and then 2 osd announcements

On Ubuntu desktop under Evolution only on OSD announcement is made and

  Global menu in general (not only in Unity) is very unergonomic on large 
screens (see the attached screenshot) because if you have a small window 
somewhere near the low right corner you have to move the cursor all the way up 
to to panel to reach the menu. I understand why the global menu was used for 
the netbook edition (it saves space and most windows are maximized), but since 
Unity is intended to be for the desktop edition there should be an option to 
switch to the traditional position of the app menu. It would be welcomed by 
many desktop users. Please try to find a solution for it that works.

  A commonly suggested solution is:

   [ ] Global Menu only for maximized windows
  The default is usually suggested as either the first (on) or last (on only 
for maximized windows).

  When I press Alt plus any cursor key in quick succession, the HUD
  erroneously appears. This steals focus and disrupts the workflow quite
  severely. This was much worse in earlier Unity versions, 5.8 already
  made this a lot better. But this case still remains for me.

  When I leave some time (0.5 s or so) between pressing Alt and the
  cursor key, this does not happen. But when pressing them almost at the
  same time, the bug happens. I can reproduce this 100%, so feel free to
  ask for any additional debugging info.

  The problem is not that I hit the Cursor key before alt. This proves
  it:

  It does not happen with other Alt key combinations, just with the
  cursor keys. I also saw this happen quite a lot with Ctrl+Alt
  (controlling screen grab in KVM) or Ctrl+Alt+Cursor (changing
  workspaces), but I cannot reliably reproduce those.

Bug description:
  In the policykit sense, an active user is one that is using a physical 
console, and so has rights to shutdown the system etc.
  Remote users, like NX users, LTSP users, XDMCP users, or users that use X+VNC 
scripts to remotely log in, are correctly not considered active, and thus don't 
have some privileges like shutting down the system.

  The problem is that indicator-session is using the policykit meaning of the 
word active,
  instead of checking for currently logged in and working users,
  i.e. it thinks that only one user can be working on a PC at a given time.

  From src/backend-dbus/users.c, line 593:
ret-is_current_user = uid == p-active_uid;

  So if I'm logged in from a thin client, or via NX, or via XDMCP etc etc, 
indicator-session doesn't match the uid of its own process to tell me who I am, 
but just relies on the matching of the active user.
  Thus I can't see my username if I enable show-real-name-on-panel, I don't 
see the dot that means current user in the menu's user list etc.

  A solution would be to use getuid() in the code above.

Does this mean this will never be fixed? We're still waiting for the option
to keep the menus permanently visible...

I have a few Ubuntu installations (a lawyers office in particular) where
users are complaining about not finding the menus. Will I have to
completely uninstall the global menu?

  Global menu in general (not only in Unity) is very unergonomic on large 
screens (see the attached screenshot) because if you have a small window

Unity is intended to be for the desktop edition there should be an option to

Don't know why, but there seems to be Tab button problem too. Playing
Valiant Hearts under Wine I noticed that pressing Tab doesn't perform
anything. But if I run this game on another X server - the Tab button
opens inventory as it supposed to be.

  After upgrading from Maverick to Natty, I can no longer use the Super 
(windows) key in Virtual Machine Manager. Previously, as long as I had the 
Virtual Machine Manager console window in the foreground, I could press the 
Super key and the start menu would pop up. Since upgrading to Natty, this no 
longer works, and the search box appears in the upper left.

  (1) Install virt-manager and qemu-system, create and boot a virtual machine
  (2) while in the virtual machine, press the Super key
  Expected Result: the super key acts inside the VM
  Actual Result: the super key acts in the host and the Unity Dash is displayed

  This patch plays with key grabs and ungrabs:  the most likely potential for 
regression is (a) the existing grabs continue and no fix obtains or (2) the 
grab is not resumed when returning control from the VM and the Super key does 
not invoke the Unity Dash.

FWIW, attached is a workaround. Simply put, I alternate the name of the
icon which is written out (appending a 1 or 2 depending on each
alternate) and that fools the set_icon method to update the

Application indicator icon only changes after mouse click

Bug description:
I have an application indicator which shows the moon phase/orientation
as its icon (along with a text label). When the indicator does an
update (several times per hour), the icon is recreated (as an SVG
file) and so the icon changes over time.

Recently, the icon is not showing any change unless I mouse click the
icon (or label). I'm on Ubuntu 14.04 64 bit and my indicator uses
Python 3 and Appindicator3.

I have attached a sample script which is representative of the issue
and shows an icon which should change every three seconds. The icon
itself is an SVG file and shows a numerical count, starting from zero
and increments every three seconds.

I have tested on Ubuntu 12.04 and Xubuntu 12.04 (via VirtualBox) and
the icon DOES change on each three second update.

Testing on Ubuntu 14.04, the icon does NOT change UNLESS I click on
it. If I change the label text on each update, the icon WILL also
change, but only if I don't repeat the SAME text for the label.

FYI: I initially asked this at http://askubuntu.com/questions/490634
/application-indicator-icon-not-changing-until-clicked but have had no
response.
