[Dx4win] Filtering and DXCC Award Submission

2002-04-08 Thread Wendell Wyly W5FL
I had worked with Michael off line and his question is different than yours.

I see no reason why marking the first card received would be beneficial when
in fact, it is the card that was submitted and checked by ARRL that is
important. Until recent years, they did not even keep track of the band
that was submitted.

In most cases that I am aware of, the cards are usually submitted when a
little over 100 are confirmed and for most of us, this was a paper
submission, followed up by yearly submissions since that time.

Since you have probably submitted many of the 293 cards, you probably simply
need to mark them as checked by mode, band, and mixed, if that is the DXCC's
that you have applied for. Since you have 5BDXCC, this implies that you
will need to mark over 500 bands also.

Since each time you make a submittal, ARRL now mails you a nice printout of
each of the modes, bands, calls, etc, that they have on their records, the
real problem usually comes down to making this OFFICIAL record, match the
CHKD records in DX4WIN. I have not come up with a good way to do this, but
after a little work, it is fairly easy to maintain.

Is it that only Michael and I are the only ones interested in knowing if
DX4WIN can sort confirmed cards by first or last confirmed? I haven't seen
any replies to his or my message, did anybody see them?

I just double-checked the manual and the help files and I'm pretty sure
Bill's right, there is no way to do this currently.

I may be hallucinating, but I think I remember that at one time you could
tell the program, when compiling an award submission, to select a
particular qualifying QSL rather than simply choosing the most recent. My
record-keeping is bad enough so that I can't count on finding either the
first or the last card received. But if I find an 80m 3B9 in the box, for
example, I'd like to be able to decide to submit it, without hunting for
the other one the program "knows" is there.

So, how about allowing the operator to choose from among most recent,
oldest, and user-selected -- perhaps the latter could be done by inserting
a special code into the QSO notes(?).

2002-04-08 Thread Vlad UA6JD
Here is update for DX4WIN5.03 mgr database from 425 DX NEWS#570
and correction about AH7G QSL (Thanks Todd,W9YK).
You need copy mgr data and save as text file ,for
example,"570dx.txt"
Then add it to DX4WIN usual way:File|Databases|QSL Managers
then
File|Import QSL manager data|open "570dx.txt" Then SAY "NO"
(VERY IMPORTANT SAY - NO) then OK and SAVE&EXIT.

[Dx4win] DX4WIN wish list

2002-04-08 Thread David M. Monfried
I've just finished the arduous task of submitting 775 QSLs for various DXCC
awards and one change in the Submission feature would have made the job MUCH
easier: Would it be possible for the Submission sort to be by Prefix (in
DX4WIN language, that's DXCC Entity) order, rather than by Callsign? As an
example, the card for 3E1DX would appear under HP Panama, rather than under
3E1.

For those of us who file cards in country order, this change would make
pulling those cards for DXCC submissions more efficient (if still not
pleasurable!).

Exactly! I'd like a box that says "USE THIS ONE FOR AWARDS" or something to
that effect. You don't want to have to only mark confirmed those cards that
you keep in the bank vault. ;-)

You can use the F2 key to update the confirmed status when you receive
cards in the mail. It can also prompt you if you want to mark this card to
be submitted in the future (i.e. you pick, not let DX4WIN decide). I do
this all the time, but I don't remember how I set it up.

I think this must be enabled by the "alert when confirming new band or
mode" checkbox on the F2 page of the preferences. Presumably, it won't
work when the card has already been registered as received, and you then go
back to develop a submission. I suppose you could change the status back
to worked or mailed, and then hit F2 and answer yes, but that seems like a
lot of extra steps.

You can select with a double click every country marked with a c

Fwd: Re: [Dx4win] Filtering and DXCC Award Submission

2002-04-08 Thread Mike Rhodes
Ok, I think I'm getting confused (imagine that!!) but it seems to me that
manually setting the 'submit' flag takes care of what both of you are
looking for. If you have run a submission function for DXCC but have already
submitted and received credit for some Qs that are not marked, then DX4Win
will make its best guess as to which ones you want to submit. Its logic is
that you are most likely to be able to find the most recent QSLs received so
that is why it starts from today and goes back in time for the search. If
you have Qs marked for submission but they are not the right ones, go into
'reports', 'change award flags' and clear the submit flags for the group you
do not want (i.e., DXCC MIXED, etc.). Then go in and manually mark the ones
already approved for DXCC as 'checked'. NOW you can run a new submission and
it will flag the MOST RECENT Qs for submission on your next go-round.
Remember that none of these flags will stick until you save your log.
Therefore, I would suggest going thru and clearing the submit flags and then
save the log. Next, go thru and mark the ones that are already approved for
DXCC and save the log. You may want to run a report to verify you caught all
the submitted ones. NOW, start playing with the manual and automatic submit
situations. If you get results you don't like, just close the log and reopen
it and you are back to the last saved version. Great way to learn what you
will get when you try different functions. If you are really concerned about
messing something up, make a backup of your log file (better yet, the entire
SAVE' folder) to another location or a floppy and you will have to try
REALLY hard to hurt yourself.

Hope this helps.

Dave,
That is the exaact reason I file my QSLs by callsign instead of Country.
Makes it much easier to pull them for a submission.
However, I too often have the need to order the contacts in some different
form. Simplest way I have come up with is to save the report as a file and
then import it into a spreadsheet program and sort it any which way.

Cabrillo isn't meant to be a long transfer standard, that's what ADIF is for.
So convert your log to ADIF then import it into DX4WIN.

WT4I has some Cabrillo tools, one of them may be an ADIF convertor.

[Dx4win] Manager Addresses update#6

2002-04-08 Thread Vlad UA6JD
Here is update for DX4WIN5.03 addresses database from last
issue of 425 DX NEWS #570 bulletin.
You need copy adr data and save as text file ,for
example,"Adrupdate#6.txt" .
Then add it to DX4WIN usual way:File|Databases|Manager Addresses
then
File|Import Addresses|open "Adrupdate#6.txt" Then SAY "NO"
(VERY IMPORTANT SAY - NO) then OK and SAVE&EXIT.
You can also use for update instruction in DX4WIN Manual.
