[Dx4win] Dupes

2003-02-21 Thread W0YG Charlie Summers
My question is why are there dupes in the log? Is this asking the developer
to provide a software fix for a potential operator error?

The procedure for fixing dupes is quite simple. Not sure why there is such a
problem with this.

Hello!

I have the same problem with lost spots from internet.

Just found that I don?t have any dxwin.put file. Simply copied the file from
6.01 to my 6.02 catalog and it works.

You will note that the DX4WIN.PUT file comes and goes. It is only
there when there are spots in the DX spot window. If you exit DX4Win
without clearing the spots the .PUT file remains with spots. If you
clear the spots and don't exit DX4Win the .PUT file remains. If you
clear the spots and then exit DX4Win the file is renamed to
DX4WIN.~UP, thereby effectively deleting it. You can delete the ~UT
file and the .PUT file will be recreated the next time a spot is
placed in the DX spot window. At least that's the way it works here.
BTW, I use the DX-Telnet interface.

In Preferences | Packet1 | make sure you have the options box labeled
"Backup DX spots" checked. That will save the spots up to the number in
the Preferences | Packet2 | scrollback capacity for DX spots box. 73,

Sure wish the separate COM port selection for PSK31 PTT and CW keying
are restored as well as fixing the Kenwood "VFO B" non=activation for
split frequency spots..The upgrade took me two features

Rick,

I don't think this is a correct or a fair statement. The fact that YOU
can't
do something, which clearly is not a problem to most anyone else does
not
constitute a "great weakness" on the part of DX4Win.

I am somewhat curious how your log got so full of dupes that this is
even an
issue. The two things that come to mind are that another program (or
import)
duplicated a bunch, or there was some cockpit error. The function of a
program does not include protecting you from yourself.

[Dx4win] DX Spots Window

2003-02-21 Thread <[EMAIL PROTECTED] (Roger Borowski)
Mel and others, Jim-AD1C informed me that checking the "Backup DX spots" box
doesn't have anything to do with this problem and the spots should be saved,
regardless of this box being checked, when you exit DX4WIN. That wasn't
happening for me, and apparently for some others. It started working after I
checked the box, but I don't know if unchecking the box now would cause them
to stop being saved as I have reverted back to using V5.02 due to other yet
unresolved issues in V6.02. that make it more difficult to use with Kenwood
radios as well as those who have CW keying and PSK31 PTT on different COM
ports. 73, -=Rog-K9RB=-

I just went in and unchecked the "Backup DX spots" box. And, it went
back to clearing, i.e. deleting the .PUT file, with spots still in it
when I exited DX4Win and restarted.

[Dx4win] DX Spots Window

2003-02-21 Thread Mel Martin
I must confess I am unclear on what checking the box "backup spots" is
supposed to do... as they seem to be backed up unconditionally when I close
DX4Win... perhaps Jim or Paul can clarify this...

It almost seems that DX4Win is not saving your spot file on closing DX4Win.
Ted... Did you check and see if when the backup box is checked that spots
arriving between the last backup interval and closing DX4Win are saved?

[Dx4win] DX Spots Window

2003-02-21 Thread Jim Reisert AD1C
I installed DX4WIN in Demo mode at the office.

With "Backup DX Spots" unchecked, the spots are NOT saved. The installation
includes a default packet spot file from Paul, it reverts to the original list
of spots when I exit DX4WIN and start again.

I do not understand at home why it appears that my spots are kept. I had
turned "Backup DX Spots" off because I didn't want the PC writing to my backup
ZIP drive every 2 minutes with the last saved spots.

It seems like there may be a bug here. The spots need to be saved when you
exit DX4WIN, regardless of whether "Backup DX Spots" is checked or not. This
is certainly the way 5.03 used to work.

I will check a little more at home this weekend to see exactly what's happening
in the shack. If I've made anyone crazy, I apologize. I'll stick to callsign
to country mappings in the future! :-)

[Dx4win] DX Spots Window

2003-02-21 Thread Jim Reisert AD1C
Mel, I may not have been clear about this last night.

"Backup DX Spots" is supposed to use the backup timer to write the unsaved
spots to disk at regular intervals. Just like it does for the open log. I
asked for this a while back, so that a DX4WIN crash would not delete all the
spots that were only live in memory. You would only lose any unsaved spots
since the last backup interval.

However, it seems that Paul may have broken something in the latest versions,
which cause the spots to NOT be saved to disk when you exit the program, and
"Backup DX Spots" is not enabled.

I have it "licenced" at the office and it DOESN"T save the spots... it
works fine at home

The office setup is Win98... and has nothing configured, ie radios,
soundcards, TNCs etc.

The home stup is XP and has everything configured...

It appears that every time a spot is received the backup runs. Or, at
least that what it looks like it's doing.

[Dx4win] DX Spots Window

2003-02-21 Thread Erik Hyllander
Thanks to everybody answering my original question about saving spot info.
It seems that there are two opinions
1. it works without problem
2. it doesn't work but can be solved checking Save DX Spots in
Preferences/Packet1

When I compare v 5.03 and 6.02 it works OK in 5.03 without having checked
Save DX Spots.
In 6.02 I can get it work IF I check Save DX Spots. I have set update to
every 10 min and it is interesting to note that if I have spots coming up
in the window say after only two minutes after start of DX4WIN and exit ,
they are still saved and appear when reloading DX4WIN again.

So in my view there is bug here introduced with v 6.02 (or 6.01 for that
matter).

It would be fine to have Paul's opinion on this matter, please.

[Dx4win] Newbie Questions & Assistance Request!

2003-02-21 Thread Lust Auction Services, LLC
Hi

de K9APW\\

Using version 6.02 --

New user as of this week --

Entered MANUALLY ("off line") 800++ old entries -- but now find that only
400 of them were actually 'saved' to the log file after exiting the system --

Any idea where the other 400 entries not shown in the log book might have
been saved to?? (I simply clicked on SAVE in the FILE menu??)

How do I sort and view the logbook alphabetically by CALLSIGN??
(All my cards are in alpha order but were not entered in that same order!!)

Thanks for any help -- I have 5000++ manual entries to make and after spending
all day today entering, I find that 400++ of those entries made apparently
did not
actually "save" -- they were appearing on the log on the screen as I
entered them,
but are not there after exiting and restarting the program???

Thanks in advance --

Dick, K9APW

Best guess: you never actually pressed F10 or [enter] after entering QSO
data in order to save the QSO. Did you simply keep tabbing away and
replacing callsigns? Were the QSOs actually added to the log, i.e. did
you see them appear in the logbook window?

Right-click anywhere in the Logbook window, then Select Report and in
the Sort Index pulldown select Callsign.
