Re: [Dx4win] WPX window and WAS window

2009-08-08 Thread Jim Reisert AD1C
Yes, I correct my message as well. The "box" does move in 7.07, but
DX4WIN can't determine the state. I tried spotting both a previous
QSO from my log (so DX4WIN would already know the state), and putting
the state in the comments field. In either case, the title bar of the
window did not name the state.

Perhaps an improvement for some future version would be to cross-check
the spotted station against the log, and try to determine the state,
county, grid and IOTA, even if those are not in the spot itself.

My previous message may have been misleading; the WAS cannot update
based on packet info, but should adjust the location of the band/mode
selector.

[Dx4win] WPX window and WAS window

2009-08-08 Thread Matt Cassarino
Hello all

Does anyone use the WPX window or WAS window ? I haven't seen any posts on
this about 8.01.

I find that

1.the band box is no longer changing with incoming spots in the WAS window
and data is not appearing as to what Ive worked. Also WAS = shows nothing in
the title bar.

2. the WPX data is not appearing either though the band box does shift
around with spots coming in. Also WPX= shows nothing in the title bar.

A new spot comes in and where 6 and 7 automatically looked up where I had
it worked and confirmed, it shows all the boxes for band and mode with
nothing in them.

I reinstalled 7.07.02 and it works properly.

While this is going on, DXCC , WAZ and Field windows are working fine.

The WPX colors in the spot window are fine in 8.01.

Thanks

[Dx4win] 60 Meters in Version 8.01

Finally got around to installing v 8.01 today. A bit more painful than most
upgrades of DX4WIN for some reason. Guess I will need to look through the
archives for some of my issues, but one I do not recall being mentioned so
far: is anyone else having problems displaying 60 meter status in the WAZ
and Country windows? It's also not in the Reports. I have 60m checked in the
Station tab of the Preferences. Not sure what I am missing.

Some strange things with the CW totals, too, but I haven't dug into that
enough to ask an intelligent question.

Paul tried to do something shortly before 8.01 was released, but ran
into a programming issue he could not solve.

If you use the VE7CC user program between DX4WIN and your cluster
node, then you don't even have to type in the callsign when connecting
DX4WIN to the cluster. Plus the VE7CC program will do auto-reconnect
if the connection is lost.

Re: [Dx4win] Same station different operators and changed QTH

2009-08-08 Thread sm0mpv
I agree with you Mel, that it is excellent that changes in
Notes for this call update all. I use the ctrl E and add
several lines for those stations that have been working with
several operators and at different QTHs. As you I often
indicat several operators as multi. It is not possible to
use ctrl E in the Name and QTH field.

However, now when there is a new possibility with the Name
and QTH fields i think it would be nice if those could stay
with the QSO and the latest ones will be sugested in those
fields. If I got a QSL card and add the information from
that I suggest that all contacts with that station with
empty fields after that time wil be filled with the
information added. If there is any informetion in any of
these two fields in contacts made after the time you have
got confirmed by a QSL it should not be overwritten. The
program should not change any field prior to the one added.
You could then use the Notes for this call field to
summarize all changes for the station. So every time you
have contact with the station you can see the history in
that field. I hope this make some sence

[Dx4win] 8.01 Group Selection - Date Filter

2009-08-08 Thread Steve GW4BLE
Under version 7 the Group Selection for a specific date range worked as:

Group Selection
Filter -> Selection
Click on the Add button, change the name, enter the start/end dates, click
the
Date Filter box, then Update, then OK.

Now, under version 8.01, I can't get any further than 'change the name', I
am
Unable to enter start/end dates.

Anyone else experience this?

What I am ultimately trying to do is just export part of the log as ADIF for
a specific date period.

That's about 195 more than I had... I see your problem ;-)

For now... just convert your existing file and take care of the
extracting names and frequencies when Paul has had a chance to refine
the extraction process.

Re: [Dx4win] Same station different operators and changed QTH

2009-08-08 Thread Mel
I can't speak for Paul... but the "problem" you identify is actually one
of DX4Win's strengths... All the information is in one place. If you
correct one occurrence, you correct them all. I would hate him to change
that.

What I do... and it works for me...

If it is just a matter of recording the operator... I put Club or DXped
or Spcl Envt in name depending on what is most appropriate...

I put Op-name in the QSO Notes (Not Call Notes)

In the situation where QTH is also variable... I think that's less
common... also put QTH-location in the QSO notes.

Just to review... Call notes (and now Name and QTH) are linked to a
unique callsign... you change one and you have changed them all. QSO
notes are unique to each Contact.

Also, don't forget Ctrl-E opens up both notes into a multi-line memo...
so you can store a lot of info.

...Mel

The other situation I encounter... since I've been at this a while is
the re-assigned call problem. In this case I put the Historical info
into the CALL Notes (Not QSO Notes) and the new name and QTH in the
appropriate fields. This instantly update ALL references to the same call.

One workaround could be to integrate the VE7CC module into DX4Win ?

I imagine the same way that you call up Buckmaster or whatever - fire up an
executable that is VE7CC ?? Just automate the workaround !

[Dx4win] Same station different operators and changed QTH

2009-08-08 Thread Claes "Mel" Carneheim
I have a problem and it is not new for version 8.01.

I am QSL manager for a scout station and we work a lot of scout stations.
They could have different operators and change QTH from year to year.

For example, SK0XA.

1969 Lasse Stockholm

1972 Bengt Farsta

1975 Sten Huddinge

1984 Marie Farsta

Operator changes are common with other club stations too and there are some
examples of reissued old call signs. People move and change QTH but keep
their callsign.

If I add a new operator and a new QTH to an existing the new one overwrites
the old.

Is it possible to make the program suggest the old Name and QTH but if
changed the old is still kept with the old contacts and the new is saved
with the new name and QTH? If then the station is worked again the new
operator and QTH will be suggested.

Thanks for a very interesting update

Dear Mel,

that problem is given as in our setting in the number notation is comma and
not a separator as informed me Paul KK4HD.

Re: [Dx4win] Ver 8.01 issues

2009-08-08 Thread Tonno Vahk
Mel, that is what I am saying - in that case it does not double but I cannot
use it because importing into new empty log file does not bring the Groups
along. All the Groups are missing and I don't know how to get them to come
along from the old file. They are the same kind of "hidden" info like Notes
for This Call. You have both or you have neither it seems...

When you re-import you log into an empty file from a DXQ/DXN set... it
should not double up...

I tried Guy's solution also. I had been using | as a separator... but I
also had many records with 3 fields... result was a 6 solid hours of
"fixup"... not something I ever want to do again!

[Dx4win] Invalid value

2009-08-08 Thread PY2YP
I know that is not needed to import the DXL file from the version 7,
just copy it to the SAVE directory and it is done, but... I exported the
DXL file using the 7 version, opened the 8 version, created a brand new
log file and imported the log from DXQ & DXN files. Using the version 7

I need 3 countries in 20 meters, say: P5, FT5W and KP1. The version 8.01
said that I only need FT5 and KP1. I carefull checked the differences to
find out that the "I" flag in the DXCC fields (Mixed, band and mode)
were not flagged. Somehow, the importation procedure ignored the invalid
value in the ValidDX field in the 7 version.

To be sure about that I did generate a report, using the 7 version,
producing 51 invalid QSOs; none of them does appear in the version 8. Of
course I can manually enter the "I" value in the proper fields, which I
will do, but I think there is a little problem to be fixed.

[Dx4win] PSK31 Won't Key K3

2009-08-08 Thread Bud Governale, W3LL
Version 7.07.02

If both CW and Radio ports in DX4WIN Preferences are changed to None,
then PSK31 can be set to Com 5 (the K3 port) and it will key the K3.

However, this leaves no control of the radio (K3) and is not a viable solution.

It test just proves, I think, that DX4WIN is not allowing itself and PSK31 to
use
the same radio port.

Does anybody have PSK31 working with the K3 radio?
If so, what am I doing wrong.
Help please from anybody.

1. The radio is a K3. The DX4WIN radio selection in preferences is "Elecraft K3
X4".

DX4WIN in radio preferences has Com 5 set for the radio. Both DTR and RTS
are checked.

2. I unchecked DX4WIN Radio Preference DTR and RTS and selected PSK31 PTT
control setting.
Still not keying the transmitter.

3. DX4WIN CW is set for COM 5, DTR Line CW Keying, RTS Line PTT Control.
This setting works for sending CW.

In PSK31 Settings I have keying line set to DTR and PTT set to PTT control.
No transmitter keying with this setup.

If I change PSK31 PTT to Com 5 I get the "device already open" error.
I think this produces a conflict with DX4WIN claiming Com 5 and PSK31 also
trying to claim Com 5. This is just a guess
by
me.

I still don't know how to key the K3 transmitter in PSK31.

1 what radio do you have ?
If not needed uncheck DTR and RTS
Select ptt control in psk31 setting
Setup dx4win-cw via same port like radio is
With correct setting of keyline and ptt for dtr and rts

2009-08-08 Thread Tony McClenny

Bud,

If someone helps your or you finally master the problem, please share as I
am experiencing the same and cannot figure it out. I have tried to
suggested software, which supposedly supports multiple software programs all
using the same COM port with no success thus far.

Previously, (Kenwood 570D) I used a Rigblaster pro and that allowed
everything to work with a single COM port (CW, PSK, SSB and RTTY). Thus far
I am making slow progress with K3 (wonderful radio).

The delimiter in or IN works perfect

 So MEL IN STE-MARTINE works 100 %

And will populate Name = MEL and QTH= STE-MARTINE

When you do multiple QSO´s operations - Set Name and Qth

Re: [Dx4win] Use of F8 problem.

2009-08-08 Thread Paul van der Eijk
Milos,

I think (I'm guessing) that it has to do with the number notation.

When you start a filter, and do not want to enter a value for the
frequency, the field shows up as 0.0 and is therefore ignored. This also
means you cannot search for the value 0.0 either, but that is another
problem.

When your international setup is for the period as the separator, the F8
works fine. When it is a comma (in your case I guess) the 0,0 is not
seen as zero and becomes part of the search value(s) making the search fail.

Another thing todo!

Re: [Dx4win] Ver 8.01 issues

2009-08-08 Thread Mel
When you re-import you log into an empty file from a DXQ/DXN set... it
should not double up...

I tried Guy's solution also. I had been using | as a separator... but I
also had many records with 3 fields... result was a 6 solid hours of
"fixup"... not something I ever want to do again!

"new" QSO and an "old" QSO. Did you open the correct file?

Re: [Dx4win] DX4WIN.MAS2

2009-08-08 Thread Tony McClenny
John,

Place the downloaded master file list into your DX4WIN folder. Load DX4win
and click on "Window" then "Master Calls". Right click on the "Master
Lookup" window and select "Convert". The "Open" window will display your
DX4win folder. Select the file "MASTER.DTA" by double clicking on it and
DX4win will open the file, convert it for use with DX4win and display
another window, "Information", which will indicate "Conversion finished
44927 Calls". The first time you enter a "Callsign" you will see the
"MasterLookup" window display a list of similar callsigns. Hope this helps
you.

Re: [Dx4win] DX cluster hookup?

2009-08-08 Thread Dave Sharred
Here Here Mel !

There are many features that if you analysed it you could do with "just a
few mouse clicks"; and they all add up.

- rig control / mode selection - is a nice to have in a logging programme;
but we accept that the user is not lazy for wanting it (I bet someone used
Erkki's argument 15 years ago !

- Rotator control
- entering time automatically

What about in DX4WIN "operator preferences" - they save you having to
configure the programme every time you use it; for your laziness!

We accept these niceties; and the same should be true of other features that
would enhance the programme!

In Win Test, which was the example I used, the choice of which cluster to
use etc is still down to the user; it is merely anther preference that he
sets up.

I think about it as "operator convenience"; rather than laziness. I have
enough things to do with my PC before I want to operate!

Re: [Dx4win] Ver 8.01 issues

2009-08-08 Thread Tonno Vahk
It does not work this way Guy!

I am also in trouble with the delimiter as I have used space between name
and QTH.

I have been trying to find way to export the log to change the delimiter but
it is impossible with DXQ-QXN export-import because the Notes for This Call
gets doubled! Meaning the old values are not replaced whatever you do but
anything you import on top of them are added with "/".

Even if you export your log, delete ALL QSOs after that and import all the
QSOs back then your Notes for This Call get multiplied by two with "/" in
between. Crazy.

And it is not possible to open a new log file (thus getting rid of the old
Notes... data) and import all QSOs there because then you also lose all the
Groups list.

Thus as far as I have no idea how do change delimiter automatically in ADIF
file with my domestic tools like excel etc I don't see any way to accomplish
this task without the program being modified to let the user choose the
delimiter, better yet logic similar to Excel Text to Columns.

What I really need is to be able to split at the first space. As there are
often spaces in QTH description (like near Rome or alike).

So is there an automatic way to just bring up dx4win and have it

Thanks in advance for any help.

Re: [Dx4win] DX cluster hookup?

2009-08-08 Thread Erkki Heikkinen
Hmmm,

It takes three clicks with the mouse to connect to your favorite
cluster.

I cannot see any big human energy savings if it is done automatically.
And then it will be much more difficult to choose another cluster.

I am lazy, too, but not THAT lazy.

Re: [Dx4win] DX cluster hookup?

2009-08-08 Thread N8NN
I raised this issue several years ago and got a nasty rejection from the DX4WIN
email support. Soured me on DX4WIN for years. In my opinion it is programming
not worthy of a commercial product. The BandMap and moving the last used
cluster to the top of the list are improvements. Starting the cluster in
DX4WIN is a chore that shouldn't have remained for so many years. Apparently
the DX cluster facility in DX4WIN is a very low priority.

There are free DX Cluster programs available with more features and a better
interface. And yes, I do use other programs for the DX Cluster.

Re: [Dx4win] DX cluster hookup?

2009-08-08 Thread Dave Sharred
Hi Dennis, Jim & all;

I raised this point a while ago (again!!); and am happily hooked up top AR
Cluster, which I have configured to my home node.

I still think that this is too many key strokes and ops; and my opinion is
still that it should be automated, just like running Win Test. Here; once
set up, it can be forgotten about; it just runs in a Telnet window.

Mine is just an opinion, I am not the software writer; guess I know what I
like and what I find a bit of a drag...

Still to get round to updating to V8; been very busy, so am happy to let the
dust settle for the moment. and then jump in..

In 8.01, whatever node you select gets moved to the top of the list for
next time.

There is no way to do an automatic connect. You still have to enter
your call. Please see the section called "Tips" here:

Re: [Dx4win] Bandmap radio frequency update speed v8.01

2009-08-08 Thread Art - W6KY

The radio shouldn't have anything to do with the updating of the bandmap.
It all comes from the cluster connection.
I have a PC in my office, no radio, bandmap works fine. Keeps me
updated on that pesky DX!

Any solution to speed up the bandmap ?

I am Using IC-756PROIII with 19200bd and com port poll rate 1ms with
microham microkeyer. Bandmap seems to be quite slow compared to ones I am
used to ( win-test and N1MM )

Otherwise this bandmap is excellent update for DX4WIN, very readable and
informative with colour coding

[Dx4win] PSK31 Won't Key K3

2009-08-08 Thread Bud Governale, W3LL

Re: [Dx4win] Bandmap radio frequency update speed v8.01

2009-08-08 Thread Mel
No. D4W requires polling and 1ms is impossible... an Icom radio cannot
respond that quickly. About 500ms - 1000 ms seems to be ideal for most
Icoms. Older radios should be even slower. Also I notice that there are
issues with invalid data being picked up by the band-map if C-IV
transceive is on. You must turn it off.

Perhaps one day Paul will support asynchronous updates with Icom
allowing the use of C-IV transceive... but for now we have to poll. With
Async communications, bandmap updates could be much quicker... though
I'm not really sure why it's important.

Re: [Dx4win] DX cluster hookup?

2009-08-08 Thread Jim Reisert AD1C
In 8.01, whatever node you select gets moved to the top of the list for
next time.

There is no way to do an automatic connect. You still have to enter
your call. Please see the section called "Tips" here:

[Dx4win] DXCC summary report

2009-08-08 Thread Dick Grolleman
Hello All

I do have version 8 working, and I'm very pleased.
But I do have one problem. First thing I did, see if my DXCC totals are
correct.
In Mixed it looks ok. But doing a check on
Reports|DXCC|Summary and then mode PHO or CW, it gives the result for Mixed,
not the mode I selected.

Is this a bug? or do I miss something?

[Dx4win] DX cluster hookup?

2009-08-08 Thread Dennis Petrich
Hello all,

This questions is regarding automatic hookup to a DX cluster like AR User by
VE7CC? Right now when I bring up dx4win I have to click the connect button
at the bottom of some window and then select which dx cluster I want to look
at from a very long list and then enter my call, hit enter then click on
SH/DX to see the DX. dx4win knows my call sign, my name, my qth, I can tell
it what cluster I want, but maybe it already do this and I just don't know
how to use this feature??

So is there an automatic way to just bring up dx4win and have it
automatically connect to VE7CC ( or what ever dx cluster I previously
select)??

Thanks in advance for any help.

Dennis, k0eoo

Re: [Dx4win] Bandmap radio frequency update speed v8.01

2009-08-08 Thread Ernie
Speaking of the band map.

After I saw it mentioned, I searched around trying to activate the band
map. After an extended period, I finally figured out that I had to right
click on the packet spots window to find the band map menu item.

[Dx4win] Bandmap radio frequency update speed v8.01

2009-08-08 Thread Olli Tuppurainen
Any solution to speed up the bandmap ?

I am Using IC-756PROIII with 19200bd and com port poll rate 1ms with
microham microkeyer. Bandmap seems to be quite slow compared to ones I am
used to ( win-test and N1MM )

Otherwise this bandmap is excellent update for DX4WIN, very readable and
informative with colour coding

2009-08-08 Thread ON4AOI
Hi All,

I updated my webpage with different MAS2 files.
I made a few that I think are good starters for the moment.
Don´t ask me to make more or tell me that there are a few calls
Missing because everyday these listings grow...

After everybody has read the manual about how to create there
Own Specific members list they will be removed from my page
And replaced with listings that can be used to create your own.
Users that have member-lists (preferable in standard TXT format)
That can be used by ALL DX4WIN USERS can always send them to me.

Available MAS2 files
LoTW members only
LoTW & eQSL members
LoTW & eQSL & DIG members
