[Dx4win] New Solutions for solving PW1 CI-V problems
NOTE: This is a cross-post from the PW1 reflector, and I apologize if you're getting two copies. However, DX4win users with PW1s will find fixes for CI-V packet problems PLUS the DX4Win "flashing MAIN/SUB VFO polling" that causes the PW1 to flip between bands when using the newer Icom radio definitions. After successfully testing Jim's, K9JM, Arduino hardware approach to fixing the familiar deficiencies in the PW1 amplifier, I decided to attack the problem in software and have written a small utility program for CI-V packet management. The good news for PW1 owners is that there are now (at least) four ways to prevent PW1 disasters. Each works. Each approaches the problem differently. You now have four choices for protecting your expensive amplifier - at least one of them should fit your requirements. The four solutions are described briefly in a new "Solutions" chapter of the "Riding the CI-V Bus" articles, which you can find here: http://www.k8ut.com/tiki-listpages.php The utility program, CI-Vfilter.exe, is barely a v1.0 version and has only been tested by myself and one other ham. At my QTH, CI-Vfilter works successfully with N1MM Logger, DXLabs Commander, and DX4Win - but should work with any logging package. I'd welcome feedback from hams who choose this approach to taming the PW1. You can find the CI-Vfilter instructions and download info at: http://www.k8ut.com/tiki-index.php?page=CI-Vfilter+Utility -larry (K8UT) __ DX4WIN mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/dx4win Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:DX4WIN@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html
Re: [Dx4win] IC 7800 WITH DX4WIN
Oms, I also use DX4Win with a 7800, and when operating split my transmit frequency (SUB VFO) is recorded in the DX4Win "FREQ" field and my receive frequency (MAIN VFO) is recorded in the "Notes for the QSO" field. With the >File >Preferences >Radio definition set for the radio with version 2.30 of the Icom microcode, the MAIN and SUB VFOs flicker every two seconds (the default polling rate of DX4Win), because the software selects SUB, reads the SUB frequency and mode, then re-selects MAIN. >"difficult to have the sub VFO capturing... " What type of problem are you having? Is the log showing incorrect frequencies or modes? As a test: 1. Open >Radio >Set Frequency 2. Press the key so that DX4Win begins constant (2 second) polling of the radio 3. Watch the frequencies in the Set Frequency window If the VFO frequencies "jump around", then your CI-V packets between radio-and-PC are getting corrupted. Something is wrong with your CIV bus. [Dx4win] RES: IC 7800 WITH DX4WIN PP5EG
Hi Larry Interesting: I have on my DX4WIN versio 8.05 several ICOM 7800 micro codes, i.e Firmware F2.30 500 Hz filter, but then the DX4WIN does not talk with the radio I´m using the micro code ICOM and works perfectly except the sub reading. Do you have any idea? 73 Oms -Mensagem original- De: Larry Gauthier (K8UT) [mailto:k...@charter.net] Enviada em: sábado, 14 de abril de 2012 10:19 Para: py5eg; dx4win@mailman.qth.net Assunto: Re: [Dx4win] IC 7800 WITH DX4WIN Oms, I also use DX4Win with a 7800, and when operating split my transmit frequency (SUB VFO) is recorded in the DX4Win "FREQ" field and my receive frequency (MAIN VFO) is recorded in the "Notes for the QSO" field. It excludes K & VE stations from being spotted AND It supplies spots only from K & VE stations AND It excludes all spots from a "certain" spotter. Hope this helps users on newer AR-Clusters. 73/GL, Bob K8BL P.S. The exclusion of the K & VE stations being spotted is to avoid seeing Skimmer spots of domestic CQ'ers. It's easy to turn them back ON during domestic Contests. From: R.T.Liddy Subject: Re: [Dx4win] Ignoring Screen spots from spotter To: "N9AWJerry" Date: Thursday, April 12, 2012, 9:36 PM Jerry, The Node I use has VERY flexible filters. I have had the "certain" spotter's un-hearable spots completely eliminated. The Node allows me to filter by Continent, Spotter, Country, etc., etc., etc. AND, the Node has Skimmers which can be turned on/off at will and set to only spot by numerous criteria. It's pretty new and absolutely great!! Everyone should give it a try!! It's KQ8M.NO-IP.ORG It's run by Tim KQ8M who is a long-time DX-er and Contester and he bends over backwards to accomodate the Users' needs. Tim will help you set up a Filter customized for you. Once you have it, you can possibly use it on your regular Cluster. 73/GL, Bob K8BL --- On Thu, 4/12/12, Jerry, N9AW wrote: From: Jerry, N9AW Subject: [Dx4win] Ignoring Screen spots from spotter To: dx4win@mailman.qth.net Date: Thursday, April 12, 2012, 9:10 PM If someone knows how to set this in AR-Cluster I would very much appreciate a response to get this setup.
