[Dx4win] QSO Look Up anomaly

2012-11-29 Thread NN3V_6
I am running DX4WIN V8.05 on Windows 7 Home Premium 32 bit.

Recently, an anomaly has shown up.

When I search for past QSOs using F8, inconsistent look-up results show up.

I normally have the desktop simultaneously showing the logbook window, and
the "Same Callsign" window.

When I press F8 to enter a call sign for look up, the "logbook sorted by
date" window will show one result, and the "Same Callsign" window will show
a different result, simultaneously.

For example, I was looking for past QSOs with KD3WK who sent me a paper QSL
card.

The "Same Call Sign" window incorrectly returned a QSO I had with KD3DK. The
window showed only this particular QSO.

But in the "Logbook sorted by Date" I found the QSO I had with KD3WK
(correct), and the report of the QSO I had with KD3DK that was showing in
the "Same Call Sign" window.

Note the slight difference in the call sign letters.

This is happening with many station call signs.

Any ideas?

2012-11-29 Thread ALAN ZACK
In your SETUP PARAMETERS/SEARCHING CALLSIGN what setting are you using? If
it is not set to EXACT give that a try.
I understand what you are saying and of course it is not supposed to do
that. In about 15 yrs of using DX4WIN I have never seen that behavior. I
have the same setup as you (WIN 7/DX4WIN ver 8.05)

Good Luck, Alan, K7ACZ

There are four different kinds of callsign matches. It sounds like
you have "Fuzzy" selected in your preferences.

Having said that, if your QSO window is showing a particular call as
the result of a search, that same call/QSO should be highlighted in
both the Same Call and the Logbook windows. If it is not, then
something is wrong.

Re: [Dx4win] QSO Look Up anomaly

2012-11-29 Thread Kjell W. Strom

Why would one want to do that? The DX Cluster is meant to
provide information on operations that may be of special
interest to fellow users, not to be a copy of my logbook. If
everybody did that, the DX Clusters would be overloaded and not
so useful.

Use manually Alt-A with discretion!

[Dx4win] Spot all QSOs was: Re: QSO Look Up anomaly

2012-11-29 Thread Pete Smith N4ZR
N1MM Logger has the capability of automatically spotting all S&P QSOs,
which is good during contests (SS on Sunday afternoon) but I agree with
others that this is not desirable for ordinary operating, and certainly
not for QSOs where you are the one calling CQ!

For spots, please go to your favorite

Yes! I've been running it for several weeks now, and I love it. it's
less distracting when DX4WIN isn't on the monitor I'm currently doing
real work on.

In your preferences, on the Screen tab, make sure you check "Leave all
windows in original position". Otherwise when you exit DX4WIN and
re-start, the windows will all be moved back to the default monitor.

Also be careful doing things like updating graphics drivers while
DX4WIN is running. It can re-size or move the windows during the
update. Even though Windows 7 no longer makes me reboot after
updating my NVIDIA drivers, I always try to make sure that any
critically-sized program (like DX4WIN) is closed, so windows don't get
re-sized or moved.

[Dx4win] Posting LogBook entries

2012-11-29 Thread R.T.Liddy
I agree that there is a lot of "over-spotting" taking place over the Cluster
Network. We've seen a lot of  "TNX for the nice QSO, 73" spots lately
which seems pretty worthless to me. Why would the World care about
somebody thanking for a QSO which they just thanked over the air?

Anyway  I'd like to be able to place a station on my BandMap that I just
worked but didn't spot since it was common or of no concern to Cluster
Users. In CT, I do it with CTRL-ENTER. I'd like to do it in DX4WIN without
spotting it on the Cluster.

Is that capability there now and I haven't found it?

If you are connected to a CC cluster node, you can use the "dxtest"
command to send a spot that only you will receive. Because it looks
like any other spot, it will be added to your band map.

But you'd have to do this via the DX Spots window, not via ALT-A.
