But this is not the first time that the question has been asked of updates, so 
F6EXV right to ask again.



I have been a user / supporter for some 20+ years now, even though I'm not so 
active other than contests, or I never have used new data modes, I follow with 
interest the comments. I also compare features that I see in my contest logging 
software, with that of DX4WIN.



I think the last paid software upgrade was a small tinker round the edges, but 
what is telling to me is some visual functionality was lost, namely support of 
skins. I am pretty sure that the original team was more than just Paul;  it is 
possible that he doesn't have the capability for major upgrades ?



Last point, and a surprise in store for me - ZL2IFB made a comparison 
spreadsheet a while ago, which is still available for downloading and 
contributing if you so desire ( try G4IFB.com , under Logger32, which was his 
choice of programme).  So I just downloaded it to my tablet, and scored DX4WIN. 
   He scored Logger32 as 75%;  I scored DX4WIN as 70%,  so maybe there are no 
great gains to be had ? Needs looking at later.

there could be some other reason that we don't hear from Paul with this 
covid-19 situation.
I have been always in contact with Paul since version 1.02 via phone and other 
technology

with a few click, importing from wsjt(-x) can be done also very easy off line.

Are correct in my log.
Why you may ask.
I made a lot of rigfiles where only standard modes can be used/selected not all 
the new modes
That grow every day, infact these all count for Digital mode. If for example 
dx4win receive
mode = 1 then depending on the rigfile it know that the mode is USB. If it 
receive mode = 0
then it know it is LSB but if it receive mode = 5 (USB-D or data) then how it 
has to know it is FT8
and not JT65 with submode JT65b? At that moment the program needs to act 
different
and depend on a "txt" that comes in and not on a value
In my opinion this is not done in 123 to make it fool prove.

For me the DX4WIN is one of the best logbook I have used.
I have been using it for many years and it meets my expectations.

But I also understand the colleagues who ask for some improvement, according to 
the new technologies applied to radio.

I think Paul's silence does not help in this debate, perhaps if Paul indicates 
the reasons why he does not make these updates, many of us might understand it, 
but as I say, his silence does not help.

What if I am clear, that for me is one of the best Logbook, I have used it for 
many years, and what I have for sure, is that I will continue using it.

We use smart phones, the latest technology in transceivers, PC and all
kinds of new measuring devices, we use the internet and DX cluster.

So why shouldn't the desire for further functionalities be a matter of
course?

I have been using dx4win for more then 25 years and have made a number
of friends take a look at dx4win. Many still use the software today.

But you shouldn't forget that we paid for the software and the major
updates weren't free. It's all OK.

But we must also be allowed to express wishes without being addressed badly.

I don't know Paul or his personal situation. I hope that, like all of
us, he will survive this COVID-19 situation without damage.

However, it would be possible for Paul to think about opening up and
getting more supporters into the boat under his direction. This is the
only way the HAM community has become so large, good and modern.

Many other very good ham software developers go away.

For example N1MM, HRD, DXLOG and many others. Even if some of this
software is freeware, I would have no problem paying for updates.

So it must be allowed to discuss the topic here, and to express wishes
about "our software DX4WIN". That is also Ham Spirit!

Here you can download a report of QSLs received. The report file is in
ADIF format.

*Show QSLs received since:*(-MM-DD)
*Include QSL details:*(May make the downloaded file a lot bigger.)
*Include QSO station details*("my" station location fields)*:*(May make
the downloaded file a lot bigger.)
*Your Call Sign:*

And if you import in DX4WIN you will asked about you want the dupes or
not. So it can helpful if you download from 01.01.1900 till today and
not allow dupes - you will be surprised :-)

I start DX4WIN and log i have used lass session; DX Cluster comes up 
automatically and run  well. All OK


I do in Menu File a save. All OK

i go to Menu Help, click "Check for Updates" , all are selected and i 
start.

Updated starts - download the files aso.

After Update is done DX4WIN close and do a restart

Now DX4WIN starts with an old log version and Packet Cluster not start 
automatically.


I load the right log and start cluster by hand - all run well.

I close DX4win and start again - DX4WIN use now the right log and 
cluster starts now automatically.


So it's a small bug in in restart routine of DX4WIN - not a big one but 
a bug

Bruce, give my regards to your friend at ARRL and say him he has mayne 
no idea of modern data management and IT.


I think he his not involed in database operation/programming. If he want 
learn a bit then he can contact Michael from Clublog and ask him how he 
solve this as a private person with much less money the the rich ARRL DXCC.


As i told before, many progs doit and i never have read or seen any 
comment agaist from ARRL

Jim's tool is a step in right direction - but only a step (tnx Jim). But 
the question is: why not DX4WIN have not a full LotW function.


I wish DX4WIN can work like clublog or many other modern logging software.

They can upload to LoTW in real time - if the user like - and also 
download confirmed QSO from LoTW. Mostly with only pressing one button.


The LotW exchange function in DX4WIN is still on lowest possible level.


I like "my" DX4WIN - i am a very longtime user - but as most of us user 
have done too: we check from time to time also other logging software; 
what they have for functions ...


Better LotW functions are on top of my DX4WIN wish list ( it's close to 
xmas )

This bug exist also in other software - using MMTTY .

N1MM+ i have to touch MMTTY windows and do a small resize

In last contest WAE Rtty i using as 2. decoder 2-Tone (both decoder 
parallel) and he did a much better job in decoding

Mike, i wrote that i have this set

Every time I start DX4WIN cluster starts too, only if after an update 
procedure was started and done then DX4WIN do a restart and then cluster 
not start here. Must start cluster by hand.


If i finish DX4WIN and start soft again cluster starts automatically

That's all. No a big thing :-)

The drive C: is a very restricted device and USER should use for _any_ 
own software installation any of the *program* directories



Most of the drive is restricted and "owner" is Windows.

Thanks to Jim for his great work - but is it the guy how gets the money? No !

Why then every year they offer a upgrade for money? Why they not fix bugs like 
ADIF2 export, main Export function ( manager cant exported),
real LotW functions (import/export), label print functions and 
They dont have a ear for customer needs. DX4WIN was state of the art !
They offer only cosmetic - next will comes at Dayton, believe me: Version 8 - 
(what strange version numbering for inimpressive bug fixing)

 ... its will be slowly over -  It's a great pity !

Do it step by step and start with COM1 and TRX only. If this runs do the next 
step.
PRO2 or PRO3 is equal - important is the ICOM number. PRO had 5C; IC7800 6A; 
PRO2 64 and PRO3 6E.
But if you using PRO2 at DX4WIN you have to use in TRX also the PRO2 code = 64 
( you can select these in TRX menu )
Or you switch it in DX4WIN TRX menu to 6E. Then no changes in TRX.

DX4WIN has not. All other software has also not!

Have send you yesterday a PM with some hints for a Virtual Port software. Thats 
the only way!

Remember: a virtual port is not a piece of hardware - its virtual!
Example:
A virtual soft runs on a PC, a PC has only COM1 (hardware) - virtual soft 
creates a COM2 and COM3(virtual).
You adjust DX4WIN to COM 2 and HRD to COM 3.
If now DX4WIN communicate with COM2 - virtual soft switch internal all trafic 
to COM1
If now HRD communicate with COM3 - virtual soft switch internal all trafic to 
COM1

Virtual soft double your COM 1 !! VirtualVP create up to 4 virtual ports.

Hello Bryan,

maybe you dont know, but all (most) packet cluster are connect together via 
internet.
Why you want connect to AB5K and then send a spot to OH cluster. Sorry, its 
stupid.
If you connected at AB5K and you send a spot on AB5K - some secondes later your 
spot is also on cluster in JA, F, OH, DL
- anywhere worldwide !! That internet. Try it !

[Dx4win] YU6AO Montenegro only accepted after 04/07/2006

Dont worry, there will be end of july a large international dxped (OH2BH, 
DL6LAU; DL3DXX and further 20-30 OP's )
Target is to make 200k QSO's :-

They will build up 3 camps and work 160 - 2m. Maybe you have a better chance to 
get also your QSL from this group.

I think only quality can be the right one ! And i think Jim does a great job.

My 2th source for manager datas, after Jim's database, is http://www.qslinfo.de 
.
Lothar is a QSL info hunter over 15 years. And his database you can find also 
the date when the info is stored.
For some contest callsigns you can find more then 10 entries.
