In my 706MKIIG manual I have crossed out "4E" and written in "58." I use 58 with 8.02 and it works. [Dx4win] WINKEY and DX4WIN Question
I've just gone back to using WINKEY with the DX4WIN keyboard, and it is working very well. However, when I change speeds using the + or - commands, the increments (decrements) are in steps of 5 WPM rather than 2 WPM as with the basic DX4WIN keyboard. Is there any way of changing the size of the steps so that they are smaller? Re: [Dx4win] SignaLink USB
Mel and others, I have had an almost identical problem. I am using an external USB sound card for the digital modes, and I had wanted to also use the internal sound card on my motherboard for DX announcements and other computer applications. I tried any number of settings in the control panel 's SOUNDS menu in which either the internal card was declared, the external card was declared or one was declared for voice and the other for audio and vice versa. I could never get both cards to work simultaneously. I finally gave up and use the external card for the digital modes and forgo all other computer sound sources. The external card is declared in the control panel and I have selected card number 0 in the DX4WIN preferences. If I declare the internal card in the control panel, then it works and the external card doesn't even when I switch DX4WIN to card 1 for the digital modes. [Dx4win] Using CW Keyboard for Two Radios
I have been using DX4WIN's CW keyboard via LPT1 for years. I would like to be able to use it with a second radio, and it seems that I can do so without having to build a second interface. However, I am mystified by this instruction in DX4WIN's CW help file: Radio 1/2 signal: When a LPT port is selected, the Radio2 line will be active when the second radio is selected, and inactive when the primary radio is selected. When using the LPT port to control the DX Doubler 2-radio selection (LPT pin 14), you must select that LPT port in the CW preferences page, even if you are not using the LPT port to send CW. Otherwise the polarity of pin 14 will be reversed. It seems to imply that when the second radio is selected (as the radio that DX4WIN is controlling) that pin 14 is activated and the CW keyboard is switched to the second radio. I can't visualize how this can be done even if I were using two separate interfaces. I also haven't the vaguest idea what "DX Doubler 2-radio selection" means even after searching for it in the HELP files. If anyone can explain what's meant here and how to use the keyboard with two radios, I'd be most appreciative if you would illuminate me. Re: [Dx4win] Printing QSLs with Alternate Call (Different from Licensed Call)
Guy and Allan, thanks for your reply, but I think I didn't explain myself well. The "greeting" part of the REP/LAB menu refers to the closing lines of the QSL, and I know that I can also print the group info if desired, which also appears at bottom of the label. I have already declared the IT9/K2XX QSOs as a separate group and imported them into a separate log. Normally when a QSL label is printed, it starts the label with "K2XX confirming QSO with" and then the call of the recipient station is inserted. What I would like to do is replace "K2XX" with "IT9/K2XX" in the preceding phrase. Changing the greeting menu entries doesn't affect this phrase. I have some DX QSOs that I made with a portable prefix (IT9). I would like to print my QSLs so that they say "IT9/K2XX confirming QSO..." You must use the latest version of the DX4WIN country file that contains the new entity FJ, Saint Barthelemy 2. You must use release V6 or later of the 2007 Marathon Scoresheet. 3. The 2007 Marathon scoresheet has both Day and Month columns. Depending on your Windows and/or DX4WIN settings, the file output from the conversion program may have those two columns reversed. Versions 1.10 and newer of the conversion program should fix this automatically. 4. You must cut/paste the countries and CQ Zones into the marathon spreadsheet SEPARATELY. The instructions on the web site tell you how. 5. You don't need to create a date filter, you can simply use F8 to filter your log starting 01 January 2007. If you have any trouble with the program, please let me know ASAP. Remember, the submission deadline is 31 January 2008. 73 - Jim AD1C -- Jim Reisert AD1C/?, <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>, http://www.ad1c.us

[Dx4win] Second Sound Card for PSK31
This is an old thread, but I have just gotten around to trying to get a second sound card working. Unfortunately, I have not been successful. I am trying to use an external (Audigy) USB sound card together with an internal card integrated with my mother board. I would like the to use the external card for digital modes and the internal card for other audio applications. I have selected "0" for my digital sound card in the DX4WIN Control menu as suggested below. However, unless I specify the external sound card for both "record" and "playback" in the "Audio" menu of the "Sounds and Audio Devices" section of the XP Control panel, the external card will not function in the digital modes. When the external card is so specified, the internal card does not function even though I have selected it in the "Voice" menu of the "Sounds and Audio Devices" section. I have tried various combinations of these options, but I can't get both cards working simultaneously. I wonder if anyone has any suggestions on what I might be doing wrong here. (BTW, I have observed than when one makes a change in the sound card selected in the DX4WIN Control menu, the PSK31 window must be closed and reopened before that change takes effect.) 73, Joe K2XX Jim Reisert AD1C wrote: > This is the way other Windows apps. designate the soundcard(s) > > I think "Default" in DX4WIN corresponds to the -1 setting. > > 73 - Jim AD1C > > --- Bill Walker <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > > >> Jim: >> >> I am not understanding what you mean by -1, 0, -1, . . . [Dx4win] Using Com Ports greater than Com 8
If you have XP (and presumably other versions of Windows), you can go into the device manager or control panel and access your COM port menus. In there you can rename your COM port to whatever number you choose. There's a dividing line between the receive and send areas of the window. Place your cursor over it while left clicking and holding. [Dx4win] how to connect to cluster from packet window?
Tonno, what I do is simply go into the packet window and hit the RETURN key three times. Since I have my preferred node at the top of the list of packet nodes, I am connected to that node after the third RETURN. When it asks for my logon call, I hit a function key that sends my call followed by %M and I'm logged in. That is the fastest way I know of connecting, but maybe somebody knows a faster way. 73, Joe K2XX Tonno Vahk wrote: > hi, > > I am trying to make it comfortable to connect to cluster over TCP/IO after > starting DX4WIN. [Dx4win] Printing Group Names 7.02.14 (Mea Culpa)
I had previously complained that when printing QSLs the group names were not printing despite my using "%%" in the PREFERENCES-REP/LA setup menu. The "%%" symbols were printing instead. I just discovered that there is a check box in the initial PRINT QSL LABELS window that controls whether group names are printed. I don't know in which version this change occurred, but checking it seems to have solved the problem. [Dx4win] QSL card wastage
I recently posted the following. Is it part of the same problem? 73, Joe I have been having problem with v. 7.02 and QSL labels. When I set the label parameters in Databases/Labels, some of the conditions will not stay set. Specifically, if I uncheck "COMMERCIAL" and check "LINES" and set the callsign font to bold and then save those conditions and then reopen Databases/Labels, they've returned to checked, unchecked and regular respectively. In addition, when I include "%%" in the greeting in order to print the group name, the label is printed with actual "%%" and not the group name. Does anyone know what I'm doing wrong? Thanks for the input Erkki. I like your wishlist request too, and I'd also be interested in that Windows utility. However, it seems to make sense to not have to memorize a whole different set of keystrokes when one goes between WinKey and the stand alone DX4WIN kbrd. I am forwarding this message because I forgot to copy the DX4WIN list when I originally sent it. I wonder if anyone else has an opinion on the differences in keystrokes for the DX4WIN keyboard when going between with and w/o WinKey? 73, Joe Larry, thanks for your input and I was meaning to comment further on this subject. Actually, the changes that were made at your request seem to have nothing to do with the differences. (Frankly, I didn't know about the additional prosigns until I reread the HELP files when I started using WinKey with DX4WIN. I don't know in what version they were added. I had wanted them too, but had made do without them. I am using them now.) I went back and checked the N4PY program with WinKey, and the prosigns are different again there. Carl uses: - for BT + for AR $ for SK ^ for KN * for AA However, I believe Carl still uses the Orion internal keyer even with WinKey, but I'm not sure. (I am in the middle of reviewing the WinKey dox.) It may be that the prosigns are not fixed in the WinKey firmware. If so, it would be a major improvement for DX4WIN if the prosigns for both keyboard routines were made identical. Then one could switch between them without much thought. 73, Joe Larry Gauthier (K8UT) wrote: > Joe, > > I may be responsible for some of the CW keyboard confusion. I just got version 7.02 working with Winkey, and it seems to work FB. However, the single key shortcuts for the CW symbols are different from the original DX4WIN keyboard. "!" and "*" are inoperative. "=" and "@" still send BT and WR, but ">" sends SK, "<" sends AR and ":" sends KN. Also, the speed changes with "-" and "+" are 5 WPM rather than the normal 2 WPM for DX4WIN. I presume that these features are "hard wired" into the WinKey firmware. [Dx4win] Announce DX Question...another issue
I have observed that if one sends a spot and the spotted station's frequency is below the first KHz of the band bottom, the spot is not displayed on the cluster. If I skew the station's frequency so it reads out at 1.0 KHZ or higher above band bottom, the spot is displayed. At least I have observed this quirk on 40M CW using both an Orion and FTKMP. We were down to the wire getting 7.01 finished and tested this year. Plus once it was finished, there was NO TIME to start an upgrade process while the boys got things ready for Dayton. 73 - Jim AD1C -- Jim Reisert AD1C, 7 Charlemont Court, North Chelmsford, MA 01863 USA +978-251-9933, <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>, http://www.ad1c.us From [EMAIL PROTECTED] Mon May 23 14:21:18 2005 From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] (Jim Reisert AD1C) Date: Mon May 23 14:31:42 2005 Subject: [Dx4win] Version 7.01? [Dx4win] QSL Printing Endless Loop w/6.04
Kenth, that doesn't work for me. You must be using a custom label setup. I'm using a standard 8160 and the dimensions, etc. are fixed. However, I did play around and by selecting custom label 1 and printing; then returning to 8160, I was able to print normally without the counter showing up. Why this worked, I have no idea. I'll see if it continues to work. Paul, is there a bug somewhere? 73, Joe Kenth Johansson wrote: > Joe, > I had the same problem. I just tried to print some QSL's for the first time since upgrading to v. 6.04. However, when I attempt to print, I get the message "generating pages" with a counter that endlessly increments. I have a vague recollection of having seen this problem before in earlier versions, but I can't remember the solution. I'd appreciate any help. Also, I notice that there is a new selection box in the Preferences>QSO screen labeled "Label." I can't find any reference to it in the HELP file. I think it relates to eQSL?ng, but I'm not sure. [Dx4win] HamCall with DX4WIN 6.03
Tony, I recently had a similar problem. I had 6.02 on a laptop and a desktop and was using the QRZ database, which I had copied to my hard drives. Everything worked FB on the desktop, but I kept getting a QRZ32.dll file not found error. I tried everything known to man to get it to work on the laptop, but without success. I then considered reinstalling DX4WIN 6.02 on the laptop, but decided to just upgrade it to 6.03. After the installation, everything worked flawlessly. Paul had advised me that he knew of no problems that would be corrected by a reinstallation, but it did indeed work. I vaguely remember one other incident where I had to reinstall in order to cure a problem. I don't remember if you can do that within the Trlog but try to go to "Post contest" section of Trlog and check it out. If that doesn't work you can download a separate ADIF converter and I believe you can find a link on the Trlog website. If you can't find it there do a search with Google or any other search engine and search for "ADIF converter". If that doesn't work either contact me directly as I believe I still have the ADIF converter in my PC. However, until now, I have never attempted to print QSL labels with the program. I am, in fact, more than four years behind in QSLing.:-( It's time to catch up! I am using ver. 6.03 Since one must start somewhere, I have chosen as simple a starting point as possible--a single contest log (2003 CQP) imported from Writelog. There are only 44 QSL's to 32 individual stations to be printed, and all are direct. I wish to print both QSL labels and mailing labels. All QSO's appeared correctly in the Print Preview, but there were two problems. The first problem encountered was a non-WYSIWYG printer, whose page image is a bit small. Not knowing how to adjust focus on an HP G95, I have compensated for this by use of the Custom1 label selection, modifying horizontal and vertical pitch of an Avery 5160 label to slightly expand the page image. (If there is a better method, I would like to know it.) The second problem is the reason for this message--I am not getting mailing labels. Since all the QSL's are in response to direct mail--no managers--I have entered each station callsign into the QSL Manager box in the QSO window for each QSO, and I have checked Print QSL Managers in the Intermediate Print Window. I think the problem lies with my databases. I am using GOWIN Issue 286 and a several year-old version of RAC,loaded on the hard drive. These display results when the QSO window is active and F3 is pressed---but the display is weird. Three windows come up: a GOWIN window with the data, a black DX4WIN window under it--and a duplicate GOWIN window under that! [Dx4win] EXT DATA Mystery
I have been successfully using the RAC (Flying Horse) database on my hard drive for several years to look up call signs through DX4WIN's EXT DATA routine. This weekend I picked up a copy of QRZ's current database and attempted to do the same thing, i.e copy the database to my HD and access the callsign info from the HD. For some mysterious reason that doesn't work. Although I have declared C:\program files\qrz ham radio\callbk as my data directory in the preferences>EXT DATA menu, I get a "database not found" error. However, if I put the original CD ROM in my ROM drive, it returns the proper information. In other words, despite my declaring the C: drive as the data drive, DX4WIN is getting the data from the CD ROM and refuses to access the C: drive when the CD ROM is removed. I switched back to use the RAC database on my HD and that works fine. Does anyone know what's going on here? When you "submit" for an award (for example, Reports | DXCC | Submission), each QSO that is selected for that award will get its Submitted box automatically set. When a confirmation from the award manager comes in, you can manually change Submitted to Checked, or use Reports | Change Award Flags to change them all at once. While there are Submitted flags on, you will see them in the listings and summaries. A group number, 001 is the default, is set for each QSO. You have the ability to create other named groups (the numbers increment) for you own tracking purposes. For example, if I go into the CQ WW RTTY 2004 context, I will create a new group for that and make it active. Each QSO I log will contain that group number until I turn it off, or the dates I've specified for that contest expire. Later, if I wish, perhaps, to export just those QSOs, I can use the group number to select them. Other folks use other calls while traveling to other countries and use a group number to keep them, "separate." The Valid QSO box can be set if the DXCC committee decides that the station you QSOed is not a valid one for that country. Perhaps he was a pirate or did not obtain his license from the correct authority, for example. This box checked will cause your QSO to be ignored for awards. [Dx4win] [Fwd: Capital Crime (External Data)]
Ernie, this is a message I sent to the list back about four years ago. It may be the source of your problem. Hope it helps! 73, Joe Several months back I asked for some help when I no longer could access my QRZ CD ROM through DX4WIN (v4.07). Although it had worked without any problems up to that time through several versions of DX4WIN, I suddenly started getting a "database not found" error. I never did receive any useful suggestions and the problem went unsolved for six months while I was QRT. I just got back on the air and nothing had changed, i.e I could not access QRZ via DX4WIN although it would work if I accessed it directly. I eventually found that the problem was that I had changed the drive letter for the "Data Directory" in the external database set-up menu from upper to lower case. After I changed it back to a capital, everything worked fine. Unlike the drive letter in the "Executable Program" slot, the Data Directory letter does not automatically switch to a capital when you enter a lower case drive letter. I thought this info might be of use to others who may be having a similar problem. 73, Joe
[Dx4win] NEED HELP TO RECOVERY LOST DATA

I've had similar problems when upgrading to new drives, etc. I recommend that you do a search on your entire computer with the Windows "FIND" routine. [Dx4win] PSK31
Bill, I've only operated PSK31 a few times, but a simple way of checking your system's receive function is to just connect a cable DIRECTLY from the fixed audio output jack on the back of the MP to one of your sound card audio inputs, e.g. Mike. You should be able to copy PSK31 with the DX4WIN without a problem. However, make sure that your sound card controls are properly setup. I am using W98 here and you have to go into the audio menu either through the control panel (Multimedia) or the volume (speaker) control icon at the bottom of your screen. If I remember correctly, you have to adjust the parameters under "Recording" to optimize PSK receive. Also, make sure that the audio input that you're using on the sound card is activated, i.e not muted. I believe it wound up in "My Documents" rather than the DX4WIN directory. 73, Joe Natale Borghetti wrote: >Could any one help...I would like to backup my log (using DX4WIN version 6.02). > >When I lounch the backup command nothing is writting to the backup >directory.. > > >OS W2K in Italian > > >How to force the backup > >73 > >i5nph > >Chris > > > >--- >Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free. >Checked by AVG anti-virus system (http://www.grisoft.com). >Version: 6.0.592 / Virus Database: 375 - Release Date: 2/18/2004 > >--- StripMime Report -- processed MIME parts --- >multipart/alternative > text/plain (text body -- kept) > text/html >The reason this message is shown is because the post was in HTML >or had an attachment. [Dx4win] EXT DATA -- from QRZ.com on line
OK, I surrender. I copied URL the addresses just as shown in the K4NR screen pictorial, and I still get the same response as I obtained previously: Hitting F3 with the cursor in the QSO window switches me to the EXT DATA window where I get an error message. If I hit ENTER while in that window, it brings up my web browser (Netscape) on the QRZ.COM site with the proper call info shown there, but it does put that info into the EXT DATA window in the same manner as when using a CD ROM as the source. What am I doing wrong? 73, Joe tony.lord wrote: >Dear Tom, > >Having read the correspondence in the reflector in regard to this issue, >following your instructions the system works 100%. [Dx4win] EXT DATA -- from QRZ.com on line
Tod, I went through similar frustration several months ago and it was discussed on the reflector. When accessing a call from the web, the information is not displayed in the EXT DATA window as one would expect. Frankly, I forget the all the details and symptoms at this time, but I think what happened is that DX4WIN opened up one's web browser and the information appeared there. The bottom line is that I decided it was more effective to directly access the information locally from my HD. 73, Joe Tod - ID wrote: >Being unreasonably lazy I am posting this so I can avoid an archive search >if there is nothing there. > >I finally installed DX4WIN 6.02 and set all of the preferences to what had >been the settings for DX4WIN 5.3 in my environment . [Dx4win] Casual Contesting with DX4WIN
Milan, if you check "Special Keys CW/RTTY" in the QSO window's menu, you can send stored contest exchanges that you have recorded under the CW window's function keys 1-8 directly from the QSO window without switching to the CW window. I'm sure this feature was intended for streamlining contest exchanges and logging. 1. First, hit F9 to switch to real time logging. 2. Then bring up the QSO Window menu and check "Special Keys CW/RTTY." 3. Now when you hit any of the F1-F8 keys while in the QSO window, the stored CW message corresponding to those keys will be sent. 4. If you want to use the original QSO window's commands that corresponded to those F1-F8 keys, you will have to precede the F-key with "shift" or uncheck "Special Keys CW/RTTY." 73, Joe Milan Gütter wrote: >Paul, > >the CW contesting with the 6.02 is impractical. > >The permanent switching between CW Keyboard Window and Main Window >with the ALT+K or F9 is fatiguing. > >Big help will be in moving (duplicating) the Callsign Field >to CW Keyboard Window when CW Keyboard is in use. > >Can we hope that You do it in the next vesrion? > > >73! > >Milan, OK1FM >http://www.ok1fm.com >http://www.vhf.cz >[EMAIL PROTECTED] > > > > >___ >Dx4win mailing list >Dx4win@mailman.qth.net >http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/dx4win > > > > --- StripMime Report -- processed MIME parts --- multipart/alternative text/plain (text body -- kept) text/html The reason this message is shown is because the post was in HTML or had an attachment. [Dx4win] PSK31 Menu Problem
Mel, it looks like the problem is solved. Apparently, "Use CW Control" is for VOX operation and the program seeks and finds the proper COM port automatically. It also helped to turn up the VOX gain, which I had all the way down because I never use VOX. The conflict with the manual is what got me into trouble. I had used the program for PSK31 in the past, but I never used an interface. I just used direct connections between the Xcvr and sound card. Everything seems OK now. Thanks for your assistance. 73, Joe Mel wrote: >No it's changed... The options under TX are checkboxes for Net and Use >CW Control > >6.02 doesn't allow a separate COM port for PSK31 PTT control... [Dx4win] PSK31 Menu Problem
Mel, thanks for your help, and you were partially correct. By reducing the font size from 9 to 6, I was able to have the tab headings show their proper labels. However, I still don't get the options that the manual says I should. The manual says than under "TX" I should get a the options for "NET" and "TX Keying". "TX Keying" then should have check boxes in a submenu for "VOX," "CW Interface" and "Serial Ports 1 thru 8". I get no "TX Keying" option at all! I get instead a check box for "Use CW Control". Something is haywire here, because I can't select the COM port for my interface. I should add that I am using version 6.02 and my manual is for 6.0. I am not aware of any updates for the manual. [Dx4win] PSK31 Menu Problem
I have a very mysterious problem when I try to adjust the TX (transmit parameters) settings in the PSK31 window. First of all, the tabs across the top of the Settings window is blank; there are no names on the tabs. However, except for the TX tab, they all do respond properly with the expected options.when they are selected. In the case of the TX tab, some options seem to be absent. The "TX frequency, "" Net" and "CW control" options are visible, but there is no "TX keying" option as described in the manual. As a consequence, I'm unable to select a COM port for my interface. I've reread the manual and the Help files several times without success. Does anyone have any insight here? Thanks and 73 de Joe

I occasionally connect to the cluster via telnet through K4JA. I am typically disconnected after a prolonged period of inactivity (six or more hours or so). [Dx4win] Problem accessing the web using Ext Data tab
OK, Mel. This has been maddening. I ahd been doing what you suggested regarding the cursor and all that came up was the QRZ.com page which allows one to search for a call, but the call specified in DX4WIN was not automatically entered. However, after further investigation I uncovered the following: 1.Rather than originally typing in the URLs as suggested in the manual, I ahd copied the URLs for QRZ.com's lookup page and the QSL manager page from their respective pages and inserted them into the required locations in PREFERENCES/EXT DATA. Those copied URLs turned out to be http://www.qrz.com/callsign/ and http://www.qrz.com/callsign/ i/qsl.html respectively. When I hit ENTER with a call entered in the EXT DATA callsign window, it would take me to a QRZ.com menu page which included links to many of QRZ.com's pages including the QSL manager lookup page. No call was automatically entered on that page. 2.When I changed the addresses above to those specified by the DX4WIN manual (http://www.qrz.com/ for the callsign and http://www.qrz.com/callsign?= for the QSL manager), the same menu page as above came up when I plugged a call into the callsign slot in the EXT Data window. However, when I entered a call into the QSL manager slot, the QRZ.com page came up with the normal information relevant ot that call. It seemed that things might be reversed. 3.I then reversed the URLs in PREFERENCES/EXT DATA so that http://www.qrz.com/callsign?= was the callsign URL and http://www.qrz.com/ was the QSL manager URL. Now entering a call into the call slot does bring up the page with the expected info relevant to that callsign, but doing the same in the manager slot just brings up the menu page referred to above. So what's the bottom line? 1.Use the URLs that the manual suggests, but REVERSE their locations in PREFERENCES/EXT DATA as described above. 2 Then, when looking up a call in callsign, the QRZ.com web page comes up with the expected info. (The cursor must be in the slot with the call; otherwise it doesn't work.) However, there is no automatic insertion of info into the EXT DATA window as takes place with a CD-ROM lookup. 3.When looking up QSL manager info, one only gets to an entry page. Manual insertion and searching is still required. I don't believe that the program was intended to work that way and there must be a bug. I am sorry to be so long winded, but this really turned out to be an ordeal. I am still not totally satisfied with my observations and would appreciate more confirmation. 73, Joe Mel Martin wrote: >When the cursor is in the QSL manager lookup box the callsign in that box >will be checked on the Web... >I sent the explanation to David... but it's too long to repeat... >It's a "feature" not a bug... [Dx4win] Controlling computer time
Roy, do you know if Dimension 4 runs OK on Windows XP? I am running it FB on my W-98 desktops, but I get an error message when I run it on my laptop with XP. The Website only refers to W95 and NT as operating systems. 73, Joe Roy Dancy wrote: >This program has been running here for a very long time, years, and never >gives any trouble. [Dx4win] Terminal Program for DX Clusters
Bruce, DX4WIN already has an integrated packet terminal program. Just type CRTL-P or go to the WINDOW menu and click on packet. You have to set the packet parameters in the PREFERENCES selection area first though. 73, Joe [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: >Good Morning: > >Which terminal program would you recommend for use with DX4WIN. [Dx4win] F3
Ralph, I have had some strange, inexplicable behavior with DX4WIN at times. [Dx4win] CW Window looses focus
Frankly, I didn't know about the "+" and "-" keys. I have always used the "alt F9" and "alt F10" keys. Thanks for the tip! 73, Joe Larry Gauthier wrote: > John, > > I operate about 30% CW, and do not use the key for changing speeds, I > use the "+" and "-" keys. [Dx4win] File Merge Problem: Gibberish in Call Notes
Paul, you were right, but the cure didn't work. I did a search for QSOs containing the gibberish and found 14 QSOs, which I deleted. The gibberish still persists. The gibberish does not appear in the original imported HS0ZCK file. Nor does it appear in my K2XX backup file. The QSOs without any call also do not appear in these files. However, when I merge them both the gibberish and the 14 QSOs without any call appear. Again, deleting those QSOs does not eliminate the gibberish. Incidentally, when those QSOs are displayed, they are filled with ASCII squares and other unusual characters. Is it possible that there is a bug in the "Merge DX4WIN file" routine? Is there another way I can merge the two files without using that command? On another issue, is there a way to save the QSOs from a search as a separate log file? Tnx for ur help. 73, Joe Paul van der Eijk wrote: > Joe, > > You most likely have a QSO in your log with an empty callsign > that has this funny note in it. [Dx4win] File Merge Problem: Gibberish in Call Notes
Dear List Members: I recently used my laptop to log some QSOs as HS0ZCK during a recent trip to Thailand. When I got home, I merged these QSOs as a new group with my K2XX file on my shack desktop computer using the DX4WIN file merge commands. Ever since I did the merge, I have gibberish in the "Notes for this Call" area of the QSO window. The gibberish is: /stonDWF8C, and the "D" is in red with the rest in black. It appears whenever I hit F9 to log a QSO in real time and disappears when I start to enter a call into the QSO window. I tried merging the HS0 log into my K2XX backup file and the same gibberish appeared in the same place. However, since I didn't save the merged files in this case, the gibberish problem can be reversed by simply deleting the merged HS0 QSOs. In the case of my main K2XX file, where I did save the HS0 QSOs, the gibberish problem cannot be reversed by deleting the HS0 merged files. Does anyone have an idea of what's going on here and how I can correct the problem? (BTW, both computers are using version 5.03 of DX4WIN.) Thanks for your help. 73, Joe
