[Dx4win] R: Problem connecting a IC7600
I have had the same problem, if i remember well, starting with the newest dx4win release (9.XX). Before the dx4win upgrades my 7600 has worked with the pc and dx4win flawless. My scheme is very similar to yours: ic7600 connected via retro USB to PC and the SPE1.5K-FA connected to the IC7600 remote port. I have found the solution using the VSPE software. Instead to connect direct the ic7600 to a real com i conect it to a virtual port. You have just to switch on the radio as the first thing, than load the configuration of VSPE and, at this point (after have modified in the preferences dx4win from the real to the virtual radio port) load the dx4win. It takes just few second and it works great. VSPE software is free and it is not necessary at 100% to buy the licence. I bought the licence because, in this way, i can memorize the configuration of VSPE and at the start all is easier. So this is my configuration and it works 100%. In any case, give a try! Thanks for your comments David. I have tried several things but the problems remains When I click on a spot in the band map or in the spot window the frequency changes accordingly in the band map and in the logging window but after 1-2 s the frequency change back to the one seen on the radio. The mode has changed both in the logging window and on the radio. However, if I change the frequency or the mode on the rig it changes in DX4WIN. Thus, it is only the communication of frequency from DX4WIN to the rig that does not work. Everything works if I use N1MMplus or Ham Radio Delux. I can connect to a Kenwood TS-590 with DX4WIN. The problem remains if I connect another computer, this time with Windows 10. N1MMplus and connection to the TS-590 works from this computer. I have changed cables and ports without success. The remote jack (CI-V jack) has been both connected and unconnected to my amplifier (SPE Expert 1K-FA) and it did not affect the result. I have restarted the computer and the rig several times, but not in any systematical way. [Dx4win] R: CAT problem
Kostas i confirm the problem. IC7300 seems works ok. But in the dx4win frequency window there are erratic values. In any case i can point and click on the band map and the radio QSY correctly. Problems are with the IC7600, radio nr 1 for my setup. I click and it is changed only the mode. If i click on the band map, the red arrow on the left hand side of the map remain where is the mouse pointer until i release the mouse button. Then it returns on the previous frequency. As i said, mode is changed correctly. If i move the frequency with the vfo knob, dx4win read correctly the frequency. Problemi s only for the point and click. In the dxspot window if i click on a dx that is in snother band, the 7600 change mode only but not fequency/band. Dx4win 8.05 as worked without the minimum problem since day one with my 7600 (and the same with ts2000 ecc ecc) Something may be happen! 73 de Tibor, IK2SAI -Messaggio originale- Da: dx4win-boun...@mailman.qth.net [mailto:dx4win-boun...@mailman.qth.net] Per conto di kostas sv1dpi Inviato: venerdì 20 ottobre 2017 18:10 A: dx4win@mailman.qth.net Oggetto: Re: [Dx4win] CAT problem I believe there are not changes in code on cat control. [Dx4win] R: DX4WIN Status -- Observations
Running DX4WIN since 1997 (if i remember well rel.:1.08) without missing a single update - and still enjoing the software - i am sure ready to pay for an upgrade. 73 de Tibor, IK2SAI -Messaggio originale- Da: DX4WIN [mailto:dx4win-boun...@mailman.qth.net] Per conto di WB3AAL Inviato: sabato 17 ottobre 2015 22:07 A: '(K7ZO) Scott Tuthill' ; 'dx4win@mailman.qth.net' Oggetto: Re: [Dx4win] DX4WIN Status -- Observations Hi Scott and all, I would be up to paying for a new version or upgrade!! Been using the DX4WIN since the early years. Great logging program. 73 Ron Polityka WB3AAL -Original Message- From: dx4win-boun...@mailman.qth.net [mailto:dx4win-boun...@mailman.qth.net] On Behalf Of (K7ZO) Scott Tuthill Sent: Wednesday, October 07, 2015 1:00 AM To: dx4win@mailman.qth.net Subject: [Dx4win] DX4WIN Status -- Observations First -- to answer AD1C's question I believe 8.05 was released in January 2011. Before that 8.02 was released in September 2009, 8.03 in December 2009, and 8.04 in May 2010. Second -- to echo other similar comments I am a very long time user of DX4WIN, since the late '90s. The fact is DX4WIN still works and does what I need it to do and does it efficiently and reliably. But, my expectations are simple: keep track of logs and QSL cards, help me track DXCC, and be my day-to-day real time spot processing, logging, and rig control system. The log management use is not to be underestimated: between my K7ZO log, my YN5Z log, and NK7U's logs, the later for whom I have been the manager for 20+ years, I have about 400,000 QSOs to keep track of and I respond to 1,500 QSL requests a year. Certainly there are more things I use a computer for in the hobby, but I use other software for them. I did look at Log4OM a year or so ago as a modern version of a logging program and software suite. It certainly does a lot more than DX4WIN but converting my logs over was going to require a huge amount of manual work if I wanted to retain detail beyond basic QSO data. Yes, some of the Log4OM features could be added to DX4WIN. But, this leads to the next point. Third -- if we really want Paul to add features to DX4WIN we need to make it worth his while. Someone's comment mention how using DX4WIN has saved them from years of upgrade bills. However, this also means that Paul does not have a financial incentive to spend time on DX4WIN. In other words, we are getting what we pay for -- nothing. (Other than AD1C's amazing work which earned him deserved recognition at Dayton.) So we should not complain. And there are some among us who regularly spend way more on various pieces of station hardware who would vocally object to a annual software maintenance fee. The N1MM+ development team, who are motivated by something other than money, have lowered our sense of the value and worth of software. That is fine for them, but it is not fair to expect all other developers to follow the same path. I have no idea how many DX4WIN users there are, nor how much they are willing to pay for a new release of DX4WIN addressing the top requests. I would encourage those that want improvements to DX4WIN to rally the user base and present a financial case to Paul for the work. Other than that, perhaps there is a way to open source the code and let others add to it. And, if Paul rationally does not want to spend time on the software going the open source route might be a great solution for him and for us. Just my two cents worth. [Dx4win] cw 500 filter
Hy guys. Among other radios i have my trusty TS140 fitted with 500Hz original filter and CAT system. In order to set the frequency with DX4Win i use "kenwood" file. My problem is that - all times - when i set a cw frequency my ts140 goes on wide cw (2700 Hz) and i have to set the filter. Is there the way to set the filter with CAT (or keep the previously setting) ? Re: [Dx4win] DX4Win wish list (In addition to xmmt.ocx)
I am on the air since 1991. I am using dx4win since december 1997 (release 1.07 if i remember well). I think that this software is just perfect. My wish list is limited to an improvement of CAT. I know that is a very hard job but in my opinion is the only part that can be discussed. I saw easy log. It gives a number of radio and a small customizable panel with the preferred controls for each one. I really don't need an HRD cat system but something more than what it is given today. That's all. 73 de Tibor IK2SAI Tibor M. [Dx4win] R: R: R: R: wish list for 8.02 or later
Mel, happy to know that Paul is aware of the matter. What you write is exactly what I founded. Yes, dx4win runs ok on VSPE but if it is the only sw direct to that com. You say about CI-V bus...well, the problem is shown even with my kenwood ts2000x regardless to the speed: I tried from 4800 to 57600 and it is always the same. I mean... there is something to be fix not only for the Icom but for Kenwood as well. If it will work I will be satisfied. 73 de Tibor, IK2SAI -Messaggio originale- Da: Mel [mailto:ve...@videotron.ca] Inviato: venerdì 28 agosto 2009 21.44 A: Tibor M. Blum - IK2SAI - Oggetto: Re: [Dx4win] R: R: R: wish list for 8.02 or later OK Tibor... I tried out VSPE and it works perfectly... but DX4Win doesn't! It works as long as DX4Win is the only program polling, but if you generate traffic by trying to control the radio the DX4Win driver has issues... it is unable to handle traffic and collisions on the CI-V bus. This is a problem that Paul is aware of... and I hope he will address it eventually by improving the Icom interface. This is the correct solution to your problem. Adding virtual COM ports to DX4Win is not because, even if Paul did this, it still wouldn't work without fixing the Icom serial interface. Tibor M. Mel, come on it is not necessary to ask - always - for some of common or usual. I do not talking about a common software. I talking about my logging software and about a function I am looking for. There are some software able to create virtual ports. I was advised to run VSPE that seems to be just perfect for what I looking for but while other software (for example HRD and ARCP2000) are working flawlessly dx4win "gives numbers". I am not interested about other software. If I was, may be I made a different choice well before. Mel i hope to be understood. I think that dx4win is great. I wrote in my previous messages that for me there is only dx4win as a logging software. All the time I download a new logging software (believe me I have made it tenth of time) I am reassured by myself that no other software even come close to "our" dx4win. I well understand that Paul is not going to be rich with dx4win even if I suppose there should be some thousands of licences running around out there. Any way I am not interested in Paul's pocket affair: if he is still developing dx4win or he enjoy doing that or he can earn enough money for himself to be happy or both of them. We are just talking about possible way to develope our favourite sw and just talking about my - personal - wish list. It is the very first time that I ask something for dx4win but I think that I am not alone about that. Because dx4win is a logging software and not a CAT I understand that at this time it is gonna be some of very tedious to start a CAT develop. But because there are some CAT software (I mentioned HRD but it is not alone: as I said kenwood owners are proud of their proprietary CAT program: they are simply the best even respect to HRD) I think should be much better to give the chance to dx4win owner to run at the same time 2 software on the same com in order to CAT at 100% the radio and in order to enjoy the benefit coming from either software. I know that Simon is 1) a great Ham 2) is a great software developer BUT it is not the only one and all the time a CAT software take live we should go to the developer asking for that. No, sorry, this is something related to dx4win. Instead of spending time for a serious CAT interface, in MY opinion should be much more interesting to find the way to give the chance of choice the preferred CAT sw running at the same time with dx4win. 73 de Tibor, IK2SAI -Messaggio originale- Da: Mel [mailto:ve...@videotron.ca] Inviato: venerdì 28 agosto 2009 16.41 A: Tibor M. There are some Ham software developers who have accumulated enough money through other business ventures that they can afford to develop software just for fun... I agree if speed and accuracy are the most important criteria. (they are for me). There are other programs with many more... and useful... features. BTW, go to the EQSL site and look at the pages on logging software and note the number of uploads based on software. DX4Win is ranked first with nearly 8 million QSOs uploaded. The only one close is Logger32 but that is free software (and you know about Hams and their legendary reluctance to open their wallet). Ciao Mel. No, i did not asked to Simon. HRD is going to implement a fine Log with the 5.0 release and I think he should...or would be not so interested in interfacing to thirdy party logging software. We have to keep in mind that HRD is free while Dx4Win is not. The com emulator is something, I think, I have to ask to Paul. It is dx4win that can't compete with HRD for CAT. HRD respect the log is much more further. And I think we are talking about software. So I can imagine that with some hardware interface problems should be solved but, because something can be done on the software as well, here is my request. About HRD log...well I imported my 36000 qsos and was not so slow. What impressed to me is that all the time I ad one qso it takes so much time that, if I am a runner on some frequency, I certainly run faster than my log! After all I can confirm that dx4win is just the best software logging software. Because I use it since 1.07 release (December 1997) I would like to see as better as it can and I do not want to miss it due the CAT problems But year after year...new radio after new radio, can be clear that the problem is getting better. Today most of the home Ham radio stations are built if not on a computer base...around a computer and all new rigs have simpler connectivity. 73 de Tibor, IK2SAI -Messaggio originale- Da: Mel [mailto:ve...@videotron.ca] Inviato: venerdì 28 agosto 2009 15.02 A: Tibor M. Blum - IK2SAI - Cc: Dx4win@mailman.qth.net Oggetto: Re: [Dx4win] wish list for 8.02 or later Hi Tibor. AFIK #2 is being considered... it might take a while... bugs need to be fixed first. re #1... I think you should ask Simon to implement that in HRD since his program would create that requirement with any logging program. (Maybe he did... did you ask him?) I use multiple virtual ports as implemented my Microham and that works perfectly. As for DX4Win users switching to HRD logging... not a chance. D4W users use it for a reason... very fast performance and the most accurate award tracking. Did you try Simons' log? It uses Microsoft Jet DB so is SLOW! Here is an example... On my not so fast hamshack computer to import 25K QSOs... DX4Win (proprietary DB)... about 1 minute. Logic8 (Foxbase)... about 5 minutes. DXLabs (MS Jet)... about 30 minutes. HRD Log (MS Jet)... about 30 minutes DX4Win to open... about 3 seconds HRD Log to open... about 30 seconds... that's a looong time when you are waiting ;-) To be fair... I am sure HRD will get faster... Simon is an amazing programmer... but he can't make the MS Jet DB go any faster... I suspect Microsoft designed it that way to push people to it's SQL server ;) I believe he supports connections to other databases such as mySQL but that is starting to get complicated for the average user. Also, using MS Jet DB does make it much easier to access your data... for example... you have almost unlimited ability to make adjustments or corrections to your log if you are familiar with ACCESS. Nonetheless, you can't beat D4W for speed. Tibor M. [Dx4win] wish list for 8.02 or later
Ok, i don't know if it is appropriate at this time to make a post like this. Any way: I would like to ask a pair of things to Paul. 1) we can understand that CAT is a very complicated matter. Dx4win do that in a very primitive manner. But. now that dx4win has the band map should be very interesting to run connected to the radio. Problem is that many of us are using dedicated CAT software like HRD or, for the TS2000, the ARCP2000. Many of use have more than 2.3 radio connected. The only way to run dx4win together with such these software is a com emulator. I tried a number of them but they show some problem with dx4win. Now, because dx4win will be not a CAT program but it is simply the best logging software around should be a nice feature if, dx4win itself provides a virtual com system, good for itself and good for us running a multitasking system. Should be a nice touch now that the best cat program around (HRD) is going to implement a logging software by itself (HRD). Some people should be driven to migrate from dx4win to HRD log. 2) This is much more simple. I ham an avid cluster user. All the time that I connect to my node I do have a number of operations that should be easy to implement like a macro or something like that. I mean that when I start dx4win, my log should be connected directly to my node and should clean all the previous spots in its windows. At the contrary they are all manual opr. Holidays are at the end.. Contest season is back to the door and seems that propagation is going to do a better job than last year. 73 and good dx Tibor, IK2SAI __ Dx4win mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/dx4win Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Dx4win@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html
[Dx4win] R: A strange thing
Tony, thank you for your email. I have downloaded the software and looks like just what I am looking for. Incidentally I do not have the K3 but the TS2000X and, for what I have seen there is no way to change the kind of rig. One missing point on my previous message is: with VSPE all runs ok if I connect only with dx4win. When HRD starts dx4win starts "to give numbers"... Any further ideas are welcome! Blum - IK2SAI -' Cc: dx4win@mailman.qth.net Oggetto: RE: [Dx4win] A strange thing Tibor, I tried the two virtual port software products suggested to you and neither worked for me. I then downloaded LP-Bridge from www.telepostinc.com (freeware) and it works beautifully with my radio (K3) on COM1 and mmtty, winpsk, and cwdecoder all operating on virtual ports, which direct data through the same COM1 port used by DX4Win. I am sending Larry, the author, a donation as his product is terrific (my opinion). I just learned of his product this week and tried the oldest version first, then the newer version and finally downloaded and installed the current "beta" product, which is working well and loads in my computer "startup" file. To have multiple software products share one hardware COM port and to work as expected is wonderful. I was frustrated and did not wish to spend a hundred or more dollars for a hardware interface. If I connect DX4WIN without running Ham Radio Deluxe, all is ok, band map is ok, no problem. Yesterday in a forum someone talked to me about Virtual Serial Ports Emulator freeware software (VSPE). I immediately installed the software and after some minutes I was able to create a virtual com where to address Dx4WIN AND HRD. Fantastic: when I receive a spot I click on that, it change me the setting of the radio, HRD show all the new parameters and in the Dx4WIN I get the call in the right place. All works ok.BUT: Looking at the band map, it flickers: the vertical, qrg line moves from left to right and than again right to left. The frequency showed on the top of band map start from the right one and step by step goes down..down..down to zero.without moving the real QRG on the radio. On the QSO input window, the same happen in the frequency display. But even the mode and the band are changing step by step without sense. I tried to set the radio on 18140 SSB, on the band map the frequency starts to move down. In the QSO window problem is that the mode changes to CW, and so on and even the qrg moves. If I log the "qso" dx4win doesn't get the real data but what is displaying at that time. I have tried to reduce the com speed down to 9600 but nothing has changed. So I returned to my old setting.but there is any way to fix the problem? HRD + DX4WIN are just the best of the two worlds and being able to run them connected to the radio is certainly fantastic. [Dx4win] RTTY function keys (7.01)
Hy everybody. After having set al the RTTY (MMTTY) "macro" I founded that something is wrong with the "label" of each macro. The orizontal available space (from left to right) is less than half of the screen and while you can change the width of each key you can't modify the overall length. It is something that should be happened many hears ago with the packet or cw window, just can't remember. It is happening just to me (Athlon 1GHz + 640RAM +win XP) or is a bug? After that I re-email my problem with the qso input window when I am connected with the cluster: I have no answer about that. Is it possible I am alone??? I'm running a TS2000X controlled by the ARCP software. (dx4win is not engaged to control the radio being the ARCP much more versatile than dx4win on this regard) The band and /or mode change any time I receive a spot via the cluster and it drive me creazy tring to run the contest or even searching and pounching on the band. Each time I must check that all is ok. Some time after having properly set the mode, tring to set the band, receiving a spot I must return to set again the band. Band an mode are stable only if I insert a callsign in the call field. Tibor, IK2SAI

I did some more experimenting with the 7.01 demo and you're correct: the band/mode is consistent with the rig setting in the "Add real time" mode when connected to the rig and the packetcluster is active. I did have to reset the poll rate to something a bit faster than 5 sec to get the info to display consistently in a rapid manner. My apologies for assuming that this band/mode issue was still as it was in 6.04.
