I made one mistake. (O), (SK) and (B) are correct.

(EX) is really like this:

ZC4RR,,ex-K3QII

I'll see if I can put this on the web somewhere.

I should probably explain this somewhere, but I don't have a good
place to do this.

(O) means that they use an on-line QSL request system. This could be
Club Log, M0OXO, M0URS or their own.

(SK) means the manager is a Silent Key and no one else has the logs

(EX) means the manager has let his license/callsign expire, in other
words, no longer active in radio

(B) means they only accept cards via the Bureau

There may be others, but I am not in front of my software right now.
I will try to post a list somewhere on web

The (O) in the QSL manager field means they offer Online QSL Request Service

I have a question, well, rather it is a curiosity.
What does the (O) indicate in the QSL MGR field? For example I worked the XE1XR

Sure, when printing the QSL, it also comes out (or).
What does it indicate (O)?

Hello all:

To delete a QSL manager entry in the QSL manager database:

1) Open the QSL manager database
(Main menu File Databases QSL managers)

2) Select the Station whose QSL manager you want to delete.

3) Press Ctrl-Del on that entry.

4) Exit saving the changes
  (File Save Changes and Exit).

I hope this will help...

Occasionally, the listed manager for a station is no longer correct.
Usually, merely replacing the callsign in the QSL Mgr. box in the QSO

entry will not take--when saving changes, the old callsign reappears.
This seems particularly likely when there are multiple QSO's with the same
station. Then, some of the QSO's may accept the change, and some not. I
cannot seem to break this loop

At the moment, I am trying to re-QSL VQ9LA, direct for four out of seven
QSO's. DX4WIN had it right but RAC and GoWin had later entries suggesting
Larry's home QTH in Missouri. Larry's QRZ.com entry, however, and Larry

2008-12-05 Thread Garry Shapiro

Kostas,

Unfortunately, that is not the case here. In fact, the opposite appears
to be true. Here are two examples.

1. I have seven QSO's with VQ9LA. The earliest three are RTTY QSO's and
none of them will accept a change in the manager listing in the QSL Mgr.
box; the next four did accept the change. However, I can put the same
mailing address in all the address boxes (Ctl-E).

2. I have three QSO's with HB0/DA1WA. The first QSO will not accept a
change in the manager listing, but the other two did. Again, the mailing
address box is the same for all three.

I closed and reopened DX4WIN--no difference. I can change the manager
callsign until I turn blue, but it always reverts to the prior entry.

Re: [Dx4win] QSL mgr anomaly

2008-12-05 Thread Garry Shapiro

Kostas,

I think we are getting somewhere. It had not occurred to me to look at
the database!

Following your post, I opened the QSL Manager database and found about
two dozen entries for VQ9LA, many of which were identical, and some
where only the date was different, pointing not only to VQ9LA himself,
but also to the two Stateside managers (N0QM and WD0HSP) he does NOT
want cards sent to (these are home calls and Larry says it will delay
things over a year), and also lines for phony managers I had typed into
the manager box in the QSO entry window to try to get something to
change. This was a clue! I changed all the callsigns to VQ9LA and now
the QSO entry window QSL manager box is happy. I also tried erasing a
bunch of the redundant entries by erasing the info in them. The
now-empty lines wind up at the top of the file, but nothing else changes.

It may be that every entry in the QSL manager box that is saved gets a
line in the QSL manager database, whatever its content. But if there are
conflicts, the behavior I observed can occur. However, since I use both
RAC and qrz.com for external data, those references--including the
incorrect managers--still persist in the F3 window. That is, the QSL
manager box is now well-behaved, but pressing F3 /may/ bring up /all/
the information, including the bogus info, because the bogus info is
still in the external databases.

So it is not foolproof but it is better. Thank you for helping me think
more globally about this.

Garry, NI6T

Kostas SV1DPI wrote:
i am trying to explain this behaviour but i can't think many things.
I can change any manager i like. I don't know if the user level (mine
is set to expert) affects this. Another thing to try is this: you can
search your database managers manually. Go to filedatabasesqsl
managers. Do a search for vq9la. there is a case to have some entries
(especially some with dates) in database which make all the confusion.
For example if you have an entry like

vq9la 22/08/2008 sv1dpi
that means that after 22/08/2008 manager will be sv1dpi.
but if you have another one like
vq9la 23/08/2008 ni6t
this means that sv1dpi is the manager only at 22 Aug 2008. So if you
have a qso at this date maybe you can not change this qsl manager
entry in the qso window. But you can do this inside the database.

I have version 7.02.15 on an up to date XP processor.
The problem I experience is when I try to edit a existing QSO QSL MGR call
sign. I can not erase using F10 or Enter. When I go back to the QSO, the
origional QSL MGR call sign is still there??

 Can you duplicate the problem?

Too complicated to correct/change a manager during real time logging. I
may be mistaken but I guess it was possible to edit qsl manger in the qso
window in previous versions.

Something to be corrected. Fred PY2XB

Hi John,

In the QSL manager database, managers have start dates but not end
dates. Thus, it's not possible to delete a manager.

You can go into the QSL manager database (File - Databases - QSL
Managers) and delete the entry. But that deletes the manager for ALL QSOs.

The QSL manager database I include in the country file does NOT have
any self-managers (one way to correct the problem).

Let me know what the issue is and I can try to fix it in the next
release of the country files.

2) Tried changing time on a logged QSO, it won't let me. Can change
any other field.

Supposed to work. Maybe it's something about the demo program. Or
go into Preferences and change the user mode to Expert.

3) Tried importing my 105K QSO file via ADIF import. Ended up with
over 4000 exceptions. DXCC totals per band and per mode totals
didn't match by a lot. Trying to resolve and fix these differences
seems like an impossible task. Having notes of the difference
associated with each QSO instead on in a file doesn't help. Any suggestions?

You can do an F8 search in Notes for this QSO field for the word Error.

The DX4WIN call/prefix/country database is fairly high-quality. I've
been working on improving it for almost 3 years now. The most recent
file is at:

 http://dx4win.ad1c.us/

-- just follow the links. You could be encountering errors during
import that may not be related to the country file, i.e. serial
numbers in the RST fields.

Use F8 as described to give yourself a flavor of the kinds of
problems you're hitting. I can work with you one-on-one to help
resolve most if not all of these import problems.

4) Any way to SH/DX rather than bringing up the PACKET screen? Was
hoping command lines would be available on spot display screen.

No, commands can only be entered into the Packet Window.

7) Going to have to look through the filters section stuff a lot. I
really want the capability to search through the logbook file
setting particular defined bands, modes and frequencies and generate
a screen or file of the QSO's that match. I suppose that is
possible. Don't quickly see how.

F8 search and specify the band and mode. Then Window - Logbook will
bring up those QSOs selected. You can right-click on the Logbook
window and invoke the Report Editor to arrange the data any way you like.

8) Any way to easily edit the country library within DX4WIN to
quickly fix things like K6H is Hawaii rather than US? Sure one can
change it for a particular QSO but how about the fix working for
subsequent ones?

Just log the QSO with the correct date/time/prefix and it will be
added to the country file automatically. I'll make a note to fix
this call in the next release of the country files.

10) What is update policy? I see costs associated in going from one
version to another but nothing mentioned about within version updates.

No charge when staying within a minor version (7.01 to 7.02) but
nominal charge for a major version upgrade.

[Dx4win] QSL mgr update#10

2002-05-13 Thread Vlad UA6JD
Here is update for DX4WIN5.03 mgr database which collect during
my QSOs in last week and requests from LU7DSY and RA3DEJ.

If you work DX and he give a QSL manager , which was indicate in
window QSL manager - it mean that it not in DX4WIN database and
it add to your database automatic with date of your QSO.
If you have a time please note this and send info to
[EMAIL PROTECTED] and I will add it to future update.
Just only if we remember about HAM radio spirit and help each of us -
we will have complete QSL manager database without mistakes. Thanks.

I think Baldur's 6O0X is not good for DXCC - he haven't license from
Somali government - just only from Somaliland which was no recognize
 - so mark invalid in ValidDX window before we not receive any
comments from Bill Moore. No any info about that 7O/OH2YY accept
or not for DXCC - but I think YES - also waiting for DXCC HQ info.

Many Russian Pobeda (PR**) special events asking QSL via bureau only -
so if they give to you another QSL info - stay with operator's
instruction.

Warning:if you already have a other QSL information ,
that publish here - it will overwrite and skipped to
QSL manager publish here.
So read and check before update!!!

You need copy mgr data and save as text file ,for
example,dx.txt
Then add it to DX4WIN usual way:File|Databases|QSL Managers
then
File|Import QSL manager data|open dx.txt Then SAY NO
(VERY IMPORTANT SAY - NO) then OK and SAVEEXIT.

Re[4]: [Dx4win] QSL mgr update#6

2002-03-29 Thread Vlad UA6JD
Dear friends-
I am using data of managers from DX bulletins -
so if published incorrect data it will be wrong info in my update.
QSL information was change from one issue to other - so my update is
no cumulative.
Before give update I was inform what type of DX bulletins I am using.
It was no possible give 100% correct info - so before update from my
information please check by yourself.
If anybody find any mistake and inform me I will add correction to
next update.
Everybody can convert managers data from any DX bulletin - it was VERY
easy . I am using Word97 and it work perfect.
Sorry for trouble which I give with wrong info.
Any QSL info from WPX SSB Contest will be appreciate for special
Contest update.

 Vlad

LA Questions that arise are:
LA Do later updates overwrite the old data?
LA Is there any warning when this happens? I don't want to overwrite old
correct
LA data with possible incorrect new data. I wish it was possible to keep a
log of this data.
LA How reliable is Vlad's data? That is, which DX bulletins does he get data
from
LA and how reliable are they. I have noticed a lot of DX bulletins will have
conflicting
LA or just plain wrong QSL manager data.

LA AFAIK there is no way to extract the DX station call and QSL manager call
LA to a file - that makes it very hard to check what's going on.

Re[2]: [Dx4win] QSL mgr update#6

2002-03-28 Thread Wendell Wyly W5FL
If you have logs that go back many years, DX4WIN has the ONLY solution that
will work properly. I have KA1S from Minami Torishima in 1977, Germany
(deleted), Czechoslovakia (deleted), P2 (Papua) deleted, ZD4 (Gold Goast)
deleted, Y2 (East Germany) deleted, many VK9,VP8, CE9, old Russian calls,
etc. that would only work properly with the DX4WIN merging scheme. I still
have a few calls that I am unsure what country they are from and they can be
found with a Prefix that is blank.

The first time old logs are put in DX4WIN, the exception records are written
for YOUR countries ONLY and the file is then merged with the new country
list. A very nice solution. The differences are clearly shown for EACH and
EVERY exception, which you can save to a file when you merge the files to
determine exactly which exceptions you have.

Other logging programs that attempt to be something to everyone for a
country list make numerous mistakes to the correct country count.

You may want to simply merge each of your old country files, print the
exceptions, and determine if you have all of them in a single country file,
then merge this with the .cty file that comes with 5.03.

Larry - if you read the manual, you will see that the old country file is

Paul may automate this in the future (I hope) but currently it's a manual
task. Be sure to always install in a new directory, as the instructions
note, so you don't overwrite anything.

Unfortunately Duane I already made the mistake of installing DX4Win
over itself when I changed the location of the \xxx\ham\ directory (twice!)
which
contains DX4Win. I just plain forgot about not installing with making
provision
for a merge.

I _think_ there is a version of dx4win.cty in the shack that I copied over 6
months ago
from my master house version of DX4Win that contains all the exceptions.
It came from copying over both n2la.dxl and dx4win.cty from the master house
version
to update the shack for stuff like qsl's received, etc.

When I'm sure of my ground I'll copy it back to the shack.

However I'm not at all sure it's useful to worry about dx4win.cty.
It seems to me that the log _already_ contains the exception data
and that will not change. The only thing that might matter are new
countries added of which there is only Ducie.

It would be really nice if there was some way to compare two .cty files so
the differences
could be noted and dealt with.

This may not be a feasible request for our friends abroad, either Vlad or
those who use his updates. Many of them are still operating under ISPs
that charge by the byte, or by time increments, so doing it as you suggest
is a real hardship for those folks.

Fortunately the archives at www.qth.net now appear to be operating
properly, so it's no challenge to find all the previous QSL manager updates
there.

Good point. I didn't think they would be so huge _yet_ but it's possible.
The problem I was trying to address with my low key suggestion is how to know
which updates have been made.
And of course what do you do when a new DX4Win comes out?

I wonder if it's possible for me to simply keep adding updates to my own file
with comments embedded as to which updates are being added.

Questions that arise are:
Do later updates overwrite the old data?

As a fairly new born-again DX'er after a 30 year absence
I'm starting to appreciate how much time and energy goes into QSL'ing.
It's a real waste of time when I send a QSL to the wrong person.
Unless he's nice enough to email or return the card with an explanation
a long time goes by before I realize something's wrong and start to take
corrective action.
Somehow I feel that a much improved QSL manager database is needed.

All the postings to this group are archived at www.qth.net, why not just dig
out the ones that you're missing and load them up that way?

As an alternative, perhaps one of the folks who main support sites for
DX4WIN could keep the updates available as single files for those who need
them?

From: Larry Alkoff [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Vlad I copied and pasted your QSL mgr update #5 and #6 into separate files
and compared them.

Most of the entries in the two files are quite different which indicates
that the updates are _not_ cumulative. It looks like I have to download
and install
all of them one by one.

I respectfully request that you send me updates 1 through 4 as I have 5 and
6.

I'd also like to suggest that future updates each include all the previous
updates
so it would only be necessary to load the latest without worrying about
missing
an update. Items that have changed should simply overwrite the old manager
with the new.
