2012-12-11 Thread Robert B. Nelson
The username must be the email address you used when you registered the EFW
Community Version. This is all part of using the EFW Community version and
documented on their website.

Once you've registered your email address then run "efw-upgrade -s" instead.

Re: [Efw-user] EFW Developer Environment Released

2012-12-01 Thread Robert B. Nelson
This is the symptom when the installer has been built with the wrong version of
libsmooth.

This version of the developer environment uninstalls any previous libsmooth
before starting to
build the packages, it then patches, builds and installs the new libsmooth
before building the
installer.

I'm not sure what went wrong in your case.

Re: [Efw-user] EFW Developer Environment Released

2012-12-01 Thread Robert B. Nelson
The retrieve-srpms step has been combined with setup-devel and is called from
there after writing the info to ~/.efw-dev.cfg.

Please use the current instructions from the gforge site:

For new installs:

1) Install the released EFW and select Gateway for the RED zone, enable SSH
and connect to the new system.
2) efw-upgrade (select 2 Development)
3) curl -O .../efw-devel-1.2.tar.gz
4) tar -C /var -xf efw-devel-1.2.tar.gz
5) /var/efw-devel/setup-devel
6) /var/efw-devel/build-pkgs
7) /var/efw-devel/build-iso /var/tmp/efw.iso

For upgrades:

1) mv /var/efw-devel /var/efw-devel.old
2) curl -O .../efw-devel-1.2.tar.gz
3) tar -C /var -xf efw-devel-1.2.tar.gz
4) mv /var/efw-devel.old/EFW-COMMUNITY-2.5.1-201201271721-SRPMS.tar.gz
/var/efw-devel/2.5.1
5) Save any RPMs or SRPMs from /var/efw-devel.old/2.5.1/rpmbuild that you want
to keep, then remove /var/efw-devel.old
6) /var/efw-devel/setup-devel
7) /var/efw-devel/build-pkgs
8) /var/efw-devel/build-iso /var/tmp/efw.iso

This error did not happen with your previous versions. I
completely deleted /var/efw-devel and started over from

Note that directory /var/efw-devel/2.5.1/rpmbuild/SOURCES

One final note, I mirrored the SRPM archives from SourceForge to my

Re: [Efw-user] EFW Developer Environment Released

2012-11-30 Thread Robert B. Nelson
I released version 1.2 of the Developer Environment.

This version fixes a couple of issues that showed up once other people started
to use it. The main issue is with the installer
and libsmooth. Due to a misunderstanding on my part about how the dependency
between these two worked when I originally created
the environment, I was building the installer with the released version of
libsmooth rather than my patched one. The released version
leaves the settings files with the wrong ownership which breaks configuration
from the Web GUI.

The other fix was to allow build-pkgs to be run multiple times. The problem is
that if you build the gd package with the X11 devel
packages installed it adds a dependency to the X11 runtime. But the X11 runtime
isn't installed on non development system so the
installer would fail installing packages. This has now been fixed by
uninstalling all the packages built by previous runs of build-pkgs
whenever you start a new one.

NOTE: Once you have successfully run build-pkgs to completion there should be
no need to run it again.

One final note, I mirrored the SRPM archives from SourceForge to my GForge
site. I did this because downloads from SourceForge
were taking way too long 2.5 hours for the initial package of SRPMS.
SourceForge seems to have lost most of its mirror sites and the
ones that are left are being overused. There are now NO mirrors at all in the
entire United States. I'm not sure what they did but they
seemed to have pissed off a bunch of their supporters.

| | The instructions for installing it are:
|

| | First install the released version of EFW using Gateway for the RED
| | zone. Enable SSH and connect to the server.
|

| | On the newly installed developer machine, run the following
| | commands:
|

| | 1) efw-upgrade (select 2 Development)
|
| | 2) curl -O
| |
http://gforge.opensource-sw.net/gf/download/frsrelease/29/130/efw-devel-1.0.tar.gz
|
| | 3) tar -C /var -xf efw-devel.tar.gz
|
| | 4) pushd /var/efw-devel
|
| | 5) ./retrieve-srpms
|
| | 6 ) pop d
|
| | 7) /var/efw-devel/setup-devel
|
| | 8) /var/efw-devel/build-pkgs
|
| | 9) /var/efw-devel/build-iso /var/tmp/efw.iso
|

| | You should now have a new iso image suitable for installing.
|

| | You can also browse the source for EFW in the vendor directory of
| | the
| | SVN section of the project. I unpacked
|
| | all the SRPMS so you can view the spec files and patches directly.
| | For the packages that are specific to EFW, I
|
| | also expanded the source TARs and applied the patches so you can
| | view
| | the actual source code without downloading
|
| | and installing the SRPMs.
|

| | The changes I had to make to the SRPMs, to get them to build, are
| | in
| | the trunk directory in SVN.
|

| | Currently the documentation is the shell script files themselves
| | :-)

Re: [Efw-user] EFW Developer Environment Released

2012-11-25 Thread Robert B. Nelson
The V2.4beta is known and I believe is a result of the SRPMs not quite matching
the released versions. I've told Endian of the problems and they
are looking into it.

The iso not installing is something I haven't seen before. Was there any
specific messages displayed? Can you switch to tty2 (Ctrl Alt F2) and see if
there
is more information there.

Re: [Efw-user] EFW Developer Environment Released

2012-11-22 Thread Robert B. Nelson
Colour me embarrassed, I forget the z option when I created the tar file.

But you can just do:

tar -xf efw-devel-1.1.tar.gz

since the one you downloaded wasn't actually compressed.

I've replaced the tar file with a compressed one to eliminate future confusion.

I was going to do that but the intent is that the same Developer Environment
release would be
able to build different versions of EFW. So it isn't tied to a specific
version of EFW (or at
least it won't be in the future).

The problem is that while the kernel has been updated, the C runtime (glibc)
which includes the
headers and kernel entry point stubs hasn't been updated.

Until glibc is updated with a current version you won't be able to build it.

Re: [Efw-user] EFW Developer Environment Released

2012-11-21 Thread Robert B. Nelson
The file /usr/lib/perl5/5.8.5/i386-linux-thread-multi/CORE/perl.h is included
as part of perl-extras. This package should have been installed
long before rrdtool was compiled.

I would take a look for an error message when perl was being built and
installed.

Hi Robert,

I suggest to rename the devel package to something like the matching
Endian version; i.e. efw-devel-2.5.1-2.tar.gz for the last one.
This avoid confusion for new people when join the community.

Davide.

Re: [Efw-user] EFW Developer Environment Released

2012-11-17 Thread Farzan Qureshi
Thanks for your response. But as you have suggested in prior emails that we
can get our own iso after compiling required packages, does this mean we
can compile new version of the packages and then build an iso ? May be new
version of packages fix my issues?

Sorry for my confusion.

| |
|

| | | I've finished the first release of the Developer Environment for
| | | Endian Firewall Community version 2.5.1.
| |
|

| | | I created a project for it on my gforge site:
| | | http://gforge.opensource-sw.net/gf/project/efw-devel .
| |
|

| | | There is a single tar file to download from the Files section.
| |
|

| | | efw-devel-1.0.tar.gz
| |
|

| | | The instructions for installing it are:
| |
|

| | | First install the released version of EFW using Gateway for the
| | | RED
| | | zone. Enable SSH and connect to the server.
| |
|

| | | On the newly installed developer machine, run the following
| | | commands:
| |
|

| | | 1) efw-upgrade (select 2 Development)
| |
|
| | | 2) curl -O
| | |
http://gforge.opensource-sw.net/gf/download/frsrelease/29/130/efw-devel-1.0.tar.gz
| |
|
| | | 3) tar -C /var -xf efw-devel.tar.gz
| |
|
| | | 4) pushd /var/efw-devel
| |
|
| | | 5) ./retrieve-srpms
| |
|
| | | 6 ) pop d
| |
|
| | | 7) /var/efw-devel/setup-devel
| |
|
| | | 8) /var/efw-devel/build-pkgs
| |
|
| | | 9) /var/efw-devel/build-iso /var/tmp/efw.iso
| |
|

| | | You should now have a new iso image suitable for installing.
| |
|

| | | You can also browse the source for EFW in the vendor directory of
| | | the
| | | SVN section of the project. I unpacked
| |
|
| | | all the SRPMS so you can view the spec files and patches
| | | directly.
| | | For the packages that are specific to EFW, I
| |
|
| | | also expanded the source TARs and applied the patches so you can
| | | view
| | | the actual source code without downloading
| |
|
| | | and installing the SRPMs.
| |
|

| | | The changes I had to make to the SRPMs, to get them to build, are
| | | in
| | | the trunk directory in SVN.
| |
|

| | | Currently the documentation is the shell script files themselves
| | | :-)

Re: [Efw-user] EFW Developer Environment Released

2012-11-17 Thread Farzan Qureshi
Hi Robert,

Much appreciate your hard work. I have been following your emails and soon
will test the developer environment. I wonder if you have come across with
slow browsing issues when use dansguardian and virus scanning. I have a
10mbps link. It never exceeds 1.3mbps with dansguardian and antivirus
scanning enabled in production environment. However when I disable
filtering and only have squid running bandwidth is normal that is 10 mbps.

Secondly I can never make the squid authentication work with my AD. It
pulls the groups but not users. There is some issue with the squid version
used in 2.5.1 community edition. May be your new version address these
issues already. May i request you if you can shed some light on this based
on your experience.

Thanks in anticipation.

2012-11-17 Thread Robert B. Nelson
I just released version 1.1 of the Developer Environment.

This new version incorporates the additional SRPMs missing from the initial
2.5.1 source archive.

It eliminates the patched SRPMs reducing the size by 25%, patched SRPMs are
created during setup instead.

Support for multiple releases of packages within a single directory are now
handled properly with the latest one being used.

Re: [Efw-user] EFW Developer Environment Released

2012-11-16 Thread Igor Mikolic-Torreira
Robert,

Can't thank you enough for this easy to install EFW
development environment. I can finally build some add-on
packages that complete my EFW set up, and I'm looking
forward to updating some of the EFW components.

I do have one question for you. When trying to build acpid
2.0.17 (see http://tedfelix.com/linux/acpid-netlink.html),
configure fails with the following message:

checking for fstatat... no
configure: error: "fstatat() not found"

According to the fstatat() documentation, it exists on all
kernels > 2.6.16, so it should be in EFW 2.5.1. Any hints
you can give me about how to add appropriate
headers/libraries to the development environment to support
fstatat()?

Thanks,

Igor

Re: [Efw-user] EFW Developer Environment Released

2012-11-14 Thread Robert B. Nelson
Not hard at all for a developer ;-)

The biggest problem is getting an appropriate SRPM, once you have one it is as
simple as:

1) Copy the new clamav-X-Y.src.rpm to the appropriate directory in the
SRPM_SEARCH_PATH.
2) rm `find_rpm clamav`
3 ) rpmbuild --rebuild --target i586-pc-linux `find_srpm clamav`
4 ) /var/devel/build-iso /var/tmp/new-efw.iso

Subject: [Efw-user] EFW Developer Environment Released

I've finished the first release of the Developer Environment for Endian
Firewall Community version 2.5.1.

I created a project for it on my gforge site:
http://gforge.opensource-sw.net/gf/project/efw-devel.

There is a single tar file to download from the Files section.

efw-devel-1.0.tar.gz

The instructions for installing it are:

First install the released version of EFW using Gateway for the RED zone.
Enable SSH and connect to the server.

On the newly installed developer machine, run the following commands:

1)efw-upgrade (select 2 Development)
2)curl
-O http://gforge.opensource-sw.net/gf/download/frsrelease/29/130/efw-devel-1.0.tar.gz
3)tar -C /var -xf efw-devel.tar.gz
4)pushd /var/efw-devel
5)./retrieve-srpms
6)popd
7)/var/efw-devel/setup-devel
8)/var/efw-devel/build-pkgs
9)/var/efw-devel/build-iso /var/tmp/efw.iso

You should now have a new iso image suitable for installing.

You can also browse the source for EFW in the vendor directory of the SVN
section of the project.  I unpacked
all the SRPMS so you can view the spec files and patches directly.  For the
packages that are specific to EFW, I
also expanded the source TARs and applied the patches so you can view the
actual source code without downloading
and installing the SRPMs.

The changes I had to make to the SRPMs, to get them to build, are in the trunk
directory in SVN.

Currently the documentation is the shell script files themselves :-)
