Hmmm, I am wonderingDon't take it bad please, but if your first
statement is ..how to build the code and how to get the dependencies...
my first question would be : Why do you want to compile Ekiga from
sources, and not just take a binary package at your disposition for your
distribution ? The answer could perhaps be because my distribution X, Y
or Z don't provide accurate package. Or perhaps you have special needs
regarding some features ?

you could take alook at the wiki where there are some pages about how to
compile ekiga :

Damien,

I think it depend on what you're trying to accomplish. The URL provides
a considerable amount of information which can be good, if people find
there answers or bad and by bad I mean heading them in the wrong path.

In the past several months you seem to be driven toward MS windows and a
SKYPE competitive environment. There seems to be enough differences in
each LINUX vendors release to continue to cause your unpaid staff
problems, so what is your object. SKYPE has already made in-roads with
TMobile and WIFI phones access and their LINUX release, ego, me seem to
work well.

Even with the problems I've encountered with EKIGA. I continue to try
using it even with my open bugzilla problem, open source provides a
longer fix time and less customer criticism. I personally know I would
like to loose SKYPE after 3 years but it works on all my platforms and
things seem to get fixed. I would NOT like to see you and your staff
fall into the MS category of the blame game and start using the terms
call the manufacture or OEMer, we can't help. Money is one thing but
general customer satisfaction is another.

I do wish the best of luck and will save the URL you provided.

W. Stu Lesnett III

It would be an annual fee for using ekiga.net.

How many users do you have?
Assume somewhere between 5 - 10% of them will pay.
Will that be enough to pay for your broadband connection?
Will that many users be enough interest to make it worth while
continuing to develop ekiga?
That's the balance - a slightly different problem to the one it took FWD
ten years to decide.

I wouldn't rush into it.

 Hello,

I've received that mail, too.

With the result I won't use FWD anymore.

Drawbacks:

1.) Having fees forces the use of payment systems which often need
additional personal information of the user. NOT Good! :(

2.) There is no global numbering plan and I won't register with 20
registrars to pay 600 $ per year.

So I'd propose a donation system with a donation meter with red, yellow
and green area showing how many days the system can be kept running. When
reaching yellow, comfort functions will be disabled, and red means the
service will be suspended until enough donations have been made.

By the way, you don't need a SIP registrar when using a ENUM-Domain with
NAPTR-,A- and SRV-Records.

So I would only pay for a ENUM-Domain with some kind of DynDNS or SOAP
interface to update the records.

Cheers,

Renne

The comments on the posting suggest this is a spoof. or really badly

Seriously, if it is worth it I will pay... I would just like to know the

... does this come from Ekiga.net or someone else? What happens to
Ekiga.net and my account there?
