[Elecraft] Norfolk Island visit ( VK9)
Hi, I will be popping over to Norfolk Island for just a week, arriving on 2nd Nov, and I will be taking the K1 and dipoles for 80 and 40m with me. Not sure of the setup where we are staying at this stage, but if it is unsuitable I will use the car's cigarette lighter for power and operate off a BBQ table, with the dipole slung up in a big Norfolk Pine. I imagine 40m will be my preferred band, and my most likely operating time will be from 0700utc to about 0900utc (Greyline time)which means anyone in the USA would have to be a late/early bird to look for me! If I get on 80m I will probably operate until at least 1100utc. It appears the morning greyline would occur about 1640utc to 1745utc ( yawn) and probably favour EU. If no antenna at the Motel I doubt I will be around for that one! I will be using 3.5200 and 7.015 +/- The antenna is a basic 40m 1/2 wave center fed with coax, and I have 2 more sections I can add on for making it a 1/2 wave on 80m. The anticipated configuration will be an "inverted V". The rig is K1 #575 with the KAT1 installed, and I have made a small set of "travelling" paddles to take. Anyway..I will be actively trying for a few contacts most nights. I imagine the XYL will interupt the schedule at least once, by wanting to go out to dinner :-( If you want to try for a sked, email me and I will do my best to be there for you. My callsign while there will be VK9BRW. Be warned...I am *not* an expert op...but looking forward to a good few contacts. CheersRon ZL1TW -- No virus found in this outgoing message. Re: [Elecraft] K2 & KPA100 assembly photos
FWIW I have posted page-by-page photos of the construction of my K2 at http://www.craigr.com/coppermine/thumbnails.php?album=32 Hey... http://www.craigr.com/coppermine/displayimage.php?pos=-203 Sweet! How'd you manage that? Special order? :-) I would guess that since he bought it at Dayton, he just pulled the side panel out of the box and asked them to sign it. -- 73 de Thomas M. Re: [Elecraft] Current Performance of K2/100 on SSB?
Well, there's the rub. I've only been able to use a random wire tossed up in a palm tree at my house; CCRs (building covenants) you know. What I'm planning on doing is getting a Buddipole that I can quickly erect and take down when I want to operate. If I set it up on the balcony of my house with an 8 foot mast; it should end up being about 20 feet off the ground. Re: [Elecraft] Current Performance of K2/100 on SSB?
Hey, thanks. I think for sure I need to get my K2 properly aligned using spectogram. I have the DSP module installed and, while it works well for me on CW, it doesn't seem to be as helpful/effective on SSB. When I built the K2 and the DSP unit, I just followed the basic alignment procedures in the constuction manual. - Paul, N6LQ On Friday 23 September 2005 20:03, you wrote: > Hi Paul, > I get excellent reports on my audio on both qrp and qro on ssb. reports like > "your audio sounds like fm" and wow, you audio is excellent". running 5 > watts ssb I was 30 over in Mexico from Bakersfield, Ca. on 75 meters. [Elecraft] Current Performance of K2/100 on SSB?
This is NOT a troll. I'd like some feedback on groupmembers' satisfaction with the K2/100 on SSB, not for contesting but for DX and ragchewing. I like using my K2 for QRP CW work, but would like to start working SSB with a good quality audio signal. I'm trying to decide whether to go with the latest revision KPA 100 (I haven't had much luck with my limited tries of QRP SSB - and my signals so week on SSB I haven't really been able to get reliable feedback on my K2s tx audio), or to buy a used transceiver for SSB work (say, an Icom 751A). Thanks in advance for your thoughts. - Paul N6LQ, K2 SER 3640 ___ Elecraft mailing list Post to: Elecraft@mailman.qth.net You must be a subscriber to post to the list. Subscriber Info (Addr. [Elecraft] KAT100 now on line
I have had my K2 for almost two years (s/n 4028) but xyl gave me the KAT-100 for my b'day. Came in yesterday about 2:00pm. Finished it up about noon today, then had to adjust the shack for it and got on line at about 3pm. So far it handles my two antennas well, a F12 C3ss and 80m Inverted Vee. How sweet it is to see that 1:1 and not be didling with the MFJ 989. 73s Jim, W4ATK ___ Elecraft mailing list Post to: Elecraft@mailman.qth.net You must be a subscriber to post to the list. Re: [Elecraft] 160 fixed in KPA100 and some tips.
Hi Elecraft uses the convention that pin one of most components has a round pad and all other pads are rectangular. The round pad at pin one can be easily mistaken for a board feed through and can be missed when soldering. I have made this error several times on the 15 K2's I have built. I now always solder pin one first on all parts to make sure this does not happen (although it still happened on the one I am building now on a relay pin in the VFO) Don Brown KD5NDB - Original Message - From: "Jess Gypin" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: "Elecraft@Mailman.Qth.Net" Sent: Thursday, September 22, 2005 11:08 PM Subject: [Elecraft] 160 fixed in KPA100 and some tips. RE: [Elecraft] KAT2 Lock washer Placement
Roger, The bottom line is that you have to end up with one lockwasher between the standoff and the board. It matters not which end of the standoff that occurs on - the lockwasher adds a bit more length to the standoff and it is sometimes needed to assure adequate clearance for the board above the BNC connectors. There is one other consideration - and that relates to ease of assembly, it is easier to put the lockwasher between the PC board and the standoff when the standoff is first attached - harder to fish the lockwasher between the board and the standoff on the 2nd end, but OTOH, the control board sits on top, and is the most likely to be removed in the future for firmware changes or other service, so the bast location for the lockwasher is between the L-C board and the standoff, then on the control board the lockwasher can go under the screw head. 73, Don W3FPR > -Original Message- > > I'm nearing the end of construction for my KAT2. [Elecraft] KAT2 Lock washer Placement
I'm nearing the end of construction for my KAT2. I'm at the step on page 12 of the KAT2 rev. D manual that says: "Secure the L-C board to the Control board standoffs using two 4-40 screws and two #4 split lock washers. These lock washers go between the standoffs and the PC board, not between the PC board and screws as on the control board." My question is this. Just where do these lock washers go? Page 6 of the KAT2 rev. D manual has an illustration that clearly shows the lock washers between the PC board and the standoffs. So that is what I did for the step on page 6. The last sentence in the quoted step from page 12 would seem to be in error and is what is causing my confusion. There's no illustration on page 12 for this step. One is told to put the lock washers between the standoffs and the PC board as apposed to the way it was done on page 6. It sure is a trivial point but I'd sure like to get it right.
