RE: [Elecraft] Re: K3 interaction w other rigs
In my other station, my K3 sits above my FT-9000d. Various operations, not limited to xmit RF, on the 9000 seem to make changes in the K3. When the K3 is on, the 9000d shows increased wide band RF out as indicated on the 9000d built in screen, or maybe it is just the display. Someday, I will do notated tests to be more specific. But, now-a-days, I just turn off the one not in use. 73 Charles Harpole [EMAIL PROTECTED] From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: Elecraft@mailman.qth.net Date: Wed, 15 Oct 2008 15:00:16 -0400 Subject: Re: [Elecraft] Re: K3 noise from PRO II CC: I have noticed strange noise level in my K3 when switch on my Icom 756PROII My PRO III makes quite a noise on my AM broadcast receiver. [Elecraft] Wandering output power and ERR TXG
After several weeks of faultless operation the low and unstable output power came back on 80m cw this morning. Following up a previous hunch I did the 50w TXG calibration and got the ERR TXG message...tried another couple of bands with same result. I retuned higher up the band and retried - this time no error message. When I checked the TXGN HP constant however it had gone right up to well over 100 from the seeming usual value of around 35 and each time I pressed TUNE to repeat the calibration the value went up a bit more each time. Adjusting the filter offset value a small amount also appears to cause the ERR TXG to leave me in peace but can't remember what happened to the gain constant. I sort of lost track of what I was doing but it's back to normal now with the txg constant back down to 32. Don't think it's anything do with synthesizer/vco as the receive is always normal. Might shift the 2.7kHz filter from position 2 to 1 just for grins as the archives turned up a report which said to use position 1 if you have only the one filter; I also have a 500 and 250 Hz filter but it's easy enough to do. 73, Stewart Rolfe, GW0ETF ___ Elecraft mailing list Post to: Elecraft@mailman.qth.net You must be a subscriber to post to the list. Hi Charlie, Mine blows out the rear, which I feel is correct, though it goes against conventional warm air rises logic. If for no other reason, dust would be inhaled into the cabinet if they were configured to inhale from the rear. If they inhaled from the rear, then the sharp edges would be easy to touch, and cut you. Re: [Elecraft] k2/100
Bryan, If the SSB filters have the low frequency corner of the passband set properly, you will not have to re-tune the VFO. You will need the internal counter probe to do filter re-alignment. It may be installed inside your K2, but Elecraft does not recommend that because there is a greater possibility of transmitted spurious signals when the KPA100 is also installed. Elecraft does have a kit for the counter probe available. The easiest way to align the filters is to use the Spectrogram application running on a Windows computer (if you are a Linux user, that are alternatives). Please review the K2 Dial Calibration article on my website www.w3fpr.com - part 3 of that article describes the filter adjustment using Spectrogram. Be aware that in many cases, when the variable crystal filter is used a wider bandwidths, the actual width may be much wider than indicated by the K2 display. You can measure the actual width of the filter with Spectrogram. There is not much sense in changing from a 2.4 kHz width FL1 to an FL2 that the K2 displays as 2.20 but is in fact 2.8 kHz wide! 73, Don W3FPR bryan puckett wrote: I have question about the filters when I change from fl2.2 on 14321.15 an switch to fl 1.60 to tune the voice I have to change vfo to 14320.30. IMO; Tech mode should contain things like calibration, that you only need to do once, after taking making changes to the hardware. The config menu should contain things that an operator might want to adjust once in a while. The main menu should contain things that the operator needs to adjust fairly often. Things that you need to adjust all the time should be on the front panel. Having tech mode on all the time clutters the config menu with items that you'd never use in general operation, and makes it harder to find the items you do need to use. [Elecraft] K3 with XV-Series Transverters: Need your input
Hi all, We're updating our transverter manuals. If you have a K3 and one or more Elecraft XV-series transverters, I'd appreciate it if you could review and comment on a short application note describing how to most effectively use them together. Re: [Elecraft] K3 TECH MD
I'm new at this but occasionally I like to watch the PA temperature for example. Unless I am wrong, I have to be in Tech Mode to see the PA TEMP display but I usually end up grabbing the wrong knob and screwing up the tamp calibration. I would prefer that the calibration adjustments were in a separate menu from the display options. In this example, the PA temp would be in 2 menus, tech mode to adjust calibration and either menu or config for monitoring. 73, Jim - Original Message - From: David Lankshear To: elecraft@mailman.qth.net Sent: Thursday, October 16, 2008 5:52 PM Subject: [Elecraft] K3 TECH MD I've noticed that quite a few enquiries have been resolved by advising the enquirer to turn TECH MD to ON. I just wonder if there's any argument to support ever having TECH MD turned OFF? Might it be just as well to set it permanently ON in a future firmware release, thus nipping many queries-yet-to-be-raised, in the bud, and maybe eliminating an unnecessary user option? If I remember correctly, having read the reflector diligently, this was the very first firmware option I changed. 73 DaveL G3TJP K2/100 #5551 K3/100 #1122 -- ___ Elecraft mailing list Post to: Elecraft@mailman.qth.net You must be a subscriber to post to the list. If you don't have a sub-RX, you can get the PA temp in the VFO B line of the display by pressing the DISPLAY button until it shows something other than a frequency, and then turning the VFO B knob until you see PA nnnC. No tech-mode required for that, and no de-calibration! ~Iain - Original Message - *From:* David Lankshear mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] *To:* elecraft@mailman.qth.net mailto:elecraft@mailman.qth.net *Sent:* Thursday, October 16, 2008 5:52 PM *Subject:* [Elecraft] K3 TECH MD I've noticed that quite a few enquiries have been resolved by advising the enquirer to turn TECH MD to ON. Re: [Elecraft] K2 under construction
George, Many thanks for the suggestion. After long pondering about this issue: shall I or shall I not get the SSB kit I decided against it. Many years ago I moved to CW only and I feel that CW requirements are different from SSB requirements. E.g. for SSB many prefer the KDSP2 where other prefer the KAF2 when working CW and using headphones. I also read about some owners having to replace the headphone jack. I have already built the front without the microphone socket and I have ordered a custom made cover plate that will go over both holes and will be attached through the holes from the back (so it can be reverted should I ever desire) Could have glued it to the front but then I would need a spare front. The headphone jack will go to the back and I will put a hefty 6 mm phone plug in there. Plenty of space there, hi hi. 73, Marinus, ZL2ML George Davis-3 wrote: Marinus,. To cover the unused mic socket, get a threaded collar off an old mic lead. put a black rubber/plastic disc in it and screw it onto the socket. Maked a neat job. George.
