[Elecraft] K1 stopped working on 15m and 20m
My K1-4 was working well when I first built it. Now I'm having some problems on 20m and maybe also 15m. Here is what it is doing: 40m and 30m: receives well and transmits 7 watts as calculated with voltage measurements on the DL1 dummy load. 20m : no reception and no signal heard from the XG2 signal generator; no voltage measurable on the DL1 dummy load indicating no power out 15m: no reception (I don't have a signal generator to test on 15m); no voltage measurable on output, but I can receive a signal from the K1 on my general coverage receiver. What I've done so far: 1. checked that the filter board crystals are oscillating by putting my general coverage receiver antenna near the crystals and tuned to the crystal frequency RF probe measurements: 2. VFO U7 pin 4/5: 40m: 0.064v; 30m: 0.034v; 20m: 0.034v; 15m: 0.132v 3. Pre-mix bandpass filter FIL-P1 pin 6: 40m: 0.081v; 30m: 0.046v; 20m: 0.000v; 15m: 0.024v 4. Transmit PRE (out set at 3.0W; but drops to 0.1W in tune mode on 20m and 15m) 40m: 0.080v; 30m: 0.057v; 20m: 0.001v; 15m: 0.29v The only test equipment I have is multimeter, an RF probe, an XG2 signal generator, and a general coverage receiver. Any suggestions for what I should look at ? 73, John, W8DE -- View this message in context: http://elecraft.365791.n2.nabble.com/K1-stopped-working-on-15m-and-20m-tp7580120.html Sent from the Elecraft mailing list archive at Nabble.com. __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html
Re: [Elecraft] K3 to Expert Amp cable ?
Ed, Your question brings up confusion for me. If you only need the CAT, you would connect to the DB9 RS-232 connector on the K3 - no DB15HD involved. [Elecraft] Fwd: Re: KPA 500 rfi problem and other curious behavior
In addition to the display problem on 30 meters described in a previous post, I have never been able to use the KPA 500 on 80 meters. If I run the K3 at 100 watts, the swr shows very low (below 1.3:1) and is consistent. If I put the KPA500 in line, it faults with high swr as low as 75 watts displayed on the KPA's display. Also, the swr changes as I transmit, randomly spiking up to full scale and shutting the amp down. It does this with even more frequency at higher power. I have eliminated as many other variables as possible and have come to the conclusion that on 80 meters (onlyapparently) enough rf makes its way into the KPA500 to cause this behavior (even at very low power). The antenna is a shunt fed tower, fed with buried hard line about 100 feet from the shack. I feed the same tower (same feedline) on 160 without issue. My instincts tell me the ingress point is the AUX cable (the one thing I haven't tested), but I am otherwise at wit's end. Anyone have any suggestions? Re: [Elecraft] CW Pitch Resolution
RobertG wrote Bill... Every time I attempt to use APF I encounter so much ringing that it's more or less unusable. I'd appreciate any hint that you might have about taming this feature for use. Thanks. Hi Robert, Reduce the gain and narrow the XFIL/DSP bandwidth such that the desired signal pops out of the noise. I generally don't use APF unless all signals in the passband are relatively weak. Ideally you don't want anything in the passband except band noise and the signal of interest. This may sound counterintuitive but IF QRM ALLOWS, try a relatively wide XFIL/DSP bandwidth (e.g. 400 Hz). I find this helps your brain/ears have better discrimination between the signal and noise. If you narrow XFIL/DSP too much, you may magnify ringing. Contrary to what I thought when I first tried APF, I now use it most of the time, but I hasten to add that most of the time I'm listening to very weak signals (e.g. 160m DX or QRP SOTA ops on higher bands). When I activate SOTA summits, I *REALLY* miss APF on my K2 and this feature alone may eventually push me over the edge to a KX3. 73, Bill -- View this message in context: http://elecraft.365791.n2.nabble.com/CW-Pitch-Resolution-tp7579837p7580141.html Sent from the Elecraft mailing list archive at Nabble.com. __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html

[Elecraft] K3 High SWR
My friend, R9DX is in Madeira now. He has K3 and Buddipole antenna with him and planned to operate in CQWW SSB this coming weekend. He has put up buddipole and tuned it with AA-530 antenna analyzer to 1: 1 SWR. It all worked well with 100w output on that band. Then he desided to try 28 MHz without retuning antenna. He has switched ATU in and tuned it. He has easily obtained 1 : 1 SWR reading on the radio. Then he tried to transmit and something happened inside. He smelled somethind burning and SWR became 4 :1. He assumed that may be something happened to ATU. So he went back to 15 m, switched ATU off and still got 4:1 SWR on the display. Switching to low power (10W) which should exclude the problems associated with KPA3 produced the same 4:1 SWR. Dowble checking antenna with AA-530 shows perfect SWR on 15 m. Any idea where to look? I suspect it might be SWR bridge but then is there something he can do (like disabling SWR bridge at his own risk) having no spare parts around? 73, Igor UA9CDC __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html

Re: [Elecraft] K3 - SSB audio get lost !
Yes, I would check the crystal configuration. When I originally built mine, I left the FL1 slot open for future AM or FM filter and put my 2.8KHz filter in FL2. At some point I also noticed I had no audio and this is because the width knob was turned wider than 2.8 so the K3 was trying to use a filter which was not installed. Re: [Elecraft] W2 Question
The internal tuner does not change the SWR on the feedline (at the output of the tuner). It will change the SWR that is at the input of the tuner, and that is the SWR indicated by the K3. The W2 is indicating the SWR at the tuner output (and that will not change with tuning). For those who want to have the feedline SWR and the power output displayed, the W2 is the way to go, if that does not interest you, then it may not be of value to you. 73, Don W3FPR On 10/24/2013 2:00 PM, Richard Thorpe wrote: On a particular band I use the K3’s internal antenna tuner to tune the SWR to 1.0-1 or so it says. Re: [Elecraft] KX3 General Coverage
Looking at the specifications for the KX3 on page 51 of the manual, it says that Sensitivity decreases gradually below 1.5MHz due to protective high-pass filtering, and in the installation manual for the KXAT3 it says that The KXAT3 also includes an automatically tuned filter for the AM broadcast band that tracks the VFO, improving image rejection for signals in the 0.3-1.0 MHz range. So, it would seem to me that it's a good idea to leave the KXAT3 inline, but that the receiver is going to be less sensitive the lower in frequency that you go and that in some cases it may be better to switch out the KXAT3 to avoid any additional losses through the filter, as long as large local (or maybe not so local...)signals are not going to cause you a problem. Re: [Elecraft] K1 stopped working on 15m and 20m
John, The most common cause of 20 meter failure on the K1 is the 22 MHz crystal on the filter board is not active enough to provide a sufficient LO for the Pre-Mixer. It is possible that the 15 meter crystal (29 MHz) is not sufficiently active too, but I don't have enough information to draw a firm conclusion. To confirm that the crystal(s) are the problem, put the RF Probe on the filter board P1 pin 4. If the RF voltage is less than 70 mV, there is not enough energy to adequately drive the mixer. If you do have sufficient RF at P1 pin 4, then you attention should focus on the tuning of the Pre-Mixer bandpass filter for 15 and 20 meters. Remember that you must tune 15 meters before tuning 20 meters. 73, Don W3FPR On 10/24/2013 10:35 PM, John Reed, W8DE wrote: My K1-4 was working well when I first built it. [Elecraft] KAF2 filter mod experience ?
I just received a KAF2 audio filter kit for my K2 and I am considering a few mods when I build it, to increase the bandwidth somewhat, and to increase the gain. My use of the K2 is mostly for VHF weak signal work with transverters, often outdoors with lots of background noise (surf, crickets !) so more overall gain would be useful on weak signals, and in HF CW contests where I'd like to get more rejection of signals far off frequency more than I need really narrow bandwidth. I am familiar with the notes from KI6WX on bandwidth and from Elecraft on increasing gain (both referenced in LA3ZA's mods list) and I have the capability to model the circuit and predict frequency response. Has anyone else tried different variations on the filter bandwidths and if so what are your impressions of the results, and are there any hidden traps in making changes ? 73, Steve VE3SMA __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html
Re: [Elecraft] K3 to Expert Amp cable ?
Ed, normally you would need just a standard straight thru male to female serial cable with just pins 2, 3 and 5 used to go from the PC to the amp. With some devices, like SteppIR controllers, you also have to jumper pin 7 to pin 9 at the device end of the cable to provide a handshaking loopback. Re: [Elecraft] K3 to Expert Amp cable ?
If you are using serial control of the Expert amps along with a computer control (logging) application, the normal connection is for the Expert amp to snoop on the data from the transceiver to the computer. This connection is shown on page 45 of the 2K-FA manual (rev 1.0). This will require three three DB9 connectors of the appropriate gender. Instead of serial (CAT) control for band switching, you might also consider band data (BCD value) from the K3 ACC jack using the configuration shown at the top of pate 36 of the 2K-FA manual. Band Data has the benefit of not introducing additional conflicts and/or reliability issues with computer control/logging applications. The 2K-FA DB15 connector is the *large* (two row) version whilst the K3 is the DB15HD (three row) version. The DB15 connection will carry PTT (Key Out LP), ALC, and TX INH between the 2K-FA and K3. Connections for the 2K-FA end are shown on pages 39-41 of the 2K-FA manual (the choice of /TX-INH or TX-INH will depend the configuration of your K3). 73, ... [Elecraft] A an old-new KX1 build
Hello, I bought an un-built KX1 complete with autotuner, 30meter, and keyer. At just over $350, I figure it was a good buy. I have the requisite skills and equipment to build the kt, but I was wondering what may have changed since this kit was shipped (May of 2004) and today. Are there any changes or upgrades that might be considered wise before I start the assembly process? I am aware that there is now a 30/80 meter board that is available. Does this impact my build with an eye to the future? I've also written to Elecraft, but trying to cover all bases before I heat up the iron. Much thanks.. [Elecraft] KX3 2-m module -- whip antenna support, etc.
One of the reasons we went with an SMA jack rather than BNC for the K3's 2-meter module is that the threaded SMA jack works very with a whip and a right-angle adapter. When the adapter is cinched down (finger-tight), the whip resists rotation. I had a chance to test this last night. With batteries in the KX3, I attached the whip and walked around the house keying up local repeaters. The whip stayed in place. Today I'm working on reducing 2-meter FM current drain when the receiver is squelched. The idea is to shut the module (and other circuitry) off most of the time, powering it back up to look for a signal that would open the squelch. This would be especially useful when running from internal batteries or emergency power. I'm experimenting with a cycle of 180 ms off, 20 ms on, which seems fast enough to catch any normal repeater activation. Input on this topic would be welcome. 73, Wayne N6KR __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html
Re: [Elecraft] Fwd: Re: KPA 500 rfi problem and other curious behavior
What does it do into a known good dummy load? If the same, your amp needs to visit the shop. If it works with the dummy, it's likely RFI. Adding a common mode choke at the antenna feed along with improved bonding (grounding) would be the first steps towards resolution of your problem. Cheers..Larry If you don't mind a little bit of external hardware connected between the Mic, and radio, you can power up a KX3 by applying a +ve voltage to the Mic PTT line. From page 28 in the user manual Quote Remote Power On/Off To turn the KX3 on, a remote-control system can place 8 to 12 volts DC on the mic jack´s PTT line for 100 ms or longer. (The ACC2 jack´s PTT IN pin function cannot be used for power-on control. Use only the MIC PTT line.) UnQuote To power it down, you still need to press the two buttons, or send it the remote command 'PS0:' on the serial remote control port. But see the note about letting it shutdown, before turning off the power supply feeding the rig. (Not a problem if batteries are fitted I think.) 73 Dave G0WBX. __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html
Re: [Elecraft] KPAK3AUX Cable Length
Hi Rich, The KPAK3AUX cable has been lengthened to 1.5 m (1/2 shy of 5 ft). In addition, we have also changed it to a much more flexible and smaller diameter cable to ease routing behind the equipment. Re: [Elecraft] A an old-new KX1 build
Paul, There have been no significant changes to the KX1. You have the KXB30, but if you also want 80 meter coverage, you will have to install the KXB3080 instead - they fit in the same space, so there would be no possibility to install both. If you do decide to order the KXB3080, ask for the firmware upgrade. Other than 80 meter support, there is no difference between 1.01 and 1.02. There are ways to avoid unsoldering components (other than 2 toroids) when installing the KXB3080 (nothing to remove if adding the KXB30). I have instructions to do that. If you want the instructions, just ask me. 73, Don W3FPR On 10/25/2013 12:01 PM, Paul Harker wrote: Hello, I bought an un-built KX1 complete with autotuner, 30meter, and keyer. Re: [Elecraft] KX3 2-m module -- whip antenna support, etc.
One of the reasons we went with an SMA jack rather than BNC for the K3's 2-meter module is that the threaded SMA jack works very with a whip and a right-angle adapter. When the adapter is cinched down (finger-tight), the whip resists rotation. Does this mean that female SMA is a bulkhead connector, similar to the HF BNC? If so, good show! Yes. 180/20 seems like a low RX duty cycle, so if you have to use that DC you might want to allow the op to place the 2m RX in always on, or battery saver modes, possibly from the MENU. The plan is for the 2M MODE menu entry to have three settings: Not Inst. (not installed) NOR(regular operation, full RX duty cycle in FM mode) LOCUR SQ (low current when squelched, with 180/20 ms cycle time) The LOCUR SQ setting is still in the experimental phase. Re: [Elecraft] Fwd: Re: KPA 500 rfi problem and other curious behavior
The first step, if you haven't done it already, is to connect the KPA500 to a good dummy load and test it on 80 meters. That eliminates a problem in the 80 meter bandpass filter in the KPA500. You can run the KPA300 without the AUX cable (See Fig 3 in the KPA500 Owner's Manual) to test your theory about that being where the RF is getting in. 73, Ron AC7AC -Original Message- From: elecraft-boun...@mailman.qth.net [mailto:elecraft-boun...@mailman.qth.net] On Behalf Of Robert Redmon Sent: Thursday, October 24, 2013 4:32 PM To: elecraft@mailman.qth.net Subject: [Elecraft] Fwd: Re: KPA 500 rfi problem and other curious behavior In addition to the display problem on 30 meters described in a previous post, I have never been able to use the KPA 500 on 80 meters. Re: [Elecraft] KPA 500 rfi problem and other curious behavior
This is most likely an antenna problem. As my friend K9YC will testify, vertical antennas need a good current return path, which is usually a good radial system. Without it the return current will be carried wherever it can, which usually winds up being on the outer edge of the coax cable shield. This will in turn come back to the amplifier and be indicated as a high SWR. It is real, and a problem. There are several solutions, usually involving adding a radial field (or more, beefier, radials if you already have some), and/or adding ferrites to the coax where it feeds the antenna. K9YC has an excellent tutorial discussing the use of ferrites at the feed point at his web site. Check out: http://www.audiosystemsgroup.com/RFI-Ham.pdf Jim has several other excellent papers at his site as well. He gave a couple of very good talks at the recent Pacificon Hamfest/Convention about verticals. There are many problems with antenna systems that are masked with low power. This makes low power operation much simpler since we don’t have to worry about these things. When an amplifier is added, the level of the problems is suddenly increased, and show up in various ways. With the KPA, the first thing seen is usually high SWR faults. At low power the SWR looks good, mostly because the shield return currents are fairly low. But as power is increased, they become a major factor, and will have a huge effect on SWR measurements. We also see a lot of RFI in the shack with high power - if you have amplified speakers you will instantly realize the situation with your transmitted signal coming out the speaker in a very distorted fashion. There are standard techniques to resolve these problems, involving the application of ferrites in various places (power cables, speaker leads, antenna feed lines), improvement of the antenna system (coax, connectors, radials, baluns of various sorts), or some combination of these things. The point is, check your antenna system. The problems being reported are real, they just haven’t been seen before the application of high power. This is an excellent opportunity to learn far more about the proper engineering techniques that we should use in building our stations, but didn’t realize how important they were... Good luck with your quest. Re: [Elecraft] KX3 Power On and AM
You could also build something to apply power to the PTT line and turn it on: To turn the KX3 on, a remote-control system can place 8 to 12 volts DC on the mic jack’s PTT line for 100 ms or longer. kx3 owner's manual, revision c2, page 28. Re: [Elecraft] KPA 500 rfi problem and other curious behavior
I will second Jack's observations. When we remodeled and added the room that houses my radios, I had them put a 3 steel pipe from a 1' square utility box in the wall straight up the wall with a weatherhead on top. The box opens into the shack under the desk and also into the carport. I recently bought a GAP Titan for WARC use, and cleverly mounted it on the 3 pipe sticking up from the roof. The bottom square 40m counterpoise is about 10 feet directly above my radios. I can run the K2 @ 10W, and the K3 @ ~80W just fine. Anything above that results in instantly high SWR indications, multiple flashing LED's and strange displays, and I'm probably sterile now. :-) I haven't done the common mode chokes yet, that *may* help some. I don't know what effect having the coax in the steel pipe might have, but whatever it is, it isn't enough. Jim's [K9YC] RFI tutorial has some excellent quantitative data on ferrite cores ... which mixes to use, how many, etc. The Titan is essentially a center-fed half-wave dipole. The instructions warn you in bold CAPS to have the coax exit the bottom of the mast through a hole about 1/2 up, and NOT directly out the bottom. I don't know why, but it's highly suggestive that the coax forms a part of the antenna system beyond just feeding power. 73, Fred K6DGW - Northern California Contest Club - CU in the 2014 Cal QSO Party 4-5 Oct 2014 - www.cqp.org On 10/25/2013 12:10 PM, Jack Brindle wrote: This is most likely an antenna problem. Re: [Elecraft] KPA 500 rfi problem and other curious behavior
If I understand the problem description properly, the VSWR was NOT observed with the K3 running 100w, but WAS observed with the KPA500 making only 75w. That seems to suggest it's not the antenna. An external SWR meter between the KPA500 and the antenna would be useful. It may be meter calibration issue in the KPA500 - support should be able to help with that. 73, ~iain / N6ML On Fri, Oct 25, 2013 at 1:56 PM, Fred Jensen k6...@foothill.net wrote: I will second Jack's observations. In a follow-up to my original comment Bob answered off list and I suggested a ground problem. He replied: Ron, you hit the nail on the head. Problem turned out to be old ground connections at the towers and the ground rod outside the shack. They all still looked good, but I chose to clean and re-tighten them anyway. Re: [Elecraft] K1 stopped working on 15m and 20m
John, If you cannot find a signal generator, do you (or a friend) have a transmitter that can produce a signal on 15 meters? If so (that is a signal generator), run it into a dummy load and connect a wire antenna to the K1 placed near enough to the dummy load to produce a signal that you can hear. Adjust the 15 meter bandpass filters for maximum response on receive, and then further refine that adjustment using the K1 transmit, peaking for maximum power (set the menu OUT parameter for 1.5 watts and exit TUNE and reenter TUNE if the actual power exceeds 4 watts). Once you have 15 meters working, then adjust the 20 meter bandpass. 73, Don W3FPR On 10/25/2013 5:52 PM, John Reed, W8DE wrote: Don, thanks for the tip. I forgot that in doing that I had totally messed up the tuning on 20m. __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html
[Elecraft] any creative suggestions for a missing part?
I'm missing the guts of one of my yellow test point connectors for my K2. The yellow shell is there, but not the metal insert that connects to the probe and is soldered to the board. From experience, missing parts take about a week to arrive here. Anyone have any suggestions on how to work around this so I don't lose more time waiting on parts? Thanks! harry KD0NFY ps - I know the best suggestion is for me to inventory the parts I have left so I don't have to wait again, and I'm doing that now. -- Have old memories and young hopes. __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html
Re: [Elecraft] K3 - SSB audio got lost !
Might check your crystal filter alignment. The K3 utility also shows a matrix of when a filters is enabled for each mode. -- View this message in context: http://elecraft.365791.n2.nabble.com/K3-SSB-audio-got-lost-tp7580095p7580180.html Sent from the Elecraft mailing list archive at Nabble.com. __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html

Mike I think you read what little mind I have left. ;) I was just sitting here working on it and that's what I'll do. Thanks! Re: [Elecraft] any creative suggestions for a missing part?
Henry, If this is a new K2, send an email to pa...@elecraft.com and request a replacement. In the meantime, use whatever substitute means you wish to substitute for the test point at TP3 - that one is used the most seldom. Put the good ones at TP1 and TP2 which will be used more often. 73, Don W3FPR On 10/25/2013 9:01 PM, Harry Stone wrote: I'm missing the guts of one of my yellow test point connectors for my K2. Re: [Elecraft] K3 SSB got lost = Solution
Again thanks to all who actually read my post and offered helpful suggestions. I have finally discovered the infamous operator error that caused my K3 to lose rcvr audio when I would change modes from CW to SSB. As mentioned in my original post, for the past 61 years I have been primarily a CW operator, therefore seldom paid close (enough) attention to the settings for the voice modes. Therefore when setting up the Rx Equalization, I set it up for CW with the below setting: 50 100 200 400 800 160024003200 -16 -16 -6 +15 +16 -15 -16 -16 AND I did not set up Rx Equalization for USB/LSB. I did save the configuration for CW. Obviously when I switched to USB or LSB, I could hear no voice audio. It was only after discovering my 'operator error' I changed USB/LSB to: -16 -16 +16 +8 +12 +12 +12 -16 And now I have normal audio (to my ears) in all three modes. Thanks again for your helpful suggestions and let's close this thread. 73, Tom - W4BQF __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html

Re: [Elecraft] CW Pitch Resolution
Guess I don't follow... When APF is engaged, SHIFT will change the APF center frequency. If you dial SHIFT for 270, RIT for -30 Hz, then SHIFT APF to 270 (assuming your PITCH is 300 Hz), signal will be centerd with a 270 Hz tone. 73, Drew AF2Z On Wed, 23 Oct 2013 08:29:44 -0700 (PDT), you wrote: drewko wrote If you want to go lower than 300 Hz for your preferred cw pitch you could offset the RIT for the lower tone then compensate with SHIFT to bring it back to the center of the filter. A keyswitch macro could do this automatically if you hve a set pitch in mind, say 270. That doesn't work if you're using APF, which I always use for weak signals. APF is linked to the actual PITCH setting. I also use 200 Hz filters in diversity and 30 Hz away from their center would attenuate signals. 73, Bill __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html
[Elecraft] K3 sudden. loss of TX power?
I was three hours into the CQ WW DX SSB contest and transmitting on 40 meters when suddenly transmitter power went to zero. No error codes and after a minute or two it came back briefly but then went out again. The first bar is showing on the front-panel Power meter. The red TX LED comes on. I tried the things suggested in the troubleshooting section of the manual to no avail. No change when I shut if off and waited a bit and turned back on. Also tried bypassing final amp in the config menu. I tried it on CW and still no power output (just shows the first bar on meter). Any suggestions? 73/Jon AA1K __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html
