[Elecraft] KX3 Please evaluate LiFePo4 battery/charger choice
So I have decided to retire my heavyweight UPS battery and upgrade to a LiFePo4 battery. This is what I am looking at: Bioenno 12V/3Ah with PCM and charger http://www.bioennopower.com/collections/12v-series-lifepo4-batteries/product s/12v-3ah-lifepo4-battery Am I expecting correctly that this should be plug play? I understand that more capacity will allow for longer operation, but I am not planning for any marathon, and from what I have read, 3Ah should last for several hours at 10W easily. Please correct me if I am off. Thank you for your objective assessment. 73 de K7RNO __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html

Re: [Elecraft] KX3 Please evaluate LiFePo4 battery/charger choice
Hi Arno, The Bioenno 12V/3Ah LiFePo4 should work nicely with your KX3 and provide several hours of 10W operation. I use a similar 3.3 Ah from http://www.batteryspace.com/lifepo4cellspacks.aspx and have been quite satisfied with it. [Elecraft] K3- CW frequency offset adjustment
Hi Guys, I typically tune in CW stations .040hz lower than typical. Such as, I'll tune in a CW station with a tone that is pleasant to my ear and the K3 will read 28.049.920. But if I use CWT to tune the same signal then the K3 will read 28.049.960. Therefore, I'm about 40 cycles off his frequency. That's usually not a problem unless the other station is running a narrow filter. In contest conditions this .040 offset often does make a difference. I realize I could adjust the RIT or XIT for this 30 cycle difference and I often do that, but that's a pain because when clicking a Packet Spot or changing bands the RIT/XIT is often reset to zero. So I'm wondering if there's a MENU setting on the K3 that would allow me to change the CW transmit frequency permanently by this 30 cycles? Thanks! Dick, Is the PITCH set to the same tone as you want to listen to? Hi Don, Thanks a bunch for the reply. I lowered the Pitch from 700 to 660 and all is well and I'm on frequency now. Wow- that was simple. Hello Arno, I just picked up 2 of these 13.2v, 4200mAh LiFePo batteries from HobbyKing. So far, they are working great. I retired my SLA 12v, 5Ah battery too. Twice the amp-hours at 1/2 the weight. They run at 13.2 volts, so portable I can run the 12 watts for a bit. http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/uh_viewItem.asp?idProduct=14067 They are in the US Warehouse too, no shipping from China. Re: [Elecraft] K3-SteppIR via Network?
I have not tried this. But, in one of the early Star Wars movies, the heroes and R2D2 were in the Death Star, and R2D2 just plugged into a network port and read all the traffic. After the movie, my wife asked me, Can you actually just do that ... your plug fits the socket and it just happens? I replied, Not in our lifetimes. Of course now, the phone in my cargo shorts connects to McDonald's WiFi when I walk in [I do occasionally eat a Sausage Egg McMuffin :-)] without me asking or even knowing. I'm sure there is a way for you to do this. Save my email addr and it you don't make progress, let me know direct. I don't know the answer but I may know some who may know. 73, Fred K6DGW - Northern California Contest Club - CU in the 2014 Cal QSO Party 4-5 Oct 2014 - www.cqp.org On 11/16/2013 5:27 PM, Martin wrote: Elecrafters, has anyone done this or has some advice: I plan to forward the frequency information from my K3 -wich is hooked to a Windows machine - via Network to the remote SteppIR controler. Re: [Elecraft] K3-SteppIR via Network?
You try something along the lines of netcat? Since you can look at the info via telnet client, you can pipe it to netcat. Netcat will send it over the network to a listening netcat (on the pi) that you can redirect it to the serial port that your SteppIR controller. So in very loose linux speak (since the specifics you give are sorta vague) On your server that the K3 is on: cat /dev/serial | nc ip.of.rasp.pi port On your pi: nc -v -l -p port | /dev/SteppIR Where 'port' is whatever port you want to send this across. Look at the man pages of netcat (nc) for all the neat options that you'll need to make this work. I've never passed serial traffic over, but netcat works for pretty much anything you pipe to it including a raw binary streams. Its cool stuff, like a swiss army knife for network communicatons.
