[Elecraft] P3 v. SDRPlay RSP1A for panadapter

2018-11-21 Thread Bill Weaver

I'm about to place an order for a K-Line and have a question for the
experienced users out there. What is the advantage of the P3 v. The SDRPlay box
as a panadapter if any?

Thanks

Bill - WE5P

Re: [Elecraft] Question on frequency when in fine/medium/coarse

2019-10-17 Thread Bill Weaver

Bob,

I just tested it. It looks like the undisplayed digits are retained. My example
7.02647. Select coarse 7.02644 tune around and return to 7.0264 and select
medium returns to 7.02647.

Re: [Elecraft] Question on frequency when in fine/medium/coarse

2019-10-17 Thread Bill Weaver

The undisplayed digits are used, i.e. the freq does not shift to the displayed
100Hz. In my example the freq (while listening to a CW QSO) did not shift but
stayed at 7.02647 Khz.

The flip side of that is with ntp being around since the stone age and the K4
having that feature implicitly, why not have it dead on? I have to use a 3rd
party program to keep windows close which is a joke in the 21st century.

Are you using N1MM? I had the same thing happen for about a 10 minute period
during the contest and clicked a few fields on N1MM related to RIT and it
stopped. I meant to go back after the contest and learn about N1MM control of
the RIT but my poor memory took over and I forgot about it! Thanks for
reminding me. I've found that the worst thing about having a bad memory is that
you forget that you have a bad memory and don't make notes! :-)

I am aware of that  the owners of SDR-Kits
has taken on the task of maintaining the site and continuing
sales of certain products.  They hinted at a "short kit" for
this part...
IF I can get my hands on enough of a kit and docs to align the
board properly, I am going to build one for myself and test it
on/off my K3s IF Out, and the P3 IF out with and without the
buffer to see what the instruments say AND IF it makes any
difference in display.

MOST importantly to me is that I NOT overload
my SDRPlay while banging out electrons on Top Band.

Again...  I don't know if this is a "real
issue" or a marketing deal...   Seems legit.

PS - Apologize to ALL for the crappy formatting of my previous

I just had this happen with an Alpha that I was bringing out of retirement.
Turned out to be dirty relay contacts in the signal path. I can't imaging what
would be unique in the amp about data mode. I wouldn't  think the amp would
even know. Good luck tracking it down. It's probably something simple.

Re: [Elecraft] KPA1500 problem

2022-01-17 Thread Bill Weaver
Hi Andy,

No, RX audio just appears greatly attenuated - acting like the antenna is
disconnected. There is still the ambient hiss from the K3 speaker. The symptom
reminds me of a problem I has with my Alpha 86 that ended up being a dirty T/R
relay. He’s close to end of warranty so he probably won’t spend to much time
trying to figure it out before sending it back.

BTW I’m not near the rig. English is his 2nd language and he doesn’t feel
comfortable in his ability to communicate.

Thanks,

Hi Pete,

Did you confirm that the drive power from the K3 was changing on 15M when you

Re: [Elecraft] Sherwood Receiver Tests

2022-05-01 Thread Bill Weaver
There are a few of those around now. Of course they have varying capabilities
relative to SMD. A buddy of mine just recently had a K3 repaired by N3CZ over
in North Carolina. He turned it in a few weeks.

[Elecraft] KPA1500 slow return shipment from repair

2022-05-20 Thread Bill Weaver
A buddy of mine (KW4YA) was waiting for a tracking # for his amp that was
supposed to ship Monday. He called and found out today that the return shipment
was overlooked. I had an instance a while back when my KPA1500 was returned
from repair and the power supply was forgotten in the shipment. Wayne and Eric:
things need to be tightened up in that area.

[Elecraft] K3/0 AF gain control across a RemoteHams link

2022-06-04 Thread Bill Weaver
A buddy and I are working on setting up his k3/0 -> my K4 remote link using
Remotehams. When he adjusts the AF gain on his K3/0 there is no change in the
audio level at his end (the audio level varies here on the K4). The AF gain
works fine when adjusted on the RcForb Remotehams client at his end. In
addition it works fine k3/0 -> another K3 via RemoreRigs at a different
location but not through the Remotehams link there either. Has anyone come
across this and solved it?

Re: [Elecraft] K4D order/delivery/price

I am one of the long wait guys (SN694). None of the Group 3 orders required a
payment ahead of time. The group 1 orders (full pre-payment) and Group 2
orders($1500. pre-payment) were classified as such based on voluntary
pre-payment and given priority in delivery as production caught up with demand.

Re: [Elecraft] K4D info

2024-07-28 Thread Bill Weaver
Logitech MX Mechanical w/Clicky switches. They make models with different
(soft) switches in the MX line. They probably have other 3 channel keyboards
models in their product line also.

My mouse is a MX Master 3S for Mac - same as for keyboards, they probably make
other 3 channel mice. The only thing I don’t like about the mouse is that the
channel switch is on the bottom. I rarely change channels so it’s not a big
deal.

Both are USB rechargable. They may work connected direct via USB - I’d have to
check. I always find the wireless operation more convenient.
