[Elecraft] K3 Assembly / Static Dissipation

2010-05-31 Thread Jim Bennett / W6JHB

Hi All,

Getting ready to take delivery of my K3/100 kit on Tuesday afternoon and
expect to start assembly after I stop slobbering all over the cool box of
stuff! I've got a nice anti-static mat and attached wrist connector that I
got from Fry's just for this project.

That was the good news. The bad news is that I'm unsure where to hook the
alligator-terminated ground wire. Obviously, if I was going to do the
assembly out in the garage I'd connect it to a copper water or ground pipe.
But, I'll probably be doing it here in the corner of my microscopic bedroom.
Would an aluminum window frame be of sufficient size / mass to dissipate any
static buildup by connecting said ground wire? I've looked around the room
and don't see a lot of metal objects to connect to. I did have several long
screws put in my leg from a skiing accident last year, but that probably
doesn't count!!! :-)

Any suggestions?

Tnx 73, Jim / W6JHB

[Elecraft] K3 Order Delays?

2010-05-26 Thread Jim Bennett / W6JHB

Although the online page continues to indicate that K3 kit versions are being
shipped in 3-5 days, I placed an order on Monday night and after querying
the order got a reply that there are delays and shipping would not happen
for 5-7 days. Problems, or just overloaded as a post-Dayton ordering
frenzy?

[Elecraft] K3 / Data Remote Questions

2010-05-18 Thread Jim Bennett / W6JHB

Planning on getting a K3 around the end of the month. Recently sold an Icom
'756 Pro that I used with my MacBook Air to run MacLogger DX through a Black
Cat CI-V. Also ran CocoaModem through a Tigertronics SignalLink USB. Selling
the CI-V on eBay right now.

My question is, what'll I need to use MacLoggerDX and CocoaModem with the
K3? I figure I'll need to replace the Icom cable on the SL-USB for
CocoaModem, right? What about a connection for MacLoggerDX?

Sorry if these are dumb questions, but I'd like to get whatever necessary
before I get the K3.

Thanks, Jim / W6JHB

Re: [Elecraft] First impressions of my Elecraft K3.

2010-05-15 Thread Jim Bennett / W6JHB

David,

Glad you are enjoying that K3 - sounds like it worked very well for you in
that less-than-great operating environment!!

I am about three weeks away from placing my order for a K3 and can hardly
wait to get my hands on one.

Yep, it sure does. No interest here on the reflector, so it's probably going
on eBay tonight. I have mentioned the IMA in the eBay description.

[Elecraft] K2 S/N 1134 For Sale

2010-05-12 Thread Jim Bennett / W6JHB

Hate to do it but I'm going to put my K2 up for sale. Want to get a new K3;
sold off an IC-756 Pro III, Icom mic and a KDSP2 board (from my K2), but
still come up several hundred $$ short in the cash register. XYL insists no
out of pocket for the K3 purchase. I guess I can get a K1 or KX1 sometime
in the future if I need a small, portable field radio.

Anyway, it is serial number 1134 and has the KAT2 internal 20w antenna tuner
and the KSB2 SSB module. All functions work great. It has no dents or
scratches. KSB2 was built and installed by Alan, W3DVX. The K2 itself was
brought up to specs and aligned by Alan just recently.

Will let it go for $775, shipped at my expense to any US address. No
shipping outside USA - sorry. If no firm offer by 5:30pm tomorrow
(5/12/2010), it's going up on eBay.

Photos available if interested - email me.

Tnx, Jim / W6JHB

Re: [Elecraft] F/S: KDSP2 Assembled Board Manual

2010-05-05 Thread Jim Bennett / W6JHB

The 1/2 hex spacer and 1/4 4-440 mounting screw WILL be included in the
package. I've ordered the two jacks and expect them to be here Friday or
Saturday. While they might not be needed by all K2 owners, I'd hate for
someone to buy the KDSP2 board and then find out there are no jacks on the
K2's control board to mount it to! Wouldn't make for a happy customer. And
besides, it only cost me a couple bucks.

That being said, the Buy It Now option for the KDSP2 has gone away, as
someone has placed a bid. I'm hoping this person is a valid buyer, as he has
a zero feedback score and is located in Romania. If it is someone from this
list, I'd like to hear from him/her, just to make me feel a little more
comfortable...!

Hi Alan -

Yep, I've had several email exchanges with the bidder, YO3AIZ - all is fine
with his bidding. He's got what he believes is the only K2 in Romania!!!

Tnx about the pix. Good equipment helps offset a bad photographer!

Hi All - I've got a KDSP2 assembled DSP board and accompanying manual for
sale. I posted it on eBay a few minutes ago as a three day auction. It'll
close on Friday evening, May 7 at 7:50 pm PDT or so, unless someone grabs it
via the Buy It Now (BIN). Starting bid is $145, BIN is $189. The eBay item
number is 230470632840.

Link to the auction is:

Gary - thanks for bringing this to my attention - I'd have never thought
about it!! I may have all three components already - need to check the
parts bag in the morning. Otherwise I'll get those jacks ordered ASAP and be
sure they are included in the KDSP2 package.
