[Elecraft] P3 and Keyboard
What is needed besides the K3 + P3 with the SVGA board, a USB keyboard and the latest P3 Utility firmware to run the Data modes via the P3? [Elecraft] KAT500 Utility Problem Solved
Group, Solved the problem accessing the KAT500 Utility. A little thought and I tried my last remaining USB-to-Serial Port adapter. Plugged it into the PC Data cable and configured it for COM 5. And away we went. [Elecraft] KAT500 Utility
Group, How do you access the KAT500 Utility? I do not see a COM port that is connected to the KAT500. If I have the K3, the P3, the KPA500 and the KAT500 all connected together with the proper cabling and everything is working fine, where does the KAT500 Utility get its COM port? I have tried connecting the PC data cable up, but no COM shows that the Utility recognizes. What’s the secret here? I’m missing something and there are no directions in the manual that helps. [Elecraft] K3: Problem Solved with K3 S/N 280
Group, Problem Solved! Many thanks for all the suggestions. It turns out that the issue was much more simple than I imagined. I had no power t going to the KAT500. We had Severe Thunderstorm Warnings on Tuesday and I unplugged everything. Did not notice that the KAT500 was still without power when I started downloading the firmware to the KPA500. The result: The K3 wouldn’t turn ON properly when I tried to get on the air. Plugging the power plug back into the KAT500 rectified the issue. All is well with K3 S/N 280! The KPA500 has its new firmware. Thanks again for the help. [Elecraft] K3 Problem: Blank display & Won't turn OFF
Need help with my K3 S/N 280. While loading new firmware into the KPA500, something happened to my K3. The firmware load to the KPA500 appears to have succeeded, but now the K3 is ON with a blank display, the K3 won’t turn OFF and the K3 Utility says that “COM3 is being used by another application”. It looks like I’ve lost my K3 firmware and cannot access the K3 in any way. Wow, what a mess! I tried turning things OFF and , then, ON again to no avail. What happened? And what can I do to get the K3 to identify itself and work again. [Elecraft] XV144
John, If you are a casual 2M op than the 910H will serve you well, but if you are a contest op, then I would keep the XV144. You will be disappointed in the 910H on 2M during a contest. Local stations and big power stations will show up all over your 910H dial underneath/overtop of the station you want to work.. There is a trade off when you step away from transverters. [Elecraft] No output + Hi Current on 14 MHz & 18MHz
Strange problem with my K2/100 on 14 & 18 MHz. Everything is working normally on all bands except on 14 & 18 MHz. On Friday, I moved the K2/100 up to transverter 2 (903 MHz) to help a fellow ham test out his 903 antenna. My DEM 903 transverter uses a 29 MHz IF and everything was fine. We checked out both CW and SSB on each end. I changed the K2's t-r timing for the CW test. On Saturday, I put the K2/100 back on HF and tried to work a few contesters on 20M. Much to my surprise, I had no output and got the Hi Current message. I tried every other band and everything worked perfectly except on 18 MHz. I checked the t-r timing and made sure the K2/100 was back on QSK. On 14 MHz SSB the control line is showing ground when I key the mike and on 14 MHz CW I get a sidetone when I key the mike. What has happened? Did I inadvertently press a button or activate some menu item? I am stumped! [Elecraft] RTTY Filter Settings
Thanks to Don's and Tom's reminder that I must have my FCTR plugged in to TP2, I now have my CW and SSB filters set the way I want them. Now, I would like to know the latest and best suggestions on the RTTY filter widths and which frequency markers to insert on Spectrogram. Do you use two markers 170 Hz apart? [Elecraft] Problem setting K2/100 CW filter adjustment
When using the Spectrogram CW Filter adjustment system described by N0SS, I am having trouble getting my K2 to remember my BFO adjustment. For example, my FIL3 which I set to 400 Hz is not centered on my 650 Hz marker. If I tap Band-, I get "bf3 074". I move the BFO to center the filer and get "bf3 076". Everything looks is centered like I want. BUT when I tap XFil, to save this new setting and move to FIL4, my K2 does not enter my new setting for FIL3 into memory. When I review the four filter settings, FIL3 still appears to be too low and if I go through the CAL FIL sequence again, I get the old BFO setting of "bf3 074". What am I missing here? And how do I get the K2 to save my adjustment? Don's instructions are pretty clear, but they are not working for me. [Elecraft] Bypassing DSP to re-set filters in K2/100
Ok, I want to adjust my filters using Spectrogram! But first, I have to bypass the DSP. And that is not working out. Either the instructions in the DSP manual are not clear or I am having a brain cramp ...or a combination of both. How do I get to the DSP menu to bypass it (turn it off)? When I tap "Display" after I get the "CF1" screen, I get the voltage and current display. What am I not doing? Or better yet, doing wrong? After many failures with the Spectrogram and filter settings yesterday, I read today about "bypassing" my DSP. So I am stymied! [Elecraft] K2 deaf on CW
Here is the problem: My K2/100 performs very well on USB and LSB, but it nearly deaf on CW. I have used it mainly as a platform for transverters on 2m, 432 and 903 and was not aware of the CW issue until this January during the ARRL VHF Sweepstakes. I had many 903 contacts that were so weak that I needed CW. Even with the CW filter set to the widest bandwidth, I could barely hear and ended up finding them via SSB mode. A test on 40M showed me that I do indeed have a problem. What gives here? Output is fine in all modes SSB is fine in receive in LSB and USB. Only CW seems poor and on receive only. I have some ideas, but would like to get some input from the Elecraft group. Thanks in advance. [Elecraft] Big No! No!
Well, I have 100 watts out on 14.200 in both CW and SSB. The receiver seems alive, but I have not worked anyone. Checked the computer control port (COM4) with my WriteLog software and do not have computer control o the K2. Have not checked if the computer port is still working. Was not plugged into the 2M transverter when I made boo boo. Have to attend to other matters and will check again this weekend and report back. Thanks for all the help and pointers. I'll see what the voltages are this weekend. A very busy rest of the work week ahead. Thanks again. [Elecraft] Big No-No!
Well. I've done it! The big No-No! I plugged a regular 9-pin RS-232 cable into my K2/100. and smoked my K2/100's serial port.
