Re: [Elecraft] K2/100 and KAT2
You guys are making this too hard. The 20 watt tunner mounts in the QRP K2 top. When you take off the QRP top off to put on the 100 watt amp the QRP tunner has gone away. I have both tunners and it is no problem going back and forth. The 100 watt runner has places for the K2’s feet to fit into on it’s top. So the K2 and tunner stay togeather. But the K2 will lift off. I made some side plates out of aluminum that go under both the K2’s sides and the tunner’s sides. Now if I pick-up the K2 the tunner comes with it. [Elecraft] K2/10 SSB operating notes
I run a K2/10 on a Southern AZ RACES Home Unit 75 meter SSB net every Saturday morning. I am heard by everyone in Southern Arizona. The main point of the net is to encourage stations to maintain and operate on a backup power source. I maybe 10 db weaker, but I have about 50 pounds less battery then the 100 watt stations. I check into a state wide RACES net on Sunday mornings and almost all stations copy me. I guess I think every Amateur should have a 10 watt station. Especially if they have more then one transceiver in their station. I admit I have the 100 amp for the K2 and several older vintage stations and a amp with a 3-500Z and I use them all at different times, but if I could only have one station it would be the K2/10. Re: [Elecraft] RF gain sweet spot
I think the RF pot has a weak spot near the CW end. I don't know how it's made, but if the resistance is decreasing as it goes toward CW then it is minimum at three o'clock and increases slightly to full CW. Just my 2 cents. Bill, I'd do the resistence checks shown in the KPA100 manual under Alignment and Installation. It's page 40 in my old manual. Anyway it's Q1, Q2, Q9 and D13. All the final and driver circuits. I was finishing a nice 20 minute QSO on 10M CW last week when the rig's lights flickered and the power supply shut down. Now the power cord fuses blow and there appears to be a short when the power supply is turned on - even with the rig off. The K2 itself is fine and works great QRP but I need help with what direction to take with diagnosing the KPA100 trouble. May be the KPA100 is upset that my K3 will be here in a couple of months and it and the K2 will no longer be center stage in the shack? Any and all help greatly appreciated! [Elecraft] KPA100 updates
I just updated my KPA100. This update is NOT for the weak at heart. The instructions warn you that you will have to remove components from the PCB. 20 to 24 depending on the level of your board! That's a lot of desoldering! I have worked in jobs that required removing parts from PCBs, so all came out OK, but someone with no experience in removing parts may well let Elecraft or one of the "Builders" do it. I found the Spare Parts and Mod Kits ordering page very confusing. There is a KPA100MODKT and a KPA100UPKT. Both go for under $20, so maybe this isn't very important, but everything in the MODKT is contained in the UPKT. If you were to do the MODKT first and then order the UPKT you'd have about half the parts left over. As far as I can see there is no need for the KPA100MODKT now that the newer KPA100UPKT is available!? 73, Kurt ___ Elecraft mailing list Post to: Elecraft@mailman.qth.net You must be a subscriber to post to the list. RE: [Elecraft] Farnsworth Method
Ron & All, I too was a novice in the early '50s. In fact I received the ticket in late December '51. What a Christmas present! At about that same time I finished the first semester of my freshman year in high school. I was taking a music class. The teacher gave me a good grade and then suggested that I change to a shop class next semester. I still can't dance, or send/receive CW very well. I did operate quite a lot and got the General ticket by the next Summer. It took two trys. The first I had some strings of characters in the lower 60s, but none of 65! I'm sure you will tell me I just didn't stick to it long enough. This may have happened because my father was licensed and there was the 75A2 receiver Harvey-Wells AM transmitter on ten meters during one of the best sun spot cycles of all time. [Elecraft] OT otherKits
Dave you should look at the TenTec receiver kits. They're not up to the K2 but .. 73, Kurt ___ Elecraft mailing list Post to: Elecraft@mailman.qth.net You must be a subscriber to post to the list. [Elecraft] Slow AGC
For the two of us on this list that operate SSB most of the time SLOW AGC is the way to go for relaxed SSB rag chewing. Re: [Elecraft] Keith's Field Day
My wife's Honda Element doesn't have the roof rack. However there are small panels, just a couple inches on a side, in the roof area, that cover the places where the rack would attach. When you remove these covers you will find captive nuts (8 mm ?) that are to be used to hold the roof rack. :-) I made a mount out of aluminum angle that will hold a ham stick. You're on your own to figure out your mount. Since there are four (6?) of these you could build a STRONG base that would hold a tall support for a dipole that you only use at rest. When you're finished, remove your mount and snap in the plastic covers and no one is the wiser! 73, Kurt ___ Elecraft mailing list Post to: Elecraft@mailman.qth.net You must be a subscriber to post to the list. Keith, It depends on whether you want to get rid of those nasty carriers or bust them. Re: [Elecraft] Using a K2 with a boat anchor receiver?
Dave, That's a great receiver! I have a R-4A, T-4X, R-4c,T-4Xc, TR4c, RV-4c. Anyway as you can see I like 'em. No it's not a contest receiver, but listen to AM broadcast and even SSB and it a pleasure to rag chew with it. No I didn't try to use it with my K2. Came close while waiting for the 100 watt amp back in 2000 and 2001. However you should have no trouble with the right relays. 73, Kurt ___ Elecraft mailing list Post to: Elecraft@mailman.qth.net You must be a subscriber to post to the list. Subscriber Info (Addr. Re: [Elecraft] Anyone tried receiving DRM signals
The Arizoma Traffic Net on 3992 has tried working through the interference! It was terrible a couple of weeks back when the geomagnetic storms were going on. S9+20 It's a constant noise, unlike AM. The carrier on 3995 is always heard in the west at night, but the AM lower sideband didn't bother much since we are on lower sideband 73, Kurt ___ Elecraft mailing list Post to: Elecraft@mailman.qth.net You must be a subscriber to post to the list. Re: [Elecraft] Broadcast Break though on 160m
This sounds like an image. The IF is 4.915 MHz and I think the VCO will be 1.9 above the IF, or 6.815 MHz to receive 1.9. The image would be 11.73 MHz. Am I right? If I am then, I don't know why the bandpass filters are not putting them way down. But if the signal injection is not coming from the antenna.? I'm not an SWL so is that 11.7 range a broadcast band? 73, Kurt ___ Elecraft mailing list Post to: Elecraft@mailman.qth.net You must be a subscriber to post to the list. Subscriber Info (Addr.
