Re: [Elecraft] K2-Bias Resistor When Using Mic Connector Pin 1 for Soundcard Input

2023-04-03 Thread Peter Eijlander (PA0PJE)

Don (and Jim for info),

There could have been another reason for not showing any text in the
text-part if the message.

Jim might use a device like a "smart"phone that sends HTML-only mail.
This mailman server is set to suppress and delete any HTML markup and
attachments in received mails before sending it to all participants.

So, for anyone reading this: Send at least Plain Text + HTML or better
still Plain Text Only to this mail-reflector.

Jim,

If I understand your question in the subject line (but no text to detail
your question) - then the answer is that it all depends on the
soundcard.  If it has a DC blocking capacitor in the input, then all is
well with the bias resistor in place.  If there is no DC blocking at the
soundcard, the the bias resistor will have to be removed or a special
cable with a DC blocking capacitor will have to be inserted between the
mic input and the soundcard AF input.  A capacitor of 1 to 5 uF should
do fine.

If this does not answer your question, the respond with more text
instead of us trying to guess from just a subject line.

Re: [Elecraft] Simulated Stereo

2021-12-29 Thread Peter Eijlander (PA0PJE)

Hi Bob,

Yuck!

Indeed that's what I would say also.
I for one can't stand anti-phased headphones. I once discussed that over
using stereo-headphones being fed at tip and ring and left the common
open. The comment was: No one hears that. Well I do! Splitting mono into
high and low pitched sound seems fine at start but fatigues just as much
as anti-phase. Only the spacial setting on the KX3 is very useful but
even then I like to switch back to mono at times.

Yuck!  As a retired recording studio engineer, CBS Records, having the
same signal out of phase by 180 degrees to one ear, is much like
sticking and ice pick in ones ears.

Most systems will have a variable phase shift depending on frequency,
usually not to exceed 30 degrees.   In this case, the leading phase
signal will appear from that direction.   In others, bandpass filtering
moves the higher frequency to one side and the lower to the other.  From
an audio perspective, this still sounds like "fake stereo".    It is
just messed up monaural.  There's lots of that today.

The K3S has the AFX function that does an excellent job of signal
spatialization and sounds quite nice on SSB signals.

They fit perfectly and can be salvaged from nearly any old PC. Use the

No it does not change HTML into plain text. The average mail client,
like Thunderbird can be set to send both HTML and plain text.
Some clients, more specifically those that use webmail CAN send in HTML
only. 'Smart' phones and tablets have this deficiency too. That leaves
a blank message on this reflector.
Those people that use markup in their text hoping that bold and italic

I can tell GQRX to go lower but it then detects nothing anymore...
GQRX is a Linux SDR program where a funcion that says "No limits" allows

I suppose you more likely need an attenuator between the upmixer and the

Elecraft Mail LIST GUIDELINES

For those of you who are new to the list, (and for those of us who have
rapidly failing memories..), here is a quick list of things to remember when
posting to this list. Please save this for future reference.

The most important thing to remember is that this is only a hobby - Let's
have fun!

1. YOU MUST BE SUBSCRIBED to the [Elecraft] list TO POST to it. (This is
done to stop advertising spammers from hitting the list.) Any postings sent
to elecraft@mailman.qth.net by addresses different from the exact ones it
shows as subscribers will be rejected.

This includes alias (forwarded) addresses like w1...@arrl.net. If you use an
alias to subscribe you must have it as your from: and return address too.
Subscribing with w...@arrl.net from your physical address of
j...@aol.com will allow you to receive postings, but your postings to
the list will be rejected if their from: and reply to: address does not
match your subscribe address..

Go to http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft to subscribe and to
change your list preferences. To unsubscribe or to change your list
preferences (digest, no mail on/off etc.), scroll to the bottom of the page
and log in with your subscribed email address and the password that was sent
to you by email when you subscribed (and monthly afterwards.)

2. If you want to provide an attachment, .JPG picture or other large
file for use on the list, first post it to your personal web
page and then post a link to its address in an email to the list. The list
strips all attachments to prevent viruses from propagating and to keep
the archives at a reasonable size.

3. Please keep the amount of copied text from previous posts to an
-ABSOLUTE MINIMUM- in your replies. Always delete -everything- from the
prior

post except what is necessary to keep your reply in context. Most copied
messages can be reduced to one or two sentences to retain context.
Remember to

delete the email list footer from the previous post and especially avoid
copying a long posting and adding 'Me Too!' or something similar. As the
number of users on this list grows (over 1500 now) we need to work to
minimize

information overload... If a reply is -not- of interest to the list, just
reply directly to the posting party.

4. EMAIL OVERLOAD:
If you are overloaded by the volume of individual messages on the list,
You can view the daily Elecraft list messages for each month in web
format at: http://www.elecraft.com/elist.html . These archives are updated
hourly and list postings by subject. Just click on the ones you are
interested
into read. You can also set your list email preferences to 'no mail'
delivery,

which still allows you to post to the list when reading via the digest.

You can also change your subscription to the DIGEST version, which sends
you a

single compilation each day.

To change your email list options or to subscribe / unsubscribe, go to:
http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft
Scroll to the bottom of the page to log into your preferences page and set
your mail options to 'no mail'.

4a. Please make an effort to keep list volume under control by resisting the
urge to post a comment on every long discussion thread (CW, Soldering
etc.) With

close to 2,000 list subscribers volume can quickly get out of control if
everyone feels the need to comment. while we do not overly restrict the
subject

matter on this list, please remember that its primary focus is on Elecraft
products, and their use. Many people rely on it for pointers on building and
troubleshooting their kits.

4b. *** [NEW] When emailing about a specific rig or option, please add the
rig/option name(s) to the first part of your email subject line. (K1,
K2, K3,

KX1 etc.) This will be a huge help for those experiencing email overload and
will allow automatic filtering based on subject line.

Examples: "Subject: K3, Filter Options"
"Subject: KX1, How to use ped portable?"
"Subject: XG2, Wow! Its a big help.

5. *** IMPORTANT - PLEASE KEEP ALL POSTINGS CORDIAL.
Restrain the urge to email someone admonishing them about a posting.
The last thing we want to do is to scare anyone off the list. Overly
aggressive
postings and negative comments about other posters only serves to scare
away new
potential list members. Waiting over night before hitting 'send' really

[Elecraft] K4 info

2020-08-30 Thread Peter Eijlander (PA0PJE)

I support having a separate K4 group.

I don't. I filter each Elecraft gear item in separate subfolders under a
main folder called Elecraft.

The real problem with this is the shear lack of users of this list to
mention the type of Elecraft gear they want to talk about.

Many users of the K3 for example, probably the most used gear, think:
"If I ask something about a setting of something everyone should know
I'm talking about my K3", so they end up in the main folder and I have a
hard time to get rid of these messages...

Messages from users of the digest that do not change the subject line:
Those messages are filtered straight to the trash... When I close
Tunderbird the trash is emptied automaically.

If only we could stick to the RULE that one starts an item with the type
of gear I would be very happy because the filter can take good care of this.

Please use the reflector and do not divert to yahoo/google/groups.io
etc. Share information at one place, do not split it up.

One should not omit the protocol...

is the true URL including the protocol and should be shown as such in

Re: [Elecraft] Battery pack not powering K2

2019-11-10 Thread Peter Eijlander (PA0PJE)

Hello Robin,

10,5 Volts is very low for a 12 V.lead-acid battery. Try to load it with
a lamp or resistor and measure the voltage at the battery again under
load condition. I doubt that all cells in the battery are good. The gel
in these batteries can dry out, which is killing them.

There is also a series diode in the supply-line to prevent damage due to
reverse connection of a power supply that at least has a voltage drop of
0,2 volts. I don't recall on what voltage the K2 will cease to work.

When I check the voltage on the battery terminals it says 10.5V. I get the same

Re: [Elecraft] CW sending Using two keys Macro to switch mode for right and left?

2018-03-19 Thread Peter Eijlander (PA0PJE)

I glued a 6.3 mm jack to the base of my Hex-Key paddle and a common
cathode double Schottky diode, that can be found in nearly any old PC
power supply, to create a straight-key input for the K2 (doesn't work
for other rigs...) and while gluing I made a

small DPDT switch to reverse the paddles for left hand operation...
I know that it can be set from the menu but the switch is much easier.

It's surprising how many hams didn't know this reverse thing. I just
said "start sending with your left hand and do not even try to think
which side to hit for dots and dashes, just send! One of them was left

the paddles so that one was 'right handed' and the other was 'left handed'.
If that won't work, I apologize, but I think it will, and then all you need

Re: [Elecraft] KX3 and WSJT-X Setup

2018-02-16 Thread Peter Eijlander (PA0PJE)

Aaron,

What you fail to tell is: What hardware does your Linux Mint 18.3 run on?
What I don't know and cannot test is what USB device code is produced by
the SignaLink. Normally a sound card is recognised by the linux kernel
but in some cases it isn't

Try to open a terminal screen (Ctrl-Alt+T) and type: lsusb
That will list the available USB-ports in Linux and any asociated device.

On the other hand: If the PC is a desktop and has both a line in and
headphone out, use these to route audio to and from the KX3. WSJT-X
produces an audio tone that is transmitted as a carrier by the KX3 and
receives an audio tone from it, hence the dial setting and the use of
Upper Sideband.

In Mint, audio in and out can be set by right clicking on the
speaker-icon and choose audio-settings from the drop down menu.

There is no need to set the audio to 48000 Hz in the config.
I have never done this and WSJT-X, to me, works as advertised. Even on
my Raspberry Pi and an external Creative XFi USB soundcard.

Of course YMMV

Re: [Elecraft] Old Posts

2018-02-07 Thread Peter Eijlander (PA0PJE)

I haven't seen any repeating mails here.
I use Mozilla Thunderbird and POP3. I store mail locally and have it
deleted on the mail server of my ISP so I don't sync with a remote
server with IMAP as many others do. I prefer real mail over digests and
immediately dump what I don't need.
But then again I am a computer nerd that uses Linux as OS, a real mail

Re: [Elecraft] Antenna Analyzer (FA-VA4)

John,

I saw that one on FunkAmateur/Box73, they sell the kit.

What appeals me is the price (155 euro), the simplicity the way it can
be built, the features, apart form being a nice graphical analyzer it's
much more like a signal generator from 100 kHz to 100 MHz. It's readable
in direct sunlight due to it's LCD type (like te one on a K3 even the
same backlight color) And the power supply: it uses two AA cells.

I have it and I can say: Highly recommended.

I glued a 6.3 mm jack to the base of my Ham-Key paddle and a common

Re: [Elecraft] Kx3 rfi when power set to 0watt

2017-07-22 Thread Peter Eijlander (PA0PJE)

Hi Eben,

Welcome to "Radio-land"

If that is normal is not for me to decide but...

I actually measured the power level of my KX3 in CW with 0.0 watt as set
level.

It varies from band to band. On 50 MHz I found -18 dBm and on the HF
bands between -20 and -30 dBm.

On 14 MHz I found -23 dBm as carrier level and the noise over the range
from 3 to 18 MHz -50 dBm, dropping rapidly to -80 dBm on 20 MHz and above.

-23 dBm = 0.005 mW or in "S-units" S9+50 dB. Enough to drive a sensitive
receiver nuts in close proximity. A good dummmy load to terminate the
KX3 is always a good idea when "dry-land swimming" the radio.

It does have a numeric keypad but still measures only 340 mm x 110 mm x

battery container, so it has a slight slant by nature. the backside is
stainless steel sheet.

I bought it in the Netherlands but as far as I can see Amazon has it

FWIW and I don't know if that keyboard is available in the US: I have

2015-07-18 Thread Peter Eijlander (PA0PJE)

Hi Phil,

Ever heard of the "pa0rdt mini-whip"?
Want to know how it performs?

Listen to the WEB-sdr at the Twente University made by PA3FWM.
It uses such a mini-whip created by PA0RDT.

I have one in my backyard, just two metres above the earth on an
aluminium pole in a plastic box that formerly contained a HP printer
power-supply.

I regularly listen to the transmissions of the old Alexanderson
alternator in Grimeton Sweden (callsign SAQ) that transmits on 17.2 kHz
from time to time but also on all amateur bands up to 28 MHz although
the upper limit is stated as 20 MHz.
Incredible to be able to receive the alternator on a piece of PCB-copper
clad of just a few square centimetres... Ok, SAQ's output is in the
order of 200 kW.

http://alexander.n.se/

The WEB-sdr can be found here:
http://websdr.ewi.utwente.nl:8901/

Mind you it can be very busy !
On Android you should use Mozilla Firefox to listen to it.

Info about the pa0rdt-Mini-Whip can be found here:

http://pi4utr.nl/wp-content/uploads/download/pa0rdt_whip.pdf
The document starts in English but continues in Dutch and Italian.

Hi all,

Fixed-tune mode is now pretty much working on the PX3, though it's not
quite ready for beta test. (In fixed-tune mode, the PX3's displayed
frequency range stays "fixed" rather than "tracking" the KX3's VFO A
frequency. This feature is very popular with users of the P3, the PX3's
big brother.)

We're looking for a couple of thrill seekers who (a) *really* want to
test fixed-tune mode, (b) won't be rattled when they encounter they
occasional bug, and (c) can start giving our development team feedback
right away, as in tomorrow.

If you're interested, please email me directly (n6kr at elecraft dot

ready for beta in a week or two.

Thanks!

So I assume it's on it's way.

I did, it works

With a Softrock-RX for 30 metres. The LO is an xtal on 40.5 MHz that
produces 10.125 MHz and that shows on the PX3 as 0Hz.
The real problem comes with the need to recalibrate te I/Q phase and
amplitude in order to have a good image rejection.
On -25 kHz I see the DDK9 teleprinter and on +20 kHz I see the average
bunch of data modes and in between: CW sigs.
For me it was merely "try and see what happens" for the KX3 obviously
rocks much better...

Re: [Elecraft] Need size of Allen wrench for small knobs on K1

2015-01-17 Thread Peter Eijlander (PA0PJE)

Don,

On the other hand, Wikipedia says:
Hex keys are measured across-flats (AF), which is the distance between
two opposite (parallel) flat sides of the key. Standard metric sizes are
defined in ISO 2936:2001 "Assembly tools for screws and nuts—Hexagon
socket screw keys", also known as DIN 911, and, measured in millimetres
(mm) are:

0.7, 0.9, 1.0, 1.25, 1.3, 1.5
2 to 6 in 0.5 mm increments
7 to 22 in 1 mm increments
24, 25, 27, 30, 32, 36, 42 and 46 mm.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hex_key

So 1,25 mm does exist in the metric world and in my set there is one but
I have the imperial set as well, including 0.05"

However, I do have kept the supplied wrenches for my K2 and KX3 apart

Hi Nakamura

I think you're right about this but also I think that the lo/hi-cut

I know that in the Perseus software you can influence both AM sidebands
independently and in fact listen to only one sideband plus carrier in
both AM and AM-sync and probably you would like to have that option as
well in the KX3... The only way I can get this option is by using the
KX3's I/Q output, a PC and HDSDR-software. HDSDR toggles in AM-sync
between LSB, USB and DSB with a simple click on the AM-Sync button.

0.00 HI: 3.00".

After you have set the LOW to 0.00, you can not set the HI to 3.00.

The LOW will become automatically 0.05. Therefore, the value of the HI will
become 3.05.

Re: [Elecraft] [KX3] Backlight while charging

2014-11-28 Thread Peter Eijlander (PA0PJE)
Backight on? Press Menu and turn the tuning knob a very tiny little and
it's off... then turn the menu-knob a tiny little to the left and you
can set the charge time.

Is that really worth the effort of programming PF-keys for?
For me it isn't. I have more useful functions for them.

Re: [Elecraft] [KX3] Audio going low when tuning towards a strong station - SOLVED

2014-11-23 Thread Peter Eijlander (PA0PJE)

Dag Wouter Jan,

Hi all,

Many tanks to all who responded, after disabling VFO NR, the problem went

I tried it out while listening to the LZ contest on 15m today, tuning
across the many contest stations in CW sounds so much better with VFO NR
OFF compared to VFO NR ON, the latter causes a ¨hickup¨ with audio going
low at every strong signal I tune across. Band noise is high enough at the
moment to mask the KX3 VFO tuning noise so no need to enable VFO NR.
Still, I plan to do the tuning noise mod on the KXFL3 as soon as I can find
some time to do it.

Hoi Peter,

staan.

Re: [Elecraft] KXUSB with Linux - Success with Mint

2014-11-07 Thread Peter Eijlander (PA0PJE)

I have got it working in Ubuntu 12.04 64bit.
Indeed you need to add yourself to the dialout group and have the 32bit
libraries.

It is an item that should be the system settings window under user
accounts but as I wrote before in the reflector:

I had the same issue in Ubuntu Linux. The reason was that by default
only root has access to /dev/ttyUSB0.
If you add yourself to the group "dialout" like this:

In a terminal do at the ~$ prompt:

sudo usermod -a -G dialout

where should be your name as shown on the prompt before the $...

type your password...

log out then log in again and start the utility. By then it should work
ok. At least to me it did:-)

Canonical seems not to like people to mess around with group policies
therefore leaves out a gui application to set them.

-As far as I know group policy settings are back again in Ubuntu 14.04
but as that has other less likable bugs I still use 12.04 and
Gnome-session-fallback (yes: I don't like Unity)

Peter - PA0PJE

Op 2014-11-07 19:15 schreef Lyn Haddock:

Thanks to some helpful hints from several in the group, I found the solution to
getting Linux (Mint 17 Qiana, Mate Edition) to work with the KXUSB adapter.
Here is what was required…

- Click the MENU button and select the CONTROL CENTER

- Locate USERS AND GROUPS in the SYSTEM grouping

- Select your USER on the Users Settings screen if you have more than one user
set up

- Select ADVANCED SETTINGS and Authenticate

- Select the USER PRIViLEGES tab

- Enable USE MODEMS by clicking the box

- OK and Close all the open screens and REBOOT or log out and back in

Your Elecraft Utility of choice should now find the proper port (/dev/ttyusb0
in my case) and be able to to connect via the KXUSB.

2014-09-28 Thread Peter Eijlander (PA0PJE)

Hello Paul

What you probably don't know, but should be known to the users of this
reflector:

Mail MUST be in both plain text and HTML at least but preferably plain
text only and even preferably in plain text only and leave out anny
markup like text colors, bold, italic etc. for it will not show anyway
and in some cases look weird, for example text starting and ending with
an asterisk.

This reflector strips all HTML markup so any device that does not stick
to this rule and creates HTML only produces mail with an empty body.

Please read the FAQ on:

as qouted in the footer of all mails.

Re: [Elecraft] [Bulk] Re: K2 Straight key auto detect

2014-09-19 Thread Peter Eijlander (PA0PJE)
I did something similar. I soldered a
two-Schottky-diodes-in-one-package-with-common-cathode device, salvaged
from a switching PSU, on a 6.3 mm jack, glued it to the base plate of my
sqeeze-paddle and I just have to plug in my straight key and can
instantly use both.

Op 2014-09-19 09:41 schreef Matt VK2RQ:

For my K2, I made a short adapter cable, 3.5mm female to 3.5mm stereo male, and
I soldered a couple of diodes inside the one of the 3.5mm connectors to bring
both tip and sleeve of the male connector to ground when the tip of the female
connector is grounded by a straight key. This goes into one of the female
sockets on a 2x3.5mm female stereo to 1x3.5mm male stereo Y-adapter cable that
is designed so one iPod can be shared with two sets of ear plugs. My paddle
goes into the other female socket on the Y-cable, and the Y-cable goes into my
K2.

I can then easily move between paddle and straight key, and the K2 will auto
detect. In addition, the Y-cable means I don't have to fumble around at the
back of the radio if I want to swap over some different keying devices.

I might have mentioned this before, but the K2 is a great radio:-)

It is!
Mine is called 3244... :-)

Re: [Elecraft] CW on ssbHello Everyone,

2014-09-16 Thread Peter Eijlander (PA0PJE)

Owner's manual version C4 page 37:

CW WGHT
Adjusts element/space timing ratio (weight) for the internal keyer.
Additional functions of this menu entry, via numeric keypad:
Tap 1 to select S S B - C W (default) or S S B + C W (allows CW in SSB
modes).

When CW-in-SSB is in effect, tapping the KEYER/MIC knob in SSB mode
alternates between keyer speed and mic gain rather than CMP/ALC and SWR/RF
transmit metering. CW transmit in SSB mode is not available if SPLIT is on.
Tap 4 to select V O X N O R (default) or A U T O O F F . The A U T O O F
F setting
turns CW VOX off on power-up, avoiding accidental keying by attached
PCs, etc.

Tap 5 to select automatic VFO offset on SSB/CW mode change (V F O O F S ) or
no offset (V F O N O R , default). Automatic offset is often used on 6
meters, where

mixed-mode QSOs are necessary during fading. Note: Pitch matching will be
more accurate if USB is paired with CW REV, and LSB with CW normal.

Cheers,

Re: [Elecraft] KX3 Macro programming question?

2014-05-05 Thread Peter Eijlander (PA0PJE)

Hi Glenn,

I did something else for that purpose; I created a small pigs tail with
a two pin female connector and a 6.3 mm female stereo connector at the
other end for my straight key and plug the paddle in the "key" connector
at the left side. In the setup I set the side connector to normal iambic
and the front connector to "HAND" so I can use both without any
switching at all.

The rightmost 2 vertically oriented pins in the hole that is used to
connect the portable paddle, are to be used in that case. The small
connector was salvaged from some junk-box-PCB and sealed with shrink-tube.

If you like I can send you a picture of what I made.

Hi Gary,

The signal you are referring to is a STANAG 4285 military transmission
from Turkey. The curly things you see in the spectrum is in fact
selective fading in the sent spectrum, which is roughly 10 kHz wide.

The RTTY on 10.101 is DDK9, A German Meteo service sending SYNOP to

enough money to maintain a 10 kW transmitter active 24/24 for ancient

Re: [Elecraft] PSK-D Feature request

2014-01-03 Thread Peter Eijlander (PA0PJE)

The problem is the terminology, John.
In this case "FSK" and "PSK" should have been read as "ASCII" and
"Morse code". The translation from "ASCII" to "Varicode" to "PSK" and
vice versa as well as "ASCII etc" first to "5 bit Baudot" and then to
"FSK" is done by software in the radio itself, as opposed to software
running on a computer and processing audio going to and from a radio.

The second missing link is that FSK means simply a shifting carrier on a
given frequency with a given offset in the frequency domain.
FSK can be amplified with whatever class used, PSK however is a single
frequency which' phase is reversed in time hence amplitude driven and
must be amplified linearly, something not understood by some operators
who produce broad sigs with PSK, because the output meter is driven far
too high or the input of their TX is already clipping.

Just my two cents...
HNY to you all,
Peter

Tried it Bob: Spike still there. No difference with the previous
version. I already had it at -110 dBm so not really an issue but using
the I/Q cable supplied remains disastrous, you need the galvanic separation.

I could create the overload warning in 2.6 but the software kept running.

NaP3 uses 90% CPU in task manager regular breakups in audio
I like the "dual receive" over two audio channels.

HDSDR uses 20% CPU.
But the interaction via OmniRig to the KX3 is much slower

It is not due to running too many other applications. The 2GHz dual-core

using PowerSDR and it's derivatives.

I tried NaP3 with my simple SoftRock mixer on 30 meters and found that
indeed it automatically calibrates the I/Q phase and amplitude and does
that quite fast. Using the second VFO I could receive signals but trying
to tune the first one does not work, it stays put on 0 Hz. I can choose
all sorts of transceivers but not the simple I/Q mixers, as in HDSDR. I
have HDSDR working with my KX3 and will hook it up to NaP3 and post my
findings.

To Al:

One of the most important things is to use an audio cable with an 1:1
isolation transformer between the KX3 and the computer/soundcard input.
Much of the noise you see stems from all sorts of ground loops.

Subject: [Elecraft] KX3 IQ using NaP3

Greetings All

I am trying to set up my KX3 to produce a band scope/waterfall display
using NaP3 (v2.2.4.3).

My system includes a laptop running Win 7 Home Premium with a Intel
Core i3 CPU at 1.33 GHz with 4.00 (3.68usable) GB of memory and a 64-bit
OS. The modem I use is a USB E-Mu 0204 with the ASIO drivers supplied
with the E-Mu 0204. The ASIO drivers appear to work better than the MME
drivers.

I have 3 questions--

1. Do I need to set up frequency or global offsets.?
I cannot find any reference in the KX3 manual or Fred's wonderful
little book. My experience is that NaP3 appears to ignore offset values
for the KX3.

2. Do I need to worry about the balance between the I and Q channels.
My under standing is NaP3 does that, using WBIR. Furthmore, when I
play with the input levels on the E-Mu 2040, the display reacts, and
then returns to where it was.

3. How does WBIR work?
I am not convinced that I understand how to set up WBIR, and whether
or not it is actually working for me. My displays is full of images and
other noise, and the strong stations that I know are there are not visible.

A couple of observations--
I use commercial AM radio stations (730, 980 and 1040 KHz) to do the
training, but I have problems ridding the display of images. Also, I
cannot see the AM stations on the band scope (perhaps I can on the
waterfall, but I suspect it is mostly my imagination). But, when I click
on the frequency, it centres and I can see the station, but not other
stations. This is often true on SSB, as well.

My real success occurred when I left my station on while I went for
lunch and did not get back to it for a couple or so hours. Most of the
images were gone, even when I switched to 80M SSB. Also stations started
appear on both the scope and waterfall. I have not been able to repeat
this success. So, it does not appear that NaP3 had not saved WBIR
adaption. When I started up my system the following day, I was back to
my issues.

I am looking for suggestions as to how to properly setup this system. I
know it is possible, since I did it once.

Best of the Seasons to all
73 Al, ve7ear

John,

What you ask is not possible on the reflector. It is either all or

equipment, the mail is about, in the subject line but unfortunately
frequently this is ignored.

I use an off-line reader (Thunderbird in my case) and have filters set
up to move mails that have a type in the message's subject to move to a
specific folder. Those mails that are of no interest to me are simple to
delete. I do not use on line services like Nabble.

If you want to stop receiving mails form the reflector you need to go to

Hi Ray and John,

KSB2 manual page 22:
Note: The BFO settings for LSB and USB are swapped on 15, 12 and 10
meters due to the K2's frequency
mixing scheme. If you use 17 m or below for making BFO changes, the
following rules apply:
LSB: moving the LSB BFO lower in frequency will raise the voice pitch

USB: moving the USB BFO higher in frequency will raise the voice pitch

That's the reason for what you observe.
