[Elecraft] K2 XFIL--From 4 to 3
I recently installed the Noise Blanker in the K2 and noticed that on upper and lower sideband there are 3 XFIL filter selections available and on the CW selection there are 4. Before the Noise Blanker installation there were 4 XFIL selections available. Could someone please let me know about this change in filter availability? Does this added option eliminate one of the XFIL selections? [Elecraft] KSB2 SSB Use Report
I wanted to report that the K2 (#5230) with KSB2 SSB board and Kenwood MC 43S mic was used for my first contact with a local ham. He has a K2 and was interested in hearing my radio because he has never heard a K2 voice transmission. Said I sounded fine and the mic and board were working well. 73, Dale, kc9cwb ___ Elecraft mailing list Post to: Elecraft@mailman.qth.net You must be a subscriber to post to the list. [Elecraft] Re: K2 Transmitter Alignment Problems
Serial #5230 is now on the air! I have repaired the K2 lack of transmission on half of the bands by replacing the C20 capacitor (47 pf) on the RF board. Notes made at the time of initial installation made me suspect that it may have been faulty. It puts out good power on all bands and my 10 meter CW contact last night said it sounded great. As per the manual, I am going to wait a bit and learn the radio functions before installing the other options (ssb, noise blanker, and 160 meter boards). The calibration of the 4 MHz master oscillator with the Ft. Collins time station (10.000.00 MHz) went well. Prior to this calibration, the readout was 10.000.17 to dial in this station. Now the dial reads 10.000.00. 73, Dale, kc9cwb Thread-index: AccupE806CJcLXDXQa2iYRUy3TS/6w== Thread-topic: K2 Transmitter Alignment Problems I have completed up to page 77 and can get one half of the bands to put out power. 80, 40, 17, and 15 meters will show power output on the internal watt meter. 30, 20, 12, and 10 meters will not show power output. Adjusting the variable inductors has no effect on wattage output. The PA transistors (Q7 and Q8) test good voltages. What appears faulty in the RF Board sheet of voltage measurements on page 17 are U4 pin 7 and U5 pin 1. These test 5 volts and are supposed to test 0 volts. Pins 7 and 1 are connected to each by looking at the pc board. Each of these pins is next to a pin on their IC containing 5 volts. Does this indicate that the problem may likely be a faulty IC? Q24 is testing about 75% of the specified at S & D pins while Q18 tests 0 at G instead of -1.0. I have removed low pass wound filter inductors for two nonfunctioning bands and reinstalled and this did not correct the problem on these bands. I would like to correct myself and not send away for repair. Your thoughts would be appreciated. Re: [Elecraft] K2 Alignment and Test, Part III
Don, I did not see obvious solder connection problems and have started the part 155 on page 7 in Troubleshooting. R67/R68, R66/R69 and D9 were visually checked. As for checking component values in the RF detector, I went to page 17 and am working on the table "RF Board". Have completed down through Q18. My measurement is listed last. Once you locate the failing stage, it will be easy to locate the failing component (we can help at that point - right now all we can say is that 'It's broke' ). All in all, you will most likely find a bad solder connection or unsoldered connection, and the second most likely is that you will find an incorrectly placed component. So it may be a good idea to try a good visual inspection first, you may get lucky and not have to wade through the troubleshooting. When you do get into the troubleshooting, go to section 155 Power output low and follow the steps there - do not skip around (shotgunning), do things in order and your progress will be much faster. 73, Don W3FPR ___ Elecraft mailing list Post to: Elecraft@mailman.qth.net You must be a subscriber to post to the list. [Elecraft] K2 Alignment and Test, Part III
I have a K2 and have completed up to page 74. On page 75 the 40-Meter Transmitter Alignment did not work. When in TUNE, my readings are .3 on the built-in wattmeter. Adjusting L1 and L2 does not make any change. "If you cannot get power output to 2.0 watts or higher, see Troubleshooting". There is no increase. There is a 50 ohm dummy load hooked to the antenna bnc. Could someone please let me know if there is MENUE or EDIT function that may not be enabled? Should I go directly to the Trouble shooting and take measurements? Thank you, Dale, kc9cwb ___ Elecraft mailing list Post to: Elecraft@mailman.qth.net You must be a subscriber to post to the list. [Elecraft] 10 pF axial-lead capacitor ID
Could someone please help me identify the 10 pF capacitor used in the frequency counter for the K2? From the drawing I am aware that the leads will be as on a resistor. I need to know the color/shape and number markings. Thank you, Dale, Indiana, kc9cwb ___ Elecraft mailing list Post to: Elecraft@mailman.qth.net You must be a subscriber to post to the list. [Elecraft] R115 On RF Board for K2
I am working on the RF board for the K2 and need clarification for Resistor 115, .05 Ohm, 3 Watt. Do the wire leads need to be bent so they lie flat on the board? If so, then a 90 degree bend will be required immediately at the resistor barrel. Or do the leads remain elevated directly above the wire outline on the board? I ask this because the instructions make mention of the wire outline on the board and recent instructions mentioned the importance of having the capacitors mounted as close to the board as possible. Thank you for your help. Dale, kc9cwb ___ Elecraft mailing list Post to: Elecraft@mailman.qth.net You must be a subscriber to post to the list. Subscriber Info (Addr.
