I either used resonant antennas or a tuner placed at the antenna feedpoint. But, should you desire, that module is still available via Elecraft. No 100W module either. It has had a couple of repairs by W8FGU for prior owners. Paperwork included. Works as designed by Team Elecraft. https://w8fgu.com/index.htmlElecraft. All paper docs and a CD full of things K2 related. You can not build this K2 today. Elecraft has discontinued many of the modules. If you could, it would set you back $2200.00+ USD. Re: [Elecraft] K3s Receive EQ
Jim, K9YC, pointed out the work AT7T labs did to improve intelligibility over the phone lines. Fletcher & Munson did quite a bit of research into this for the military for the same reason. Interesting reads. Setting your radio RX EQ to reflect this would be a good start, if you can. A good product line at a good price. Used his products in the past. Very satisfied. https://w2ihy.com/product-category/equalizers/ BTW, any audio EQ unit can be used for RX and/or TX audio EQ. Re: [Elecraft] Reliable PL-259 UHF connector engagement
I would suggest NOT using metal tools to tighten/loosen PL-259 connectors. Too much of an opportunity to damage the connector. The silicon "mat", for want of a better term, used to loosen jar lids is the way to go. Cut a piece ~3"L X 1"W and you have a good method to "get a grip" on the connector. This will work on numerous other connectors as well. --- 73 de W3AB/GEO __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html Message delivered to arch...@mail-archive.com

[Elecraft] KRC-2 kit
I've built a couple of the small Elecraft kits in the past. Basically, just stick the components on the PCB and solder. The KRC-2 is a bit more more complex, some mechanical pieces need to be assembled in the correct order or you get to remove them to solder in some components. I was alerted to this because I read the assembly manual prior to starting. Doh! The assembly was straight forward, reminded me of the old Heathkit days except Heathkit had more assembly sketches. I learned about cold solder joints with my first Heathkit, an AR-2 SW RCVR I built when I was 7 YO. I had a TV repair guy go over the radio and show me what I had done incorrectly and how to prevent them in the future. A great resource. Plus, I got all his old radio and TV units that were deemed unrepairable to build a parts stash. I plugged it in and no smoke escaped. The check-out procedure was straight forward. All A-OK. I boxed it and sent it to its new home. --- 73 de W3AB/GEO __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html Message delivered to arch...@mail-archive.com
Re: [Elecraft] Elecraft K3 USB Drivers
Ted, I have never received unapproved updates to any of my computators or phones. I always decide if I want the update, and if and when it can be applied. Your own the hardware, you license the software/firmware from the owner. The owner can make any changes they want without your input. But you can turn off updates. When you first load a program you have to agree to terms and conditions before you can proceed. You should read those, quite enlightening. Ted sez: This may be an instance of a much larger problem, one that has been discussed with regard to automobiles and light machinery among other environments of computer-type programming. It is, I suggest, a problem as much jurisprudential as electronic. When I buy a computer and an operating system, who owns it? Does it belong to he who bought and paid for it, or does it continue to belong to the company that produced it? Windows is not alone in this. Mac OS has its own version of forcing unrequested and often unauthorized updates, as is Samsung / Android or whoever makes those systems. Updates are installed at the producer's election, and as often as not in my experience with all three systems they disable or scramble the functions of some application I had been relying on. I don't recall granting permission to any of the operating system producers to enter my computer unacknowledged and change it, however benevolent their purpose may be. It is not a stretch in my mind to say that this is not much different from an automobile maker keeping the keys to the car I bought, finding it in my garage and entering it some night, and changing the color of the upholstery without my knowledge or consent. Absurd, right? From a macro-legal point of view, it's not a bad analogy. And then the complaints are met with silence. If a fix is offered, the user has to go hunting for it. No-one has ever told me that they patched something they fouled up. Elecraft itself it very different. Updates are announced; they are optional; the changes they make are described; and when a bug appears, the discussion even by the company owners is prompt and responsive. My ire is directed rather at the Big Three of the nether world. Users of the world unite!! Ted (normally not at all revolutionary but really quite annoyed), KN1CBR --- 73 de W3AB/GEO __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html Message delivered to arch...@mail-archive.com

Re: [Elecraft] Windows Computer for K-line station
FYI: I just redid my computer system. Went from 5 desktops to 3 from 3 20 monitors to 1 34 monitor. All the chassis are mounted away from the operating position and I use remote desktop to access them. They run a variety of tasks. The main is a win8 dell with lots of HP. The other 2 are dell 745 USFF, Ultra Small Form Factor, mounted under shelves/desks. I purchased them on ebay for $25 each, refurbed by dell, with XP loaded in and the disc attached to the top. I found the $99 each dell mounts, again on ebay, for 5 for $50, NIB. My biggest PITA was the RS-232 serial ports. My world runs on them. All my cards are for full sized desktops so they wouldn't fit. I went to 1 X 4 1 X 8 USB to RS-232 convertors. Now I have plenty of real RS-232 ports as well as lots of USB ports. IMHO, newer new small form factor are ideal because they can easily be mounted away from the general clutter. 73 de W3AB __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html Message delivered to arch...@mail-archive.com
